Avatar Creation:
Project Name: (name of Avatar)
Avatar Id: (identification number, there are a lot of these guys, after all)
Appearance: (Their appearance, both written description and picture)
Creator: (name of company/independant programmer)
Persona: (Type of personality creators intended during development, this plays in part with your signature skill.)
[A greater breadth of information regarding these things are further below. Please read before doing anything.]
Avatar Classification:
Number of Loadout Slots : (All Avatars start off with 5 slots which are filled by ‘modules’, not counting the Signature Ability of the Avatar. These slots can be allocated to any combination of modules that the user has available, but only outside of combat.)
Signature Skill: (The cool super powerful skill (see the abilities tab))
List of Modules: (abilities, powers, weapons, armor, etc.)
Age: (None greater than 4)
Origin: (Background/“lore” While realistically very young, your characters may have had past that span much farther back than the decade this game was released. These have been fabricated by their creators, but very much real to your character. If you’d like to keep it simple, just have a short list of achievements during active life. Nothing big, we will all be playing ‘no-names’ here.)
Popularity Rating: (assigned by a GM after CS is accepted)
Miscellaneous: (yeah.)
- Avatar Classifications!
-
Avatar Classifications:
Please note: If an Avatar fits into no categories, it will take on the names of the two it is most like. Such as “Elim-Neg” or “Mani-Accel”. After all, classes are just a system to define Avatars, and not a system to force Avatars into pre-selected roles.
Eliminator : Eliminators focus on heavy, concentrated attacks to take down their foes as efficiently and quickly as possible. They focus on using one or many melee-range weapons, which often have their own built-in powers or specialties. All eliminators have basic control over abilities, but they aren’t nearly as good as other classes are with them. Their signature skills are usually much stronger than other classes, with a much longer cooldown.
Accelerator: Accelerators focus on their speed to have as much presence on the field of combat as possible. Their strikes may be weaker than other melee-oriented classes, but they make up for this drawback in sheer number, striking already a number of times when their counterparts barely get in one. They have solid control over abilities, as well as a strong weapon. However, their focus on offense and speed makes them weaker in the defensive department.
Manifestor : Manifestors focus on abilities entirely, and for this reason, do not carry weapons until higher tiers of play when they have more slots at their disposal. This class only applies to Avatars that use their abilities primarily for damage.
Detonator: Detonators are ranged-weapon focused Avatars. They can take on characteristics similar to eliminators or accelerators, however, they will never use melee range weapons.
Negator: Negators are another type of ability-only Avatar class. They use their abilities to control and change the battlefield, as well as to shut down other Avatars and keep them from using their abilities, to keep them from moving, etc. They are masters of crowd control, and do not usually use weapons.
Retaliator: Retaliators are a hybrid class, getting both a relatively strong weapon, and a relatively strong set of abilities. They can be ranged or melee Avatars, and their abilities can be any number of strange or unique combinations. What separates these Avatars into their own class is their playstyle. Any Avatar in this class primarily focuses on punishing the mistakes of their opponent.
Mitigator: Mitigators focus on only one thing: to take as much damage as possible, and still survive just fine. Their damage output, predictably, is quite low. However, their defensive capabilities are unparalleled. They typically use a mix between abilities and weaponry, but focus on protection over power.

Codex of Modularity :
Just as any world, Avarice and its inhabitants must follow specific rules governed by a greater system than their own. In this case, it is the ‘Universal Codex’ upheld by the the collection of advanced A.I. running every aspect of the game. One such rule governs the balance of the game in terms of Avatar strength, known as the ‘God Template’.
When creators set about pre-packaging new Avatars with abilities and weapons, they must understand the limitations the system enforces in order to maintain balance in the universe or otherwise be rejected, and terminated. While there is less strict control over the physical design of an Avatar, modules present during creation are required to follow the God Template or are deemed too overpowered and too difficult to balance and rejected by the Universal Codex. Those who are considered too weak, strangely enough, are ignored and allowed to finish development. Some creators speculate that this is more than likely a integral bug in the system waiting to be patched. Some even contemplate that this is perhaps a cruel joke by the game designers.
