"Anthony we've been walking forever how many times do I have to tell you there's nothing here to follow you're dragging me on a wild goose chase and I for one am certain we are going in the WRONG direction." Ahmya said with her hands on her hips as she followed him through a dark forest. She sighed and kicked a small rock. "I'm going back and you can't stop me Ant." That was her nickname for him. She turned sharply and began walking away from him.

Anthony could only sigh as he saw Ahmya leaving "Really? you're so stubborn Ahmya I mean you..... you just walked over a fresh set of tracks walking over there. And they are some big tracks come on it could be close sis. Have I ever did you wrong?" Anthony said kneeling beside the tracks looking at them with a spark in his eyes. "Let's hurry!" he said following it

The light was piercing through the curtains. Slowly reaching for the clock, Evy began to...

Wait. There was no alarm. There should be a criminal law class on wednesday, which meant that the recents events were not a fucked up dream. Everything repeated itself in her head: the police at her house, the shoutings of her parents, Amy hanging at the end of a rope, the bloody note...

It was over. Even if she won her case at court, her criminal record would break her life. A lawyer career? Gone to smoke. Her reputation? Stained forever. Amy? Dead because she was too weak to prevent it.

Salty water dropped on the dirt. No...it couldn’t end this way. She had to stop being a crybaby and stand up. Not only for her pathetic self, but for those that she couldn’t protect Amy from. They were going to pay, one by one.

Yesterday, she flew, but where? The surrounding trees seemed to reach the sky, concealing it from mortal eyes. A thousand flowers covered the ground, gorgeous enough to charm anyone. A foul smell was filling the air, but no one would dare to resist the toxic kiss of these growing ladies. Evy almost believed she was watched, but there were no walking sounds nor human warmth. If the police found her, they would have already showed themselves, and trees can't observe someone...right? A mild breeze was blowing, like a friendly whisper that invited her to go further into the woods. She was almost answering this call when a human voice snapped her out of it. Wait...two human voices? It seemed that it was a girl and a boy. Her instinct told her to call them, but another part of her said otherwise. How could she trust them? She was a fugitive. While she was going farther from the sound, she walked on a tiny branch, cutting it in half. The student sighed. Since her choice was not one anymore, it would be wiser to not let them think she was spying on them. She picked up a branch that looked sharp enough (just in case) and shouted.

-Hello? Is anyone there? I'm lost!

"Don't worry, this will all work out in the end" Ezra lied, patting his victim on the back. The villager smiled with relief, then stumbled off with a slightly crooked gait as the growth on his leg slowed him down.

Sighing, Ezra surveyed what had happened with his latest attempt at improving this place.

When Ezra had come through the portal to this place he'd found himself in a village inhabited by strange, animal-headed beings. They were incredibly gullible and he'd easily been able to convince them to take care of his needs. Ezra had noticed changes in himself as well. A blue diamond-shaped gem had appeared on his right palm. He kept it covered with a glove, but otherwise paid it no mind.

Ezra had found out early on that he could change this world by talking. Describe something and it would appear, convince someone of something and they'd believe it, speak it and make it real. He'd managed to make things so much better, but then this corruption had set in. His powers seemed to warp what he changed. Still, Ezra was certain that he could remake this world in his image. It would just take time and practice. It was slow-going but it would be worth it.

Still he'd managed to increase the size of his current holdings and was feeling tired. Ezra walked to his house to relax before going to bed.

His house was one of the first things he'd created after mastering his powers. It seemed immune to the corruption and was incredibly comfortable.

Ahmya rolled her eyes. "Fine stupid brother but i'm right and we were still going the wrong way." She followed him reluctantly. As she looked around she noticed that things just seemed to....appear....but she hadn't the slightest clue where they came from. Flowers, trees, vines.... Suddenly she heard someone call to them. She snapped her head in the direction of the call. ""Hello. Who are you? A spy? Are you lost? Of course you are, SInce we are as well, following my brother always gets us lost. Since we're lost you must be too. Yes?" Ahmya said in a flurry.

