Behind Locked Doors

Isaac could see the hurt in Annabelles eyes and all he wanted to do was pull her back down and reassure her that everything was fine. But he couldn't. It was best she get over it now then be more hurt later. Maybe if he could get her to hate her again, she would easily leave when he made her. She was stubborn and he knew it would be difficult but if she hated him, then she would leave without caring what happened to him.

It took him a moment but it was decided. Thats what he would have to do.

Reaching forward from his spot, he grabbed her hand and pulled. Isaac pulled her down into his lap and from there he turned them so she her back was laying gently against the around and he was hovering over her. It was an improper thing to do but there was no one around to see it.

"Stop." His voice was gently and he brought his hand up and traced his fingers a long her lips. "That doesn't mean I don't feel something towards you. It just means I don't understand yet. Every day since you have entered my home, you have opened my heart. When I kissed you, I did not do it for enjoyment of myself or to use you...I did it because I wanted to and had wanted to for a long time. I do care for you..." He leaned down and brushed his lips against hers. "So please don't look so sad. You have become an important part of my life and I have already created so much pain in you. Smile that smile I fell for." Every word he spoke was true but he knew that he would have to say later that they were lies. He would have to play this all off as if he were using her. Before he didn't want to hurt her but maybe a small heart break would be what he needed to make her leave him. To save herself.

"My lady, I would like you to join me for dinner tonight. Not like our typical dinner but something more special, more festive and romantic. Would you do me the honor and dine with me tonight? You can were that beautiful dress you got today." He leaned down and kissed her neck again, just like before but this time he lingered there. HIs lips brushed up slowly her neck and to her lips. He needed to stop before thing got out of hand but he wanted to show he cared while he could.

Annabelle's eyes lit up brighter than ever before and she giggled softly then pulled away to look at him in the eyes with a small smile. "I really, really care about you Issac. And I would do almost anything to make you happy. Promise me that you won't push me away, like when we first met? I think we can be happy together." She said softly and placed a sensual kiss on his mouth, a slow and seductive one yet full of sweetness and love. "Will you promise me that?" Annabelle asked. Something in her gut told her that something was wrong, but she didn't know what. She gently cupped his cheek and looked into his eyes, she looked so innocent and yet so worried.

All Isaac wanted to do was lay there and kiss her. He wanted to stop all this and tell her the truth as well. But none of that would happen. After giving her a long and slow kiss, Isaac heard some chatter of on coming people. He got up and helped her up as well.

"Come, the bank will close soon. I need to take care of some stuff since I don't come to town often." He gathered everything and gently took her hand, kissing it and then leading her out of the snow filled park.

__

When they arrive to the bank, he had already put everything in there carriage and kept it waiting outside. He left Annabelle outside and allowed her to sit the carriage where it was warm. He didn't want her in the building in case of her over hearing what he was going to do. To her, he wanted it to seem like a quick bank transaction. He gave her a kiss on the cheek and left her inside the carriage

In the bank, there was a banker ready and waiting for him. He had Olivia tell them that he would be arriving himself to take care of his will and money, instead of his butler like normal. As Isaac approached the man, he would tell that he was nervous and excited. They had only seen him a few time before, years ago when his wife was alive. He had now become the town legend, the town ghost, the town mystery. The bankers all watched him as he walked across the room to the man he wanted to meet.

"Do you have everything ready?" Isaac asked, "I need to make this quick. I have someone waiting on me."

"Yes sir. We have everything ready, just as asked. All we need if for you to go over a it and sign."

Isaac nodded and followed the man to a back room with papers ready to be signed. Isaac made sure to go over each word carefully, to ensure that Olivia had no put something of her own in here. As he guess, he found that a small percentage of his fortune was to go to her as well. He told the banker that it was fine, that it was a small part and it was the least he could do after everything she had done for him. The main thing he did was make sure that if something were to happen to him, Annabelle would be the only person to get his money and his land. The house was to be burned after things were removed as she pleased, unless she wanted everything to burn. There was a chance she would maybe do that out of anger once she did what he planned.

