Who says you have to be consistent? The only time you should worry about that is if you're doing animation or a chronological comic series. I range from photo-realism to extreme point-and-swoop cartoon style based on the feel I want. A comic wouldn't be as funny if I used a realistic style. The extreme distortions of a cartoony style will offer me a tool that realism just can't provide. Don't worry about a consistent style!
