Aeon [BrightSword and teargas]

BrightSword

Awkward Hero
Aeon

More than a century ago, the world was attacked by Aeon; an immortal monster with various powers. It wrecked havoc on the world for several decades, laying waste to wherever it went. By combining their efforts, humankind was finally able to rid the world of this monstrosity. Still, Aeon was stubborn and not so easily killed. Upon defeat, Aeon released his curse into the world, dissipating his body into the air as particles. Those who were directly exposed to such particles were gifted with one of Aeon's powers, but at the same time, they were also cursed with a fate worse than death.

Aeon

A huge monster that ravaged the Earth for several decades more than a century ago. Little is known about Aeon, except for the fact that it had several powers and a presumably immortal lifespan.

It's believed that Aeon never truly showed the full extent of all of its powers, as it probably had several hundreds if not thousands of powers and was believed to be constantly adapting and evolving.

Aeon Particles

Referred to simply as "particles". These are particles in the air that invade the human body and cause deterioration. Infections usually happen to children or babies during pregnancy, though there have been cases of adult infection. Full deterioration (when levels reach the danger zone; past 80-ish%) results in a Meltdown; transformation of the human body, and often times, the human mind. The result is usually a mini replica of Aeon based on the power the original human had, called an "Eon". Eons exhale high concentrations of Aeon Particles.

Shelters

7 large dome-like structures scattered throughout the world in which civilization can still live in a particle free environment. Each dome is about the size of two or three cities. The civilizations that exist in these domes are highly advanced, and the technological development in each dome is distinctly different from the others.

Wilderness

Also referred to as the "Wastelands", it's the world outside of the Shelters. They aren't completely barren wasteland, as they're usually covered by the remains of the civilizations that once inhabitted them. The Wilderness consists of ruined cities and barren land due to Aeon's destruction or the fact that humans just did not inhabit it prior. Imagine an adandoned modern day world with some irregular patches of nothing due to Aeon having visited there directly. The irregular patches of nothing are called "Aeon's Tracks", and you can actually follow where Aeon travelled while it was still alive by following these tracks.

Cursed Children of Aeon

Referred to as the "Cursed Children" or simply the "Cursed" or "Children", these are the people who have been infected by Aeon Particles. Those infected usually develop powers from the original Aeon. They are usually exiled from the Shelters in fear of what will happen if they Meltdown. This usually results in children and infants being transported to and then left at places faraway from the Shelters in which they came.

The higher one's level of deterioration is, the stronger their powers. Deterioration levels grow the more a power is used or the more you intake Aeon Particles.

Important "Cursed" Factions

GateKeepers- Guardians of the Shelters. Often referred to simply as "Keepers" or mockingly as "Watchdogs" or just "dogs". They generally handle all Shelter related business that happens outside of the shelter, and some of them are even exceptions to the exiling law. They are usually willingly executed (by other Keepers outside of the Shelters) when their deterioration nears the danger-zone.

Beowulf- Often referred to as "Wolves". Not as grand or heroic as their name might suggest, this faction is actually more like a group of lawless bandits. Almost everyone in this faction is in for personal gain. The faction is pretty large and is generally known to be home to many misfits and brutes. There are even some uninfected exiles of infamous reputation who ended up in their ranks. Most exiles usually end up in Beowulf for at least some time (as a member or a captive).

Valkyrie- The original female only faction. It was created so that exiled women could band together and protect one another. Most of the members usually have a history of being betrayed or abused by other males in the Wilderness, so they generally harbour animosity towards males. It was split into another faction after an internal disagreement on ideals. The Valkyrie faction believes in honor. They do not like unnecessary fighting. They still harbour a particular dislike and wariness of males, but do not factor that into their actions (mostly).

Amazon- A female only faction. Split off from the original Valkyrie faction that was created so that members could protect eachother. Amazons hold a more "survival of the fittest" viewpoint and often loot and kill members from other factions. They harbour and often act upon a strong hatred for males, who they view as inferior.

Arcanum- A little known faction consisting of few people. They seem to be trying to protect/seek something. They operate almost like a hivemind, making them especially competent, though few in number.

The Alliance- Headed by a faction called "Unity", this faction actually consists of hundreds of other smaller factions. This faction is an attempt at uniting all the stray factions so that they can function more effectively and with more order. Faction leaders in The Alliance usually meet up once every period of time to discuss issues and exchange information and resources. Due to its nature, this faction does not actually hold any particular ideals or goals of its own aside from unification and power in numbers. May have some ties with the Keepers.

Strays- A term used for all the factions that are not part of the large factions. Stray factions are usually the result of a small group of people trying to look out for one another by themselves. They usually consist of no more than 10 people at most, though there are exceptions. Some stray factions don't even have names. The goals and ideals of each stray faction is unique to itself. Strays are often victims of other factions.

The actual danger range is 80-98%. Exceeding the range will result in no change, preservation of powers, and an increase in the strength of powers. Some GateKeepers are actually chosen to undergo a secret procedure with low success rates where they try to manually increase the deterioration level of an individual directly past 98%. Failures are usually killed on the spot before Meltdown. Individuals who undergo this procedure and succeed sometimes end up with minor, partial tranformations.

The infections are meant to create incarnations of Aeon (Eons) that strive to revive the actual Aeon. If left to its own devices for a long enough time, an Eon will become Aeon. It's hard as the process takes well over a year or two, and Eons aren't really immortal in the sense that they still have to eat in order to sustain their bodies. Most unnoticed Eons just starve.

There have been instances of Meltdowns where only the body but not the mind was changed. Of course, information of these particular cases are confidential and hidden from the public. The leader of one of the shelters might be someone who has had their mind changed, but not their bodies. Someone with their mind changed becomes an incarnation of Aeon that is secretly bent on his revival. I suggest only one instance of a changed mind but not body. Possibly the son of the former leader who hid the fact that his son was infected, or, for irony, the leader of Arcanum.

The Shelters actually secretly scatter resources (such as food) into the wilderness so that the Factions don't actually attack the Shelters. Of course, this is known only by a few within the Shelters and GateKeepers, and only a few leaders of the Factions have a clue that this might be the case.

Arcanum has actually located the "Source" of the infections (a piece of Aeon that is still alive/is constantly producing Aeon Particles). They are seeking the "Truth" behind what the infection actually is and does. The leader's ability is to tune minds in together, like one huge radio network.