One by one, he signed every paper. His heart ached more and more with each signing but he didn't ache because of the money, he hurt because he knew how this would hurt her.

"Sir? Are you sure you want to do this? Are you sick or dying? This is very strange." The man asked.

"Yes, but not in the way your thinking. Death is after us all. I just want to make sure that the people I care about are taken care of when I finally meet him."

The man only nodded as Isaac stood and took the mans hand. "Pleasure doing business with you."

Isaac finally made it back to the carriage and climbed in. "Everything is finished. You ready?" He smiled at Annabelle.

Annabelle wanted to follow him into the bank but it was clear that Issac didn't want her following. She sighed and held her hands in her lap. Something was definitely wrong... But what could it be? And how could she ask him without him thinking her too paranoid? Maybe she was just over thinking things, perhaps she was just still a little scared after what happened between them before.

Annabelle nodded and gently held his hand once he had entered the carriage and leaned close to him with a smile. "I think we can both finally be happy." She said optomistically. She really liked Issac now, she might even be falling in love with him. She intertwined her fingers with his in a sign of intimacy. "Where are we going now?" She asked innocently as she looked up at him with adoring brown eyes. She hoped it was somewhere pretty, someplace where they could start anew, make a brand new life together and be happy. She imagined a beautiful house by the beach where they would live together and her family could come over and meet him, and Jacques would be comically overprotective about her, and later once they married Annabelle and him could have children and-

There was a bump in the road that brought her back to reality and she looked at him happily, awaiting his answer.

As Annabelle's thought reflected hope and light over the things that were growing between them, Isaac could only see the opposite. He didn't know what else he could think during a time like this. He would love to think that maybe one day things would be okay and they were be able to be more but all he could think about was trying to keep from breaking her heart to much but breaking it enough to make her hate and leave him. Tonight would be the night he could do it and he hated himself for it. He could wait sooner but the sooner her waited, the more of a chance he took with her life. He would never risk that,

Bringing her hand up to his lips, he kissed each and everyone of them slowly.

"We will be arriving home soon and I would advise going and getting ready for dinner. I had the butler start on things when we left and I am going to make sure everything it perfect and also change into something more formal, my lady." He gave her a small wicked smile and brought his hand behind her neck, so that he could pull he in and kiss her deeply but softly. He didn't want to scare her or make her over thing anything. He wanted tonight to be something she would always remember. Something, when she may get past the hatred, that she could cherish.

Annabelle hurried inside and got dressed in the most beautiful crimson dress. The corset showed off her hour glass figure and allowed for a classy amount of cleavage to be shown. She put on rubies and diamonds to make her sparkle and she fixed up her hair nicely. She stepped down the staircase with a small smile until she met him at the dinning room. She still couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. She came up to him, shoulders back, she gently cupped his cheek and looked into his eyes, she assessed his gaze... wondering, what on Earth was troubling him. She could see the miniscule signs, something she had always been good at. "Is everything alright Issac?" She asked, her voice smooth and soft yet firm and deliberate. She wanted to know why he she had this sinking feeling in her stomach, and she hoped he would tell her. If not, perhaps she could coax him.

Isaac couldn't help but smile as he watched Annabelle rush from the carriage and go to dress. She seemed to him to be excited about their dinner tonight and he wanted her to be. Enter the house and handing his coat over to the butler, he went into the dinning room to see how everything was going. The butler walked past him and turned to stop him from entering the kitchen. Isaac raised an eye brow.

"My, what are you up to now my old friend." Isaac leaned against one of the dinning room chair and smiled at the butler.

The butler took out a something to write with and an envelope. He handed the envelope to Isaac who opened it slowly.

Inside was a letter from a women in Paris. She stated that she had received Isaac's letter and made sure to reply promptly. She also stated that she would be more then happy to come up in a few days and take Annabelle home. This women from Paris was to set up and make sure everything went smoothly. In the next morning, she planned on connecting Annabelle's family and make sure everything would be ready for her arrival. When she arrive to Paris, she would make sure the family would be there to greet her.

