Animalia Magicka

Animalia magicka, more commonly known as a mage’s familiar, are animals with a predisposition towards magic. When picking a familiar, it is important to remember the three T’s of animal companionship: Temperament, toughness, and talent. At least two should match their Loyal’s, which is what we call the humans who have bonded with a familiar. It is said that no mage can accomplish true greatness without a devoted familiar at their side.
Sometimes a familiar is injured or lost, or otherwise find themselves in a dedicated rescue for help. It is here that we begin, with rumors of abolishing animal magic on the wind and a small revolt from mages without familiars challenging the notion of a bond with animals to increase their magical talent on the horizon. But that isn’t here, isn’t now, so need not worry about that dear familiars, just rest and recover while you are here. Nothing bad will happen to you while within the borders of the Familiar rescue…

Males have brightly colored plumage and feathers, whereas females exhibit earth tones to camouflage themselves. Often used as messenger birds.

The wyvern has two legs, two wings, and a spiny tail surmounted by a (typically) poisonous stinger. Its durable hide of armored scales gives the wyverns plenty of protection to fight off other predators and even larger dragons when fighting in a pack. They do not possess a breath weapon, but rather their stinger is the source of their elemental discharge. This, combined with their powerful body and ferocious maw of razor-sharp teeth make them formidable foes. They live in packs of up to 12 individuals, ranging over a territory many hundreds of miles in area.
In the fall, male wyvern wing patterns become vibrant to attract a mate and will fight other suitors, sometimes resulting in death. They usually hibernate through winter.

The drake is a common flightless dragon that has been greatly domesticated. They all have four legs and short compact bodies allowing for swift running. They are highly adaptable to their environments, with many subspecies specially designed for almost any function. They have powerful jaws and sharp teeth to effectively capture and kill their prey. They typically have wedge-shaped heads allowing for binocular vision when hunting. They are pack-hunting animals. They have been bred throughout the world, resulting in hundreds of varieties such as small toy drakes to massive siege drakes. They are commonly used as guard animals, and many have had armor and harnesses custom-made for their specific occupation.

Often mistaken for insects, Fae dragons have evolved forearms that make a second set of wings, and the legs and feet have developed long digits for grappling prey and holding onto small limbs. They fly like insects or hummingbirds, capable of hovering in midair, and move in any direction while holding any position. Fae come in many colors and shapes. Some breeds migrate while others hibernate through winter. Like magpies, they like to steal small shiny objects to line their nests. Fae also have a prehensile tail to give it better balance. They are often kept as nurturers for gardens and farms, as many possess the ability to manipulate plants.

Grand dragons are the most feared and famous dragons in the history of the world. They can be found nearly everywhere and can breathe fire or manipulate other elements with their breath weapons. Though they were once abundant, now they are quite rare. The bright colors of these species are more prominent in males than females. Grand dragons have quadrupedal bodies, long tails, serpentine necks, scaled armor, and massive bat-like wings. Most are highly intelligent.
Grand dragons are highly territorial and anti-social, even to other dragons.

Loong are long, serpentine, four-legged dragons with prehensile tails. Loong are unique in that they are in the order of flightless dragons like drakes but are capable of limited flight. They don't possess dedicated appendages for flight like other dragons, instead, Loong use a unique construction of frills along its body to glide or "swim" through the air. They also have whiskers much like a catfish's, used to sense close-range movement. Its long serpentine body is able to constrict around enemies like a snake, and its four legs have sharp talons for fighting, in addition to a jaw of sharp teeth. Some can even spit caustic expectorant to frighten enemies. They tend to be reclusive and shy, living solitary lives.
Loong come in a variety of colors, sizes, and shapes. They tend to migrate for winter when their habitats begin to get cold.

Crocodilia is an order of mostly large, predatory, semiaquatic reptiles. Large, solidly built, lizard-like reptiles, crocodilians have long flattened snouts, laterally compressed tails, and eyes, ears, and nostrils at the top of the head. They swim well and can move on land in a "high walk" and a "low walk", while smaller species are even capable of galloping. Their skin is thick and covered in non-overlapping scales. They have conical, peg-like teeth and a powerful bite. They have a four-chambered heart and, somewhat like birds, a unidirectional looping system of airflow within the lungs, but like other living reptiles they are ectotherms.

Jack

Strength: 3
Defense: 3
Magic Pool: 3

Jack of all trades, yet Master of none, Jacks have completely rounded stats, making them a good class for those who wish to dabble in multiple fighting styles. The freeform nature of Jacks makes them unpredictable. But their lack of specialization also means they are one of the weakest classes to start with.
There is no preferred combat style for Jacks.

Fire

Grants the user control over fire and heat, basically fire-bending.
Lightning

The user has control over electricity.
Verdure

The user is in touch with nature, they can grow and manipulate plants as they please.
Air

Users are able to control the current of air around them to create powerful winds
Arcane

The user is able to amplify the effects of other elements but lacks control over any specific element themselves. Capable of telekinesis.
Light

Users are able to manipulate the light spectrum or concentrate energy into a visible/tangible form (like. Light orbs/beams/ect)
Water

Grants the user control over water, ice, and steam, literally just water-bending.
Metal

The ability to manipulate precious metals such as iron or copper.
Toxin

Users are able to create toxic or corrosive materials. Powers also may or may not be tied to decay/rotting
Earth

The user is able to manipulate rocks, dirt, and mud, basically earth-bending.
Void

The user is able to dampen the effects of other elements, though they lack control over any specific element themselves. Capable of telepathy when making eye contact with the target.
Dark

Users are able to manipulate shadows or concentrate dark energy into a visible/tangible form. They are also able to travel through shadows

Biography: Durvahriin came to the rescue sickly and injured. No one could get an explanation from him, not a cohesive one anyways. He claims to have had a loyal, but not anymore. It is assumed he and his loyal stood up to the rising threat of the wizard that wants to do away with animal magic, and lost their life, while Durvahriin somehow survived. This is all just rumor and inferences though.
As for personality, he seems to be bitter and grumpy. It's assumed because he survived while his loyal didn't. He has a lot of pride, and a short temper.
Other: he's about 2 feet long, but on account of how long he is, it's mostly tail and neck. Really his size is more comparable to a small cat.

