Futuristic Attack on Reus - Space Age Pacific Rim/Mecha RP

Welcome! You may call me Mythy, and this is my latest RP idea. Look it over and feel free to ask questions or chat, or hopefully even join in!

The premise of this RP is that the players are part of a squadron of Mecha Regios pilots on the front line of the battle against the Kaiju Reus. They will be one among many to be given the mission of pushing back the Reus, reclaiming worlds, and perhaps even finding and destroying the source of these beasts.

The Rani:

The Rani are a bio-silicate being which were nomadic following the destruction of their homeworld by Reus, and before their adoption by humans. They are remarkably similar to humans with a few major differences. First, their body heat tends to be much warmer, thus they tend to dress down. And second, their bio-silicate tail can interface directly with a Regios or other electronics. There has not been a noticeable advantage between this and the standard VR connection Rig that human pilots use.

As well, they are less diverse in their beliefs and culture, due to being a space-based nomad fleet for so long. However, they have begun to adapt and adopt to human cultures and beliefs in the many years since. Some humans still wonder if they were the original creators of the Reus.

The Regios:

Regios are the main line of defense in fighting against the Reus threat. Each one is powered by a Rani core called the heart and are always a simple skeleton when rolled out of a birthing factory. The body is made up of nanomachines which automatically sync with the pilot and change the interior, exterior and systems to best suit the pilot's style. There are four main classes of Regios, though as always with the diversity of living beings there is room for some overlap

The Reus:

Giant bio-silicate monsters, they are the largest threat to humans and Rani, with forces that can take on or counter every conventional and Regios-based weapon toe-to-toe. For every battle that is won, a battle is lost. And with it a fleet, city, or even planet. They come in all various shapes and sizes, though what follows is a general overview of classes:

Beast Class I - Smaller, left normally to military tanks and smaller battle suits.

Beast Class II - Half the size of a Regios, more of a danger due to the tendency to swarm.

Beast Class III - Regios Size, can be a 1 on 1 threat with Regios usually.

Dragon Class I - Normal flyer types.

Dragon Class II - Bombers, targets are usually cities and bases.

Dragon Class III - Equivalent of Navy Carriers, tends to transport other Reus.

Dragon Class IV - A type of Leviathan, equivalent to Navy Dreadnoughts.

Stalker Class I - Regios Size, quick slasher type.

Stalker Class II - Regios size, sniper type.

Leviathan Classes
I is Regios size with heavy firepower or melee ability, and grow all the way to class V which are about 3 times the size, and only been recorded once in a battle that destroyed a PLANET, the Rani homeworld.


The Galaxy:

Terra - Earth - is the core-most world that is inhabited by humans and Rani. The original human homeworld, Earth is very much the definition of a Utopia. Fixed and stable climate, gleaming megalopolises, perfect application of life-technologies. The central seat of government is on Terra, a council of humans and Rani which proposes and enacts galactic change in law.

Spread out from there, many many colony worlds exist. Some are more simple, rural, farming planets. Some are more gleaming megalopolis with plenty to distract a weary soul - unless they want a place to truly commune with nature. Spattered amongst the planets are Regios academies and factories, where new pilots are trained to fight the Reus threat, and more Regios are grown around the mystical 'heart' to fight with each pilot.

Soldier Gear:
Armor seen in the picture is equipped with a jet-pack and he always carries two duel energy pistols for those moments where gun kata is needed. Other than that, Klaern travels pretty bare.

Regios Specs:
The Argo has average armor capabilities for a sniper class Regios, it's real power resides in it's main weapon. It's main weapon is a prototype rail-gun manufactured on a far away alien world that claims to be able to make some of the farthest shots in the galaxy. That, and the Regios' legs and back-thrusters are angled in such a way that allows the machine to make shots while on the move.

Personality:
Klaern embodies the euphemism 'married to the job'. Always serious, his first and last thoughts are always the eradication of the Reus and he is ruthless in pursuing such goal. While this ruthlessness has made Klaern a highly regarded soldier among his comrades, more often then not it has landed him in hot water with the brass.

History:
For as long as Klaern could remember, him and his parents were the nomadic traders that traveled to many-a-world selling their wares. They would often travel the galaxy, seeking various customers, and when the customers ran out or when their products were no longer in demand, the family moved to another world, ready to start again. While this constant moving around has made Klaern familiar with various alien cultures, more than what the average human would be exposed to, the constant traveling never allowed to make any friends, and, more importantly, Klaern didn't see such a way of living as 'fun'. When he was a child, his father would often show vid-disks of large things called 'Regios' who protected the galaxy from all kinds of threats.

