Some useful tidbits!

  • A little about me. I am new to the Isekai Hell rule system, but I feel like I have a decent grasp on the rules. This is an exercise in exploring the rules while running a game. I really enjoy running games and find myself doing that quite a lot. In fact, I’ve been running games for over 20 years, and I have an Isekai campaign that I want to eventually run in this universe. Before that, I want to run a few one-offs or maybe it’s all tied together. We’ll see.

Description:
The campus sprawls across the verdant foothills bordering the city of Azuran. Towers of shimmering stone house arching halls filled with star-charts, trophies from quests, and relics of mythic heroes. The legendary Celestine Spring flows through the grounds, said to have miraculous healing properties.Brief History: Founded 132 years ago by the great half-elven scholar Celestine Silverquill, the academy collects knowledge and artifacts from ages past in order to prepare new generations of adventurers. Many famous legends have passed through its halls.

Example Tenured Faculty (full-time/ex-adventurer/longterm):
  1. Headmaster Iando Starseeker: A wise silver-haired elf who has led the academy for over a century. His skills in divination and foresight are unparalleled.
  2. Professor Esmuse the Song Mistress: An eccentric half-elf bard who fills the campus with music and teaches poetry, storytelling and legends.
  3. Sir Braxus Dragonheart: The bold dragonborn paladin oversees combat training and strategy in the famous Hall of Valor. He claims to be an ancestor of Infernox.
      1. Sir Braxus Dragonheart, Tenured Professor. Grade-C.

        Description:
Sir Braxus Dragonheart is an imposing dragonborn with gleaming red scales and eyes like smoldering embers. Twin curved horns sprout from his brow, and his powerful tail sweeps behind him as he patrols the exam room. His plate armor is meticulously polished and styled with intricate dragon motifs. The crest of the Dragonheart clan adorns his pauldrons. Though decades old, Braxus carries himself with a warrior's vigor and pride. His mere presence seems to fill the chamber as the newcomers await his judgment.

Personality: As head combat instructor at the academy, Braxus upholds a strict code of honor and expects nothing less from his students. Though stern, he is fair and wants each recruit to unlock their full martial potential. He has little patience for slackers or egos, demanding discipline and teamwork. Under his intimidating scowl lies a deep well of knowledge from his adventures across the realm. Braxus knows that battles are won through planning and smart tactics as much as strength. He takes seriously his duty to train the next generation of heroes, even if he hides his faith in them behind a gruff demeanor. Woe to any student who risks harming their allies through carelessness - they'll get an earful of rebuke from Braxus.

Skills/Abilities: In his youth, Braxus achieved fame as a dragon slayer, facing down terrifying beasts with precise strikes from his mighty greatsword. Though past his prime as a warrior, he remains in peak physical conditioning and can still outmatch many younger challengers in tests of strength or skill. His own technique serves as a model for students to emulate. In addition to his martial talents, Braxus is a Paladin able to enhance and protect those around him with his aura and even lay his hands upon those who are hurt to heal them. With his enchanted greatsword Dragonsbane (Mithril C; Enchanted D) and Full Plate of the Sentinel, Braxus is a bastion on the battlefield who can pinpoint enemy weaknesses.

Here are more details on two famous landmarks at the Celestine Academy:
  1. The Celestine Spring: This ancient spring flows from a cave covered in colorful mosaics, depicting Celestine Silverquill's discovery of the magical waters. The perfectly clear pool is said to have rejuvenating properties - drinking or bathing in it restores vitality and health. Students flock to the spring before exams or difficult quests. The waters glimmer an ethereal blue-silver hue under the moonlight. Many couples have had moonlit trysts beside the enchanting spring.
  2. Museum of Lore and Legends: This hallowed hall contains artifacts collected the past century by adventurers and scholars. Towering fossilized dragon bones form a dramatic centerpiece, coming from an ancient red dragon called Infernox who once terrorized the kingdom. His skull alone is larger than a carriage. Other highlights include the shattered Blade of Andariel, ring armor worn by the famous dwarf Grun Stoneheart, and a rare phoenix feather quill. Scholars study the relics while dreaming up quests to find more. There are always new wings and vaults being expanded as the museum continues growing.

Scene 1 - Initiation into the Academy: Breakfast in the Feasting Hall of Champion$$$
It was 10 AM on a mild late summer morning, and a damp breeze hinted at the coming autumn. Dark clouds loomed over the mountains surrounding Celestine Academy, threatening a light morning rain. There was a low rumble of thunder in the distance further out beyond the City of Azuran, Ryke.

The campus was open, it's gates thrown wide for the annual Entrance Exam for new hopefuls. For those who paid the entrance fee, more of a down payment on their tuition, they could enjoy a fabulous breakfast followed by competition against other hopefuls to join one of a handful of new cohorts. Each cohort would be tested and evaluated, but first everyone would enjoy breakfast.

Inside the vaulted Feasting Hall of Champions, magical light streamed through tall rainbow prisms that sent multicolored light through the arched windows and across the long feast tables. A sumptuous buffet welcomed new hopefuls and those second and third years who were coming back after the long adventuring break in-between semesters. The academy was practical and balanced education with active field work. The Feasting Hall was filled with nervous excitement, the air charged as the newcomers took their seats among the colorful banners hanging from ceiling rafters. Today marked the start of their trials!

There were many entrances into the hall, and amidst one of the bustling entry halls, three sneering second-years stood blocking a pair of the grand doors to the Feasting Hall. Most hopeful had never been on campus and so usually had no idea they could simply go to another entrance. Bartholomew Voralcrest, a tall wizard with a wild shock of black hair like living shadow, grinned wickedly as he denied entry to the anxious first years.

"Let us through, Barty," pleaded a pale human boy. "We're hungry!"

"Should've eaten before you got here, runt," Bartholomew retorted. "No one gets past us without paying the toll."

His cronies chortled - Ragnar, a brawny half-orc fighter, and Wylda, an elven girl with vines braided into her hair. They relished lording over the newcomers on their first day.

A few who had tried last year and failed, knew of other entrances and wandered away from the commotion, but without making a big deal of it. They just shook their head and sighed before moving off for another door. However, most were here for the first time and observed the scene nervously. They oscillated between keeping their distance and wanting to eat before the exam. The scent of the food just beyond made many salivate. For many, they paid the enterance fee just to experience this breakfast in the celebrated hall to dream, even though they knew it would never come to be. And now they were forced to keep their distance or pay, not wanting to provoke the intimidating trio.

"Maybe if we're lucky, these idiots will flunk their exams and get held back," Someone in the crowd whispered.

"Here's hoping," another replied.

"They are second years, though, what do we do? I ain't got no more money." A third whispered.

A few pushed through the crowd, got shook down by Bartholomew, paid the "toll" and went inside. Others tried to push past and where pushed back by Ragnar.

~Amanda Steelhaven~ & ~Gloria Ironclaw~

Human, Business Expert, Warfare Expert, Agriculture Expert, Architecture Expert, Engineering Expert, Law Expert, Investigation Expert, Mining Expert, Expert Tinkerer, Expert Artificer, Advisor of Caelia, Ambitious, Strategist, Girl on Fire, Flatterer

Arriving at the illustrious Celestine Academy for Seekers of Lore and Legends, Amanda's gaze lifted to take in the grandeur of the place. The academy stood as a monument to knowledge and power, its architecture a fusion of timeless beauty and cutting-edge design. Towering spires touched the heavens, adorned with intricate carvings that told tales of the ages. Vines clung to the ancient stone, adding a touch of nature's wildness to the refined setting.

As Amanda passed through the academy's arched entrance, her heart swelled with anticipation. She was no stranger to the weight of her background as a low-born advisor to the new Countess Regula Caelia, nor to the connections she had cultivated, including her acquaintance with Count Sadek. It was through his influence that she had secured this unique opportunity—a chance to prove her mettle and knowledge within the hallowed halls of the Celestine Academy.

Amanda's steps echoed on the polished marble floors as she moved through the corridors, guided by the subtle signs directing her toward the offices of the academy's administrators. Her attire, a blend of practicality and respect for the institution, was a testament to her determination. A hint of nervous excitement played in her eyes as she approached the secretary's desk, where she introduced herself and presented the letter of recommendation from Count Sadek.

The secretary's raised eyebrows and the soft murmur that followed indicated that the nature of her admission wasn't commonplace. Amanda's heart raced as she felt the weight of the challenge she was about to undertake. Nine categories, an ambitious feat for anyone, especially within the tight timeframe of a week. Business, Enchanting, Tinkering, Artificing, Engineering, Investigation, Architecture, Law, and Warfare—all areas that required dedicated study and mastery. If she succeeded, her accomplishment would resonate far and wide, shattering preconceptions about her origins. [Ambitious]

If.

With the paperwork completed and her letter of recommendation turned in, Amanda felt a sense of accomplishment as she looked forward to the opportunities that lay ahead at the Celestine Academy. The prospect of a breakfast banquet added a touch of excitement to her day, as she anticipated mingling with fellow students and immersing herself in the academy's vibrant community. Though unfamiliar with the finer points of academy traditions, Amanda decided it would be best to embrace the event, especially considering the Count's generosity in covering her admission fees.

As she approached the banquet hall, the aroma of a sumptuous breakfast greeted her senses. The air was filled with the inviting scents of freshly baked pastries, aromatic coffee, and an array of delectable treats. Her stomach gave an eager rumble, a testament to both her excitement and hunger.

However, Amanda's journey to the banquet was abruptly halted by an unexpected encounter. A trio of second-year students, exuding an air of arrogance and mischief, positioned themselves at the entrance, casting an ominous shadow over her path. Their faces bore smirks that hinted at their intentions, and their presence exuded a sense of intimidation.

With an internal sigh, Amanda found herself faced with a dilemma. These students were clearly attempting to exploit the attendees, extorting them for a passage into the banquet. A mix of annoyance and frustration welled within her, fueled by the realization that her entry into the banquet might be impeded by their actions.

As Gloria, Amanda's steadfast and protective maid and bodyguard, observed the tense confrontation between Amanda and the trio of second-year students, her grip on the buttstock of her weapon tightened. Her temper, notorious among those who knew her, simmered just below the surface. Seeing anyone trying to intimidate Amanda or exploit others was enough to trigger her readiness for combat.

Her instincts screamed for action, her every fiber poised to intervene and bring justice to the situation with the force that she had at her disposal. Yet, even as her muscles tensed and her focus sharpened, Amanda's voice cut through the turmoil, a command that held more weight than any adversary's taunt.

"Relax, Gloria. Don't cause any trouble," Amanda's voice, calm but firm, reached her, a directive that caused Gloria's fingers to loosen around the weapon's buttstock. The turmoil within her mirrored the stormy skies she was known to possess, and she met Amanda's gaze with a mix of determination and inner conflict.

