20th Annual Midnight County Fair
chris'coding
The town of Midnight has always been a bit of an odd place. One that attracts the strangest of people, and an oppressive veil of secrecy that covers every move. Tucked away in the quietest corner of Colorado, there aren't many strangers who stumble across it. Decently sized enough to not feel like you're holding hands with your neighbor, but still small enough to know everyone and their kids. Small enough to know all the... odd rules. Rules that even the most daring and rebellious kids wouldn't break. Whether or not they believed the urban legends was a different story.

The Midnight County Fair is an event that is always looked forward to by the locals. Every summer the fair comes to town, setting up for two weeks and providing plenty of cheer and fun to teens who may be bored my their otherwise monotonous lives. A little old-fashioned and rundown, the fair has it's charms but also a strange aesthetic. The one place in town with no rules, it's no surprise that the youth are drawn to it. Well... one rule. A strict curfew at midnight. One that people have joked about breaking but none have. At least not until this summer.

Cameron Bayley, a crucial member in your close-knit group of 7 friends. He's always been quite the dare devil. On the first day of the last week, you all dare him to stay behind after curfew. No one actually expected him to do it but it's been a full week sense you've seen him. So on the last day of the fair your little band of friends stays after midnight. But are you guys paranoid or did that ride just start on its own? You swear that animatronic wasn't looking at you before. And you're having a nagging feeling that someone, or something, is watching your every move.

sorry but rules are a necessity:
  • questions: definitely feel free to ask me any questions you may have about the plot. i am probably the least intimidating person on the planet and i will try my best to answer any and every question you may have
  • cast size: for purposes of organization (and the fact that this is my first attempt at running a group rp) i will keep the cast very small. Only looking for 5 other player, may be flexible and accept more but this is where i want to stay
  • characters: i was going to, but i decided against creating very basic character archetypes to give y'all the most freedom. that being said, please be aware of the personalities of other members when you apply. i don't want 6 badass, scared of nothing characters. also this is meant to be a fairly close-knit group of friends so perhaps your loner character wouldn't fit too well here (of course, feel free to try it. i'll read all the characters thoroughly)
  • writing: i intend for this to be a bit of an atmospheric horror roleplay so all members should be able to contribute to the atmosphere. this means i am looking for writers on the detailed side as opposed to the casual side
  • the length: because of the above i will be expecting a minimum of 2 paragraphs (or 250 words). more is definitely welcome
  • the activity: unsure of this as of right now. i plan to run this roleplay using a chapter format where each player will be required to post at least once per chapter. the length of each chapter will be discussed ooc once a group is picked, but with the detail requirement in mind each chapter will last at least one week (so one reply per week minimum but more is welcome... just don't spam and keep 2 or 3 replies in between your last)
  • spots: as there are a small number of spots I will not make this first come first serve. don't be discouraged if there are people who have applied before you. also as mentioned, i am willing to drum up one or two more spots if characters are just that compelling
  • god modding: feel free to add to the roleplay's atmosphere. feel free to have your character react to something in the environment. do not control anyone else's character. do not have things in the environment attack other people's characters
  • lastly: obviously, follow all RPN rules. and please enjoy. this is my first baby. can't have people not having fun!

The moon shone overhead, weaving in and out of ribbons of clouds like a child playing peakaboo. Though the sky was not turbulent. It was an eerie sort of calm. On that seemed almost unnatural and ever so threatening. It was meant to rain tonight and though rain fell just 20 minutes south of the town, Midnight remained dry. A happy fact for the teens and other youngsters, as it was the last day the fair would be in town. Tomorrow, the rides and attractions would all be gone, leaving behind an empty field that bore no mark of what was there before.

The sound of gleeful screams and laughter filled the fair. Though the clock ticked closer and closer to midnight, there was still a good amount of people that remained. This included the group of friends who were here on a mission. Though they wouldn't really be able to put their plan into motion until after the park was emptied, they agreed to meet early. An hour until show time, the friends occupied the park. Perhaps enjoying the normalcy before things would inevitably hit the fan later. Or maybe trying to talk the other's into doing this. Cameron Bayley was missing, yes. But did they all need to go missing as well to solve some mystery that could be easily answered by listening to the myths of Midnight?

