Ki-Mono

True Crime Junkie
Long ago, a goddess was cut in half protecting one of her forests from a spirit of cold and ice. Unfortunately the forest was buried in snow, and many of the animals met a similar fate. She was later found by friendly woodland spirits. She was given a second chance by being sewn together with a fallen deer to create the first centaur. Upon returning to the other gods, she was rejected due to her unholy appearance and failure to protect what she had to. She went to a secluded place to weep. Magical flowers sprang from where her tears fell, and from there she built children; beings that resembled her, to help ease her loneliness.

Years have passed. The goddess is merely a story the centaurs pass from one generation to the next. The centaurs have remained safe for centuries, secluded from humans, and friends with most spirits. Unknown by the other gods. They survive off the flowers that now cover the land gaining magical and healing powers from them. However, all is not well. For the frosted spirits have found their home, and are creeping in, threatening to kill them and the flowers that help keep them and the forest alive. Not only that, but humans and dark spirits have also begun to discover this untainted land. How will the centaurs cope with these unknown problems?

The more peaceful of the two, the deer value
soul over body. They are usually better at
gardening and cooking. They believe in
preservation of the soul, making them far more
connected with the spirits. More deer are
shamans because of this. The deer praise the
goddess for the life they were given. Because of
this, they praise women in a similar way; being
the life givers of us all. So, they always elect a
female to represent them. Deer are not weak
though, and move much more nimbly than the
horses when in a fight. Deer are more likely
to run away when confronted, but are willing to
lay down their life to protect ones they love.

T H ExxxxxH O R S E S
────────────────────────────────────
The more tactical of the two, the horses believe mind
and body should both be kept in tip-top condition.
They are usually better at carving and battling. They
believe safety is most important, making them more
aware of their surroundings. The horses are usually left
in charge of what to do about the frost ghouls and
various other unknown things. The horses usually only go
to the deer when it's a spiritual matter. The horses
respect men more than women, seeing them as stronger
and more useful. The goddess was killed by a male spirit
after all. Though much stronger than the deer, they cannot
outrun them, and sometimes use the deer as scouts,
if they feel their weight would be too noisy.

Tasks / Ranks
T A S K S
The tasks of the Tribe seem simple alone, but together they keep the community flowing. No one is limited to one single deed, but, just like with us, everyone has talents that better suit one task over another. A few are considered higher rank than others because of the work and commitment that is needed for it.

xxxM O N A R C H
The Monarch is the highest rank. There can only be two Monarchs; a deer and a
horse. The deer is always female, and the horse is always male. Together they make
decisions for the tribe. They can be very simple decisions, or great big ones. Either way,
the Monarchs' words are law. If the Monarchs cannot decide on something together, they
must present their thoughts to the people, and have them vote. The Monarchs are
elected when the former Monarch dies or retires. The deer Monarch must be picked by
the deer, and the horse Monarch must be picked by the horses. If the people cannot
agree on a Monarch, a challenge can be made for them to compete.

xxxS H A M A N
Shaman read omens and prophecies written in the stars and in nature. They
are also the most skilled at communicating with spirits and ghosts. The Monarchs come
to them often for advice. They are skilled in most magic, but use it more in rituals,
whatever that ritual may be. Most days they pray to the gods, and seek wisdom a
nd spiritual enlightenment.

xxxH E A L E R
The Healers are responsible for the sick and injured of the tribe. Curing
most illnesses with herbs they make, or potions they brew. They are very
knowledgeable on sicknesses, and all the many plants that can help
cure them. During times of health, the Healers are known to experiment
with the magic flowers; creating potions with unexpected powers.

xxxD E F E N D E R
The defenders are the first to jump into action if a situation arises;
whether it be with the [removed], or something else. Usually, these centaur are
the strongest and fastest, and skilled at many weapons such as bow and spear.
They patrol the land frequently, and have a strong sense of duty. They are
usually the first to rise and the last to rest.

xxxC A R E T A K E R
The caretakers are responsible for the care and well-being of the
magical flowers that help their kind and their forest thrive. They also grow
food for the tribe, and help care for any other matters the forest may need.
They usually are the ones to look after the children and Chi Chies if everyone
else is busy, and help the healers with the sick and injured.

xxxC R E A T O R
The Creators are responsible for making essentially everything the
centaurs need: from weapons, to tables, to walls, you name it. They even
help the Shamans in making items they may need in rituals. Not only do they
work with wood, but they also weave all the clothing and baskets the centaurs
use. They are people of many talents.

────────────────────────────
*Younglings are simply centaur too young to fully know what their place is in the community, or are still training under someone to help find their talent*

Other creatures (NPC)
O T H E RxxxB E I N G S
Just to clarify, these NPCs are playable, but they can be "played" by anyone, and aren't real characters.
They are meant to be played in a general sense, not having names etc. They're only here to give some world building and things to do.
Role playing of them must always be done in the perspective of your centaur.