Part of this God Template is understanding the nature of the very game’s intended design and philosophy, which is being a fantastical spectator sport. Thus, to provide clarity to all parties involved, all items, abilities, and weapons are divided and classified by their given [Effects] as dictated by this guideline. This generates a more directed and enjoyable viewing experience for the on-looking “players”, having to understand the chaotic battles rapidly unfolding before them, while also serving as a way of giving each Avatar strengths and weaknesses to uphold necessary balance. By knowing what will happen and what won’t, this institutes more thoughtful, in-depth combat, while also giving Avatars a unique identity to the audience.
[Signature] Abilities:
Abilities and Equipment labeled as [Signature] are the most defining powers an Avatar can utilize, serving as part of their integral functionality. Being highly versatile and devastating, only being limited to a combination of 8 [Common] and [[Exclusive]] effects. These modules are, however, restricted to one per Avatar as they must be implemented during the conceptual-design period. Because abilities that share [Effects] with their Signature Ability are stronger, they serve to enforce Avatars to certain themes. This also makes it so no Avatar is all-powerful in every aspect. Signature skills, whether they apply as a weapon skill or as an ability, fall victim to a lengthy cooldown or some other disabling factor after use. Though not all Signature abilities must be room clearing nukes, they are all devastating and impactful in their own way. Be Creative!
That said, all Avatars have a certain number of “Slots” they may fill with abilities and/or weapons. Starting-out Avatars have 5 slots, unless their initial airing is enough to push them up to a higher number of slots. Also, signature skills do not count towards the number of slots. (More on that in the “Popularity Rating” section)
Garbage Tier - 0 Loadout Slots
Garbage abilities and weapons are, surprisingly, rarer and harder to find than common tier- as they simply aren’t made. The weapons of this category have no effects, save for their innate ones, and abilities in this category may only have one effect- rendering them practically useless.
>Common< Tier - 1 Loadout Slots:
Common abilities and weapons are the kind Avatars can buy from in-game stores, or get after winning easy battles. They, like all abilities, can be swapped in and out at will, so long as the Avatar is not in any form of combat. (NOTE: All melee weapons have the innate [Melee] effect, and all ranged weapons have the innate [Ranged] effect, and these do not count against the amount of effects available.)
Common Abilities can be used by any Avatar and start off limited to 3 [Effects] as well as having no [[Exclusive Effect]].
>>Unique<< Tier - 2 Loadout Slots:
Unique abilities are much more difficult to obtain, and because no two are alike, they are highly sought after and valuable. They are often of great use during engagements, and can have some of the most “unique” effects during a battle. Winning tournaments, beating opponents of much higher difficulty, seeking out these abilities in special in-game shops, and completing special quests, will have a chance to reward the avatar with these powers.
Unique Abilities start off limited to 5 [Effects], but are allowed to have both the [[Exclusive]] and [Common] effects.
<<Legendary>> Tier - 3 or more Loadout Slots:
Objects that fall under this category are extremely rare and few know their limits. Entities of Avarice view those who have acquired these powers as truly “Legendary” and are occasionally worshipped for their possession of them. It is said weapons and abilities in this tier offer a massive number of [Effects], both unique and common, which grant them power near or beyond the level of a {Signature} ability. Perhaps they can go even further beyond the power of a world boss.
Examples of [Common] Effects: [Fire], [Projectile], [AOE], [DOT], [Shielding], etc.
Examples of [[Exclusive]] Effects: [[Gravity]] [[Elemental Deflection]] []Absorption]], etc Simply put, if something seems like it would be potentially complicated to use, it would be put in the exclusive category of effects. - Items!
-
ITEMS:
There are five different tiers of consumable items, and every Avatar can carry a maximum of three items at a time. Your popularity rating determines which tiers of items you may use. All items are free (they’re digital, after all), granted that you qualify for that tier of item. Each item in the categories below is only a type of item you will see, as the shop the avatar walks into will determine exactly what the item does and its properties. Any mentioning of stats we make is completely arbitrary. We will never ask the players to keep track of health/stamina/etc, these are just to enhance your sweet juicy roleplaying experience - actually, you do have to keep track of your popularity points. srynotsry.

