While there are many great things about the month of May, one of the most important to be aware of is it being ALS Awareness Month, a standing ordeal in reference to the disease known as Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, but more commonly known as simply ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease, known as such due to its fatal affect on famous baseball player Lou Gehrig, becoming one of the first times that awareness was raised about said disease, although reports date back to ALS findings originating even to the 1800s. For all those wondering, ALS is a disease that involves the degradation and death of neurons within the body that is characterized by stiff muscles, muscle twitching, and worsening status due to muscle wasting. These symptoms increase further and further until difficulty occurs with speaking, swallowing, and, at its worst, breathing. There is currently no cure for the disease, and little can be done to save those wracked by its affects except extending their life expectancy.

However, many people are fighting for a cure, and in this hope for such a thing, a trend began in 2014. This activity, called the "ALS Ice Bucket Challenge", rose to popularity and raised the awareness of ALS and its terrible effects on families everywhere. Starting small among the social groups of towns and the like, it grew to where it had celebrities partaking, encouraging research around the world. In this challenge, the donator takes a bucket of ice cold water and after proper preperation, squenched eyes and grit teeth come to mind, are doused with the cold water. Afterwords, they would nominate 3 others and donate 10$ to the cause, or the equivalent in their respective currencies. Nominating is not required, but all willing participants are encouraged to spread the word around and help raise awareness throughout.
