The Teachers

Professor Kate Cole-Gellert

House: Ravenclaw
Class: Transfiguration
Wand: Apple wood, Phoenix feather, 13", and rigid.
Animagus/Patronus: German Shepard
Family: Leo Gellert | Husband
Personality: Professor Gellert is serious, but kind professor. She gets work done and hates explaining questions during class time. But she is more than willing to work with a student after class until they get the right answer. She's likely to let you off the hook if she catches you in the hallway but is never kind when she runs into students fighting.
History: Professor Kate Gellert was the top of her class when she was at Hogwarts, Transfiguration was always her favorite. Professor McGonagall was her favorite professor, and she only agreed to teach as the school when McGonagall asked her to. Before that she was working in the ministry to try and round up the last of the Death Eaters.

Professor Leo Gellert

Personality: Professor Gellert is very stern and strict. He runs a tight classroom and hates things that vary from his plan. He is quick to hand out detentions and is known for being slightly unreasonable when it comes to punishment. He is quick to anger, but it's known throughout the school that he is much calmer and more reasonable when he is with his wife.
History: Professor Leo Gellert was a quidditch star when he was at Hogwarts, he was never much of a student. But, after the Battle of Hogwarts, Professor Flitwick retired leaving a position open. Leo took the Charms position because he wanted to give back more to the wizarding community.

Professor Julianna Waters

House: Gryffindor
Class: Defense Against the Dark Arts
Wand: Holly wood, Unicorn Hair, 12", and reasonable flexibility.
Patronus: Tiger
Personality: Professor Waters is a total badass. She doesn't put up with crap in her classroom, she is serious about teaching her students the things they need to learn and doesn't like things getting in the way of that. She is nice when spoken to by students in a respectful manner, but tends to play favorites towards Gryffindor even if she doesn't mean to.
History: Professor Waters was an Auror before the Battle of Hogwarts, but took the position after the battle. She is the head of Gryffindor house and is considered an adviser by many of the house.

Professor Elliot Hiddleston

House: Hufflepuff
Class: Potions
Wand: Poplar wood, Unicorn Hair, 13.5", and rather swishy.
Patronus: Kimono Dragon
Personality: Professor Hiddleston is kind and patient. He likes to take his time when addressing issues that may bring up questions later in the lesson. He teaches several study groups after class for the students who have issues with his class.
History: Professor Hiddleston hated Potions when he was in school. He hated how Snape made him feel, so he promised that one day he would become a teacher and help the students truly understand the class that he didn't. He's a big believer that students shouldn't be penalized for a teacher's poor performance.

Wand: Laurel, Unicorn hair, 13.75", and supple flexibility.
Patronus: Golden Retriever
Personality: Nellie is reserved sometimes, she doesn't necessarily seek people out to talk with, she is fine with sitting alone or spending time by herself. However, when she does have a friend or friends she holds onto them like her life depends on it. She hates losing friends and hates it even more when people hurt her friends. While she is a good friend, she is still a Slytherin and this is shown in her ability to defend her friends and herself when it comes to it.
Likes: Tea, quidditch, vintage movies, music, chapstick, and most of all magic.
Dislikes: Arithmancy, pumpkin juice,
Good Traits: Respectful, loyal, clever, creative, funny, and resilient.
Bad Traits: Conniving, impulsive, stubborn, hot-headed, and can hold a grudge like nobody's business (couldn't think of an adjective for that one.)

Backstory: Nellie's mom was a pureblood and her father was a muggleborn. She grew up with influences of both of the cultures, but was always more interested in magic.

Nellie was born in London, where her father worked as a Ministry official and her mother as a Healer at St. Mungos. She went to primary school with muggle children, because her father insisted that she be brought up how he was. They quickly found out that, primary school was not a good idea for her as her magic tended to show at the worst moments. One incident called for a complete memory wipe of her third grade class.

While she never had any siblings, Nellie did frequently play with her cousin Terra. However, when they were eleven, Nellie saw Terra die when the girls were playing in the garden and Terra ran into the road. Seeing this Terra hit by a car, definitely influenced Nellie to be more mature than most children. It also made her hold onto her friends much tighter than she did before.

Her older brother and parents were both Gryffindors, so this comes as a bit of a disappointment. The Sorting Hate debates between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, because she has many Gryffindor traits, but decides (against her wishes) to place her in Ravenclaw.​

Wand: 14 inch apple with thunderbird tail feather core, slightly flexible

• Apple: They are powerful and best suited to an owner of high aims and ideals, as this wood mixes poorly with Dark magic.
• Thunderbird tail feather: ...powerful but difficult to master, and were good for transfiguration work (appropriate, as Sophia has a particular interest in transfiguration)
• Rigidity: Wand flexibility or rigidity denotes the degree of adaptability and willingness to change possessed by the wand-and-owner pair... (Soph's stubbornness makes her a bit narrow-minded)
• Length: Longer wands might suit taller wizards, but they tend to be drawn to bigger personalities...

Note: Soph's wand is laughably large compared to her small stature, but is said to be due to her equally large personality. When she was young, people often made fun of her because it looks as though she's just playing dress-up/is a wannabe. Now, she's grown into it a bit more.

Sophia is short for her age in part due to being born prematurely, but her biological mother was similarly built. She has wavy dirty blond hair that’s almost always in a messy ponytail. She does hair straightening charms sometimes, because she sometimes feels like straight hair is preferable. Her parents have forbidden her from changing her hair color. Her eyes are brown and her pale skin makes her susceptible to sunburn in the summer.