As soon as the Reus attacked, Klaern saw this as the perfect opportunity to live out his wildest dreams and become a real Regios pilot. What was even more better, Klearn realized early on that he had a knack for righting in the large machine, and soon embraced the soldier culture, making the universe safe one Reus at a time.​
 
Old Danish vet incoming. Used to be German, then I realised that I was using Reinhardt's armour as the mech and I realised that going for a German name too may have been cutting it a little close.

Gudbrand doesn't look quite as old as he is, especially since his hair is only recently beginning to grey. He has the presence of a younger man, although this changes rapidly when Gudbrand is feeling particularly sagely and wise. Gudbrand is a somewhat tall and well-built man, standing a little above many of his compatriots, though not nearly freakishly so. He is in very good shape for a man his age, and spends a great deal of time maintaining this level of fitness and good health. His casual outfits tend to be like the picture, lending him a rough air of adventure and roguishness.


Soldier Gear

A rapid-fire shotgun generally firing a buck shot-equivalent to deal with swarms of soft targets, although it can also fire incredibly powerful slugs that can punch a large hole through many a protection, be it an exoskeleton, chitin, or military-grade body armour. As a secondary, Gudbrand uses a huge-calibre double action gauss revolver with armour-piercing rounds. These hit harder than the shotgun slugs, but are fired less rapidly, and are just overall fewer in number. Gudbrand's armour is equipped with a jump pack, as standard, and is fairly up-armoured compared to the regular, as he reasons that it's better to be able to take hits than always need to be dodging around.


Personality

Gudbrand is not afraid to make hard choices, and tends to prioritise the long term over the short term when making them, and in general. He is very worldly and experienced, with much advice to pass on to the younger generation, be it tips on keeping a Reus off your back in the field, advice on handling toxic friends, or a general perspective on life. He has a tendency to be blunt about things, although won't obsessively be so, and knows when taking a softer tack is more useful. He is actually rather easy-going, always ready to sling a witty crack and throw back a beer, and not liking to get into competitions with people. Getting wrapped up in just one goal, or one aspect of his life, is something Gudbrand avoids like the plague, as he views it as obsessive and unhealthy. He's good at seeing things in perspective, and at times seems inappropriately relaxed, taking losses and failures in stride.

Gudbrand has a very stable personality, emotions changing slowly rather than on a dime. He's often upbeat and optimistic, seeing little point in being worried about something if there isn't anything he can really do about it. Under this boisterous, outgoing personality lies a thoughtful intelligence and a certain cunning, which have both served him well. The best soldiers are clever and knowledgeable, after all, and this is something Gudbrand knows well. One could have all the skill in the world, but that does nothing if you charge into an ambush and get torn apart from three directions at once. Gudbrand has seen many die, and he is not keen to follow in their footsteps, nor for others to do so. As such, he often opts on the side of caution and safety, rather than taking risky gambles.


Biography

Gudbrand was born on Terra to a very upper-class family of business executives, and thus had many comforts and luxuries showered on him. He grew up hero-worshiping the Regios and their pilots, wishing to one day become one, but his parents had other ideas, grooming him to be able to take over the reins of their corporations when he inherited them, as they did with his two sisters. They did, however, concede to allowing him to indulge what they saw as a 'passing fad', buying him all manner of tutors and books and such, all related to the military and martial pursuits. Under the expert guidance of some of the best trainers and teachers money could buy, Gudbrand's certainty in his next courses of action became certain, especially upon being lauded by his favourite, a retired Regio veteran and current self-defence teacher called Erin Chou, as one of the most dedicated students she'd ever taught, and told his parents that the hard work was very obviously paying off. His parents, for their part, saw little harm in this sort of business. Gudbrand was still progressing well in his business-related studies, and it was a cutthroat world at the higher ends of the food chain, so learning to fight as he was couldn't be a bad thing.

Their opinion changed when, at twenty three, Gudbrand up and vanished, covering his tracks and leaving no trail of where he went. It didn't take long for his parents to suspect where he'd gone, but he'd been planning his escape for far too long to be so easily tracked down, and by the time his parents' extensive web of contacts and resources had located him, he was already firmly entrenched in the military and doing well, on his way to great heights and, importantly for his parents, greater public recognition. His sisters had stepped up to the plate as the main heirs of the corps, so that role was filled, and eventually a deal was brokered between Gudbrand and his parents. They'd let him stay in the military, where he wanted to be, he'd switch back to his real name, and his presence on the front lines would end up getting leveraged for publicity purposes, starting up a minor fad of corporate familial connection to the military as some corporate families exploited the avenue that had been shown to them.

