Futuristic A Futuristic Apocalypse

In the wake of the 25th century war that pretty much destroyed the planet and started the zombie apocalypse, survivors have been living in specialized zones called Bubble Zones. These zones have 2 purposes in mind, one is to keep the citizens that live in the bubble zone safe, the second purpose to keep the zombies out. In between the zones are areas known only as the wasteland which have held small towns, suburban areas and old ruined cities that were lost to the zombie plague and never really recovered by the survivors and taken over by the zombies. But there is hope recently close to the end of the 25th century a specialized team was established to combat the zombies in the wastelands and drive them off the earth if at ever possible. The reason for this new team creation is that the zombies are starting to ramp up their attacks against bubble zones and it is feared that if the zombies get enough in their ranks they will be able to overrun and consume the bubble zones. The specialized team established and trained to fight these undead creatures are known only by this acronym Z.K.S they were established in a special bubble zone known as zone 86-16-90

Master Gunnery Chief Gabriel Jacobson of the 23rd Tactical Division was just going over the new assignment he had been given by command, he would be leading a new squad, having recently been promoted to his new rank, was surprised to learn that most of, if not all of his squad was going to be rookies. Just barely out of the training academy and had no field experience whatsoever, but he knew that the rookies would learn and he would do his best to make sure they were able to come back from every mission alive. He also would make sure that they could preform their jobs to the standards that was expected of them. He just hoped that the rest of his division would fair better without his guidance, most of the younger members of the squad came to him before every mission they went on, for advice and how best to handle the situation ahead. They seemed to look up to him as sort of a parental figure, for whatever that was worth, He just usually told them that they needed to focus on their jobs and to come back safe, he felt that was the advice he could give them. It seemed to work most of the time, but today, was gonna be different, he was gonna be leading a squad into battle, something he hadn't done since...well since the days that he had been assigned to train new recruits that came into the division. Most of his superiors seemed to see him as a trainer, not a field operative. Sometimes, he wanted to take their noses and punch them so hard that they would break their skulls. But he never let that go beyond what he would consider reasonable force.

"Hey their Chief, you doing all right there? New orders huh? Looks like your finally getting to lead your own squad." The young officer who had come up to him, he was the grizzled vet of the division. They all knew it, that's why they seemed to just ask him for advice, even some of the senior officers seemed to ask him for general advice. He had been turned over for promotions so many times until finally, one of the senior officers had stuck up for him and had complained to the top brass about how Gabriel was being excluded from being promoted, even though he had the most time in the division and didn't deserve to be treated in such a manner. It was true, the 26 year old had put in some 8+ years or more to the 23rd tactical, when he could have gone and joined a platoon where he knew he mattered and knew they would be appreciative of his skill set and what he had to offer. The entirety of Z.K.S knew about his history and seemed to respect him for it. He didn't think his history was that important, he was a warrior, a fighter and a dedicated individual.

Gabriel had black hair and black eyes, that if you looked into them and tried to find a soul, you could swear that there was no soul in his body, just a husk of a man, ready to receive one. But yet his compassion and all the other human needs and feelings seemed to show when no one was looking, or if he was in private, he wouldn't just show his feelings to anyone. He was tall, for his age anyways, he sometimes felt that his height was a little too high, because he rose up above some of the other members and he didn't like that feeling of being seen as higher than anyone else. He preferred to fit in, not be different from the pack. He carried his custom SCAR-25 HB-CAR wherever he went, he even slept with it, magazine out and chamber clear as well as on safe of course. He wasn't a dumb ass, he knew what would happen if the gun dropped and it was loaded. he was always wary of people.

Regardless though, he was to get to know his new squad, so with a sigh and a second of intense silence, he got up, threw on his tactical gear and checked his weapon. He walked to where he had been told to meet his new squad and once he got there, he waited for the transport to come in and greet them, the recruits were being flown in from the academy to his sector and he would just greet them and do his best to not seem too intimidating to them. But, if he had to get down and dirty with them, he would. Although he might not be expecting one thing, which was to lead females into battle, he never knew what it would be like leading the opposite gender of them, if he got a whole squad of them, then he wasn't sure he would be up for the task, but he would still try regardless.

It had seemed like forever since Ava had sat in her seat , looking out of the window with a sigh looking into her own reflection , thinking that she would end up in a squad full of strangers. Away from her family and friends. To fight what in her mind was a hopeless cause , The undead had vastly outnumbered the remaining population of humans , maybe Ava was scared , she wanted to protect her loved ones. And she even went through training to get to this point. It was probably all setting in now , who knows what challenges she would be facing , the relationships she would make with her squad mates. She was already missing her family back at home.

Before she knew it her transport had stopped. So did her heart for a split second. She could see a man waiting outside , perhaps it was her Chief? She sighed hoping the man wasn't a hard ass , but if he was like any of her sergeants back at training academy she knew shed clash with the guy. Ava picked her duffel bag , throwing it over her back . As she walked out of the bus. After she got a good look at the man she realized how massive he was. She gulped but tried to put on her best smile , maybe to ease the tension she was having herself.

"Hey Chief!" Ava said sporting a smile. She extended her hand out to the man with hollow eyes hopeful that he'd shake it back. "Ava King reporting in. " Oh geez , hope she didn't sound too weird.

