August 15th Seireitei

It was that time of year once again as the next class of promising Shinigami graduated from the academy. While many on the outside wouldn't care less about such an occasion, it was the various Squad making up the Gotei 13 who always saw it as a way of filling their numbers with some new fodder. Most of the divisions began to recruit for new members to put into its fold, albeit some more proactive then others. Divisions like the 1st all but shut their door to nearly any who might seek to join their ranks fresh from the academy though you had Division 11 more then willing to take more in to replace the numbers of those who had lost their lives in what was the division that easily had the highest mortality rate. Most of all, it was a time of new beginnings for the freshly graduate shinigami who would finally get their first shot as at the new duty they trained hard for.

Nearly 1 week has passed since graduation day and many of the young Shinigami have found their way to their select squad whether being offered a spot or by simply applying and being accepted in. While many saw it as a chance to shine, it was likely to be a wakeup call for most how much less glamorous the life of a Shinigami was, particularly for an unseated member. While the lifestyle was likely above what those expected in the Rukongai, many who were more spoiled by their lives as nobles would likely feel the strain of not being on top of the rest even more so the in the academy. As jobs were given out, the new recruits would find most of their jobs were quite uneventful from simple guard duties in completely mundane areas to having to handle paperwork their superior pawned off upon them.

The life of a new Shinigami isn't all that great, but it is just the start of many things to come...

Posting may now commence

Torokage Asakura

The Rukongai.... With the ninth squad being in charge of the defense one would think that Torokage would be currently patrolling the Seireitei. But there was another mission that he was put upon, one that was in dire need of completion! For today of all days was the deadline for the delivery of the next issues of the Seireitei new magazine! And due to set backs and issues with where they were exactly delivering to, they only had everything together on this very day!!!

As such, due to the dire nature of this mission, one newbie stepped up to the plate, a young man who knew just exactly how to get this job done...

Stepping up to the plate, was Torokage, though some had missgivings about makeing a nobleman do such minial work, he was beyond such frivalties, he chose this job because it needed to be done. And others had mroe important things to take care of, that at leats is what he assured them of. Why, the lower cast members were touched by his care for them, that he would take this lowly job that was within such a time constraint rather than leave it to them! but little did they know.. That this was also fufilling something that torokage what always wanted to do... For he had an hidden agenda...

This wouldn't be any delivery, it would be down a massive hill! With paths turning and curving this way and that, the man was expecting to drive the cart safely down the way with the good intact. the magazines were boxed in, taped down and sealed inside a ton of plastic wrap... Should he mind it, there was no way they could escape... But even so, he must make his way as quickly as possible, thus he had to keep them stable.

For this reason, he was standing atop of the tall hill, looking down upon the land before him, he nodded solemnly, knowing exactly what he must do to get there in time.. he only had an hour to do this 2 hour walk, as such he started to push the cart down the hill, trying his best to keep it stable. Gravity threatening to take it down but he held a tight grip upon it. He shouldn't lose it unless the unthinkable were to happen, but he was perfect, nothing could possibly go wrong here!

Nothing at all!

Kaoru Tsujimoto
Kaoru.png
Kaoru Tsujimoto, younger sister of Captain Makiro Tsujimoto of Squad 6 and recent graduate from the academy was currently sneaking into the Seireitei. She still wore her street clothes and was lugging a large rucksack on her back, as such she had to be extra careful not to be spotted or she'd get in trouble for sure. Right after her graduation, Kaoru had slipped off to Arashimachi, 77th District of North Rukongai to check on her family. Being one of the villages near the outskirts of the Rukongai, it was a rather dangerous place and she needed to make sure they were doing fine without her. After all, the two big protectors of the family had joined the Soul Reapers, so she wanted to make sure they'd be able to fend for themselves.

The problem was, due to the detour, she was late coming back to the Seireitei to check in with the squad she had been assigned to, Squad 9. That wasn't the sort of impression she wanted to make, but at the end of the day, her family was more important. The difference in wardrobe was intentional, though. Kaoru didn't care for the Soul Reaper robes and had brought her own to wear. If the others didn't like that, then that was there problem, not hers.

To protect others and to maintain balance of souls within the worlds. That was the duty of a Shinigami, what they were meant to strive for. Truthfully it was something that most didn't even think of when doing their job. Many Shinigami had their own reasons for becoming one. While most would likely consider their job of maintaining balance important, they likely had other motives. Natsumi was no exception to it. She had no problems with acting as a Shinigami, even willing to go so far as to feeling honored taking up the mantle if she could just live a life of luxury. Unfortunately for Natsumi, she carried the Yamanishi name. While her family was considered a Noble Family, it was practically in name alone. It was a miracle it had not become exiled after the treachery of one member of the clan some time ago. Her once prominent clan looking as if it might reach the elevation of one of the four houses all but fell to the lowest rank one might hold while remaining in the Seireitei. To Natsumi her biggest goal was to try and restore her family name once more, that was what she now strived to do....