Fast forward a couple of decades, Gudbrand is now a veteran and accomplished soldier with a track record of success and a tempered outlook on life, less enthusiastic and obsessed, more aware of the realities of life outside of a pampered corporate tower, and almost unrecognisable compared to how he was when he first ran off from home. Despite the mutual agreement he and his family hashed out, he hasn't properly interacted with them for some years, and he still has not been home yet, as he and his family are not on the best terms, and only his younger sister Emilie and her branch of the family honestly likes Gudbrand, though the rest keep up the act of being proud of their brother/son at war, fighting the good fight. While in public, anyway. Through all this time, Gudbrand has skillfully avoided love, as while he has had relationships, none have worked out properly. Gudbrand is pretty sure that's a good thing at this point, as he's seen what it can do to other soldiers.

Regios Name

Sigurd


Regios Classification

Bruiser


Regios Specs

There are two obvious things about Sigurd. First of all, its heavy armour and great bulk, making it quite tough, along with the servos and other driving methods granting it amazing strength and a surprisingly speedy movement, although none too graceful. However, the second obvious thing, the bloody huge hammer it uses as its main weapon, cares not for grace, only the sheer impact of its blows. It has blasters on the rear of its head which can be activated to grant ever more powerful and swift swings, and Sigurd's arms and shoulders are built with the hammer in mind, tuned and designed to maximise the impact of the hammer. The hammer itself is made of hyper-dense and incredibly tough materials, so as not to break in the middle of a battle.

Saying this, Sigurd is not helpless without its hammer, though it is rare indeed to find Sigurd without the hammer. The same forces that provide such a powerful swing can also be put to work in bludgeoning Reus into submission with its fists alone, or with whatever else happens to be handy. All this means that Sigurd has little to no ranged offense, able to only charge forward and rely on armour and forceshielding to weather whatever storm gets thrown its way.​

Soldier Gear:
Amara has a tech suit and weapon that she created herself. The armor is strong enough to protect her and light enough for her to move around in. Makes it easier for to fight. The two round X's on her hair actually create a helmet. She presses the one on the right and forms a helmet around her head. For weapons she has this box, that she can attach to her leg, and there are buttons on it that can transform it to a sword or a gun.

It's very agile with great jump power. It's guns are located in each arm and has free hands incase things get close and personal.

Personality:
Amara is strong-willed, athletic and very intelligent but she can also be very ditzy and absent-minded. Amara has a strong sense of justice. Even though Amara loves tech and working on mercenary she also has major obsessions for fashion, boys, and money. Amara may seem like a major ditz, but she can become frightening when she gets angry. Amara also has a habit of talking to herself whenever she is venting which can make her seem strange.

History:
The Heart family is a very wealthy family and known for their tech and machinery. They have always had geniuses that created new ideas for Regios. Everyone knows the name Heart. Every member has always continued the calling except her father. Her father never went into the family business. He was never interested. He just wanted live a normal life without being evolved in it all. Her grandfather wasn't to happy about it and refused to give him any part of the family wealth. But it didn't matter to him and ended up living a middle class life which was all he really wanted. Soon enough her father got married and Amara was born. As she was growing up her teachers began to noticed how smart she was and felt that she should be going to more of a tech school because of her skills. Her parents at first weren't going to do it but Amara's grandfather hearing about it took control of the situation. Her grandfather was quite pleased seeing his granddaughter was genius, so he decided to take her under his wing and teach her himself. During this time he also had her trained in combat. Her grandfather had decided she be the first in the family to become a Regios pilot. It would boost the family name even more then ever. She worked night and day not having very much free time. It also didn't help the strained relationship her father and grandfather had. Her father wanted her living a normal life but her grandfather refused to let her talents go to waste. Now because of her grandfather's connections and she did actually past the test. She has just joined the Ragios pilots and she is also the youngest to ever join.

Amara never had much say in what she wanted. When she was younger she was actually a quiet shy girl but her personality began to change. She had to get tough because of the career she was going into and the lack of freedom made her restless and slightly crazy. You can tell she desperately wants to be a normal teenager because of the things she obsessive over. But she did actually love what she does but part of her wishes she could lived normal and waited until later. But seeing her grandfather so proud she doesn't want to disappoint him plus the Heart name is a heavy burden and a lot of important people are judging her. She has to appear perfect which is hard because she can make mistakes. She ended up making her own armor at her grandfather's request to keep up a good image.

Extra note:
Amara also has a younger 12 year old sister named Laurel.
