Age: 35

Height: 6' 4"

Weight: (without armor) 250 lbs

Hair: Black

Eyes: Brown

Body Marks: Body scarring

Biography

Birth Place: St. Catherine's Bay, Adanaque

Date of Birth: 2 Nware 962

Nationality: Adanaquean?

Personality: If Archus had a real life philosopher of ethics assigned to his character, it would be Immanuel Kant. He believes in deontological morality, that no matter what the result is, one must always do the action that is morally right. It isn't easy to be considered one of Archus's friends, but if one did receive that honor, it would take an immense misdeed for Archus to revoke it. Archus loves everyone he considers a friend, so he doesn't dole out the term lightly. Once he respects someone and likes them enough to be friends, he is loyal to the end and will go to great length to assist them and protect them. Archus can be kind, sweet, and compassionate, but he doesn't have a great sense of humor. Above all, Archus is honest, to him, treachery and deceit are hand in hand, lying is something he would never do, not even to protect someone. Honesty is the only policy, in his book. Respect is also very important to Archus. He doesn't necessarily care if others respect him, but he does act differently towards people who have or haven't earned his. Archus values dignity and honor among allies and enemies alike, chivalry is in his nature and he expects it from everyone he meets.

2 Positive Traits: Loyal: Loyalty, keeping one's word, defending one's allies, these concepts are core to Archus.

No fear of death: He knows his afterlife will be glorious, the world he currently exists in is but a test.

2 Negative Traits:

Judgemental: As a devout believer of his religion's truth, he is quick to condemn those who act immorally.

Hasty: Because his moral code is so clearly defined, it doesn't take long for him to act on something, it doesn't involve much critical thinking as to the outcome of his actions either.

Weaknesses: Slow in combat, slow to accept new ideas, idealistic, naive, doesn't compromise ideals even if the situation demands it.

History: (INB4 vague non descriptive backstory, IDK THE LORE K)

Archus was born in a fishing village along St. Catherine's Bay in Adanaque. For two years he lived a simple village life, with his father and mother. His father was a candidate to become a village elder once he grew in years, he was a simple man with strong values, and he sure could catch a fish. Everyone knew everyone else in the village personally, as there were only two hundred and seventy people or so in the entire place. Yes, it was a sleepy little hamlet that almost no one had heard of. Archus's life changed drastically when his father died when he was three. His mother, who was so in love with her husband, went mad with grief. She was left to raise her son alone. She had no skills, other than weaving and child raising, the village helped to take care of Archus for a few months, but it became clear that his mother had no interest in moving on. Instead she slept most of the day and drank grain alcohol the entire time she was awake. She began to beat Archus when he was 3 and a half, something which the village people quickly noticed. Whenever he went out for errands other kids would notice bruises on his arms and legs. Of course, the boy didn't understand why his mommy was beating him, Archus assumed it was because something was wrong with him, he thought somehow he was to blame for his father's sudden illness and death. So for another few months this cycle went on. He would bring home food for his mother (with the help of older children, he was only 3 and a half after all) and she would refuse it, drink, beat him, pass out, wake up, eat, drink, beat, repeat.

She nearly killed him once, when he turned 6, she told him, "congratulations on completing another year in hell, sonny, now fetch yer mommy some drink from the cupboard", six year old Archus attempted to tell his mother that perhaps she should stop drinking so much, to which she responded by beating him so badly that it broke his ribs. Once the village elders got word of this, they had enough of Archus's mother. Men from the village took her son in the night and smuggled him in a wagon into a distant monastery so that he might be raised and taken care of with religious values. They thought there was still time for him to grow up as a pious and good young man. As for his mother, well, Archus never knew what happened to her. He didn't speak for an entire year at (religious institution), he felt betrayed by his kin, abandoned by his mother. He still loved her, she did give birth to him after all. His early years at the monastery were filled with confusion, anger, angst, and sorrow. He felt empty, like he didn't belong. The nuns and priests at the monastery were.. well.. they weren't nice to him, they were strict and demanded discipline at all times, but they also took care of him. They fed him three times a day, taught him how to clean clothes and sew, and cook, and read, and all sorts of things he never knew how to do before.

By his tenth birthday, Archus was beginning to properly receive the messages that his religious tutors were telling him. His first foot was started on the journey of religious salvation that would fill the emptiness in his heart and replace the misguided sadness and hate with nothing but love and passion for life. He took the religious doctrine to be an absolute truth, the only truth in the universe was the teaching of the church. He idolized the warrior priests and paladins of legend, they were so pious and devoted to spreading their message to everyone across the northern kingdoms, they fought for the Given Truth, not the truth of men. At age fifteen he was an acolyte of the church, he cleaned the grounds and cooked meals, he lived a simple and pious life, much like his father did. [insert church destruction and thorough beating plot device]

At age twenty four he was a wandering do-gooder. He lived mostly off of donation and the coin villagers could scrape together to pay him for doing good deeds (which he refused most of the time). He found joy in aiding others, but felt wholly without purpose.