"You opened my letter?" Isaac asked. He was more then little annoyed. Typically his butler was his only friend and he told him everything, but he knew he would disapprove of Isaac's actions.

The man wrote down

Of course sir.

"And may I as why?"

The man scribbled something on the paper and then turned it to face Isaac.

Because you're an idiot, sir

Isaac gave him a quick sharp look but drew back when he saw the anger in his butlers eyes. Before Isaac had even the chance to say anything, the butler turned and let to go into the Kitchen. Isaac only stood there, his hand clutching around the letter and the note that his butler wrote one. He knew he was an idiot but his friend didn't understand. He had to do this to protect Annabelle. He could protect his wife from his past and she died because of him. He was not going to make that mistake again. With anger in his walk, he turned and went straight for his bed room. When he entered, the fire was going and Isaac made sure to throw the letter and note into the fire. He wanted no chance of her finding out.

--

After dressing quickly, Isaac made his way down stairs and saw that everything was put together smoothly. There was beautiful designed dishes, red wines and all sorts of things. He smiled, knowing his old friend did his best and put his heart into it.

When Annabelle entered the room, he felt his breath caught. There was a small fireplace, now lit, in the dinning room. Flamed candles lit up the whole room and the flames reflected off her crimson dress like a dancer. She was beautiful and he wanted nothing more but to hold her and tell her that. She was like a angel who walked into his dark hell of a world.

Taking her hands after she walked up to him and touch his cheek, he kissed each on of them soft and smiled at her.

"You look stunning, my lady. And there is nothing to worry about. I want you to enjoy tonight."

Leading her by her hands, he brought her to her seat and pulled out her chair.

"Hope your hungry, our old friend over did it a bit."

Annabelle ate timidly for a while then smiled up at Issac. Maybe she was worrying for nothing, and he seemed to be happy, so she didn't want to ruin his evening. She scooted closer to him and put a gentle hand on his thigh as she looked up at his eyes. "Thank you for today, Issac. I know we might not have started on the right foot but... I'm really happy to be with you." Rose smiled then kissed his cheek then trailed down to his neck and nibbled softly on his skin before sucking lightly. She then pulled away and touched his cheek she had adoring brown eyes, full of hope. She then turned to her food and ate a little bit more, she didn't have much of an appetite but the food was delicious.

Isaac smiled back at her and took her hand in his. "And I am glad that you are here with me. I feel like I have been blessed a second time when I didn't even deserve it. That why I wanted to do this for you. To say thank you and to see you smile. So no more sadness." He reached out and cupped her cheek, brushing his thumb over it lightly.

Releasing her, he continued with his food and finished what he could eat. Still, like before, he did not have much of a stomach and could not eat a lot. It use to make him sickly but since Annabelle being her, he had eaten more then he had in years. Little by little he was regaining health. His skin was brighter and not as pale as before, he didn't have sickly looking eyes. His hair had more richness and fullness to it. It was all thanks to Annabelle.

Setting his plate aside, Isaac rose and held out his hand to Annabelle. He could tell that she was not as hungry as normal and she was feeling nervous. He wanted to battle that nervousness and make her smile.

"The reason I did all this...was because I felt it was time to tell the truth. If you would allow, I would like to escort you to my private study. I want to show you something. I want you to see why I have been so sad recently."

Annabelle nodded and gently hugged his arm as she followed him up to the study. She was a little nervous but she gently leaned against his arm. "Whatever your secrets are, we can work through them, as long as we are together." She said tenderly and once they had entered his study she touched his cheek with her hand and placed a soft, loving kiss on his thin lips. "My dear Issac... such a tortured soul..." She said quietly and caressed his cheek before kissing him again. "What are your secrets dear lover?" She asked in a whisper then gently rubbed his chest over the soft fabric of his shirt.