Well... if it wasn't for what a lowly unseated shinigami was really expected to do wasn't at play.

The third division Shinigami let out a soft sigh as she held two lunch baskets for a few Shinigami positioned up the tall hill. It would of been one thing to have to be sat positioned up top mostly to stand around on basic guard duty in a place were trouble was basically not expected, but she had the even more humiliating task of delivering the meals to the men who did such a menial task. It made her wonder if she had accidentally signed herself up on duty for the fourth division without knowing it having became Squad 3's errand girl. The only luxury she seemed to have was the fact it seemed to be a typical 'hazing' for new memebers to be given such jobs. As far as she could tell not too many in her squad seemed to mind her given her family name, although Division three appeared to be more laid back. It was probably not the best fitting squad given her demeanor though given alternatives such as Squad 9 seemed likely to result in her being sent out to die it was something she could withstand. At the very least she had to admit she felt a little content with the squad even if it involved rather humiliating jobs.

Natumi's hands gripped the cloth containing the meals as her eyes darted up to see a familiar face. A shiver ran through her spine as she looked upon Torokage. It was someone she knew from the academy... although perhaps on less personable terms. She always felt as if daggers were stabbing into her whenever he might look over at her. It wasn't a surprise if he might hate her given the Yamanishi clan was the one who had one of it's family members make an attempt on the Asakura clan's leader. An assassination attempt that all but failed and causing her great uncle to be caught and ultimately exiled while sinking her growing clan into the dirt. If it hadn't of been for her Great Great grandfather's good standing there was a good chance she would of lived her life in the Rakongai instead. Seeing the cart he was trying to move carefully she assumed he wouldn't likely be in the best of moods. She could only assume a member of a family with such a high standing wouldn't likely be that keen on such a task. She was a bit surprised to see it assigned to him.

"Ah... good morning Torokage." She spoke, fighting the urge to instinctively fix her classes having both her hands busy holding onto the food she was to deliver just a small distance away now from where she stood. She couldn't help but feel uneasy not really sure if she should expect a response back as she continued to walk up almost as if trying to give a simple short greeting and scurry off before any trouble might occur.

"Man, this sucks." complained one shinigami. His long blonde hair was tied in a neat ponytail. "And here I thought we'd be off fighting hollows and shit." he rambled on as his group kept walking

There were four of them, all were fresh recruits, and just recently joined the esteemed 5th Division of the Gotei 13.

"Be careful now, Maki. You wouldn't wan't Amano-san to hear you." said another one. This one was the shortest out of the group. He had a messy brown bob, and his face had freckles. He was more mild-mannered than Maki.

"How'd someone like him ended up as a seated officer, anyway Kai-chan?" Maki blurted out.

"I can't believe I'm agreeing with Maki on this one, but he's right, Kaitani. This is a bit underwhelming." said the stockiest out of the bunch. He was the tallest, and had a light tan compared to his companions. "I've heard about how the hollows have been more active lately. Here I thought that the reason there was a large influx of recruits was to compensate for that." he added. "So far, it's been nothing but training drills and patrol duties since we joined"

"Those are probably just rumors, Aota." replied Kaitani. "Besides, I prefer the peace."

"Pfft. You say something too, Sei-chan!" said Maki. All of their attention focused on Seijuro as they continued their patrol. "Being from the Fujiwara clan and all, aren't you bored out of your mind as well?"

Seijuro bursted out in laughter, much to hi colleagues surprise. "Are you kidding me?" I'm with Kaitani on this one." said Seijuro as he crossed his arms together. "Besides, I wouldn't want to be fighting hollows just yet. No thanks"

While he tried to put on a cheery exterior, in truth, Seijuro was in deep thought after some realizations he has had from his observations and during this whole patrol with his unit.

When the new recruits joined the 5th Division, they were immediately placed into a unit of five shinigamis, under the control of someone of a higher rank. During training and they're duties, the would always be together. Seijuro thought it was clever. The people in these units would be familiar with each other in no time. This would make them more cohesive, and be able to act more accordingly when the time comes. While Seijuro has heard nothing of hollow activities, it was better not to get caught with your pants down. The fact that their captain was taking steps to prepare them was quite impressive.

"Must be fun to be that carefree." Maki said sarcastically of Seijuro

And while Seijuro expressed that he'd rather not fight hollows, he actually felt the opposite way. Times of peace was no time to build a name for yourself. Deep inside, Seijuro wished that there was some sort of conflict that would help him rise up. He wanted to climb, and he wanted to climb fast. With that said, the group just carried on with their mundane patrol, and colorful banter to keep themselves entertained.