Dalton felt that the answer was no, but he'd be damned if he sat back and let his friends get themselves into trouble without him being there to offer his wisdom and expertise. The boy stood at the cotton stand, propping himself against it as he eyed each person who passed by warily. He didn't trust them, he didn't trust anyone outside of his friends at this point. Dalton gnawed anxiously at the toothpick between his lips before pulling his cellphone from his pocket. Quickly scrolling through he located the text chain he was looking for and began typing away.

"About an hour before it's too late to turn back. Meet at the Ferris Wheel. We need to go over the game plan again."

He hesitated for a moment before pressing send. Everyone in the group should've received the message, except for Beck of course. But Dalton had already talked to Beck about meeting at the Ferris Wheel at 11 so he wasn't to worried that he wouldn't show up. What he was worried about though, was the plan. It was good to have one yes, but Dalton's paranoia pushed him to think the worst. Even thinking about staying at the fair after curfew gave Dalton the feeling that he was being watched. But despite the hairs on the back of his neck raising, a quick glance behind him yielded nothing.

Hands in pocket and toothpick in mouth, Dalton carried himself over to the Ferris Wheel, arriving there first and exhaling a long sigh. They were making a grave mistake and he knew it. Dalton wouldn't say he was "in touch" with spirits or with the town in any extreme way, but when there was negative energy he was certain that he could feel it. Sure there was anything that screamed stay away, but there was something there. Of course, he'd keep that to himself. His friends already found his stories silly enough. And if not silly they were simply a source of entertainment.

He let the toothpick drop from his mouth onto the gravel beneath his feet, obscuring it in the dirt before looking up and waiting patiently for the group to arrive. Dalton planned to take the reigns, put himself in the leadership position. But he was sure this would be a point of contention amongst them. Dalton wasn't exactly the best choice of leader.

llie's phone buzzed as she made her way from one of the food stands with a soda in one hand and a funnel cake in the other. Classic fair food. She held her soda in the crook of her arm and balanced her plate on her hand so the other was free to read the message she had received. She slipped her phone back into her pocket as she set off towards the Ferris Wheel.

Her mind raced as she thought about the events of last week. It was a stupid dare, Cameron was supposed to come back. Sure, he might have gotten in trouble, but she never thought that he was just going to disappear. It felt wrong. She wasn't going to lie to herself and say she wasn't scared about what they were doing tonight. A sense of foreboding washed over her as she grew closer to the Ferris Wheel. She bit her bottom lip and pushed the sense out of her mind. Surely something wouldn't happen to all of them. Right?

She wasn't too confident in that, but she didn't want to freak out. Her height gave her an advantage and she easily spotted Dalton in the crowd and walked towards him. She was never one to brush off his stories as she was a staunch believer in ghosts and the fact that there was more to their world than meets the eye. However, that didn't make her feel any more comfortable about what they were going to do later. She was never a strict rule-follower, but she never considered that she would be someone who broke curfew at the fair.

She gave Dalton a half-smile. While she was always glad to see her friends, she knew that tonight wouldn't just be a fun night at the fair like it was in years past. "Hey," she greeted as she stopped in front of him. She took a sip of her soda as she waited for the others to arrive.

Feeling her phone buzz in her pocket, Miriam simply patted at the jean jacket and continued walking. She knew it was Dalton, given how he was. Her other hand was holding a 'mega-jumbo' sized soda, though it was filled with lemonade instead. She had already gulped down an entire Sprite, and got a refill. Unhealthy? Insanely. Didn't help she had scarfed down a funnel cake right before ordering her drink, but hey! It was a fair, and that's what you do at these things.

As she crunched over the haphazardly thrown straw, Miriam was careful to not let her mind wander. So Cameron was missing, had been missing for a while now. The police didn't really have anything yet, so the only reasonable thing to do was look themselves. At first, Miriam had been all for the idea. Spooky fair at night when all the lights were off and no one was around? Uh, hell yeah. It was perfect for some creepily aesthetic shots, and she loved the entire vibe of it.

