Ace Character - Final 4
Age: 20 (2012)
Height: 6’
Appearance: Built Farmboy
Years of lifting hay bails and working on the ranch have put muscle on Benjamin. He has just enough fat to make sure those muscles aren't ridiculously toned, and that he has weight to back them up, but he certainly is attractive by normal standards. His eyes and hair are both brown though his hair is more on the sandy brown side and his eyes on the mellow, oak brown side of things. He often wears stained white t-shirts and tanktops with faded blue jeans when working, and he wears polo shirts and button ups when he's coaching. He has a pair of gloves that are high standard he is very protective of; even has his initials on the inner cuff of both.
Personality: When All You Have is a Hammer, Everything Looks like a Nail
Ben has often been seen as one of the less intelligent just because he doesn't talk much. Well, he just doesn't talk much around people he doesn't know. Around his family and around people he knows, he's actually very talkative on any subject he knows about. Namely building and fixing things, but also nature itself and baseball. He's a pretty easy going guy; not the type to become easily angered. One of the few things that does anger him is insulting or threatening his family. He knows how to hunt and has a gun that belongs solely to him and if his family were in danger, he would take it upon himself to protect them at any cost. He often shoulders more work then he should, and he's just not the type that asks for help. He hates being a burden on other people, and often does what he can to help and support people that need it. At least the people he knows and cares about.
Likes - A good days work, Watching/Playing Sports, Being Outdoors, a Home Cooked meal, Iced Lemonade on a Hot Day
Dislikes - Fighting of any sort, Yelling when direct at people, threats or insults to his friends and family, people who are lazy
Fears - Losing his Family in any way, shape, or form.
History - The American Dream... not so much a dream
It was fairly common for the families that lived on farms and ranches to be rather large. Benjamin's was no different. He had 3 older brothers, one younger brother and 2 younger sisters. It was a full house, and that wasn't including his parents, his neighbors which were more family (Aunts, Uncles, cousins) and all of the animals they cared for. Benjamin grew up in this; always surrounded by family, never really exposed to the outside world until school.
When school did come around, he was definitely one of the guys who goofed off more then listened to the teacher but it was mostly because he didn't understand and didn't know how to ask for the help to understand. It was like all the other kids were struggling too, but just wouldn't admit it- at least in his mind. That being said there was no task that Ben would back down from when it was physical. Physical Education was one of his best classes, that and biology surprisingly enough. He just had a natural interest and understanding of both the human body and the things of nature. Throughout school he struggled quite a bit, only keeping his grades together enough to be able to participate in sports.
The expectation to go to college was heavy on his shoulders, despite how two of his brothers had joined the military after high school. How his brothers even managed to make it into the army with what happened t their father was forever a mystery to Ben. Having lost the man when he was 6 , it was a devastation the entire family had to work together to overcome. The military became a bad thing the day the men showed up at the door with the flag and the news his father had been killed. And yet both Josh and Timmothy decided to join in, but Ben was having none of that. He didn't really know what he wanted, so he went to college for a year on a sports scholarship only to realize that that's not what he wanted. He ended up coming back home to his mother's both delight and dismay. He has a reputation with the family at the moment as being a slacker, despite being a hard worker around the ranch. It's not really... something to be proud of, dropping out of college. Still, his brother's death had been quite the wakeup call and Ben realized he just wanted to be home. And so he got a job as a baseball coach, and then began working the ranch to earn his keep.
Family: Broken Pieces make a Whole
Mother - Emma Jones (52) - Stay at home mom, very overprotective. She and Ben have a distant relationship
Father (deceased) - Thomas Jones -45- died in 1998 - Military man, died when Ben was young. He never really got to know him.
Step Father - John Miller - (54) Mail man, which is how Emma and he met.
Oldest Brother (29) Josh Jones - Military man, never really had much to do with Ben. Spent more time with Tim. TIm's death hit him hard, but he's still in the military
2nd Oldest (deceased) Timmothy Jones -25- died in 2011 - Military man, was very close to Josh. Another brother Ben never really got to know, though.
3rd Oldest (25) Gene Jones - Going to college for a degree in law. Trying to escape farm life completely; was a bully to Ben most of the time growing up.
Ben (20) - dropped out of college to come home, works as a baseball coach during the baseball season
Younger Sister (17) Sarah Jones - She's definitely hit her rebellious streak, but she and Ben have stuck together like glue and she tends to confide her troubles to Ben.
Youngest Brother (14) Michael Jones - The baby of the Jones' family, Ben and Sarah both looked after him and protected him from bullies at school. Ben looks upon Mikey with fondness.
Youngest Sister (5) Lilly Jones - A child born between their mother and step father, Ben isn't entirely sure what to do with her. She's very pretty, of course, and a sweet enough kid but still Ben doesn't know.
Uncle (45) Eugene Jones - Ben's favorite Uncle. They often go hunting and fishing together. Was more a father then his own father was.
Aunt (42) Cindy Jones - She would often have Ben and Sarah over at their house and spoil them with sweets like a grandmother would, except she was cooler then any grandmother (not that Ben had anything to compare to. His grandparents passed away before he was born).
Cousin (17) Mindy Jones - Ben's best friend other then Sarah; very close. Mindy is who Ben tends to confide in, despite her being 3 years younger.
Cousin (15) Joseph Jones - Mikey spent more time with Joseph and Joanne but Ben appreciates them for being Mikey's much needed friends.
Cousin (15) Joanne Jones - she is Joseph's twin and though they're fraternal, they may as well have been identical since they look very much alike.
Uncle (39) Evan Jones - kind of estranged, he is definitely the crazy paranoid uncle. He helps out on the farm, but otherwise Ben doesn't have much to do with Uncle Evan.
Location: Altamont, Utah - USA
Ben has spent almost all of his life in this place, except for the year away he was at college. He prefers the quieter life of the rural town, and the large ranches. Not that he dislikes people, he just doesn't prefer their company except in small numbers. He loves hanging out with his sister and cousins, but doesn't like being surrounded by a lot of people.
His house is the largest on the property- it was Ben's grandparent's house and Ben's mom never really left the house. She just continued to live there, and when she got married her husband came to live there as well. The house his Uncle Eugene lives in is smaller, but still a fair sized house. It's a short walk away from Ben's and he often spent more time in that house then his own if he could help it. Uncle Evan's house is a little log shack that the man built himself. He is almost always in it, unless he's doing his chores on the ranch.