With a calm demeanor, Amanda approached the trio that had attempted to extort other students. Her eyes, a reflection of both authority and reason, met theirs as she spoke in a measured tone, "I want you to know that extorting fellow students goes against the code of conduct of this academy. Such actions are not only unjust but can lead to severe consequences, including expulsion." [Law Expert]

Her words were not laced with anger or aggression; instead, they held the weight of responsibility and truth. Amanda's intention wasn't to threaten, but to educate and remind them of the values that governed the academy. Her experience as an advisor to Countess Regula Caelia had taught her the importance of upholding fairness and unity within a community. [Girl On Fire]

With the trio informed of the possible consequences of their actions, Amanda turned her attention to the gathering students. Her voice carried, reaching each ear with a clear, composed cadence, "For those who are here for the first time, I'd like to remind you that this hall's size and structure might offer alternative entrances. If you find the main entrance crowded or face any difficulties, consider exploring other pathways." [Architecture Expert]

Her words were a practical suggestion, born from her understanding of the situation and her desire to ensure that every student could enjoy the banquet without any hindrances.

Eris ran her hand down the front of her robes, flattening any creases. With that completed, she smiled, turned from the mirror, and walked toward her door. Having recently accepted a part-time position at Ryke, though with the war ongoing, she knew she would be needed in the See. Adjusting the veil on her head for a moment before locking it in place, she opened the door and walked out into the hallway. The Academy had been kind enough to accommodate her while working here. Before shutting the door behind her, she leaned back in and grabbed her quarterstaff, then she went down to the central courtyard.

She had been informed that the new students would be arriving today; noticing more shade today, she looked up at the dark clouds overhead. Well, it might rain today after all. Though, I doubt that will impact much besides people running for cover if it does start. Eris thought to herself letting out a small sigh before walking down the stone pathway passing by several students towards where the banquet was being held for the new students. The journey to the academy had been rather uneventful as much of the See moved about through teleporters from city to city. So it in reality, hadn't taken her very long to get to the edge of the fae see and then to cross the border to enter Ryke.

Though she wasn't entirely sure why they had offered her a part-time position here, she figured it had something to do with her being a hero of the Holy See. She wasn't sure if they knew about her involvement in the ongoing war, but she wouldn't bring it up either. The whole matter with the tree was one thing she hoped to forget, though it didn't seem like it would happen any time soon. The events over the past year hadn't been what she thought would happen. Having arrived in the world with very little knowledge and slowly setting gaining fame as a hero wouldn't have even crossed her mind if you had asked her when she first arrived.

Nor did she think that meeting with the Holy See Pope would have ever happened, but in the end, it had worked out somehow. She had her Basilica to the Goddess, which she was still working on filling up and attracting those that wished to make the trip there. Though her deep thought had gotten the best of her as she realized she was on the grass as the rumble of thunder was heard in the distance. Pausing, she looked in the direction she heard the boom come from which she squinted her eyes. She stood there for a few minutes watching to see if it would get any close before returning to the path and once again making her way to the feasting hall.

Upon seeing the hall, she noticed a large group outside the entrance that seemed to be stopping people from entering. Eris cocked her head to the right a little bit as she scratched her head trying to figure out why there would be this many people outside. Letting out a small sigh she approached the group,
"Pardon me, excuse me," Eris spoke with her lisp being barely noticeable. When she finally made her way toward the front Amanda and her maids were talking to the students blocking the doors. Already on the first day? Seriously? She thought to herself before taking a deep breath and walking a few steps closer to the group.

"Extorsion on the first day, what a shame and here I thought the second-year students were above this," Eris spoke louder her lisp more evident now that she approached the trio and stopped in front of them. "How about you let the new students in before I inform the headmaster of all of this or if you want we can settle it with me making you all look like a bunch of children in front of the whole school," she warned them with a smile on her face one that didn't hint at any aggression as she pulled out her book and started to recite a passage. "Book of the Begining verse 9-12, The wicked once ruled over the meek and for their sustenance on power was their downfall, for I stood in the breach and brought light to this dark world. Rejoice in the light and never stray from it."

"Now, I can finish this or if you want to try and fight a Hero of The Fae See or better known as the Hero of Courage but do be quick about it we do have a schedule to keep,"
Eris concluded as the smile never left her face waiting to see if they would back down or if she was going to need to put them in a box to get the other students to pass through.

Echo stared up at the Academy, the largest building loomed like a spire over the Azuran city. Supposedly the city shared a name with some sort of Empyrean force, one she surmised was likely from another world such as herself. 'No wonder the Academy had drawn such a large crowd,' Echo sighed silently, looking about the throng of people. She had accidentally gotten separated from Thomas upon arriving in the city; if one could call getting overly excited and running off while forgetting your party member isn't as [Fast F] as you an accident. There was supposed to be a feast before the exam, and she figured there was no better place to wait for Thomas than there. That being said, where exactly was the Hall of Champions?

She looked down at the hastily scribbled map of the city she clutched in her hands. It was several silver pieces cheaper to copy the town map by hand than to buy her own, but... She peered down at the amateurish attempt at cartography before running an annoyed hand through her hair. 'Whatever, it can't be that hard to find.' Taking a moment to stretch, Echo stowed her map and then darted to the other end of the street. It took a few more randomly directed sprints, but she eventually found a group that was heading to the Academy, and with a self-satisfied grin on her face, she followed them to their destination.

She hadn't been far from the school, the group led her down an alleyway that took them straight to the gate of the Academy. No longer in need of the unwitting guides, she ran past them and through the gates. Looking about, she noticed that even though her new outfit was incredibly restrictive, it was far more in line with what others were wearing. It was a shame, she liked her Jester's Outfit. Ensuring she remained attentive enough to find Thomas, she made her way to the Hall where breakfast was being served.

"Let us through, Barty, we're hungry!"

"Should've eaten before you got here, runt, no one gets past without paying the toll."

'Ohoho,' Echo put a hand to her mouth, covering a silent chortle. 'Sounds like something a Fomorian would say.'

Puffing her chest out slightly, she made her way to the source of the incident, determined to have a word with the toll-takers. That is until she noticed that people were already talking to them, and one of them was someone she had met before; someone she was certain would be very upset to learn Echo's role in getting not one, but several clergy members kicked out of the Holy Basilica. Like it was somehow her fault they didn't know how to party. 'She's like a bad ha'penny...'

"For those who are here for the first time, I'd like to remind you that this hall's size and structure might offer alternative entrances. If you find the main entrance crowded or face any difficulties, consider exploring other pathways."

'And she's with a know-it-all and her flunky to boot. Fuunn.' Despite being unappreciative of the advice, Echo turned around with the intent to listen to it and find a different entrance. Unfortunately, her lack of grace and precision meant she turned around and ran face-first into the chest of a broad-shouldered adventurer. Caught off guard, she was faced with a choice, shove him out of the way, and potentially through a wall if she misjudged her strength, or fall flat on her ass.

To his credit, the adventurer reached out a hand to catch her as she fell. If only her first reflex hadn't been to swat his hand away, she might have caught herself.

Upon first entering the city, Thomas became easily distracted by all the sights, sounds, smells, and views within eyesight. In fact, he was so distracted that when he looked over to Echo to point something out, the space she had occupied was empty! Now that he thought of it, did he even know the girl's name? Thomas was never good with names, instead relying on his decent memory. At the front of the city were a lot of food tents to help the arriving people restore a bit of strength after long and short journeys. Farther into the city which was closer to the school were all the shops. Thomas wanted to visit as many of these as he could but not by himself so he will ask his traveling companion when they both have more time. Trying his best to ignore the rest of the city's attractions, he comes upon the GRAND CELESTINE ACADEMY! It was almost exactly as Thomas had pictured in his mind but a whole lot bigger than he anticipated.

Once inside after having paid the entrance fee to be part of the breakfast, Thomas observed the situation from afar with the older students trying to make money by not letting anyone in through these doors. He had half a mind to silently send them one hour into the future just to get rid of them when a girl approached the students, speaking in a much better and more calm manner than Thomas would have been able to do. After that, he heard about multiple entrances from the same girl and went off to look for a different entrance. Thomas found another entrance not far away which wasn't guarded by any rude students and proceeded inside the banquet full of unbelievably good smelling foods. Of course, it was quite a long line as well. But the line isn't what Thomas was concerned about. He is more concerned about having not seen Echo anywhere. So he decides to wait inside this door and watch the people come in from all the other entrances. There was also a chance she was already inside, so his eyes were scanning the crowd in the room and looking back to the other doors leading to this area.

The first day of her time at Celestine Academy for Seekers of Lore and Legends. Noelle has travelled a long way to get here. The academy was huge in her opinion. Although she had only seen the entrance so far so to say it was as big as she was thinking is still up for debate. Noelle looked up to the sky. They did say there was a chance of rain. A premonition that the clouds were confirming. She would have preferred if the sun was shining as it was summer after all. But some rain wouldn't bother her much. As a mermaid, she was used to getting wet and if it would start raining she could always go inside the school.
Talking about going inside. Noelle was looking forward to the promised breakfast for every student who paid their entrance fee. Noelle was lucky that she was able to pay that fee. It took quite some savings and more than a few generous donations by patrons of the bars and inns where she played her music. but she made it. Her stomach started to rumble. She hadn’t eaten anything since yesterday. Being ay too excited to go to school. And also she didn’t have much money. So to save some she thought she might as well skip a meal or so to eat her fill at this “free” breakfast.

Noelle noticed a commotion at the entrance of the feasting hall. As she got closers she saw what it was all about. A trio of second-year students were being obstructive not letting anyone in without payment. How annoying. She didn’t want to deal with these bullies. But she didn’t have any money to pay them nor did she believe herself physically capable to deal with them. And the scent of all that yummy food coming from the feasting hall wasn’t helping in the slightest. As she pondered her options a girl with long blond hair followed by a grey-haired maid walked up to the bullies and started to reprimand them. Noele felt like she had seen the blond girl before. It took a moment before she realised who it was. "Isn’t that the desk clerk girl from the Osun guild hall?.. Didn’t expect to see her here." She thought when she finally recognised Amanda. By that time another person had arrived. A white-haired priestess who was also addressing the bullies now.

Noelle had heard Amanda’s advice about there being multiple entrances into the hall. And It would have been wise to heed that knowledge and go look for another entrance. But Noelle was seriously hungry. So logic wasn’t something she was using at the moment. All she wanted was to get to the food as soon as possible. So main entrance it was.
With Amanda and the priestess occupying the bullies for now Noelle might be able to slip past the group. She pulled out her instrument from her bag. She took a deep breath before walking towards the group at a calm pace. Hen she got close she started to play a song on her lyre. "Please ignore me!! Please ignore me!! Please ignore me!!" She kept looking straight ahead as she attempted to walk past the group. She hoped they found the music pleasant and ignore her. Or maybe confuse them with her brazen attempt long enough so she could pass them. All she needed was to get past the group and into the hall and she was safe. And if anyone would call her out while doing this Noele was planning to make a run for it.

Scene 1: Bully Buffets
Uasal Uasal
Amanda's calm yet authoritative words gave pause to Bartholomew and his cronies blocking the entrance. For a moment, Bartholomew's smirk faltered as this newcomer lectured them on academy conduct. Ragnar shifted uncomfortably, however Wylda furrowed her eyebrows thinking over Amanda's tirade, looking down at the floor tiles very interesting.

The crowd of nervous first-years, who had been watching the confrontation anxiously, now murmured among themselves. Several glanced around, taking Amanda's advice to heart and moving to find alternate entrances now that she had distracted the bullies.