While hearing the two speak he could feel the other person's presence not too far in front of the path they were taking something kept telling him to get him and his sister away from them but he felt this could help them if they meet someone actually able to defend themselves. Anthony outstretched his arm in front of Ahmya "My name is Anthony and the rude person standing next to me is my sister Ahmya, we are unarmed." Anthony said slowly moving forward on the path then turning to Ahmya "Follow me" Ant stated

Two siblings found Evy in the woods. The girl quickly assaulted her with questions. Far from putting her at ease, this made her stress even more. She stepped back and, touching her branch for comfort. Only to find out it wasn't a branch at all.

What was once a pointy stick (or was it? The stress - or the forest - messed with her head) was now a spear. A pretty one, actually. The shaft, shaped to imitate a vine circling around a tree, was adorned with carving of uncanny flowers and animals. One of them, a rabbit with a skull-shaped head and a clock on his forehead, looked like he was staring her. At the end, the head of copper completed the picture. Evy almost dropped her new weapon, taken by surprise.

Come to think of it, this wasn't the only new thing. Even with memory issues, she should remember getting a tattoo on her left hand. A black spade. In divination, it symbolized death and loss, but also the strength to overcome it. It was an allegory of justice, of hard-to-make decisions, of the rational and intellectual. Oddly fitting.

The boy spoke. More briefly than his sister and with precision, saying exactly what she wanted to hear. Evy took a moment to respond, lost in her reflexion. There was something wrong and twisted with this place. It had as much influence on her than she had on it, if not even more. It already was binding her, marking her hand as its. It was corrupting her, and soon the twins would be affected. Could she really let this happen? Even if they were a potential threat? If she was burning down this eldritch forest, would she let them be immolated with it?

Slowly, she nodded to Anthony and walked along with the twins. If she was doomed, at least she would try to save something that was worth protecting.

Ahmya huffed "Fine but i wanted to go that way anyways brother." She said haughtily. "Hey forest girl not much of a talker are you?" Ahmya said to the girl whom they had just found. "Ant where are we going we were hunting for something but now i know it's not a thing you're on the hunt for is it." She said to her brother

Anthony cupped his chin looking around on the ground as the stood on the top of a tall hill for footprints until he takes a knee and lifts their new acquaintance "Well, her footprints do not match what we were following nor does she have such tuffs of hair. She might have been able to make the scratch marks with her spear but that wouldn't explain all the damage such as the tree that look as if a bulldozer ran through them" He said until they heard a very loud growl in the distance Anthony immediately stood up and there was a sparkle in his eye "That has to be it!" he said throwing his fist into the air cheering before turning to his sister "well what are you waiting for you two! We have to go after it! This has to be something we have never seen before." He said with a grin across his face. This Grin of pure wonder soon began to disappear as he saw the beast run away as a loud explosion of color goes off in the air. "What the hell is that..." he said looking up at the fireworks that had scared away their next big find and then down towards the lively land With all sorts of tents and colors not a long distance from the forest.

At the remark of Ahmya, Evy smirked. She talks more to those that she trusts, but maybe that it would come. One day. However, she could give her some basic information.

- My name is Evy.

Anthony, on the other hand, seemed on the hunt. Maybe of a fantastic beast, for the pleasure of the unknown. The twins looked like they were going for an adventure. The lonely girl, on the other hand, was more interested in the fact that it was a potential supper. Her cooking skills were on point, but her knowledge of flora (especially the local one) was pretty limited. It would be best to rely on meat.

It was almost adorable, how his eyes were shining. He seemed like he about to hop everywhere. What a shame that such a beautiful smile disappeared so soon, since a blast scared the creature. She barely saw it, yet a prettier show was occurred before her.

-Are these lights...fireworks?

It seemed unlikely in this surreal scenery. Perhaps not as unlikely as the apparition of three butterfly, two yellow and one red, that were surrounded by a ghostly aura. She reached the red with her hand. As soon as she touched it, it withered and warped until all life quit its little corpse. In its place was a letter, butterfly-shaped, on which these words loomed in crimson ink:

This enigmatic letter raised more questions than answers. Confused, Evy lifted an eyebrow and peeked at the twin's reaction.

-Should we go? Or maybe camp for the night before?