- Popularity Rating!
-
Popularity Rating:
Popularity Ratings are determined based on the success of the Avatar in missions, how appealing it is to the populace, and its initial viewing. (No Avatars over tier one is allowed at this point.) Every fifty popularity points, and an Avatar can enhance one ability or weapon in a way of their choice. When they do this, the ability/weapon gets a + next to its name. This can mean new effects or simply buffing a pre-existing one. Each ability or weapon can only be enhanced three times, each enhancement costing four times as much as the last. Every one hundred popularity points, your Avatar unlocks a new Loadout Slot to use. Every two hundred popularity points, and your Avatar unlocks access to the next tier of items, which they may acquire at any applicable vendor, for free.
Note: Popularity points cannot be spent on these things, only that it “unlocks” them. However, popularity points can be lost, and if they dip below certain amounts you will lose access to skills enhanced by those points/unlocked by those points. - Battles!
-
Contention of Combat:
Because the Avatars live in an Augmented Reality of the city of Kansto, space around them can bend in ways to better fit their shapes and forms. This is especially important in the spectator sport of Avarice! If two avatars meet on the street and decide to fight, or if an avatar and a non-avatar entity meet and decide to fight, time will stop around them in the augmented reality and the space will immediately twist to form a fighting arena. Say two Avatars decide to fight on a sidewalk- the sidewalk becomes a circular arena, and space warps in the surrounding area to make an official fighting area (similar to the random encounters found in old-school turn based video games). Aside from that, there are no real rules to battles. Popularity points will be automatically given out to each side, whether or not they lost. All battles are immediately broadcast to any subscriber of Avarice following Avatars involved, or to any subscriber nearby (though, the Avatars cannot see the real world, only the augmented version of it they live in). Lastly, of course, battles can contain any number of sides of opponents (1v1v1v1v1vetc) and any number of opponents per side (1v99, 99v99, etc).
- Missions!
-
Mission types:
Just like our world, this one is constantly moving. All its inhabitants live out their own lives separate to our own, trying to survive in the constantly evolving ecosystem. The ‘Entities (NPCS)’ have even built an entire history in this chaotic existence, from tragic wars and age-long rivalries to holidays they celebrate, having been pre-generated and simulated by the A.I. system when the game was first aired ten years ago. The NPC’s have faced a tumultuous past, and the future is even more uncertain for them. Because of this, there is almost always a steady supply of missions to be accepted and carried out.
Posted on local Mission Boards all across the world, these quests are categorized by these generalized factors and may contain any number of them: Search, Rescue, Destroy, Protect, Acquire, and Special.
‘Challenges’ are missions that can be issued by any organization by paying a large sum, specifying the Avatar(s) they wish to partake. These cannot be turned down by the Avatars involved. These often trigger large events that warp the shape of the world, sometimes taking whole weeks or months to complete, but the missions always offer great rewards. - Bosses!
-
Bosses:
More difficult missions will often involve a particularly powerful monster being spawned somewhere in the world, who promptly proceeds to wreak havoc upon the neighboring populous. These bosses range in strength from simple brutes with clubs, to world-ending deities of destruction. Sometimes armies of Avatars will fail in their fight against these bosses, many losing even their lives. It is not unheard of for a boss existing in an area for a long stretch of time, their bounty unclaimed as they roam the virtual landscape growing in strength as they devour the corpses of those who fail. Those bosses who have acquired untolds amounts of power are considered as >>World Boss<< requiring the strength of an army to merely repel.
Some >>World Bosses<< include:
>>Belial<<, Prince of the Inferno;
Resting deep below the surface of the world, his minions and demonspawn constantly harass those living above, pillaging and bringing back riches to his demonic molten catacombs. One of the original >>World Bosses<<, it is said high level Avatars are still trying to defeat him and attain his hordes of treasure.