"Other pathways, huh? Think you're so smart just because you got some fancy letter?" Bartholomew scoffed, puffing out his chest. But his bravado was undercut by the way his eyes darted to the side. Bartholomew snapped his fingers, "Tell her Wyldia." Still Amanda's calm confidence had thrown him off-balance, no matter how he tried to play it off.

Meanwhile, Gloria forced herself to stand down at Amanda's order, though her protective instincts remained on high alert. She glared dangerously at the trio, ready to intervene at the first sign of aggression toward her charge. Her hands gripping her shotgun, taps her fingers looking at the troublemakers.

Finally, Wyldia spoke, "Not bad for a first year freshie, but we aren't extorting anyone. We are offering in-kind services exchanging useful information with small payment. That is allowed." She seemed to have found a loophole that she was satisfied with, however the other two still seemed uncertain.

Ragnar swept his gaze across the newcomers still lingering, unsure whether to try another entrance or not. "Alright show's over, move along!" He shouted.

Some newcomers did shuffle away, not wanting to cause trouble on their very first day. But a few stubbornly held their ground, emboldened by Amanda's reasonable words.

One gangly boy with oversized glasses spoke up, "I don't have any more coins to spare, but I'd like to pass all the same." He tried to sidle past Bartholomew, who roughly blocked him with one arm.

"You deaf, half-pint? Pay up or scram!" Bartholomew growled. But even as he said it, his voice lacked conviction. Amanda had unsettled his composure and certainty.

Tellussoil Tellussoil
As Noelle approached the tense situation at the entrance, strumming a beguiling melody on her lyre, the scowling bullies momentarily turned their attention to the newcomer. Her lilting song seemed to catch them off guard, its soothing notes temporarily distracting them from blocking the door.

For a few heartbeats, the gangly boy with oversized glasses seized the opportunity and made a break for the open doors behind the trio. "Hey!" shouted Ragnar, making a grab for the boy but only managing to snag his bag as the skinny youth slipped inside the hall.

"Nice one, slippery!" Bartholomew growled, rounding on Noelle. But even as he turned, the mermaid quickened her pace, not breaking the rhythm of her playing as she closed in on the entrance.

Wylda stared admiringly at Noelle's instrument. "Such a pretty song," she murmured dreamily. For once, she seemed oblivious to the situation at hand.

Drawing up his full height, Bartholomew moved to block Noelle's path. But he got distracted and his foot caught on a loose flagstone and he stumbled, swearing. In that moment of clumsiness, Noelle breezed past the off-balance bully. Her fingers never stopped dancing over the lyre strings.

From within the hall came a clattering crash and angry shouts - evidence that the skinny boy had made quite an entrance. Likely upsetting a table and causing general chaos. Hearing the commotion, Gloria tensed, ready to rush inside, but she hesitated at Amanda's command.

Inside, the skinny boy sat sprawled atop a fallen bench, amid spilled drinks and ruined pastries. But his eyes shone brightly as he took in the grandiose surroundings, clearly unharmed by his spectacular crash-landing into the hall. Noelle stood to one side, lyre still in hand, catching her breath from the daring musical maneuver.

As Eris approached the tense scene unfolding at the entrance to the feast hall, Bartholomew's expression soured even further. Between Amanda's reasonable but forceful reprimand and now the arrival of an apparent professor, his bravado was rapidly deflating.

Ragnar shuffled his feet, clearly uncomfortable with the situation now that multiple authority figures were intervening. "C'mon Barty, maybe we should just let them through," he muttered under his breath.

But Bartholomew was not ready to back down fully yet. "We weren't extorting anyone!" he insisted sullenly. "It's a free market, we can charge what we want for...helpful information." Even he didn't seem convinced by his own weak justification.

Wylda just blinked slowly at Eris, murmuring "Ooooh shiny..." as magical energy swirled around the priestess's raised hand. The elf seemed enthralled by the light display.

Seeing Eris preparing a spell, Gloria tensed and shifted her footing, ready to defend Amanda if things took a turn for the worse. But Amanda held up a hand, signaling Gloria to wait and see how this played out.

The remaining first year students watched with bated breath, wide-eyed at the stand-off unfolding before them. A few slowly edged toward the feast hall doors, taking advantage of the distraction.

Finally, under the combined disapproving gazes of Amanda, Eris, and now several of the braver newcomers emboldened by their stance, Bartholomew threw up his hands. "Fine, go stuff your faces, firsties! We were just leaving anyway."

He stomped off, followed hastily by Ragnar. Wylda trailed after, still staring at the glimmers of light around Eris. "So shiny..." she repeated in a daze.

With the bullies retreating, Gloria finally relaxed her battle-ready posture. The remaining newcomers hurried into the banquet hall, giving quick thanks to Amanda and Eris as they passed. Soon the entrance was clear, the confrontation defused without violence.

Inside, the feast was already underway, students mingling and enjoying the sumptuous fare. Amanda and Eris had ensured that the first-years' big day would not be ruined by a few misguided troublemakers. Still, the actions of Bartholomew's group would need to be addressed to prevent future issues...

After the tense confrontation was resolved, the newcomers hurried into the grand Feasting Hall of Champions. Vaulted ceilings towered overhead, sunlight streaming through massive stained glass windows depicting epic tales of legends who had passed through these hallowed halls. Long tables were piled high with extravagant foods - fluffy pastries dripping with honey, juicy hams glazed with spices, towers of colorful fruits and cheeses.

The newcomers eagerly filled their plates and found seats among the other students. An energetic hum of conversation filled the hall as they swapped stories, compared programs of study, and marveled at the wonders surrounding them. Many second and third year students welcomed the newcomers warmly.

After the anxiety of the morning, the mood lightened considerably as the new recruits enjoyed the camaraderie and bountiful feast. Their initial challenges outside faded into memory as they immersed themselves in the celebrations.

Too soon, the breakfast was over, and it was time for the next part of the first years' initiation - the entrance exams. Nervous whispers circulated as the newcomers were led in groups along winding paths that followed the glittering streams flowing from the legendary Celestine Spring.

The crystalline waters burbled merrily over moss-covered rocks. Intricate mosaics depicting the spring's mythical origins lined the passageways, hints of magic glimmering in the tiles. The first years paused to sip from the rejuvenating waters, gathering their courage before entering the testing chambers.

There the hopefuls were sorted into groups of thirty. Amanda ( Uasal Uasal ), Noelle ( Tellussoil Tellussoil ), Thomas ( Darkbloom Darkbloom ), and Echo ( Sepokku Sepokku ) found themselves under the watchful eyes of Eris and the imposing dragonborn warrior, Sir Braxus Dragonheart. His scaly hide shimmered in the torchlight as he observed them weighing their potential.

In addition to Eris and Sir Braxus overseeing the entrance exams, several second and third-year students assisted as proctors. Unfortunately, among them were the now sullen-looking Bartholomew, Ragnar, and Wylda. Bartholomew stared daggers at Noelle and nudged Ragnar as he said something and the pair laughed. Wylda looked at Eric, licking her lips and watching Eris hands. Despite the earlier confrontation, they had been assigned exam duties along with the other older students.

First was Cressida Ravenwatch, a studious half-elf girl with long raven hair and clever green eyes. She carried an ornate staff and wore robes embroidered with silver runes. As one of the top students, she took her proctor duties very seriously.

The other was Dante Shadowstalker, a charismatic tiefling boy with curved horns and a mane of white hair. Though known as a bit of a rebel, his top marks in illusion and transmutation magic made him an ideal exam proctor. He flashed the newcomers a roguish grin as he helped prepare the trials, his eyes lingered on Echo, having caught her earlier outside the Feasting Hall of Champions. Who would have thought the nameless adventurer was actually a third year!!

Between Eris, Sir Braxus, Cressida, Dante, and the others, the newcomers faced an experienced and talented panel determining their fates. Nervous energy charged the chamber as the first tests began.

"Right then, let's see if you whelps can pass muster," his voice boomed through the chamber. With mighty arms crossed, Sir Braxus watched as he continued, "Eris begin preparing the first tests to gauge whether these newcomers have what it takes to join the academy's ranks."

The entrance exams had begun!

Sir Braxus Dragonheart, Tenured Professor.

His knowledge of battle strategy and monster weaknesses is unmatched. Braxus can discern the smallest flaws in a recruit's fighting style and knows precisely how to correct them. His own technique serves as a model for students to emulate. In addition to his martial talents, Braxus studied the arcane arts of abjuration and divination, mastering protective wards and scrying magics. With his enchanted greatsword Dragonsbane (Mithril C; Enchanted D) and Full Plate of the Sentinel, Braxus is a bastion on the battlefield who can pinpoint enemy weaknesses.

Amanda's internal skepticism was hard to ignore. The flimsy excuse did little to mask the trio's true intentions of blocking the door and seeking undue payment. The chasm between Wylda's words and the reality of their actions was wide, the excuse a feeble attempt to justify their behavior.

However, before Amanda could voice her thoughts, a teacher arrived on the scene. The authority figure's presence cut through the tension like a blade, their disapproving gaze directed at the trio. It was clear that the teacher saw through the ruse and had come to address the situation promptly.

Amanda's lips quirked in a subtle, almost imperceptible smile. Justice, it seemed, had its own way of manifesting. She glanced briefly at Wylda, her expression a mix of empathy and the hope that this reprimand would serve as a lesson. Though she didn't say a word, Amanda's thoughts resonated with a silent acknowledgment that the truth always found its way to the surface, no matter how cleverly it might be obscured.

That being said she wasn't very fond of the teacher's threat as a means to resolve the situation. It had been effective but Amanda felt such a method of handling the situation would only serve to promote the behavior in the teacher's absence. After all had she not just set an example that violence and force was an acceptable tool? Violence and threats certainly were useful when used correctly but Amanda felt in this case, it would only lead to deepen any animosity festered.

With the Trio eventually clearing off after a number of students managed to slip past, a familiar bard being among them, Amanda took a moment to thank the teacher before moving inside.

Stepping into the ornate and well-decorated hall, Amanda's senses were immediately greeted by a symphony of colors and aromas. The ambiance was a blend of sophistication and opulence, a fitting setting for the academy's esteemed students to gather and share a meal. The clinking of silverware and the gentle hum of conversation filled the air, creating a tapestry of sound that enveloped her.

As she took her place at one of the elegantly set tables, Amanda's thoughts wandered. The events that had transpired outside lingered in her mind, a reminder of the complexities that could lay beneath even the most seemingly innocuous interactions. The trio's attempt at extorting their fellow students had been thwarted, but the incident left behind a trail of questions.
Sipping from a delicately crafted goblet, Amanda considered the situation. It was curious how Bartholomew, one of the members of the trio, had known about her admission through a letter of recommendation. The fact that such knowledge had reached their ears raised suspicions. How had that information been leaked, and more importantly, why had they taken an interest in her specifically?

Her gaze swept over the hall's occupants, their conversations weaving together into a rich tapestry of voices. Amanda's ability to read people had served her well as an advisor, and now it was in full force as she discreetly observed those around her. She couldn't shake off the nagging feeling that there was more to the trio's actions than met the eye, that their encounter was not merely coincidental.