The Kido corps was undoubtedly almost heavenly when compared to other divisions of the Seireitei when it came to duties. After all, being a member of a small group with very specific duties was simply away easier than being an unranked officer in any division who are normally tasked with the most menial tasks solely for the sake of having something to do, simply requiring quite frequent training and at most a bit of effort when the Shakonmaku, the barrier that covered the Seireitei, showed some instability and thus required some maintenance or when the Senkaimon needed to be open. Taking in account how rarely the first thing happened and how the second required a considerable expertise to be executed, it wasn't even difficult to guess that most of the recent recruits of the corps barely had to do anything besides training on their own... Most.

"What a pain." Yomi muttered the same phrase for what seemed to be the thousandth time since he joined the Corps roughly a week, this time surprisingly not because of how depressed he was when faced by the necessity of actually circling the whole goddammed oversized wall that secluded the Seireitei from the Rukongai in the search for any physical sign that indicated some attempt of tampering or anything of the genre - basically a routine inspection to check if anything was wrong with the defensive system of the city - in spite of how literally everyone in the goddam Soul Society knew fully well that it was virtually impossible to mess with the barrier to start with, denoting more than clearly that this was naught but a waste of time that was most certainly - at least in Yomi's head - arranged by his older brother to make his life a bit hard.

Luckily for him, though, his superiors didn't request him to finish this specific task with haste, merely requiring that he filled reports detailing how much of the wall he had covered during the day and that he finished the whole thing by the end of his first week, something he somehow managed to do after 5 dreadful days full of effort (If only by his standards, where 6 hours of walking around equaled effort), thus earning a relatively free day as he purposefully only submitted half of his report and decided to use the last day to rightfully rest after his "hard work" - something that ended up leading to his current predicament As for those curious to what even was his predicament, the answer was pretty simple: He saw his brother.

Like most things in Yomi's life, this specific encounter happened in the most inconvenient moment possible, as he was quietly wandering around the Soul Society with a book in hands to avoid making his decision of taking an unofficial vacation right in his first week obvious when he ended up directly in front of what seemed to be his younger brother carrying a cart and talking to a girl whoose identity he didn't know, something that instantly alarmed the Shinigami due to how his brother was one of the few people familiar enough with him to realize what he was actually doing - and undoubtedly one that would snitch him for it when taking in account how much of a golden boy he was - thus making hiding from him imperative.

Being the fairly sharp person that he was, Yomi didn't even think twice before directly making use of his Kido expertise to soundlesly make use of one of his more valued techniques, Kyokkō, to hide his presence, instantly vanishing from the field of view of those around him while his brother was distracted by the girl in a somehow rough display of the technique that would most certainly only be able to deceive those who were remarkably inept when it came to Kido due to the lack of preparation - something that he was more than surely enough for someone as incompetent in the arts as his brother, who followed the Asakura philosophy of only caring for sword techniques to an remarkable extent. With some luck, no one would point him out and the younger Asakura would quickly finish the conversation and go past him without any trouble.

August 15th Seireitei
Later that Day...
As the sun began to below the horizon many of the Shinigami who had been working during the day were heading off to enjoy some personal time. Whether it was a nice trip to a bar or just simple heading straight to bed, many felt a sense of ease and accomplishment for what they had accomplished. As trivial as some tasks might be, they all held some importance. At least, that is what one would hope they might feel. The triviality of many of the jobs low ranking Shinigami have to do was something that many couldn't help but feel was pointless. Having been trained to protect others, it wasn't hard to quickly feel as if you weren't doing such a thing when you were stuck in the Seireitei doing mostly menial tasks or guarding places that you would be lucky to even see someone else wandering by at all during the day. Still, a job was a job and at the very least even the lowest seat member lived a life of luxury compared to most of the Rukongai.

Down in the Seireitei a rather laid back establishment resided. Compared to most of the Seireitei it had... character to say the least. It was a place were Nobles actively avoided it like the plague, looked at as if it was a den of low lives and rif-raff that had somehow scaled the walls of the Seireitei and established a foothold there. It had a cheap feel to it in many ways. Still, the atmosphere was rather welcoming to many of the Unseated Shinigami. With a number being from the Rukongai it was almost as if they were back home albeit in a much more luxurious place then most would be use to. Even Shinigami of noble decent who have yet to earn a place in the upper ranks couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging. In the bar known as Bakemomo it was a place where all could get along together as equal sharing in on being the fodder of Soul Society's personal army.

Many Shinigami began to fill the rather large business. Various large tables were sprawled out with only a few really suited for small groups evident the place was designed to fit in as many as possible and meant more to act as a meetup of sorts for many. The lanterns hung from the ceiling to provide a rather calming light to them meant to emphasize the more relaxed nature of the place. Drinks were served by the various waiters and waitresses all easy to distinguish despite a lacking of a very strict work uniform by the fact most there were Shinigami. It was moderately noisy there now though not too loud to force one to shout to speak. It was the perfect place for a group of rookies to meet up after one of it not their first day on the job.