W E N D I G O
The Wendigo: the most feared of all the creatures in this forest
and many others. The dreaded spirits that bring cold and death
wherever they go. They come, and devour everything in their
path. Leaving nothing behind, but snow and ice. The strongest
of these spirits was the very being that killed the goddess so
many years ago. If you think you are being stalked by one,
there is nothing to do other than to create some kind of
distraction and run to the safety of warmth.

F A R I E S
Fairies are very mischievous creatures. Usually they are quite
independent, tending to the forest, and helping to grow the
magic flowers. However, one of their favorite pass times is
playing tricks on the centaurs, and ease dropping on all their
conversations. Fairies will rarely spill the beans to non-fairy
friends.

H U M A N S
There are not many humans around. Most centaurs don't even believe
their friends when they speak of sightings; never having heard of a
being "without their lower half". Humans are just starting to discover
this land, and frankly, they seem to have come for negative reasons.
Killing animals here and there, with loud weapons that sound like
thunder.

C H I C H I E S
The Chi Chies are strange spirits. No one knows where they came from or
what their purpose is. All that is known is that the Chi Chies love the
centaurs, and follow them around everywhere. They also love to roll
around in the magic flowers. Some centaurs have favorite Chi Chies
they keep as pets, giving extra attention to them. In the end, the
Chi Chies seem to depend on the centaurs care.
(Chi Chi are chicken-like creatures that have a mushroom-like hat attached to their bodies.
When they are tired or scared, they bury themselves in the ground to nap or hide)

S H A D O W S PI R I T S
Shadow Spirits come from the other realm. Nothing is known about
them: where they come from, and what they want. It is impossible
to know if they are good or evil. You must only take a chance.
Sometimes you hear them whispering, in a language you don't
understand. Sometimes you can't see them, but the whispering
remains.

A N I M A L S
Of course, this is a forest. And like any forest, it is inhabited by far more
than just you and I. Woodland creatures of every kind can be found:
from foxes, to birds, to wolves, to fish, to tiny insects. The centaur
cannot speak these creatures languages, but they have all learned to
understand one another and respect each others space. However, not all
neighbors are nice neighbors, so caution should always be used. A mama
bear looking to feed her babies could be desperate enough for centaur
hide.

Locations
squarecaps.medium.png

The RP is set in an unspecific place with extremely tall trees and wildflowers everywhere.
This place does not exist, but I get a Norse and Irish vibe from it.

M O T H E R xxT R E E xx
Words cannot describe the size of the Mother Tree. This tree
stands in the middle of the forest, and is home to all the
centaurs who live inside the hollowed out trunk. Despite being
hollow, the tree is not dead. This tree, supposedly, is the
place the goddess came to in her despair. Some of the centaurs
believe this tree gives the forest life, and has more power than
the flowers.

C O L Dxx N O T H I N G xx
Coming from the south, the Cold Nothing creeps in. Slowly,
closer and closer every day. The centaurs are able to push it back
slightly using their magic; however, it seems to be no use. The
Wedigos live in the Cold Nothing, and they're starting to venture,
looking for their next victim. The flowers cannot survive the cold,
and neither can the centaur.

S I L V E Rxx R U N xx
The Silver Run is a river that tears through the forest. It is a hot
spot for many woodland creatures; bears especially like to use
the river. Sometimes you must cross the river, or hop along stones
to get from one place to another. Normally the trek is safe, but
with heavy rain, the river can flash flood easily, and sweep away
the strongest of centaurs.

F O R E V E Rxx W A Yxx
Forever Way is said to be a gateway to another realm. It is said,
once you start walking this trail, your mind gets hazy and dizzy.
You forget where or who you are. But they say they just kept
walking, and somehow got back to the same place. It's unknown
what exactly happens, since no one can remember the journey.
It is advised not to go into the Forever Way, for some say, that
not everyone returns.

F A L L I N Gxx S P R I N Gxx
Falling Spring in the major hang-out for the centaurs. Whether it
be the older centaurs looking for a simple bath and chat, or the
younglings daring each other to jump off the ledge into the water.
This always makes their parents nervous because injuries are not
uncommon. Either way, this is the place to be, no matter the age.

D E A DxxW O O D xx
Dead Wood never seems to be in the same place twice, but
everyone always knows how to get to it, or maybe it gets to you.
The dark spirits come from here, and it's said that those who seek
the Dark Wood wish for something they cannot have. They may
ask the spirits for advice, and some say they even see the dead.

R I MxxO Fxx T H E xxG O D S xx
The Rim Of The Gods stretches for miles along the east side-edge of
the forest. Not many travel here for there is no need. The flowers
do not seem to grow this far, and the higher you get, the colder it
becomes. Some wonder what is beyond them, while others feel
this mountain is only for the gods.

FAQ
your-royal-majesty.fancy.png

Well, these aren't really frequently asked questions, but they are questions I have gotten, or are questions I'm sure you have.

What kind of clothes do the centaurs wear?
There aren't really set rules, but what you have to remember is that these centaur do not have access to modern technology or human styles. For now I'm settling on a medieval style meets tribal. What your centaur wears will reflect their personality, and is kind of up to you. Some centaur prefer to wear nothing at all. The only ranks that seem to always be wearing something are Defenders and Shaman.