As Amanda indulged in the sumptuous breakfast, her mind remained active. She was no stranger to the complexities of politics and intrigue, having navigated them as part of her role as Countess Regula Caelia's advisor. The academy, it seemed, was no exception. The threads of mystery and uncertainty intertwined with the tapestry of knowledge and camaraderie that the institution represented.

With each bite of the exquisite fare, Amanda contemplated the web of possibilities that surrounded her. The answers to her questions might be elusive, but her determination to uncover the truth was unwavering. As she engaged in polite conversation with her fellow students, her thoughts remained focused on the enigma that had unfolded before her, a puzzle waiting to be solved amidst the backdrop of academic excellence.

The transition from the luxurious breakfast to the next phase of initiation was swift. Nervous anticipation hung in the air as the newcomers, Amanda among them, were led along the winding paths that traced the sparkling streams flowing from the renowned Celestine Spring. The melodic bubbling of crystalline waters danced over mossy rocks, and the mosaic tiles lining the passages radiated an otherworldly magic.

The allure of the spring's waters was irresistible, and Amanda, like her fellow first years, paused to sip from the rejuvenating source. The liquid seemed to invigorate her spirit, washing away any lingering doubts and instilling a renewed sense of purpose. The path ahead was one of challenge, yet the spring's magic infused her with a quiet courage.

The testing chambers beckoned, a realm of trials and opportunity. Amanda's heart quickened as she was sorted into a group of thirty, her eyes drawn to the familiar face of Noelle, the bard she had met earlier. Recognition sparked within her, connecting the dots of their shared journey. Two others, unknown to her, completed their group. The presence of the familiar teacher Eris from before and the figure of authority Sir Braxus added a layer of gravity to the proceedings.

However, Amanda's attention was quickly caught by the unexpected presence of the trio that had attempted to extort fellow students. Bartholomew, Ragnar, and Wylda were now among the proctors overseeing the exams. Their sullen expressions and curious interactions sent ripples of concern through Amanda. Bartholomew's malicious stare and the exchange between him and his companions hinted at potential interference, a continuation of their earlier disregard for the rules.

Amanda's displeasure was palpable, and her determination to ensure the integrity of the exams surged. She turned to her ever-watchful guardian, Gloria, and whispered her worry. "Gloria, be on alert. Those three might try to interfere in some way. No matter what happens, do not react. Simply take note of their doings. My focus is on the exam itself. Your interference would likely see me disqualified and should that happen all my efforts up to this point would be for naught. Understand? Do not engage no matter the circumstance. I will be fine and even if I do find myself harmed, it will become the silver bullet needed to deal a fatal blow."

As Amanda spoke, her hand moved to her holster, producing a revolver—a tool she had created and fine-tuned as part of her wide-ranging skill set. She inspected it with practiced care, the cold metal a reassuring weight in her palm. It was a tangible symbol of her readiness to face any challenges that might arise.

With a deep breath, Amanda's gaze shifted to the exam chamber's entrance, where Eris and Sir Braxus stood, their presence embodying authority and guidance. Among the older students present, Amanda's attention was drawn back to Bartholomew, Ragnar, and Wylda. Despite her concerns, she maintained a facade of calm resolve, her fingers lightly brushing the revolver's handle as she steeled herself for the trials that lay ahead.

As Ragnar spoke up as saying it was probably best to move on, Eris closed her book and tucked it away, not once moving her eyes away from the trio. The first day on the job and I already have to discipline the students? What is wrong with this city? Goddess Holfeel should shed some extra bit of her light on this city. She thought to herself as the trio tried to figure out what to do next. As Barty spoke up again, Eris met his gaze, showing she wouldn't back down. "So I should start charging individual students to attend my classes? Interesting," Eris paused momentarily, feigning contemplation on the matter. "You realize that makes you a fool, money, now I would strongly encourage you to let them pass unless you want to explain why the new students were late to the hall," she concluded slightly lisping before tapping the butt of her staff against the ground twice.

Eris cocked her eyebrow as the Wylda seemed to take an interest in her after she was preparing to use a spell. She took her attention off of Bartly as she was trying to figure out what that was about when the other behind her and Amanda decided to get bolder and forced Bartly's group to leave. "Go on, there is a schedule to keep, everyone please find your seats in the hall. The entrance exam will begin shortly after," Eris called out as the students made their way into the hall and thanked her as they passed by. Eris watched the trio for a few moments before standing off to the side of the entrance.

"Hello, would you be interested in learning about the Goddess Holfeel, the goddess of Reincarnation and guide of souls?" She inquired before taking several fliers in her hand, a child-like smile appeared on her face as she pushed a box over by the entrance and then stood upon it. Clearing her throat, she tapped the butt of her staff on the ground twice. "Book of Tylaith verses 1 through 9, out walked Holfeel clad in bright light and out she led us from the darkness. Through her light, the tide of our luck had changed. No longer were we the ones running, but in fact, we were now reclaiming our lives. Blessed are those who walk in the light and know of the goddess," Eris paused a moment as she cleared her throat again. "The book of Lavicus verses 3-9 states, There we stood in complete darkness and as it was about to swallow the world. There was a bright light, a light that pushed back the darkness as it guided out those who followed; a woman met them at the end of their path, and she said, dear children, follow me, for I am always with you." Eris recited from memory. Figuring she might as well teach those who would listen about her Goddess.

Once she got to her seat, Eris quickly grabbed the food that was on the table and placed it on her plate. So far, the first day had been interesting though she had no idea what would happen next. The time for the exam was fast approaching, and there were going to be several sets of tests for whatever reason, she had been picked as one of the people to guide one of the new groups through the process.

Opening one of the rolls that was on the table, Eris took her knife spread some butter on the bread, and then took a bite of the food. If there was one thing she would enjoy about her time here, it was the food. She wouldn't have to make anything for herself, which was always a welcome change, especially if she didn't feel like cooking something that day. This was something that she was going to get used to very fast.

As breakfast ended, she patted her belly letting out a satisfied sigh as she stood up from her seat. As she was given the group she was supposed to lead through the paths she smiled, "Follow me!" Eris commanded as she smiled and turned around to start to lead the group to the first destination. As they reached the chamber, Sir Braxus was waiting for their arrival. When the command to start the exam began Eris took a few steps forward as a wall of metal appeared from the ground. "The First exam will be about control, you will use your strongest attack or ability to either make the slab break or crumble. For those of you who are not combat-gifted, if you exert enough focus ont he stone or over-change it with magic it will also burst. But here I the catch, too much power and the stone will shatter causing a small explosion and too little power the metal stone here will glow red. You must find the balance, just because you have a strong ability or power doesn't mean you will win every fight and in fact if you are not careful others will get in the crossfire," Eris paused for a moment.

"So I will show you what will happen if you overcharge the stone," Eris smiled as she turned her back toward the students and pulled out her scripture, "Book of Evitius verses 3-9. For those who do not look upon the light, there shall be fire. A fire that will cleanse the soul or remove it from the cycle. For it is us the clergy of our goddess' faith that stand at the bearers of the torch. For that torch is the salvation and the executioner, for I sentence you to be judged by her holy flames!" As she finished the verse the beam shot down from the heavens and ignited the area around the rock, and a few seconds after the impact the stone then exploded sending small pebbles of rocks in various directions.

A few seconds later another one appeared, "Simple as that, now lets begin the exam," Eris concluded.

As Eris explained the nature of the first exam, Amanda's attention sharpened. Control was the name of the game, a delicate balance between power and precision. The task involved utilizing one's strongest ability or attack to manipulate a slab of metal, aiming to either break it or cause it to crumble. Amanda listened intently, absorbing the rules and guidelines that would determine success.

Eris's words resonated with a deeper truth—an important lesson in combat strategy. Power alone didn't guarantee victory; it was the mastery of that power, the understanding of its limits, and the ability to wield it with finesse that truly mattered. Amanda appreciated the broader implications of the exam, beyond the immediate challenge at hand.

As Eris demonstrated the consequences of overcharging the stone, Amanda watched with a mix of fascination and respect. The verses spoken, the scripture invoked—it was a reminder of the academy's rich tradition and the weight of responsibility that came with their studies. The explosion that followed was both awe-inspiring and a stark reminder of the consequences of unchecked power.

When Eris announced the commencement of the exam, Amanda shifted her focus inward. Her skills in artificing and engineering gave her a unique perspective on the task at hand. As others around her might have been considering brute force or magical prowess, Amanda took a different approach. She observed the metallic slab, her analytical mind assessing its composition, its structure, and its potential vulnerabilities. [Expert Artificer] [Engineering Expert] [Mining Expert] [Investigation Expert]

With a calm determination, Amanda closed her eyes briefly, visualizing the inner workings of the slab. [10,000 Hours? Rookie Numbers! F] She tapped into her knowledge of mechanics, envisioning how stress and pressure could manipulate its integrity. When she opened her eyes, her gaze was focused and her movements deliberate. She extended her hand, fingers splayed, and a faint shimmer of the slab's energy danced around her palm.

Rather than channeling the slab's raw power, Amanda drew upon her understanding of the slab's mechanics. She exerted a precise and controlled force, targeting specific points with a calculated touch. The metal responded, showing signs of strain as her influence reverberated through its structure. The challenge was not to shatter the slab but to manipulate it to the point of controlled disintegration.

Amanda's concentration was unwavering, a testament to her focus and expertise as a craftswoman. Gradually, cracks formed along predetermined lines, and the metal responded to her guidance. It was a dance of intellect and energy, a symphony of calculated force. As the slab crumbled in a controlled cascade, Amanda allowed herself a small smile of satisfaction.

Her approach might have been less overtly powerful, but it spoke to her understanding of the task and her ability to navigate challenges with finesse. As the remnants of the slab settled, Amanda's eyes met Eris's gaze for a brief moment—a silent acknowledgment of the lessons learned.

With the first exam behind her, Amanda's thoughts turned to the tests that lay ahead. Each challenge was an opportunity to showcase her skills and growth, to unravel the mysteries of the academy, and to emerge as a force to be reckoned with within the ranks of the Celestine Academy's students.

Having successfully completed her own approach to the exam, Amanda felt a surge of satisfaction. Her gaze shifted to her three teammates, the individuals she would be working with to navigate the challenges ahead. With a sense of camaraderie and determination, she turned to them, offering guidance that might aid them in their endeavors.

Addressing her teammates with a friendly yet authoritative tone, Amanda shared her insights, "Noelle, when you use your bardic magic, focus on the resonant frequencies of the metal or its magics. Aim to disrupt its harmonics—it might not take much force if you find the right notes. And for our combat-gifted teammates," she continued, looking at the two others, "target the joints and the areas where stress might be concentrated. A well-placed strike can exploit weaknesses and shatter the slab effectively."

Her words were a blend of practical advice and encouragement. Amanda's expertise in various fields gave her a unique perspective on the task, and she wanted to contribute to her team's success. She was well aware that their individual strengths could complement each other, and by pooling their talents, they stood a greater chance of mastering the exam.