WIP Biography: Such discomfort around other familiars creates a great, gaping wound of loneliness. It’s not like she does not attempt to reconcile with others though her intimidating demeanor and unhinged temper is difficult to wear.

Her existence is perceived as incomplete, the Honey Badger has not been accepted completely by a mage. This familiar, who does not tolerate civilisation, is rather disagreeable toward humanity.

Onyx came from a litter of 5 other kittens and were all faced with the unfortunate passing of their mother giving birth to them all. In fact, they would have all died if a young witch hadn't found them first, taking in Onyx and her 4 siblings. From there, they were all raised happily, and eventually, one by one, the lovely witch who helped them soon gave away each of her siblings except Onyx, keeping Onyx as her own familiar. The two shared a similar temperament, both quiet but deadly. Small in size and stature but had powerful abilities and beliefs. For many years, the two shared wonderful adventures but just as Onyx's life started, she was faced with another tragedy.
During one of their adventures, Onyx and her witch came across a rather powerful enemy, and even with both giving everything they had, both ended up being badly injured, barely able to stand and fight. Onyx was willing to fight and die for the witch who saved her yet, instead of saving the witch, once again, the witch saved her. Barely standing on her own paws, the Witch, with the last bit of energy, teleported her beloved familiar away with her last words.
"You were the light of my life little Onyx. May we meet again in another life. Live my little Onyx, live!"
Without time to protest, Onyx was teleported away and moments later passed out from their injuries and exhaustion, not without crying out for her beloved witch. When. she woke up, Onyx found herself at the rescue,

Biography: Thu was born to parents who actively taught him to stay away from Witches of all kinds. No matter how nice they seemed, no matter what they offered, Witches could not be trusted. This fear and distrust he learned as a child carried over into his perception of other Familiars, as Thu worries that they might be more loyal to their Witch than to their own kind.

Ever since Thu was a youngster, he showed an inherent talent for healing. Often he’d heal people by accident, simply by lingering at their side for long enough. It’s very draining for him, and so he often took to isolating himself in response. Even though Thu is quite an adept healer, he cannot heal himself, and is actually quite slow to recover from injuries due to his energy almost always being drained in some way. He has the ability to use telepathy, but he’s not very good at it. Only really able to convey very simple sentences and images and little more than that.

Thu has no interest in bonding with a Human, he worries that he’ll be used as a living battery due to his deep magic pools. Instead, Thu happily lived the life of a hermit, fully embracing his Tiger body and completely ignoring his magical abilities. That was until one day when he was captured by a group of poachers who believed him to be a wild animal or possibly an escaped zoo attraction. Thu spent a short time in a circus where his fear and distrust of Humans was solidified, until he was taken in by the Familiar Rescue.

Biography:
The last thing doe remembers was waking up in a dark alley way, with no memories of his past as a familiar or family. Convinced he is just a normal house cat, Doe spent most of his memory on learning to survive on the streets. He longed to reconnect with his forgotten family, which led to him going on a long search for hints related to his past A search the often got him into trouble. During his last search he ran into a group of familiar hunters, who 'mistook' him for a familiar and tried to capture him, he escaped but his injuries led him to seek shelter in the Familiar Rescue.

Ricotta is a 10 inches fae dragon with fluffy yellow furs covering her entire body similar to that of a moth. She has four wings with black patterns across it that resembles eyes, if you squint hard enough. Whenever she moves she would left a small trace of white powder that is a mix of the pieces of her furs, pollen and spores.

Biography:
Ricotta, or simply called Rico, is one of the familiar who was put into the rescue shelter after her loyal dies. She's a chipper and mischievous critter who loves to use her illusion to express herself. Expect color change, random glitters or just straight up holographic projection when interacting with her. She tends to avoid conflict and would hide at the first sight of trouble. Her nest is literally just a large pumpkin which has its meat carved out, the pumpkin seems to be in constantly fresh condition from being exposed to her magic.

Biography: Aven was hatched and spent most of his hatchling days with his parent in the forest and lower altitudes of the mountain his parent otherwise inhabited. One day the little hatchling got separated from them and after wandering the forest, was found by poachers and sold off. The young dragon bounced from place to place, humans interested in him due to his silky hair-like fur and promise of a quiet, independent dragon but were quickly repelled by the reality that.. Aven craved friendship and bonds. Unlike properly raised of his kind, the empty space left during his early development made the Loong dragon uncharacteristically friendly towards other familiars.

Unfortunately the humans weren't quite pleased having to care for a quickly growing young dragon that just wouldn't sell, so they tried to get rid of him and he found himself wandering, hungry and injured from being chased off, until he found himself at the rescue. Being saved rekindled a small hope within the dragon that perhaps making friends would be possible..

Other:
  • Currently 28 ft long, capping out at 30 ft long once full grown.
  • Fur around Aven's neck and chest is akin to fine silky hair and hypo-allergenic. In theory it could be harvested and used for clothing as it's very warm and cozy.
  • Front paws act like hands, can use them to hold things.
