Rockpoint Alabama isn't a very exciting town but with a population of less than 5,000 what would you expect? It was a big deal when a Walmart finally opened up in the next town over and people are still talking about how someday there's going to be a Starbucks, but they've been saying that for five years now. It's a sleepy little nowhere town that you can't even find on most maps and the only strangers that ever stop by are on their way to somewhere better. The people who live there aren't so lucky. Most of them were born here and most of them expect to die here. It's filling the time in between that's difficult.
For fun, you can attend a high school football game, hang out at the local dive bar, cruise up and down Main St for hours, attend a movie at the two screen movie theatre that always smells like sugary vomit and stale popcorn, or just get drunk and pass out in the comfort of your own home. The options for work are similarly limited which is how our characters all find themselves at Lucy's Diner, a relic of the days when Rockpoint was a thriving town. Open 24 hours and owned by the eccentric and lovable Lucy herself, the diner is a hotspot of activity. Families, teens, couples, drunks, they all flock to Lucy's for the cheesy 50's decor, comfort food, and stellar service. Well, the service isn't always that great but neither is working there.
But it's a living. And sometimes it can be fun- Lucy has a habit of hiring the town's local weirdos, outcasts, and freaks, treating them like her own little ragtag family. Crammed together between pleather and chrome, it's only natural that the staff at Lucy's bands together to make life in Rockpoint bearable. From sneaking drinks out back on their breaks to whining about their least favorite customers in the freezer, it's the little things that make this job worth it. That and the tips.