Amanda's demeanor exuded a sense of collaboration and unity, emphasizing that they were all in this together. She believed in the power of shared knowledge and the strength that came from working as a cohesive unit. As they embarked on the exam, Amanda's hope was that her guidance would serve her teammates well, fostering a sense of achievement and camaraderie among them.

Unfortunately, Thomas didn't see Echo at the breakfast. Eventually he stopped waiting and browsed the foods, taking a seat at a table by himself. The breakfast seemed to be over pretty quick, despite his lack of company. The teachers ushered everyone out of the room and into a nearby field where the first assignment was explained.

"The First exam will be about control, you will use your strongest attack or ability to either make the slab break or crumble. For those of you who are not combat-gifted, if you exert enough focus on the stone or over-change it with magic it will also burst. Wait, isn't that one of the fellows who assisted him and everyone else in Tri-Point? It was! It is! How did she become a teacher here? Granted, he doesn't actually know the extent of her abilities, which means she must be skilled enough to be considered a teacher. If a chance arises to have a chat he will go for it. Thomas expects to be quite busy, and signed up for as many classes as he could about the world, how it works, how people govern it, and various other classes like this one about basic magic control.

Thomas watches the other students as they attempt to break or crumble the slab of rock provided. Most of the students were having trouble, and a select few were understanding it very quickly. His way of making the rock crumble seems to be straighforward. Thomas decides to cast [Time Skip], which fast forwards time on a target. Rocks are fairly durable, but even the best built castles fall into ruin and crumble away with time as he was told in his bedtime stories by mom and dad. Thomas maintains the spell at a steady pace as the rock crumbles under the accelerated aging process wrought upon it by chronomancy, until it crumbles away into dust.

To say the food was well-made would have been an understatement. After eating her way through several helpings of sunny-side-up eggs, each of which had a different colored yolk, she turned her attention to the table full of pastries and various forms of what she could only assume were this world's version of pemmican. There was a crowd of people around it, larger than the one milling about the table with threshed and frosted wheat. Peering around, she noticed that the bullies from earlier couldn't be seen, 'Surely they weren't expelled for their behavior..?'

Before she had time to ruminate on it any longer, a gap opened up in the crowd of students between her and the nearest frosted Bearclaw. Darting over to the table she grabbed the pastry and promptly started devouring it. The thought of carbo-loading crossed her mind for a moment before she decided that, as they had come here to be taught magic, she probably shouldn't stuff herself. It would be hard enough to keep a clear mind this close to noon, in her past life the time for Hunting was closer to midnight, the exact opposite; and despite a literal lifetime to adjust, her circadian rhythm was still out of whack.

'Still,' She mused, 'No reason I couldn't save some for later, I paid for the meal, after all.' Grabbing a few of the choicest looking pastries, and several handfuls of pemmican, she utilized a nearby cloth napkin to make a parcel for snacking on later, then left the feasting hall. It was odd seeing so many people in one place, she mused, and the exam itself was no exception. Twenty-eight other people in her group, if she didn't count herself and Thomas.

That priestess of the Goddess Holfeel was their exam administrator; had she somehow stumbled into some elaborate ruse that would finally culminate in the holy woman's revenge? Probably, though she wasn't sure what Eris stood to gain from getting her refused entrance to the Academy. Her eyes narrowed as she noticed the snarky know-it-all from earlier was there too. True to form she launched into a tutorial for passing the exam, seemingly a walking encyclopedia. 'Is that even allowed? Sort of seems like cheating.'

Her eyes wandered to the Tiefling third year who had helped her up before breakfast. It was somehow embarrassing that he was now one of the proctors; like he'd think less of her because she fell down. Not that it would matter after she proved herself. The bullies from earlier had also made their reappearance, though they seemed chuffed about it.

As Thomas began to erode the rock with magic, she thought that perhaps she should use her own magic to accomplish a similar feat, though she had never been able to give much form to mana before, and she didn't even have a catalyst, she had been borrowing Thomas's to practice. Walking up to the slab that stood before her, she [Appraised] the rock. It seemed like she could reasonably cast her spear through something maybe twice the size or density of the rock. Crossing her arms, she began to think the situation through. 'If I simply cut it down with ease, Eris would definitely go "Bwahaha," and then send me straight to some kind of internship or something, probably at the Basilica cleaning windows. But, if I don't deal with it somehow, Thomas is going to start taking classes without me...'

She stood in quiet contemplation for a moment, then decided on a course of action. She had never really practiced the style, but Great-Grandfather Balor used to know several kicking arts, and she'd seen him use them at least a dozen times. Taking a [Fast F] running start toward the target, she jumped, and slammed the heel of her foot into the center of the metal slab, with all her [Strength A].

So far so good. The bullies seem to be confused for the moment by Noelle’s sudden musical march. She might even be able to pull this off and get inside the dinner hall before they could recollect their thoughts and try to stop her. But she knew this as wishful thinking. She felt their eyes on her. And she was still too far away to safely make a run for it. What was she to do now?
Suddenly a big-glassed kid used the distraction that Noelle was causing to make a break past the bullies. This was a blessing in disguise to Noelle for at that moment the attention of the leader of the bullies was drawn to the kid. "This is it… I have to do it now!" Noelle sped up her pace as Batholomew tried to grab the kid trying to run for the doors. The little mermaid kept playing her music. She was scared. But as she noticed how much Wylda enjoyed her music a smile appeared on her face. It always brought great joy to Noelle to see people liking her music.
Bartholomew noticed Noelle’s attempt to go for the doors. But as he wanted to turn and block her way he stumbled over a loose lag stone losing his balance. Noelle seized this opportunity to swerve around the mage.
With no one left in her way, Noelle darted into the feasting hall. The mermaid was able to stop in time before she could crash into something. Catching her breath it took a moment for Noelle to let it sink in what she just achieved. "I *pant* I *pant* I MADE IT!!" She yelled triumphantly as she threw up her arms. Then her stomach grumbled, reminding her of her true goal of getting to the feasting halls in the first place.

Noelle took a seat at one of the tables and started to dig into the lavish breakfast filling herself up on sweet rolls and fruity pastries. It all tasted so much better than she could ever imagine. Given she isn’t used to the most luxurious of foods. So it is nice to have a proper meal once in a while. Noelle ate her fill, maybe even a little bit too much. But that would all resolve on its own once the tests will start. Or so she hoped.

It was time for the entry exams. Noelle followed the group as they were led along winding paths towards the location of the exams. Noelle’s stomach was acting up. She most definitely had eaten too much than was good for her. Or it might be caused by the fact her meal primarily consisted of “sweet” things that might have caused her stomach to protest now. Fortunately, their trail led past the waters flowing from the legendary Celestine Spring. As others took a sip from the rejuvenating water, so did Noelle. It is said that the water restored vitality and health. So no harm no foul in trying it. Noelle took a sip from the water and instantly felt a lot better. Her tummy wasn’t being annoying as much anymore.

They arrived at the location for the first test. Noelle was sorted into a group of thirty. To her relief, Amanda was also in her group. It gave the mermaid a little bit of peace of mind that she was with someone a little bit familiar to her. But when she noticed the three bullies from earlier were there as proctors Noelle felt a bit uneasy. She had hoped she would be able to evade those three for as long as possible. But it seems fate had a different plan.
Noelle’s attention then was drawn by Eris as she explained how the first test worked. They needed to hit the rock in the hopes it would crack. Eris gave a demonstration of what would happen if they hit it too hard. So they needed to show control. Noelle wasn't sure if she would be able to do that. She didn’t have any combat abilities. Nor did she have to seriously channel magic as far as she remembered.
Amanda was one of the first to attempt to break the rock which she broke without much trouble. Noelle was amazed by that. She made it look so easy.
The advice Amanda then gave Noelle made her think "focusing on the resonance within the stone? I could try that" She walked up to her slab. Noelle wanted to confirm something first. She placed her hand on the stone. It felt solid and cold. Pretty much how Stone would feel. Noelle focused on her hand on the stone. She felt something stir within the rock. She removed her hand from the rock and saw, as Eris told them, that the rock was glowing red where she placed her hand.

"Okay I can do this" Noelle took a few steps back and took her lyre in hand. She noticed one of the other students, a wizard boy, using time magic to decay the slab. On the other spectrum of attempts, Noelle saw a fae go for brute force and kick the slab. But She must not get distracted. Noelle must focus on her attempt to vanquish the stone. "Just need to find the right resonance" she said to herself as She plucked at one of the strings while concentrating on the slab of stone. The stone reacted as it calmly vibrated. Noele plucked another string. This time producing a higher note. The stone vibrated again but this time it also started to glow a little. Using [performance F] Noelle kept producing notes on her instrument trying to find the right resonance that aligned with the stone. It sounded like the waves of the sea. Going up and down as Nole came ever closer to the right pitch. The stone was also dancing to the tunes. Its vibrations and the glowing tell the little mermaid how far or close she is to her goal. After about a minute Noelle kept playing one note over and over again. "Found it!" She was playing now in perfect harmony with the vibration of the rock. This was the resonance she was looking for. "Let’s end this!!" Noelle raised her hand and took a deep breath before swooping it down past the strings unleashing a magical [Strum] at the rock. The slab started to vibrate like crazy and glowed bright red from the hit of magic-infused note for a few seconds before it crumbled down.
"I… I did it" Noele said as she let out a sigh of relief. She turned towards Amanda and smiled at her giving her a thumbs-up to say thank you for the advice she gave.

Scene 2: Trial by Metal Slab
Eris's dramatic demonstration immediately captured the attention of the gathered newcomers. A few gasped as the divine fire obliterated the metal slab, while others gazed in awe. The proctors observed the display keenly.

Sir Braxus grunted in approval, nodding. "A fine showing of controlled power, Professor Granstone," his rumbling voice echoed through the chamber. Though destruction wasn't his preferred method, Braxus could appreciate a well-executed attack.

Among the students, reactions varied. Bartholomew scowled, irritated that this new adjunct professor could so easily outshine his mediocre talents. Ragnar's eyes were wide with impression, while Wylda clapped enthusiastically at the fiery show.

Cressida watched Eris like a hawk, carefully analyzing her technique and making notes about the spellwork. Academic at heart, demonstrations were fascinating to her. Dante just looked bored, yawning until Braxus cast a sharp glare his way.

As the first metal slab reconstructed itself, the students lined up to take their turns. Most gave eager, if nervous, attempts to follow Eris's example. A few struggled to make a dent at all in the slab. But with each attempt, the proctors would pair off and either give helpful guidance or a blunt critique, pushing the recruits to find the balance between power and control.

Amanda's clever manipulation of the slab's structure seemed to impress the observing professor. At least Braxus grunted, which passed for praise from the gruff warrior.

However, one proctor was not so approving - Bartholomew glowered as the newcomer succeeded with apparent ease. As soon as Amanda stepped away from the remnants of her slab, he stormed over to her.

"Hmph, nothing impressive about breaking a rock with parlor tricks," Bartholomew scoffed just loud enough for others to hear. "And then ruining the learning experience for others!"

He dramatically waved his fingers as if preparing a spell, sparks sputtered and jolted like a living, swirling ring of sparks about two inches in diameter.