But as she slurped her lemonade and watched her boots as she walked, she was growing a bit unsure of it all. Normally, she was down to do just about anything. Literally anything, as long as it wasn't like, murder. Yet, something about this gave her weird vibes. Nothing like this had happened to her friend group before, and she wasn't sure with how to deal with it all. Normally she loved reading about spooky disappearance stories on the news, but this was suddenly personal to her. She had stakes in the matter.

Finally looking up from her boots, Miriam noticed both Dalton and Ellie. Of course Dalton had been the first to arrive, being the paranoid king he was. Kicking up some straw, she picked up the pace and soon approached the two with a signature lazy grin. Raising one finger up, she took a rather loud and long sip of her lemonade.

"Alright losers, what's up? Looks like someone pissed in your drink," she jested, nudging an elbow into Dalton's side. She then did a little head nod to Ellie, as a way of saying 'sup.'

[div class=tag]outfit[/div] here. plus. [/div] [/div] [/div] [div class=right] [div class=scroll] On the other side of the fairground, at a balloon popping game, Magdelina Flores was winning herself something nice.
One shot. One shot was all she needed. "Come on Maggie!!" Said girl bit her lip to stop from smirking. Or talking. Boy was she glad the game runner asked her name. It was just- lovely, hearing your name screamed at the top of someone's lungs in a slowly dissipating fairground. He was doing incredible work. "One more balloon for the big prize Maggie!! Let's see it!" Truly.
The metal dart was heavy in her hand for the few seconds before she raised it, but she knew she had this in the bag. Eyes on the red balloon in front of her and breaths even, she let the dart fly right for her target.
POP.

Maggie fist-pumped the air a couple of times and shook her behind for a moment longer in celebration. She brought her attention to the runner when he belted again, with a slight laugh. "Congratulations! Take your pick! Go ahead!" The runner waited expectantly for Maggie to point out her favorite of the large animals. He collected the darts off the wall to throw into a bunch of buckets, all the while still managing to keep direct eye contact with Maggie. Her smile faltered for just a moment before she released a nervous laugh. Frankly, it was creepy. Though she supposed the dude was probably just as high on adrenaline as she was. With a shake of her head, "Alright, alright~," she tilted her head up to survey the plush beasts and was quick to find her favorite.
"I'll take the sloth, thankyou."

With a giant furry sloth almost the size of her under the left arm, a bottle of water in her right hand and her canvas bag over her right shoulder, Maggie made her way towards- well- she didn't really know. She was walking aimlessly, not really seeking anything for now. Surely three soft things and a couple of plastic dollar store toys were enough for the night. She looked about for a place to stop and quickly spotted a meek wooden bench by a dead patch of grass. She recognized it as the popcorn stand's final resting place before his owner wheeled him away. With a slight shrug, she took herself over.
Maggie sat her sloth down beside her so he could lean on her side, the one litre water bottle between his legs. She let her bag fall from her shoulder to make a plop on the grass in front of her. Its contents rattled in protest, which brought her attention to them. She hadn't had the time to inspect her newest little trinkets. "Let's have a looksie~ shall we....." She began by randomly selecting what looked like a blue toy car, wrapped in red plastic. Her head tilted to one side. "That's....new...." It was cheap, but, cute. She was ready to open the packaging when her phone lit up from in her bag. It's notification tone rang out once. An e minor piano chord.
Now otherwise engaged, she swapped the car for her phone. It brightened again with a press of a button for her to read Dalton's message, and the girl's brows furrowed. What incredible wording Dalton. Of course, her reason for being here had not completely slipped her mind. Hence all the distraction's she had given herself since arriving. The time, however, had. Her eyes flit to the time in front of her, brows furrowing further. It wasn't long now before she'd be with all the others. Discussing a plan of action to find Cameron again. How she wished she could delay it.
Cameron. She'd been thinking about him all week. Such a stupid dare. It was such a stupid dare! He'd just gone and done it and Maggie walked away from it too. She wouldn't do it, so why let him? He wasn't anywhere and it scared her. As much as she tried to assure herself every fibre of her being shook at the awful scenarios her mind made up. He could be stuck in a ditch somewhere, kidnapped- maybe he broke his leg- maybe the idiot found a road and decided to hitchhike and now he's stuck at a station without phone battery or a way home- maybe he's dead-
Maggie tasked her own thoughts and physically shook her head of the thought. She wished she hadn't agreed to this shit. There was no way. For all they knew, he was camping and trying to wait out the group as long as he could. He was fine, and tonight's plan would be successful. After quickly typing in her password, she typed a reply to Dalton's message.
I'll be with ya soon.
She didn't discard her phone straight away. Instead, she opened her mother's messages and typed another quick and simple message. She did the same for her father, in case they weren't together, before shutting the phone up and releasing a light sigh. Her head dropped a little as she thought over the day's events fondly. She'd had a good time. It was just a shame it had all lead to tonight.
Maggie put her phone back in her bag, ran a hand through her hair and got back to lightly inspecting the things in her bag. Beside her, the sloth plush began to fall forward and she reacted with eyes wide.
"Shit!"
Her reflexes were quick enough to grab both him and the water bottle, but that came with the cost of dropping her phone.
Right onto a stray rock.
Maggie's breathing stopped for a moment upon hearing a light crack. She winced too, immediately fearing the worst. Carefully, she put her sloth and water in a stable position so she could lean down and pick up her phone. She turned it over and lit its screen up. Any number of people could have heard her exclamation.
"OH WHAT THE HELL!!"