Can Deer centaur and Horse centaur have children?
Yes! Deer and Horse centaur can get married and have children together. However, just to keep things simple for me, have the kids reflect primarily one species over the other. So I know which side of the list to put them on. On their forums you may put "Halfa (Deer)" etc, if you'd like. If this becomes a big thing, I may just add a whole new section to the list.

What is apprenticeship like? Is it like Warrior Cats?
No. It's much like how apprenticeship in the real world works. You see someone who you feel has talent and an interest to learn, you may take them on as an apprentice. Someone who you will train in your craft to hopefully "carry on your legacy". Unlike Warrior Cats, apprentices are not assigned. It's up to you guys to discuss it amongst yourselves to help your characters makes their own important decisions. Centaur may have several apprentices in their lifetime, but they only have one at a time.

What exactly is the magic the centaur use?
The centaur get magical abilities from the magic flowers they consume. These flowers are said to hold some of the power left behind by the goddess. The magic is unpredictable, and can be many things. In it's most raw form, it seems to be elemental. Giving the centaur basic control over fire, water, etc. However, when the centaur use their powers, it seems to drain energy, and can leave you totally exhausted at a bad time if you don't use it wisely.
Some centaur dedicate most of their lives mastering the magic, and finding new ways to use it. While others simply know enough to get by with what they need. The Healers like to experiment with the flowers to see if they can find out more about them.

What is the age range of a Youngling?
A Youngling is from the day you are born, to the day your mentor graduates you. I was gonna settle on 16 (marrying age) to be the minimum a mentor can do this, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to make 16 the marrying age. Either way, I'll probably keep that age for the apprenticeship thing. You can of course be older before you graduate if your mentor feels you are unready.

Are there other centaur herds?
There are, but this particular herd is very secluded and are unaware of the existence of other centaur herds

Horse/Deer babies and human babies are totally different. What are centaur babies like?
They are born around the default age of 3. Since having an human infant stuck to a fully functioning lower half would be too goofy to bare lol

I have the gods & spirits listed by rank/power
🜁 🜃 🜂 🜄

𝕋ℍ𝔼 𝕆𝕃𝔻 𝔾𝕆𝔻𝕊
xx The old gods existed long ago; long before men or centaur. Their names and forms have long been forgotten, but it is said they still live. They made the earth, from fire, water, earth, and air. Their powers are based off elements such as ice, light, and even death itself. It's unclear how many old gods there are, for it has long been forgotten. All that is known is that they once existed, but if they still live, it is best not to anger them.

When the centaur are suffering from a bad drought, or a loved one is very sick; the centaur will still pray to them, in hopes they hear.
Every new moon, the Shaman preform a ritual for the old gods, in hopes of keeping them pleased; for they are the most powerful of gods. They honor the fire, the water, the earth, and the air. The have an unmarked alter for all the old gods they know exist, but cannot name.

𝕋ℍ𝔼 𝔾𝕆𝔻 ℂℝ𝕆𝕎ℕ
xxThe gods in the Crown are the gods most commonly known. It is unclear where they came from, but they seemed to rise with the time of humanity. Which fits perfectly with their powers of mind and emotion. At first they ruled the humans in the flesh. Some seemed to live along side them as friends, while others ruled with an iron fist. It is said they fought the Old gods in a great battle; it appears the Crown won, however the details are unclear. At some point the Crown went to live on a mountain deemed "more holy" then the ground below. People once knew where they lived, but as time passed; arguments grew around it.

The Crown gods are based on emotion and mind, such as love and hate, happy and sad, peace and war.
Praying to these gods for good luck and fortune is very common. Some pray to love and futility if they seek a child, while others pray to despair and war for those that have angered them.
Rituals are held often for these gods in hopes of keeping the peace in the forest, and the love in the centaurs hearts. Offerings are made to gods like war at least every moon, in hopes of keeping bad things away.
The Crown is known to send prophecies and omens in order to warn their most favored centaur.

𝕋ℍ𝔼 𝕃𝔼𝕊𝕊𝔼ℝ 𝔾𝕆𝔻𝕊
xxThe goddess herself, who the centaur hold most dear; was, in fact, a lesser god. She was the god of gardening, and brought good harvest to many.
The lesser gods are not necessarily weaker in power (depending on who you ask), however their deeds are usually that of more mundane tasks; like baking, art, music, and writing.
The lesser gods usually traveled much, and thus no one knows truly where they are. However they are good friends if you are ever to meet them. Their power can be great, but they keep themselves humble and low. It is even said they probably were once just like you and me, which is why they seem to understand the struggles of the daily person.

Some pray to these gods, however it is more common to make and carry trinkets that help to invite their presence and skills.
Rituals are very rarely held for these gods by the shamans, however it is not uncommon to find a small personal shine in the home of a centaur to their favorite god.
The only exception to this is the goddess herself, who has rituals held for her almost daily by the shamans. Many people come to pray at her shrine that sits right at the base of the tree. She, however, is usually viewed more as a loving mother, rather than a powerful god.