Sir Braxus grunted again and looked at the pair. His glare held the ancient, malevolent greed of an elder dragon. A great and terrible weight fell upon the pair for a brief moment. Without saying another word, Sir Braxus' gaze turned towards the next candidate at the slab.

"Eh, why bother. You got lucky this time, but don't think your little rock crushing stunt makes you anything special," he went on resentfully. "We'll see if you last past the first week here with that attitude!" Bartholomew whispered and turned back to give advise to another candidate, this one who had failed to do anything to the pillar.

Still some of the recruits took Amanda up on her advice, trying take advantage of any edge they could get. Noelle was one such person, using her knowledge of song and Amanda's guidance on resonance to break the metal slab. Some others with guidance were able to follow Amanda's example targeting vulnerabilities in the slab, while others struggled even to make a dent.

Until it was Echo's turn. Her forceful kick blew a hole through the center of the metal slab. The metal bent outward comically like a cartoon missile had blasted it in the center of the metal slab. A few observing students murmured in surprise at the physical display of strength from the slight girl. Even the usually stoic Braxus raised an eyebrow, evidently impressed.

Among the proctors, reactions varied. Bartholomew rolled his eyes dismissively, while Wylda smiled and clapped as she had for each attempt. Studious Cressida took notes on Echo's form, analyzing points that could be improved.

But the most intrigued proctor was Dante. The tiefling had noticed Echo immediately at the start of the exam, and continued observing her closely. Her contemplative poise suggested hidden depths beyond her petite frame. And the sudden explosive kick proved she had talents to reckon with.

"Not bad, petit pied," Dante called out, using the old infernal term for 'little foot'. His voice was smooth and teasing. "But those slab constructs can take quite a beating. I've never seen a candidate put a foot through one. You even made the old dragon take notice."

He stepped closer, golden eyes glinting with mischief. With a snap of his fingers, Dante added another layer of enchantment to the metal slab, increasing its density and durability. Runes shimmered across its surface.

"Let's see if you can really make it crack now, ma crevette. Give it your best shot..." He gave Echo a roguish wink, enjoying the game of challenging this intriguing newcomer.

Braxus rumbled in mild annoyance at his antics, "Save it, Dante."

"Yes, Sir!" Although usually flippant to a fault, Dante gave a formal salute and dispelled the enchantments.

Several other students went next.

As Thomas channeled his chronomantic magic on the slab, a ripple seemed to pass through reality around it. The edges of the metal slab began rapidly corroding, flakes of rust peeling away as years of degradation caught up in seconds. Strange transparent afterimages flickered around it like a short-circuiting hologram.

Within moments the solid slab had been reduced to a pile of metallic dust, its matter aged to dissolution by the temporal distortion. As the time warp collapsed, a light breeze scattered the glittering particles.

Stunned silence filled the chamber. The other professors glanced between each other, unsure whether to count Thomas's esoteric solution as passing or not. Destroying the slab with accelerated time was clever, if utterly unpredictable.

Finally Sir Braxus rumbled, "Well, can't say I've seen that tactic before. But you accomplished the task, recruit. Just try not to age us all into dust, understood?" Despite his gruff words, there was a hint of amusement in the old dragonborn's tone.

"Fascinating!" added Cressida, furiously scribbling notes with eyes alight. "The applications of focused chronomancy! I must research this further."

Bartholomew just sneered, "Weird magic tricks. Think you're so clever, time freak?"

But Dante laughed delightedly. "I knew we had some original minds in this cohort! Well done, mon ami chrono. You'll liven up the classroom, I'm sure."

The other students murmured excitedly amongst themselves. All eyes were on Thomas now, regarding the prodigy mage with newfound curiosity and respect after his unorthodox success.

As the entrance exams continued, eventually the nervous boy Potter stepped up for his attempt, trailed by his weasel-kin friend. Potter's hands trembled as he prepared to channel a lightning bolt at the slab. There was a lightning bolt tattoo that ran from the tip of his forehead to the back of his scalp that light up in blinding light. "Help me Lord Volt!" He screamed. "Destroy that metal panel with righteous fury!"

The whole room crackled as electrons became charged with static electricity. Hair and clothes stood out. Little bolts of lightning started to arc purple electricity between people who were close to each other.

Then Potter's head began to bleed and the drops pooled upon the ground, forming a summoning circle! The blood from his tattoo gave form to an Evil God: Volthor, The God Of Thunderous Wrath!

Volthor was a huge, muscular giant with vicious fangs, blue skin, and a hundred tattoos of ravens upon his back. He held a double-headed massive Axe with no handle, only wicked sharp blades the size of tree trucks. He grabbed the anguished boy Potter whose head was furious spewing blood.

"Hahaha! You summoned me again with your unwise ritual, how much of a fool are you?! No wonder your only friend is a weasel!" He tossed the unconscious boy whose blood was still screaming out an unholy magic.

Dark clouds instantly formed and roiled unnaturally within the room. Terrifying bolts of purple lightning struck several students, including the nameless weasel-kin boy. Their bodies were ignighted in purple flame! Their were screams and panic and several students twisted and convulsed as their bodies became mutated and warped by the hideous radiation such energies unleashed.

Bartholomew screamed "My face! My beautiful face! Curse you evil god!" as one side become sagging and decaying, eaten by magical gangrene.

Sir Braxus sighed. "Something like this happens every year." He peered at the boy on the ground and grunted.

"None can stop me now! This mortal plane will suffer my wrath!" Volthor bellowed. The situation was rapidly deteriorating into outright disaster.

Stunned silence filled the chamber. The other professors glanced between each other, unsure whether to count Thomas's esoteric solution as passing or not. Destroying the slab with accelerated time was clever, if utterly unpredictable.
Thomas turns around and watches their expressions, which appeared to be confusion and uncertainty. This was starting to make him a little worried as the whole group stared silently. Thousands of thoughts raced through his head, beginning at 'What if I made a mistake?', 'Am I not good enough for this school?', and a much more sad thought, 'There's no way... I'm going to get kicked out... it was fun while it lasted...' Thomas dejectedly starts walking away from everyone when the first voice speaks up.
Finally Sir Braxus rumbled, "Well, can't say I've seen that tactic before. But you accomplished the task, recruit. Just try not to age us all into dust, understood?" Despite his gruff words, there was a hint of amusement in the old dragonborn's tone.
He stops walking, almost too happy to hear his acceptance. He felt on the verge of tears as he was walking away but quickly wipes them away before anyone can see and turns around with a bright smile on his face, as wide as he could possibly smile. "Thank you sir! You are all very kind I would never do such a thing!" He starts walking back to the group, practically beaming with pride but trying not to show it too much. After all, his power was still weak at this point. He needed to learn a lot more before he could call himself a proper chronomancer.
"Fascinating!" added Cressida, furiously scribbling notes with eyes alight. "The applications of focused chronomancy! I must research this further."
Thomas approaches Cressida, his eyes also alight with the desire to learn more about what he can do in the future. "Yes! Let me know if I can help you with anything! I too would also like to study more of this and become an even better mage with more spells! The only way I see that happening is through hard work and perseverance! I can't wait to get started!" And, last but not least, one of the bullies from this morning at breakfast. He avoided them before but now it will be an impossibility to avoid any more detection after he rapidly aged the slab.
Bartholomew just sneered, "Weird magic tricks. Think you're so clever, time freak?"
Heh. If time freak is the best Bartholomew can come up with, then Thomas has nothing to worry about. He ignores this, not bothering to give any sort of reply as he walks back to his place.
But Dante laughed delightedly. "I knew we had some original minds in this cohort! Well done, mon ami chrono. You'll liven up the classroom, I'm sure."
Chrono. That could be a good nickname. However, Dante did one thing wrong. He dared to speak to Echo in a completely unprofessional manner of a proctor. Oh yes, if making Thomas jealous was the plan then that worked quite well. He watched where Echo moved to and went to stand at her side, boldly and shamelessly putting an arm around her shoulder. "I'm sorry I wasn't able to meet with you in the breakfast room. The city distracted me, I've never been to a place so big and vibrant. Say, when we get some free time want to go take a proper look at the city with me?" He keeps solid eye contact with her as long as he has her attention.
The other students murmured excitedly amongst themselves. All eyes were on Thomas now, regarding the prodigy mage with newfound curiosity and respect after his unorthodox success.
Thomas was excited to keep learning at this school. There was already a (mostly) good number and quality of teachers here, and some others he will surely be avoiding like some of the proctors. He can feel all the eyes on him, and it felt good but he was also wary, being in a new location with so many people. After his turn, a scrappy looking kid steps up to the plate next, to try his attempt. However, the result was horrifying. The purple lightning came from the sky and struck many students, and Thomas watched quite helplessly as each student was bursting into flame. And then he shakily turns his head to look at the demon who had arrived from the blood summoning circle. His legs were shaking so much, it was hard to stand. He wants to run away. He wants to scream like everyone else. His heart is pounding and his palms are sweaty as he stands paralyzed in fear. But the magic inside him urges Thomas to act. He takes back his arm that was around Echo's shoulder and takes a step... forward. One foot after the other, he slowly starts gaining walking speed until he stands in front of everyone else. Thomas would regret it if he let someone else take the lead, especially Dante. "Y-you, d-demon!" He stutters, not able to hide the obvious fear in his voice. "I... I will stop you from harming anyone else here." The four blue dots on the bottom of his staff begin to light up one after the other, and then the blue dot on the top of his staff also lights up as magic courses through his body into his staff, creating a brilliant light in the center of it. "BEGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE!" With a mighty cry Thomas releases his spell, [Time Warp]: forcefully flinging the demon through time up to one hour.

Eris turned to look at Sir Braxus as she gave him a nod as she stepped off to the side, the first student that came up was Amanda. Eris watched intently as she was curious to see what she would do. She watched closely as cracks started to form in the rock and then disintegrated to which she simply nodded her head and turned to look and see who was going to be the next person to step up to the plate. Though Eris herself ignored the assisted proctors reactions for the time being.

Eris watched the students walk up and one by one slowly took their turns with destroying the plate that had been created by magic. Eris didn't even know a lot of these people, but there were a few she knew from a recent encounter, namely Thomas, and Echo. However, she felt like it wasn't her place to interrupt the exam to speak to them at the moment. Well, some of the students have an interesting take on the matter, I suppose. Though not everything can be completed with brute strength alone," she thought to herself, clasping her hands behind her back as she started to stretch.

Though what she hadn't expected was Dante creating another metal slab for Echo to try and breakthrough, Eris couldn't help but scowl at him before Braxus stepped in and told him to knock it off. Eris was surprised someone of her size could put a hole through the slab like that, though as she knew appearances could always be surprising. You never knew ones strength until they were knocking on your door. Or, well in this case punching a hole through your door.

When Thomas stepped up Eris folded her arms across her chest as she wasn't sure what he was going to do at all. She didn't remember him using any magic when they had last met though to be fair she was preoccupied. So she knew that it could have just been something that she overlooked. When the slab turned into Dust, Eris's eyes widened a little bit as she hadn't expected that. Some of the students seemed to be a lot stronger than they were letting onto. Which meant that the lessons could get a bit harder, which she wasn't going to complain about. But for now there was still much to focus on for the exams.