Gabriel looked at the woman that was standing before him and extending her hand to shake, he takes a second before nodding to her and taking her hand in his and shaking it "Welcome Pvt. King, to the 26th Tactical Division. I'm Chief Gabriel and I'll be your squad leader. We will be waiting for the others before we continue, for now, stand at ease facing me as the first member of the squad to arrive." He told her as he looked her up and down real quick and just waited for the rest of the squad mates to arrive so that he could give them a proper greeting and then a briefing and showing them to their bunks and letting them get settled before he would run them through a trial drill to see how much of the academy training that they had retained.

Gabriel also checked his gear while they waited, he was a stickler for making sure that his technology was operational and that command had not tried to mess with his equipment, not that they ever had as far as he knew, but he had to be sure. He never knew what those guys in the armory were thinking sometimes when they decided to make tweaks without the user's permission and having it blow up in your face while in battle. he shuddered to himself as he thought about that and hoped that he didn't have to suffer the same fate as some of the poor un-lucky souls in that instance

Felix was old. In fact, he was turning 36 this year. At the academy from his zone, he was the oldest cadet to have graduated. The second oldest cadet from his batch was 10 years younger than him. As he sat in the transport waiting for his destination, he thought about the hard work and training he had done for the past few years in the academy.

The academy was a learning center dedicated in training new soldiers for the various Bubble Zones in the world. It produced inexperienced, but combat ready cadets who are willing to protect the rest of mankind from zombies. Felix took his training seriously. Being the oldest cadet from his batch, he felt the need to excel and become a role model for his younger batchmates.

Everyday at the academy was purely for training. A harsh wake up call at 4 am sharp every morning followed by a grueling morning PT which included 5 km runs, crawling through muddied soil, navigating dangerous terrain, and ending with a revigorating, cold bath.

Felix smiled as arrived at his destination. He stood up and stretched his tensed muscles, releasing the stress on his joints. He picked up his Duffle Bag and left the transportation, thanking the driver as he passed.

The moment he stepped off the vehicle, he double-checked his belongings. Pleased that he still had his equipment, he looked around him and tried to find his Squad Leader. Soon, he spotted a tall man wearing fatigues talking to a shorter woman. Seeing the sergeant insignia from the man's fatigue, Felix assumed that he was his squad leader and proceeded to walk towards the pair.

Upon reaching 3 steps near the taller man, Felix stood at attention and saluted, "Good morning sir! Private O'Connor reporting for duty sir!" He waited for further instructions.

Gabriel saw the other Private come in and he saluted the Private before saying "At ease Pvt." He said as he added "Welcome to 26th Tactical Division, the best and brightest of Z.K.S 3rd Tactical Operations Combat Division. I will be your leader, I am Chief Gabriel Jacobson, but you will refer to me as Chief or Chief Jacobson, understood. While we wait for the rest of the squad to get here, why don't you drop your bag on the floor and return to an at ease position. Same with you King," He told Ava as he waited to see if there were any other rookies coming and as a few more came in and reported in, he had a full squad now and made them go to a position of attention "Squad, Attention!" He then motioned for them to follow him as he started the walk from the drop off point to where the 26th Tactical had it's barracks at.

As they walked through the base, the newly graduated privates would see an entirely functioning base with helicopter pad, aircraft hangers, vehicle bays, personnel training on various outdoor areas. Squads drilling with their weapons and different squad maneuvers. Once or twice they would see a few different types of squads/personnel that looked different from the rank and file Z.K.S squads and divisions that operated out of 3rd Tactical. A sign would read above the main entrance to the base "Zombie Killing Section, Armed Forces Combat Command, 3rd Tactical Operations Combat Command." A slogan below that read "Vigil Combatants - Always Vigilant, Always Protecting, Always Ready."

These specialized squads/personnel seemed to be wearing more technologically advanced equipment and weapon systems than anyone else seemed to have. Their armor would seem to be heavier as a result, but they seemed to manage. At times, it was like they weren't even there and just seemed to 'pop' in and out of think air as if they were wearing some kind of personal time-travel or location-jumping device. Their uniforms were darker than the rest of the mainline ZKS personnel, they had a very different shade of camouflage on their fatigues that seemed to blend into the environment they were sitting in. Their helmets also seemed to be completely customized based on the individual operators preferences, some had various communications and extra nigh-lighting equipment on them, while others seemed to be more customized for specialist operations like demolitions, etc. All seemed to have two things in common though, they had a two-digit number separated by a dash on the sides of their helmets and all members seemed to have a white skull faceplate over where their mouths would be.

Felix, along with his new squadmates, walked behind their Chief Jacobson as he brought them inside the base. At a glance, Felix knew that the base was high-tech and fully-equipped. As they passed through the different parts of the base, he noticed the equipment on the various squads that patrolled around the base. Every squad looked to have been equipped with Fully armed weapons and Experimental technology.

While walking, one of the base's soldiers 'popped' out of thin air near Felix. This action surprised him, making him flinch away and gasp. The soldier just looked back at Felix and said, "Watch where you're going, private." Felix gave a quick salute and said, "Sir yes sir!" After the quick interaction with the camouflaged soldier, Felix turned back and resumed his walking with his squad.

He thought about his equipment, his FN Scar and Nagant. His weapons seemed ancient compared to the weapons the base's soldiers were wielding. He made up his mind and determined that he was going to upgrade his equipment as soon as possible. The higher the quality in his equipment, the stronger he becomes in battle.