>>Gahrn<<, Spine of the World:
A massive aquatic whale that rests at the edges of the mainlands in the world of Avarice, whose spine forms a vast mountain range in the middle of the ocean. It is so gargantuan in scale that an entire ecosystem that is sustained by the very presence of >>Gahrn<< itself. Because of this docile nature, many find >>Gahrn<< contradicting to its very existence, considered by many to be a fortune-bearing deity than some calamitous being. Some lorekeepers say it has gathered strength not from killing, but rather, through sheer age.
>>Joyirr<<, The Plague Beast:
The ominous plague beast slumbers upon the festering rotted heap of the civilization it destroyed long ago. When it stirs and yawns, the scent of its tainted breath is known to cause a plague in a nearby region.
>>Stein<<, the Stitcher:
Another boss, one among many spawned during a Friday the 13th event a few years ago. He was spawned in the Remote Districts of Kansto, and is the youngest to have acquired the title of >>World Boss<< and has since escaped the metropolitan jungle and settled deep in the forests of Morgan Hill State to conduct experiments away from ‘pesky’ Avatars. A master of the arcane art of necromancy, he sutures haggard technology to his servants to create grotesque fusions of flesh and machine.
- Hub City!
-
The glint of skyscrapers and airliners fill the horizon and a bustling of life can be felt everywhere as the scents of shops and restaurants give off a relaxing mood. At the LAUNCH Hub, the selection of shops is endless, and the mission boards constantly let out their intimidating reddish glow, filling the atmosphere with a mixture of dread and glee. Just to the south, the EUPHORIA Tournament Hub floats in the sky, whizzing through the city’s skylines and bringing with it the jeers and cheers of hundreds of thousands of fans. However, this pleasant atmosphere quickly sours when heading away from the safe upper city, down the lifts to the rest of the city layered below. It seemed all that had existed above was a tenuous effort of restoration. What can be seen down below is a horror scene. An eerie orange dimness hums and fills in whatever the shadows do not. Many districts and zones are abandoned. The entire underground is an apocalyptic wasteland. Though similar to the upper city, with the same wide, complex mazes of sidewalks and streets, darting in and out, up and down, metal scraps and appliances are littered everywhere, and a layer of decay and rust has accumulated on everything. Many of these spaces have even been completely overgrown with strange and exotic flora and nests for strange creatures, that roam around the same piles of rotted corpses and plucked-clean bones for eternity. Many Avatars and Entities frequently go on scavenger hunts in these outlying Remote Districts to find pieces to sell and improve, but few ever return.
The city of Kansto is the gathering point of many Avatars, both young and old, both wise and dumb. This city is integral to the sport of Avarice, as it is both the bustling hub-world where new Avatars spawn in, and is home to the most popular arenas and tournaments. Despite being home to all sorts of freakish, outlandish beings, as well as just normal-looking npcs modeled after people, the culture is not much unlike that of normal civilizations- in fact, it could be argued that it is far, far better.
Just under Kansto are The Ruins, modeled after the dead city living below, Yansto, the offspring of a century of misunderstanding and war. They are frequented by NPC’s and Avatars alike, as it is a very good place to harvest loot. There are dozens of cities just like this in Avarice- will you explore them all?
- Life!
-
All avatars live in this world of Avarice, a game made for them by Human kind, rather, “The Creators.” In the human world, it is an amazingly popular spectator sport, that has taken over a majority of the world.
But what does this mean for the Avatars, whom you play?
Every fight is real to them- yes, they know they are AI, but as stating before, they know that performing poorly likely results in termination, or fading into obscurity for no one to be able to find, ever, ever again. If they fight in “safe zones” such as tournaments and other server officiated events, they will be protected, but outside of these areas in places such as “The Ruins” below Kansto, avatars that are defeated instantly die, also known as ‘Game Over’, their source code forever lost to both their Creator and the mysterious machines that keep Avarice running.
That said, enjoy the rp!
Ah, man, that was a lot of work.
Hah..