By age twenty six he was chosen by the Holyland Alliance to be a certified Paladin, everywhere defending the innocent and spreading the goodness of the church through action.

First off, I love this history. One reason in particular is because it is very similar to the OC I had been using for this RP before moving here. The whole parents neglect child, child raised in religious surroundings etc. Now because of my knowledge of the storyline and history a lot of things interfere with what you have written if this character would be a Wayist. The use of holy medallions, or holy texts, long swords, idols, even the names of artes would have to be modified. From what I understand, the religion you are going for is something like a fantasy version of Catholicism. I am willing to create an entirely new religion. It would be easier than modifying such a nicely thought out history.  For now however, it is not imperative for inserting your character into the Story. Also just to help you out in completing this, most CS's history include a reason why they joined the Mercenary Guild the Norhad Swords.
For now

Occupation: Paladin/Holy Knight

Paladins do exist in Adanaque and Selkirk as a result of a 500 year old war. fyi

Life Skills: Basic Survival skills, holy rites for burial, fishing, woodworking, crafting holy symbols and trinkets.

Elemental Affinity: Light, Steel, Earth

Types of Artes: DEF, SPT, SEAL

Base Stats: HP 4 / SE 15 / CCA: 3 // DEF: 1, SPT: 1. SEAL: 1

Just so you know, the Class of Holy Guardian is a purely OoC trait.

Special Ability: Inspire; Archus's zeal and optimism are an inspiration to those around him, raising ally morale through difficult personal or group situations.

Runes Artes:

Arte Level 1

Name of Arte: Saint's Bulwark

Type: DEF

Description: Archus targets 1 ally (or himself) to defend with a physical manifestation of his righteous will, which materializes as a shield of translucent light in front of the target. (maybe adding a defensive dice roll or adding a fixed amount to one dice roll?)

Element: Light (or steel?)

Price: 5 Tokens

Cost: 6 SE

Arte's normally do not require the use of dice.

Arte level 2

Name of Arte: Bishop's Rebuttal

Type: SPT

Description: Archus targets one ally and emboldens them with the power to enact holy vengeance. His booming cry of encouragement echoes across the battlefield, edging the combatant on to glory and success. (somehow buffs attack and/or targeting for casters?)

Element: Light

Price: 10 tokens

Cost: 12 SE

This arte could increase the amount of ATK dice available to the target by +2

Arte Level 3

Name of Arte: Earth Tomb

Type: DEF

Description: Archus slams the ground with his shield and a fissure erupts, streaking towards a target and summoning an encasing wall of rock around them. It does no damage to the target, but surrounds them in destructible earth.

Element: Earth

Price: 15 Tokens

Cost: 18 SE

I would class this under SEAL type. It seals the movement and isolates the target from incoming attacks and forces the target to use an arte to break free.

Arte Level 4

Name of Arte: Steel Silence

Type: SEAL

Element: Steel

Description: Archus's weapon becomes empowered with the ability to suppress magical abilities. It gains two energy blast charges that can be fired to hit medium to long range targets, effectively silencing them for a short to moderate period of time. As long as his weapon has a charge, any melee attack he lands also silences his target.

Price: 20 Tokens yall

Cost 24 SE

Range has a support tech in the combat section. You can increase the range by purchasing there. because this is a level 4 Seal it should have a single use in combat against 1 target. Meaning you can use it on multiple targets but not compound it on the same target. It would SEAL up to a lvl 4 arte. But Melee attacks would not be silenced.

Arte Level 5

Name of Arte: Atonement

Type: DEF

Element: Light

Description: Archus becomes an embodiment of holy energy. He is shrouded in holy light, he moves more quickly, and he becomes immensely more threatening to nearby enemies. His words demand the attention of foes and allies alike as they sound across the battlefield like the loudest church bells ever rung. (some sort of defensive buff, some sort of speed buff, some form of mass taunt)

Price: 25 i think

Cost 30 I think

The problem with this is that it fits the Enhancement type of arte more than DEF. DEF is purely protection against attacks. The description above suggests a sort of enhancing of himself, more defense, more speed and essentially gaining more aggro. Unfortunately EHM is unavailable for Original Combat Class's

Okay, time to invent the Elegos version of Catholicism.

We can resolve the problem of your missing Arte Type if you wish to purchase EHM from the RP shop. It would mean that you would start off with less TP then is normally awarded for new players.

I have an idea already made from an existing lore.

More on this later, in the meantime any idea how you want to enter the story?

I was thinking meeting with the players in the Extra IC somehow, since they are in a village,

I like the idea of the other characters coming across Archus in a situation where he is defending someone, but is laughably outnumbered or out armed, but they see him willing to fight it out anyway, thought it's quite obvious he is going to get his ass kicked.

