Advice on starting a roleplay?

I am very new to this site. I recently started a group roleplay and a 1x1 roleplay but both seemed to be overlooked. I don't know if it's because they were really overlooked or it's because of my oc. Is there any advice on how to get a roleplay started and to make balanced ocs? I want to improve my writing.

It could be that a lot of users want to avoid RPing because of the site wide upgrade that's going to happen. It's gonna cause the site to go down between 2 - 7 days.

Update - August 8th - Update Day


Also the update is going to completely change how roleplays work on this site so I wouldn't get started if you new just yet. This way your not having to unlearn anything and you can start fresh.