Maeve wasn't the biggest fan of the county fair, she didn't hate it but she didn't get as excited for the fair while growing up but if her friends wanted to go and mess around, she would join them in a heartbeat and make sure that no one did something stupid that could get them in trouble.

She thought this year's fair would be just like the past ones, she and her friends messing around, trying to win prizes on the games and just enjoy their time together, she wasn't expecting at all that one of them would disappear after a stupid dare. Maeve wasn't a believer in ghosts or paranormal things so she didn't believe any of the stories about Midnight but she didn't want to believe that it could be a coincidence the disappearance of Cameron to what everyone said about the curfew of the fair. She blamed herself for not trying enough to stop them, but since she didn't believe any of that she just thought it would end in a horrible prank and then they would laugh about it.

As she made her way around the fair Maeve only saw the happy families and teenagers that were having a good time on the fair, she asked herself if any of them have noticed that Cameron was missing or if they knew and decided to move on with their life since he didn't follow the rule of the curfew. But she couldn't find an answer to that question.

Just as she finished to buy a corndog and a soda she heard the sound of her phone that showed that she received a message, she stopped to see it and she wasn't surprised that it was for Dalton, she appreciated the boy a lot but sometimes his paranoid could be a little bit overwhelming but at least someone was logic enough to come with a plan and not let a group of teenagers just mess around after curfew.

She was going to head towards the Ferris wheel and make sure that Dalton wasn't going to freak out, even more, when she saw someone familiar that just saved everything that she was holding, except for her phone. Maeve got closer to Maggie to see if everything was okay "This one of the reasons why I always have an eye on you to prevent this kind of things, you should have told me that you were on your own and I could have come with you instead" she said to the girl as she took a bite of her corndog "I'm heading to the Ferris wheel, you know how paranoid Dalton gets and it's better if we are there before he freaks out"

Bridgette
After spending almost the entire day at the fair with her younger siblings, Bridgette thought that they'd be happy to let her go do her own thing for the evening. She supposed she should have known better, considering everything they'd been through. They were a little attached to her, being the oldest sibling still around. She didn't mind that, she just knew that tonight her youngers couldn't be around.

After getting them ready for bed and settled-- at least for the most part-- Bridgette managed to get back out of the house. Her aunt was there if anything were to happen, so Bridgette didn't feel completely bad for leaving them. Still, she whispered a quick blessing over her shoulder as she left, hesitating only momentarily before heading back off to the fair.

Things were still in full swing when she got there, despite curfew being close. She read Dalton's text with a slight smile, sensing his apprehension through the message. Sliding her phone back into her pocket, she headed for the ferris wheel, spotting her friends almost instantly.

"That looks amazing!" Bridgette eyed Ellie's funnel cake. "I'm gonna have to get one of those, I swear." Despite being new, Bridgette felt accepted amongst her new group of friends, and for that she was grateful. Looking up at Miriam, and then finally at Dalton, she pursed her lips just slightly. She hadn't really been that close with Cameron, but she knew him and knew of the dare. She'd been around for it, and laughed along with everyone else.