Currently the group is already in a fight. I would think he is the type to defend people when in trouble. lol but who to defend would be the dilemma. Not to impose this, but if you can read the Extra IC from where the Engagement Scenario post is you will understand how goes the battle.

I am updating the section in Organizations and will link that new religion here. Take what you want if you want to add some things let me know!

Hmm, I see what you mean, it would be weird to have two fights in a row like that. Maybe my character tries to get involved with this fight? By the time he arrives he might not be sure what's going on though and it isn't like he'd just start swinging at whoever. It would've been alright if he saw the drunken bastards fighting the woman by herself, but if her allies are there it will look more like a street brawl and he wouldn't know who the aggressor was. I guess he might try just yelling at everyone but idk

That sounds like a plan.

In the meantime however, you have 25 Token points to purchase what you need to do basic combat for now.

That is why your artes have a Price tagged on them. Players have to start from the ground up.

Even those who have bought their artes cannot just use them any which way they desire.

But maybe you already sensed that haha.

You shall have more Tokens on the way, as every end of the month TP is awarded to active players.

So what if this religion worshiped them as ideas, for example, each keeper type represents a specific idea, i.e. honor, integrity, loyalty, piety, since it has been so long since they were around, they became idealogical values more than actual figures of worship themselves. I hope that makes sense.

Sure it makes sense. Like in RL religion is based on what humans have made out their perceptions of specific deities. Or more similarly perceptions of extraordinary individuals whose history and actions have had an almost fantasy like or supernatural additions.

In this case, the Keeper Races are no secret, and no one is denying their existence anywhere. The Keepers Society is a based on humans perceiving these ones to be Divine in nature, to be worshiped and revered, a basis that has been going on for, well let's say centuries. They create the doctrine and philosophies and continually add on to it as time goes by.

But I digress, let me know when you are done with your CS so I can approve it.

Discovery of a character through interaction is more our pleasure than reading through backstory, epic though it may be. I will have a quick look after I finish up a few things.

Arte Level 4

Name of Arte: Steel Silence

Element: Steel

The Secondary part, silencing the target through melee attacks is a bit OP. He can simply keep his weapon 'charged' and use successful HITS with ATK dice. You need to write out the description so that a player can look up your CS and know what he is supposed to write for his character when they are HIT with a specific arte. In this case, considering my previous suggestion, Steel Silence would silence a target. We need to describe how the 'silencing' takes place. Does it seal an Arte? Or the Spirit Energy? How long does it stay sealed for? A suggestion would be as follows :

Archus' weapon becomes empowered with the ability to suppress magical abilities. Once it discharges from his blade and hits a target, the targets lvl 4 arte is sealed for the duration of the battle or until healed.

Here we have given a definitive target, effect, length of effect etc.

Arte Level 5

Name of Arte: Atonement

Type: ENH

Element: Light

Description: Archus becomes an embodiment of holy energy. He is shrouded in holy light, he moves more quickly, and he becomes immensely more threatening to nearby enemies. One year later, he heard of the Norhad Swords, who were a mercenary group founded on principle by an ex Wayist. He knew the wayists to be generally good and benevolent with their services, so he decided to investigate the Swords and perhaps give them a chance. He served in the Norhad Swords for four years, where he learned much improved combat skills and was given the opportunity to show his prowess as a guardian, a shield for his allies against foes. He was nothing special compared to some of the other mercenaries, but his unique fighting style earned him the nickname "Tower" and he was somewhat well known inside the organization. He left two years before current times for principle reasons, they weren't always making decisions he agreed with and eventually his piety forced him to leave the Swords and continue on his personal quest. There were no hard feelings on the departure though, and he still has many friends in the guild today.

I would rather him be a newer addition, maybe he has done some work for us before in times where he needed some food money and has helped on an off, Having him be a part of the Guild since nearly its inception would complicate things story wise, I have already selected a few people for leadership roles, and those that started off with the swords were still sort of green anyway. Also the fact that Antarah is a wayist, or Ex is not something known to most people. In fact, anything about Wayism is practically forgotten in the Northern Kingdoms because " future plot reasons "

Character is conditionally approved. You just need to finalize and re-tune those 2 artes. But as for posting in IC you are clear to go.

It would be a good time to rejoin the Norhad Swords during the Extra IC mission. Since he would be known somewhat, Donar and Turian would recognize him and welcome his help.

I changed the arte. I really can't think of a reason that Archus would ever join or associate with a mercenary guild. The reason I wrote what I had is because inevitably he would come to the conclusion that mercenaries are warriors for hire, even though certain ones fight on principle, they still sell violence, which is not something he would approve of. So in making him a member when he was younger and then leaving that becomes apparent, he wouldn't join up with one at this point in his life unless it was a holy order and not a mercenary company.

He is supposed to be a zealot of some sort yes? Perhaps he has some ideas of grandeur about joining up mercenary groups in order to dissuade them. Even if he does not join, like I said before, he could be helping the guild out regarding certain missions either he requested or that is related to him in some way.