When Potter walked up and started his summoning Eris instinctively gripped her staff, and as the demon was summoned, Eris saw the carnage that it started to wreck right away. "Don't summon the thing if you cant control it!" Eris shouted as the Demon was basically laughing at him and then started to attack those nearby it. Without much thought Eris revealed her scriptures and opened the book up, “Book of Icarus verse 16-20, in the beginning, there was nothing, weary travelers rest upon my gentle light. The faithful shall never want for protection, for I am the church and maker of holy ground. The foundation is my very soul; I consecrate this ground!” As she finished the verse a barrier was erected around the remaining students. "Stay inside and you should be fine," Eris stated as she turned her attention toward the demon that was now causing the chaos.

"You know I've seen a whole lot more scary things than you," Eris tried to taunt the demon as the scripture book opened to another verse, "Book of Icarus verse 9-11, Be my weapon and deliver those to the light for I command you. Take up arms and bet he bear of my holy weapon!" As the verse finished mana weaved itself through the staff creating a maul head at the top fo the staff made out of pure mana that glowed brightly. Without missing a beat Eris moved to swing at the demon and then would repeat the process using the divine weapon again.

Amanda maintained her composed demeanor as she observed the continuation of the entrance exams. The attempts of her fellow students, some eager and some hesitant, demonstrated a range of abilities and approaches. The proctors' engagement, whether through guidance or critique, emphasized the importance of control and balance in wielding one's power effectively.
Braxus's grunted approval, although brief, was significant to Amanda. She recognized the value of his acknowledgment, especially given his typically gruff demeanor. His experience and insight were evident, and his acknowledgment of her accomplishment carried weight.

However, Bartholomew's reaction, driven by his apparent jealousy, didn't escape her attention. As he confronted her with his dismissive words and flashy display of sparks, Amanda maintained her composure. She understood that not everyone would appreciate her approach, especially when it yielded results that others found impressive. Sir Braxus's imposing gaze, laden with a sense of ancient authority, was a tangible reminder of the larger context. Amanda felt the weight of the moment as his attention shifted to the next candidate. It was a momentary reminder that her journey at the academy was just beginning, and she had much to prove beyond a single demonstration.

Bartholomew's resentful tone and whispered words did little to shake Amanda's resolve. She had encountered such attitudes before, and she was prepared to face the challenges that came with being in an environment where competition and egos were abundant.

As the exams continued, Amanda remained focused on the task at hand, drawing strength from her determination to learn and improve. The trials ahead were likely to be as varied as the personalities around her, but she was committed to facing them head-on, proving her abilities through action rather than empty words.

As the proctors observed the students' attempts, reactions ranged from appreciation to surprise. The different responses of her peers were a testament to the varied talents and approaches present within the group. Echo's explosive display of strength elicited murmurs of surprise and admiration. Amanda couldn't help but be impressed herself, recognizing the significance of such a feat. The intriguing exchange between Echo and Dante added a layer of playful challenge to the atmosphere, revealing Echo's potential and catching the attention of those around her. Noelle too managed to overcome the trial, a welcome surprise given how quickly she managed to put Amanda's advice to use.

Though most surprising of all was Thomas and his chronomancy. What an interesting and absurd power. Of all the magic she had seen and read of up to now, Chronomancy was by far one of the most powerful in nature. If one were to wield it right they could very easily bring about an end to the world. Was the academy really going to nurture such a power? Perhaps this world's understanding of modern physics was lacking to the point such a possibility wasn't even a concern. Or perhaps something else was going on. Regardless Thomas was a dangerous individual to be sure.

1693246064218.pngThe sudden appearance of an evil god, Volthor, sent shockwaves through the chamber. The dramatic and catastrophic turn of events was unlike anything Amanda could have anticipated. Chaos erupted as the summoning spiraled out of control, the room descending into a cacophony of screams and panic.

Amanda's instincts kicked in, her training and quick thinking guiding her actions. She immediately assessed the situation, recognizing the threat that Volthor posed to everyone present. The safety of the students and the need to contain the situation became her top priority.

As Volthor's destructive powers wreaked havoc around him, Amanda took a deep breath and focused her will. Her hand instinctively reached for her holster, her fingers gripping the handle of her revolver with practiced ease. She didn't know if conventional weapons would be effective against a deity. She knew that her own skills in magic were limited, but she had to try something be it conventional or not right! Wrong.

Releasing her grip on her weapon, Amanda took another deep breath. Acting rashly and without a plan could lead to catastrophic consequences. The memories of the fire that ravaged 'The Party of Greed' weighed heavily on her mind. A reminder of how not to go about handling oneself in an emergency.

With a renewed sense of determination, Amanda took a deep breath and let herself calm down. Seeing Eris actively tending to the students caught in the chaos caused by the evil god's attack reassured her that the situation was being managed. She had faith in the competence of the academy's staff, and that allowed her to shift her focus back to the task at hand. [Ambitious] [Girl on Fire]

As the chaos raged, Amanda's analytical mind kicked into gear. She saw an opportunity to utilize her expertise in artificing and engineering to make a practical contribution. She spotted one of the enchanted Mythril slabs that had been used for the entrance exam. Swiftly, she moved towards it, her thoughts already racing with ideas. [Expert Artificer] [Engineering Expert]

Amanda's fingers danced over the surface of the metal slab, feeling for magical enchantments woven into it. Her knowledge and experience allowed her to identify the intricate patterns and energy flows that made up the enchantment but this slab, it had yet to be enchanted like the others. With an already clear understanding of their structure, she began to modify it with precision and purpose. Drawing on her Artificing and Enchanting skills, Amanda began inscribing enchantments to enhance the slab's destructive power and refocus its purpose while retaining its integrity. She focused on fine-tuning the balance between power and control, a concept that had been emphasized throughout the exams. Her hands moved with practiced precision, and her mind was fully engaged in the task. [Expert Artificer] [Engineering Expert]

As she worked, Amanda was aware of the curious glances from her peers and the proctors not to mention the chaos unfolding. However, she remained focused on the task, her determination unwavering. The slab transformed under her skillful touch, its magical properties taking on a new configuration that aligned with her intended modifications.

When Amanda was satisfied with her changes, she stepped back and observed her work. The enchanted metal slab now bore the marks of her expertise, reflecting her knowledge and creativity. It was a tangible testament to her abilities and her dedication.

Grabbing the Item she raised it toward the evil god and braced herself behind it as if wielding a very odd and heavy shield. "Release".
The energy within the slab surged, building up in a concentrated form. Amanda's control over the enchanted modifications had allowed her to shape and direct the magical force the shield previously had harnessed. Then in a flash, the shield unleashed the built-up mana in the form of a blast.

The blast of concentrated mana shot forth from the enchanted metal slab, surging with power and intent. It streaked through the air with a brilliant glow, aimed directly at the evil god, Volthor. The mana blast carried with it Amanda's resolve, her determination to protect her fellow students and to counter the threat posed by the malevolent entity.

As the mana blast neared its target, its force rippled with the energy Amanda had imbued it with. The air crackled with magic as the blast impacted, unleashing its potency in an attempt to disrupt and counteract the god's presence. Amanda's action was a calculated response, an attempt to harness her abilities in the face of a formidable adversary.

Echo cocked her head as Dante spoke, the odd sprinklings of Infernal lent an odd cadence to the Tiefling's words. She briefly wondered exactly what he was saying, but as he layered enchantments on it and challenged her to do it again, the meaning of the infernal phrases no longer mattered. Her hand tightened around the haft of her spear, her joints groaning in protest as she hefted the nearly unbreakable piece of metal into a proper stance.

Unfortunately, she did not get the chance to show off, as the rest of the proctors seemed eager to continue. With a shrug she simply sat with the rest of the entrants who had finished testing and waited for Thomas. Apparently, there was something of note to his spellcasting, a rarity or something like that. It was a curious thought; she had seen nothing too special about it during their travels.

With a smile on her face she waved excitedly at Thomas as he joined the rest of the applicants who were waiting for the exam to end. As he apologized, she took out her notebook and started sketching out a cafe next to a used bookstore, along with the resplendent fountain that had sat in the center of the nearby plaza. Upon finishing she used her charcoal stylus to point to the fountain, as if to say, 'Let's go here?'
She did not get a response, instead a roaring Giant began rampaging onto the scene, the result of some half-cocked ritual gone awry, or at least she figured as much. It started mumbling something, or another, not that she paid much attention to it. Instead, her eyes were on the dragonkin proctor, who seemed none too impressed. Was this a second test? Or some form of extra credit? She cast a glance at the priestess, who had sprung into action.

Eris was focusing on healing, so this couldn't have been real combat, right? Then again, she was a Priestess, perhaps first, and an adventurer second. 'Gah,' Running a frustrated hand through her hair, she decided that she didn't care whether or not this was part of the test. With a snarl on her face, she cracked her neck and took aim at the giant. As another attack slammed into the beast, she took a step back and threw her spear with all her might, muscle and tendons tearing as she did.

With a limp, she made her way into the healing light Eris had summoned.

As Volthor materialized amidst the exam hall, bellowing and swinging his massive axe, Thomas reacted on instinct. Calling upon his chronomancy, he willed the flow of time around the demon to accelerate.

But Thomas' control was still unrefined. He only managed to push Volthor a few seconds into the future before the spell collapsed. It was just enough to displace the demon from his original position.

Unfortunately, several other students had already unleashed attacks at where Volthor had been standing. Without their intended target, the spells careened wildly across the hall. Searing fireballs, icy spears, and eldritch bolts of power ricocheted through the chamber.

Many watched in horror as the friendly fire struck classmates left and right. Students collapsed with terrible burns, lacerations, and other bizarre effects from the barrage of uncontrolled magic. Their pained screams echoed around the hall.

Before Thomas could act again, Volthor reappeared with a thunderous roar. The time warp had only delayed his assault by moments. Dark clouds swirled ominously above as Volthor called down more of his destructive lightning. The black raven tattoos upon his back rippled and began to move about his body. Enraged, the demon swung his wicked axe in a broad arc, catching several fleeing recruits with the blade's cruel edge. The axe sliced through their armor and flesh just as easily.

Eris raised a glowing barrier around the remaining students, Volthor bellowed in outrage. "Your pathetic magics won't save them!" He called down another barrage of malevolent lightning, but it fizzled and dispersed against the priestess's divine protections.

Seeing his primary attacks nullified, Volthor turned his fury fully upon Eris. He swung his massive demonic axe in a deadly arc, attempting to smash through her guard. But with preternatural speed, Eris brought up her newly forged mana maul to parry the blow. Celestial and infernal weapons clashed in a shower of sparks.

"You dare challenge me, mortal worm?!" Volthor pressed forward, blade grinding against Eris's maul. "I am fury incarnate! All shall burn in the fires of my wrath!"

The students inside the barrier watched the epic duel with bated breath. Cressida and a few others dragged injured classmates toward the sanctuary of Eris's shield. Sir Braxus stood ready to intercept any blows that might break through and threaten the recruits.

Amanda saw her opportunity and deftly modified and enchanted one of the metal slabs, imbuing it with concentrated destructive force, Volthor was caught off guard. Snarling curses and hammering blows against Eris's divine maul, the demon failed to notice the ingenious artificer's actions.