Til he disappeared, of course.

"Anyone having second thoughts?"

A loud wheeze could be heard as Ray's jalopy pulled into the parking lot of the Midnight County Fair, finally rolling to a stop. The car visibly shuddered as Ray removed his keys from the ignition with a grumble of annoyance escaping under his breath. Ray sighed. It would be a miracle if his car started up again that night. Stuffing his keys in the pocket of his work vest, he reached for his phone from the cupholder, sure that someone had texted him. He was running late. Damn coworkers. Dalton's name was the first to appear as expected. Ah right, the whole purpose of why he was even here so close to curfew. On a usual night after work, he may have gone home to sleep, tired from working all morning at the garage and at the convenience store in the afternoon. Or perhaps having a little fun at whatever party was going on that night with some of his friends, making a fool of himself, getting high. Man would that be fun! Ray shook his head. No, this was important.

Cameron Boyle was missing. Rather that was what everybody was saying. Ray shook his head; he couldn't—no wouldn't—believe it. They were definitely the daredevils of the bunch, Cam somehow being the ballsier of the two. The dares were always harmless, ah mostly harmless. The worst being broken bones, concussions, but no one disappeared...or died. He shivered. 'Let's not think about that...' Ray quickly stepped out of the car and slammed the door, making his car rock back and forth. Ouch, maybe he shouldn't be so rough; the door fell off last time he did that.

Oh right, it was time to get going. He quickly patted his pockets, making sure his goodies were all there. Sneaking a couple of snacks wasn't very difficult in a convenience store that was always empty with a poor surveillance system. Twizzlers for Dalton, several Chupa Chups for Maggie, and Hi-Chew for himself. Of course, Ray still had a bunch of other little candies on him with the constant need to snack hanging over his head. He popped a cherry Hi-Chew into his mouth and made his merry way towards the Ferris wheel.

The fair was packed with people, ages young and old, unsurprisingly as it was the last night the fair would be in town. Ray himself would have been one of these happy-go-lucky people if it weren't for the plan. 'Shit gotta stop thinkin' that somethin' is gonna happen to us. We'll be fine.' Ray reassured himself, moving along and waving hi to some people. He smiled, though only to hide the nervousness clawing at his gut. Nothing was going to go wrong.

"OH WHAT THE HELL!!"

Oops. Maybe he spoke too soon.

Ray laughed to himself, that definitely sounded like Maggie. It also definitely sounded like quite the predicament. He walked towards the scene of the outcry, spotting a mildly pissed off Maggie and worried Maeve. It seemed at the scene of the accident, the stuffed sloth and waterbottle survived, but there was one casualty, Maggie's phone. Ouch. Damn if it was himself, there was no way he could buy a new one, maybe replace the screen, but still. Maeve appeared to be giving Maggie a lecture, being the mom friend of the group.

"Hey mom, you lecturing again?" Ray said, laughing to himself. He patted her on the shoulder before looking to Maggie. He winced dramatically, whistling. "Yikes, that doesn't look so pretty Mags," Ray said, shaking his head. An idea suddenly popped into his head. An attempt to make the best out an unfortunate situation. "Oh! I got something that'll make you feel a little better," Ray started. "Remember when I asked if anyone wanted snacks, well I got you, dude." He suddenly whipped out several Chupa Chups, carrying a wide variety of the flavored lollipops in the pockets of his work vest. Oh, he forgot to take it off, but it was probably a good thing, being able to carry all these treats on him. Ray motioned for her to take one. "For you."

Ray suddenly went to check the time, taking a quick glance at his grandfather's watch. Was it already that time? "Yo, when you're done mourning your phone, we should probably meet up with Dalton and the others before he gets his panties in a twist," Ray said with his signature smirk. He grabbed another Hi-Chew from his stash. 'Hopefully,' he thought, popping it into his mouth, 'my stash will last through whatever we get into tonight.'