• Writing. She enjoys creative writing and writing essays, which is her saving grace when it comes to suffering through essays based on heavy reading.
• Learning and self-teaching. She's used to learning everything on her own, which makes her advanced but far from perfect. This causes her to give professors some attitude.
• Cats. She really likes cats.
• Also dogs.

Dislikes

• Herbology. She hates it ever since a run in with a garden gnome. And she thinks it's dumb to sit around learning about plants rather than "actually useful stuff".
• Reading. She only reads so she can learn, but anything else is stupid and pointless in her opinion.
• Mainly because history of magic requires a lot of reading, she does not like that class.

Spoiler: Description

Soph is the definition of a controversial person with a strong personality; people tend to either love or hate her. This is mainly because she speaks her mind and stands up for everyone and everything she believes in, which includes calling others out. Nobody can really argue with her, because she's always right, but she can certainly make enemies pretty quickly by non-maliciously pointing out their flaws or getting involved when she shouldn't.

She's more of an "acts of service" gal who has cute girl friendships. But she will do anything and everything for people she loves and believes in. Which leads into her loyalty; partly because of her relationship with older brother Ewan, she’s become a fiercely loyal person and will not hesitate to get in trouble if it means justice will be served or she will avenge a friend. Sophia is also exuberant and proud of her friends' accomplishments, and the type to throw herself at someone and give them a lung-crushing hug when they're not expecting it.

She's somewhat haphazard, not to mention a major tomboy. When she was younger, she absolutely ended up at St. Mungo’s every other week. Everything about her is disorganized on the outside (think parchment strewn all over the room, mismatched socks, and candy wrappers under the pillow) but she actually has it all together and neatly organized inside her head, which is a relief.

Sophia was adopted as a newborn. It was a closed adoption and her biological mother was only sixteen and had been unsuccessful at Hogwarts. Because of this, there was much concern around Sophia's well being, personality, and future academic performance. Once Sophia was born, however, all doubts were quelled: from day one she's proven to be an energetic, bright young witch. She was born a month premature, though, but was determined from the start and released in full health. Much to her parents’ relief, she also showed a normal progression of magical skills (in fact, was advanced), with no indication of delays. Her parents had not planned to have another child, but wanted to help out when her mother’s friend mentioned that there was a young teen looking for parents for her child, especially since Soph's mom experienced a teen pregnancy herself, at age 16, but the father stayed and they're still going strong after two decades together.

Sophia has a much older brother (who is a biological child of their parents) named Ewan. He's a full 20 years older than her and works with dragons. The two siblings are incredibly close — he's practically like her second father — and being away from him has always been the hardest for Sophia, as he lives quite close to home and generally spends the time he isn't traveling for work, taking care of Soph. She looks up to Ewan, even when they fight.

Sophia has a great relationship with her parents too. Her father is a banker and her mother is a secretary at the Ministry. They (and Ewan) are all purebloods and Gryffindors, though Sophia's birth mother was Muggle-born and Hufflepuff. Overall, Soph had a solid and lucky childhood!

Most Valued Possession: she has a favorite quill, which Ewan gave her for her 7th birthday.

Appearance: Casimir is short, around 5'6", with a heart-shaped face and large hazel eyes. He is thin but not excessively, and his skin is a warm light brown. He has very dark, thick hair and full brows, a prominent nose, and wide, full lips. His hair is shoulder length and wavy-curly, and he tends to tie it back to keep it out of his work.

Personality

Personality: Casimir is proud and precise. He is quick to develop a temper but slow to act on it; he has a poisonous vindictive streak and can hold grudges for years at a time. However, he will never intentionally begin a conflict with someone unless they have done something he believes has earned retribution; he would rather mind his own business and work towards his own goals. With adults and authority figures, he is unfailingly polite but extremely distant. He values intelligence and has a strong desire to prove himself, which makes him come across as a bit of a know-it-all. Despite being outwardly prickly and standoffish, he has a good sense of humor. He mostly lets his guard down among equals, but his years in Slytherin have taught him to be wary of everyone.
Likes: Experimentation, debate and dueling, cats, snow, the smell of old books,
Dislikes: Fidgeting, most large animals or creatures, sweets, using a quill, Quidditch, over the top flamboyance

Backstory and Misc.

Backstory: Casimir was born to a Muggle family, the only child of middle-class parents in a small town in Oxfordshire. His mother was a Moroccan immigrant and his father was English, and taught college level math. Casimir grew up speaking French at home because it was the language that both of his parents spoke, and occasionally Arabic with his mother and English with his father. His mother stayed home with him for the most part, and attempted to shelter him when Casimir began displaying accidental magic. It was only with his father's insistence and assurance that nothing would happen that Casimir was even able to attend primary school with other children rather than being taught from home.
Because of his heritage in a relatively intolerant small town, and his propensity for showing off his knowledge, he was frequently a target. Casimir had frequent magical outbursts in school, though they wouldn't be labeled as such. Once he learned that he could change things around him if he got angry enough, he began targeting his bullies in small ways- causing their things to break, ruining lunches, occasionally closing drawers and doors on their hands and feet. Getting his acceptance letter was a relief to him and his whole family, who could sense that there was an unusual amount of tension between him and his schoolmates and were glad to find that his abilities could be channeled productively.
At Hogwarts, he initially showed signs of being a troublemaker, but the rest of his House quickly cottoned on and put a stop to it- nobody wanted to get in trouble for one person's bad behavior, and if he wasn't going to be subtle about it, he was as good as caught. Still, despite some of the changes towards tolerance in the House following Voldemort's death, Casimir is one of very few Muggle-borns in Slytherin, and is respected for his tenacity as much as he is treated as an outsider.
Most Valued Possession: A small clay hamsa talisman, which he keeps over his bed.