He looked back where the creature was and Anthony couldn't help but kick a nearby tree "We were so close!" he yelled until he turned around and saw more fireworks going off he couldn't help but sigh "It's kind of pretty though" he said looking at them and he could help but give a weak smile. It was then he saw the three butterflies of different colors he admired them without touching the one yellow butterfly that flew in front of him. He notices what happens to the one red butterfly when Evy touched it. It began to wither and warp until it became what looked like a letter in the shape of a butterfly

"fascinating!" Anthony exclaimed he pulled the duffle bag from his shoulder and immediately began on a new page illustrating the butterfly into a large journal "This is an okay find, but is still very nice" Anthony said with his smile growing. He reached for the butterfly but instead of only withering the paper seemed to be different he picked it up and began to read it to himself

Well, this is a surprise! It seems that you have something about you that is much different. As if there is another being or creature that inhabits this body. That's rather interesting! I wonder if the others know well doesn't matter to me, but what will the others think. Well, whatever! See you there!
Sincerely The Joker Carnival

Evy snaps Anthony out of his shock when she asks if we should go or make camp for the night. "L-let's go! Think about it Ahmya this is the best chance for us to see some of the greatest things of wonderland! I don't mind bringing Evy along beside we aren't the strongest when it comes down to it and she seems like she is more skilled with weapons than we are!" Anthony said before turning to Evy "Will you come with us!" he asked smiling holding his hand out to her.

Ahmya rolled her eyes at her brothers excitement but smiled anyways "Of course brother, We could never miss such a chance." She then grabbed at the last yellow butterfly. It made a tiny explosion and burned her hand slightly. She drew her hand back with a hiss of pain. She huffed and picked it up carefully. She read it quietly to herself

Trick or Treat? Trick! Stubborn as a bull, fiery but paper thin as a burning butterfly.
Watch your back! Secrets might Attack.
Twins like pins in each others side.
Hmmmmmm Interesting set~
~Don't lose your way stubborn one~
~Sincerely, The Joker's Carnival~

She smiled and tucked it in her brothers pockets. "Don't go all crazy for the new girl just yet Ant." She said with a wink as she began to walk towards the carnival seemingly made for them.

Ezra yawned as he walked out the door of his house. The time here was weird, he didn't know if they actually had 24 hour days. His control was spreading, but it was going far too slowly for his liking. He needed something to do while he waited.

Hearing something on the air, Ezra looked up to see three butterflies flying towards him. A blue one and two red ones. As he watched they seemed like they were about to fly off. Ezra quickly snapped his fingers and then pointed out the butterflies to the villagers who ran up to him. "Capture those butterflies. Alive if possible." The villagers shuddered as his corruption seized them, then picked up nets and rushed to comply with his orders.

The villagers had no luck. No matter how hard they tried the butterflies stayed just out of reach as Ezra got more and more frustrated. Finally he lost his tempter.
"Stop!"
The butterflies stopped, black corruption flowing through them, and fell from the air with an audible thud. Ezra stomped over to them and picked up the blue butterfly. It burst into a piece of paper in his hand, unfolding grotesquely.

Ezra's eyes narrowed. He could think of several memories he could afford to give up, and this looked like it would either be entertaining or a useful way of getting more power. Or both. Besides it was worth finding out who knew about him.

Ezra reached for one of the red butterflies. Again it unfolded into paper.

Your words corrupt and twist. Your evil words turn others to your whims. I wonder how well you know yourself. Would you recognize the man who looks back at you in a mirror? Even then, would you look away? What will the others think of you when they see?
Sincerely The Joker Carnival

Ezra tears the paper to shreds, then tosses it in a nearby fire. Now he really needed to go and teach whoever wrote this a lesson. He picks up the last butterfly message and reads it.

It seems that your fate set in stone by your decisions, now that you have corrupted your power.
Now you seek to free yourself from your own curse without paying for your crimes.
You're still laughing, days are passing, your victims' cries resume.
The Mirror Maze holds that which you desire.

Sincerely The Joker Carnival

Ezra put a hand to his forehead as the Blue Diamond on his right palm throbbed. He'd rule this land and finally have everything he wanted, no matter what he had to do. If he had to shatter every mirror in that maze he'd do it.