The supercharged blast of mana slammed into Volthor's side, searing through his magical wards and scorching his blue hide. He howled in surprise and outrage, stumbling from the unexpected attack. Acrid smoke rose from his smoldering flesh where the mana blast had struck home.

"Insolent mortal scum!" the demon roared, rounding on Amanda with murderous intent. But in that moment of distraction, Eris pressed her own assault, bringing her glowing maul down on Volthor's dominant arm. Bones crunched and the massive axe tumbled from his grip.

Volthor's bellow shook the hall, but now the advantage had shifted. Wounded and disarmed, the demon found himself on the defensive. Eris rained down luminous blows while Amanda readied another round from her improvised mana cannon. The students and professors regrouped, rallying to finally put an end to the demon's rampage.

Hope glimmered amidst the chaos - thanks to Amanda's timely intervention, the tide had turned against the Lord of Wrath. Now if the others could press the attack before Volthor gathered his infernal powers...this vile exam crasher could still be expelled back to the depths that spawned him!

Echo pivoted, seeing her chance and exerted her superhuman strength to hurl her spear at the demon Volthor, the orichalcum weapon rocketed through the air like a shooting star. It pierced straight through the smoldering hole left by Amanda's mana blast, plunging deep into the demon's chest in an explosion of gore.

Volthor's expression was almost comical in its shock as the spear punctured his black heart. He convulsed, clawing futilely at the weapon lodged within him as his lifeblood gushed forth.

"No...I cannot fall...to these mortals..." the Lord of Wrath gurgled in disbelief even as he collapsed. His massive frame hit the ground with an earth-shaking thud, the light in his malevolent eyes finally dimming. With a last bubbling groan, the demon moved no more.

The students erupted into relieved cheers, hardly believing the epic battle was over. Eris, Amanda, and Echo had landed the decisive blows while Thomas disrupted the demon's rampage. Together, their efforts had saved countless lives and ended the summoner boy Potter's catastrophic blunder.

As the attack resolved, pain washed over Echo, causing her to collapse as delayed agony from overexerting herself caught up. Her valiant spear throw had exceeded her body's limits, fracturing bones and tearing muscles with its sheer force. Bruises and organs began to bleed internally, purple color blossomed over her skin.

"Damn demon's followers get crazier every year," Dante muttered, glancing to the summoner boy now laying still as blood pooled around his head. He moved to help staunch the unnatural bleeding with several glittering enchantments.

"You're lucky I was here, mon ami," Dante muttered to the unconscious Potter. "Those forbidden rituals never end well." With the unnatural hemorrhaging stopped, Dante carefully lifted the boy and carried him over to Eris' shield of radiant light.

"One emergency patient for you, professeure," Dante said, laying Potter down beside the other injured students. "Try to get some sense back into this one once he's stable."

Sir Braxus slowly panned across the room. "How long until they are ready to continue?" He grumbled continuing to assess the situation. But even the jaded old dragonborn couldn't keep a hint of pride from his voice as he gazed upon the young heroes who had risen to the challenge before them.

After the initial shock from the appearance of the demon, he rushes to help Echo and some of the other students. He remembers the cafe she mentioned before all hell broke loose, but will bring it up later. "That was terrible..." He feels bad about not being able to help more and if he hears about any students who died it will weigh on him considerably. "I can't fix all your wounds, but I can help a little bit..." Thomas uses [Temporal Restoration]. A shimmery green, almost transparent wave moves outward in a circle for fifteen feet, removing small cuts and bruises from any other injured students. I wasn't good enough. Again! I only caused more damage because the student's spells hit everyone else other than the intended target...

Noelle was still enjoying the fact she was able to break the stone. Then she noticed the big glassed boy that slipped past the bullies while she was distracting them as going to try the test. But things didn’t go so well and the boy accidentally summoned a demon. Chaos broke out and Noelle was lucky to not be hit by the demon’s initial rampage. What is she to do now? The demon was big and looked strong. Like hell, Noelle can deal with it at her current strength. But she had to do something, anything.
Noelle’s attention was drawn when a barrier was erected by Lady Eris. At this point, it was way too dangerous while the demon was still out there rampaging. So Noelle chooses her safety over trying to act like a hero. She quickly got inside the barrier and looked with bated breath at how the scene unfolded.

The teacher and several students had engaged with the demon. The time mage Noelle saw earlier at the test used a spell on the demon that, in her eyes, slightly displaced the beast which made some of the attacks other students miss their target and even hit each other. To make matters worse the demon unleashed another barrage of attacks It was painful to see this carnage. Seeing The raven-haired proctor starting to drag some of the injured students to the barrier Noelle knew what she could do to help. She slipped out of the barrier and also started to help drag injured students to the barrier. As far as she was able to at least.

In the end, Amanda, Lady Eris and that ridiculously strong fae girl were able to defeat the demon. A wave of relief has ashed through the hall. But this is just the beginning of the aftermath.
With the demon gone Noelle dared to go further from the barrier and reach the people closer to where the demon was. That was when she noticed Bartholomew who looked like he was in pain. "y-you okay?" Noele said as she got closer to the second-year student. She winced seeing the half-melted face of the bully but she quickly regained her composure. "THAT LOOKS TERRIBLE!! Can you move!? If you can go to the teacher to get that treated as soon as possible!!" She said to him before turning to his half-orc friend. "You’re his friend, right? Make sure he gets to the teacher and other wounded to get treated. Use force if you have to. But get him there! You understand!? I will go and see if I can help others!" She said forcefully to Ragnar before running away. Noelle did feel a bit intimidated by the two. Which was why she left the escorting of the mage over to his fighter friend. She hoped the two would have listened to her order. Even if he is a bully. No one deserves to suffer from such a wound.
It was then that Noelle knew what was about to happen. The euphoria of defeating the demon has resided. And now came the realisation of the damage that has been done to everyone. The dread and fear of seeing all who got hurt. All who got injured. To be honest. Noelle also felt a bit fearful of seeing all that hurt. She knew what she could do now. Noelle got her Lyre and started to play a soothing tune. She hoped that it would calm the minds of the people around so they could momentarily forget the carnage and focus on recovery.

Amanda's thoughts raced as the aftermath of the battle settled around her. The demon, Volthor, had been banished, and the threat had been neutralized. As her initial adrenaline rush began to ebb, she found herself grappling with the implications of the encounter. The idea that this malevolent entity had claimed to be a god now seemed like nothing more than a deceitful ruse.

She cast a weary yet satisfied glance at her companions. Their collective efforts had not only saved lives but had also exposed the demon's claims for the falsehoods they were. Amanda was content with the banishment of the so-called god and hoped that the academy could now return to its usual rhythm. Though given some of the proctor's reactions, perhaps this was normal.

However, her relief was short-lived as the aftermath of the battle came into sharp focus. The damage caused by the demon's attacks was extensive, and Amanda's concern shifted to her fellow students who had been injured in the chaos. Seeing the extent of the harm inflicted, she realized that medical expertise was urgently needed.

Upon seeing Eris stepping forward to tend to the injured students, Amanda recognized the priestess's divine healing abilities. Her own proficiency lay more in the realm of crafting and city planning, and she acknowledged that her skills were not suited for this situation. She set aside the enchanted metal slab, understanding that there were priorities beyond her immediate expertise.

As her attention shifted to the unconscious Potter, Amanda couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. The boy's foolish use of forbidden magic had triggered this calamity, and Amanda knew that the consequences would be severe. Regardless of his fate, he had put lives in danger and tarnished the sanctity of the academy.

Observing Dante's actions in tending to Potter, Amanda appreciated the tiefling's assistance and expertise in the magical arts. As he carried the unconscious boy within Eris's protective barrier, Amanda hoped that Potter would receive the necessary treatment. The implications of his actions were weighty, and Amanda understood that his future at the academy was uncertain at best.

Turning her attention to Sir Braxus, Amanda found herself confronting another aspect of the aftermath. With a sigh, she approached the dragonborn warrior, the gravity of the situation apparent in her expression.

"Sir Braxus," Amanda addressed him, her voice respectful but concerned. "Given the circumstances and the forbidden magic that Potter employed, what do you intend to do with him? Will he be held here or escorted to the capital for judgment? He has committed a taboo and as such the kingdom will undoubtidly call for his exile if not worse" She knew that Sir Braxus's decision would likely carry significant consequences for Potter's future, and Amanda was curious to see how the academy would handle this complex situation. That being said, would the Dragonborn be so bold as to harbor a criminal in the presence of a baron's aid? [Law Expert]

The creature fell to the ground with a satisfying "thump." She had half a mind to appraise it but considering it had taken less than a hay minute to fell, she decided against it. Certainly, it helped that the know-it-all had blown a hole in its armor with her magic, though she was uncertain it would have made much of a difference considering the creature had fallen to a single spear. Unceremoniously she bent down and picked up her spear, bones still shrieking in protest at her every movement. 'I might have overdone it a bit...' As Thomas approached her and enveloped the area in a field that rewound wounds, she had the sudden feeling of nostalgia; the sensation of her wounds experiencing negative entropy, her lifeblood pooling about her in a way that seemed to cause the injury to flow backwards.

The world seemed to melt away from her as she stood in the garden of her memory, just a child again, hands blistered and bleeding from hours of spear drills at the hands of Scathach, that madwoman they had hired to teach her the art of war. She had gone crying to an elder. Her father? No, more likely it had been her grandfather, but she got the feeling it was someone even older still. The odd sensation of her stomach turning upside-down as chronomancy reknit the flesh she had worn raw, restored neural bridges she had burned out via pure frustration. As she stood there, truly rejuvenated, she thanked the person before the memory left her, his name had been 'Dagda'

She found herself still standing in the exam hall, the aftermath of the demon manifestation had slowly been dealt with. Music was playing, a gentle tune echoing against the walls of the building; her body still ached, the skin on her hands raw from harnessing all her might. 'I suppose Thomas is still new to the discipline, it'd be unreasonable to expect complete restoration.' Thankfully, between Eris's healing and his she was mostly back in fighting shape.

"How long until they are ready to continue?" The dragonkin's words brought her fully back to the present. She was eager to get these exams over with and enjoy a hot bath, something to soothe the aches away. Of course, things could not have been so easy, and the know-it-all started asking about the fate of the boy who had caused the incident, citing the reason as to why he should be
exiled. It seemed a fairly lenient punishment, all things considered. Not that she would have blamed the boy, he didn't mean to summon the thing, probably. 'Then again, the Giant did say "summoned me again," so this had happened at least once before...'

Crossing her arms, she closed her eyes and contemplated the situation, what would Lugh do? Ultimately, she decided she didn't care, and took out the parcel of food from breakfast, grabbing a piece of pemmican from it and popping it into her mouth. As she chewed, she could not help but notice Thomas was seemingly more dejected than usual. Considering he had helped jog her memory, the least she could do was try and return the favor. Taking out her tablet, she wrote down a few sentences and then put a consoling hand on his back.

She showed him the tablet, which read, "Mighty mage or not, you can't just brute force everything. Sending the Giant into the future and sending its heart into the future both accomplish the deal with it, but one uses considerably less mana."