Her word have a soothing feeling to her soul but he still didn't feel his nerves die just yet. Moving away from her, he turned to the book shelf where he hid the journal she once found and handed it to her.

"I want you to understand everything about me. When I was young and married, I killed innocent men for money. They would hire me before a dual and I would either go kill the man before or hide and shoot him during. It was dirty work but it paid very well. When my wife learned of this, as you know, she died. She died hating me and my life I provided for her. She died during childbirth and took the child with her. So, I shut myself in her home and allow it to curse my every step. That book you hold is the proof that could send me away for life but I keep in to remind myself of the horrible things I have done. In this room..." He gestured to everything around him,"...these are all things that belonged once to a dead man. I also keep them to remind myself. I have done terrible things and I do not deserve forgiveness. And now I have cursed you life as well...for that I am sorry...." He sat down in his study chair and placed his head in his hands. He had no mentioned this to any one ever before and the hole matter of saying it was hard. He normally wouldn't but knowing that his death would be soon, he wanted the one person he cared about to know. Even if it made her hate him. He kept his head down, scared that he would see the same hate and fear in his eyes that he saw once in wife before she passed. He didn't want to see it again.

Annabelle knelt down beside him and and rested her cheek in his lap as she soothingly touched his leg with her delicate hand. "I think we should find you a new house, start a new life, a fresh start." She said lovingly. "You should not have to live in a place so cursed... You deserve better than that, my dear, sweet, Isaac." She said, then moved to sit in his lap. She moved his hands from his face gently and cupped his cheeks in her hands. "Of course, it wasn't right what you had done, but this..." She looked around the room dedicated to torturing himself. "Isn't something anyone deserves. You make play at a monster, but truly you are a kind and sweet soul, an angel, my angel, and I want to help you start again, because I love you with all my heart and I don't want to be apart from you." She said with endearing, sweet, brown eyes. She leaned in to press her lips against his and she kissed him, slowly, intimately with tongue. She clearly adored the man...

Isaac pulled Annabelle close and kissed her back, almost with a touch bit of force. Her body was warm close to his and all he could think about was her. For once, sitting in this room, he didn't think about his past. He thought about her and what could of been his future.

"I dont deserve you..." Isaac voice was soft as he picked her up and carried her out of the room and down to the second floor where his room was. Occasionally as he carried her, he could kiss her neck and trail kissed across her collar bone.

He knew what he was doing in the long run was wrong but he knew this would be the best way to make her hate him. And he honestly just wanted one last night of bliss with her before the chaos happened. He wanted to see the love in her eyes once last time. He was setting it up so that the eyes he wanted to see last were the same as his wife. That way she would leave and never look back. She could leave and live a life with that other man and never think of him or his soon to be death.

As he carried her into his room, he dropped her on the bed and pinned her hands above her head and looked at her softly.

"Is this what you want? We don't have to..." Isaac was honest in his question.

"I... I don't know. I've never... I haven't..." She said shyly, blushing bright red. "I love you Issac... You know I do, but I'm worried." She said and slipped her hands from his grasp and she kissed him softly. "You've... you have seemed so odd lately. I don't know how to describe it." She said and looked up at his handsome face then into his eyes. "How do I know you mean what you say? How do I know you won't abandon me? It's only been a day since we have confessed our love." She was such a sensible girl at times despite her youth. She gently slipped off his coat and ran her hands down his strong back. Her legs were spread so he had room to settle between them. It was so hard to say no to him, but she knew better than to give in so quickly, even if he was such an attractive man, whom she loved completely.

"Do you trust me?" He kissed her gently and leaned up, waiting for her response. He would never force her or even consider it. Regardless of what he was doing, he did care about her. Thats why he was doing this. For her own well being. So she could be free and happy after him. "If you want to wait, we can. I want you to be happy. I want to see the sun on your face but your smile to outshine the sun." He kissed her once more and start to sit up away from her, allowing her to make the decision, which any man should do in the situation.

"My heart will never abandon you." For this, he spoke the truth. No matter what happened, the moment he send her away...she would leave with his heart.