[div class=tag]outfit[/div] here. plus. [/div] [/div] [/div] [div class=right] [div class=scroll] With a slightly overdramatic cry of anguish, Maggie held her phone to her chest and looked up at the sky.
"Thankyou!" It's no guess who she was "thanking". She inspected her phone for the second time, almost as if by now it'd have mended itself. To no avail. Replacing it wouldn't be a problem. Not for her. But that didn't mean she going to. Unless her parents insisted, she'd make herself live with it.
"Nope. You're replacing the screen idjit."
She closed her eyes again, muttering and breathing a heavy sigh, when Maeve made her presence known.
She didn't expect to see her, but, she was glad she was. If there was anybody who could keep Maggie from causing her phone to turn out worse, it was Maeve. Maggie appreciated her caring nature. She envied it too. It came much easier to Maeve than it did to herself.....the two being almost complete opposites. She didn't know how Maeve put up with her.
Maggie blinked her puppy dog eyes open, looking guilty. She nodded her head gently, eyes moving back to the phone in her lap. She bit her lip, waiting for Maeve to finish her mini-lecture before she looked up at her with a tiny smile.
"Yeah, mum, I know......hi" She teased, though she made it clear she understood. "I don't know- I guess I just needed some time alone...." her mind wandered for a moment as Maeve took a bite of her fair-centric food, though she quickly came back to attention.
"You're right." She clicked her phone open with a small laugh, to check the time, flinching at the crack, as well as the time. She hadn't realized just how long she had been sitting there. "By the time we get there, he'll be ordering everyone home. DJ worries more than I do sometimes."
Maggie stood up slowly, careful not to let her lucky sloth fall to his death, and began readying herself to go. "Nice corndog by the way....." She turned around to face Maeve again, "Hey, do you think-", though stopped when she watched Ray walk up from behind Maeve. For a moment, her smile widened, till he made his point. She bit her lip and took the opportunity to hold up her phone and show him the damage. With a nod and then a shake of her head at his dramatization, she got back to getting her bag over her shoulder and the sloth under her arm. Her phone slipped safely into her back pocket. "Hey Ray Ray." Another friend she was glad to see. Of course, she'd be happy when she saw all the rest of them -who wouldn't- but Ray had a certain cheekiness about him that Maggie loved. And for another thing, he was still wearing his work vest. She'd get to be the first to get to tease him about it. "Yeah, I do?" She had all her things on her short person when she turned to Ray and Maeve again with bright eyes for his collection of lollipops. She smiled with a little jump on the spot. "Yes!"
She leaned forward and took a watermelon chup gently. Easy to spot considering they were the only ones she ate. "Thank ya kindly~ I'm destroying this later." Her bag slipped open wide enough so she could plop the confectionary inside and wide enough so she could spot one of her winnings again. She was immediately sticking her hand inside again. It came back out with a stuffed bunny clasped in it, only for her phone to go off. She stuffed it back in quickly and took her phone from her back pocket with a frown. her mother texted back, but with a shattered screen she could hardly make out the message under her notification. She was definitely getting it fixed.
She made to open her phone again, with intent to read the message properly, when ray spoke up again about her moving on. A glance at the time confirmed his thoughts so she stuffed her phone back in her pocket with a playful roll of her eyes and stood to attention. She would read the message in time. "Yep," she glanced at Maeve. "We've gone over that~." She hoisted her sloth up a little for comfort and started to move passed Maeve. [br[[/br] "Oh before I forget." Maggie quickly pulled out her last two winnings with a knowing smile. "I'm not particularly fond of these....but you guys...." She held out a grey stuffed Koala towards Maeve and a pure white Bunny towards Ray.
"For you~."
When they took the treasured pets, she perked up and started off towards the wheel slowly, walking backwards, eager to see their reactions to their gifts but equally as eager to get to the wheel.

Beck hadn't been into this high school teen drama from the start, but, it beat staying in with his parents while they bickered and silently resented each other. And so, he found himself skating towards the smell of popcorn and hot dogs, the cool evening breeze brushing past over face and rippling his plaid shirt. He travelled smoothly down the center of the road, knowing that no one would be taking their car to the fair. The walking home and talking bullshit about the whole experience was a part of the tradition. Beck had never been involved in town events, and he had been intensely aware of that his whole life. Every year, his classmates would buzz over the rides and the hoop games and bottle tossing. He didn't know what it was like to be involved, and he didn't want to. Or, at least, that was what he told himself, to avoid the crippling disappointment of missing out.

As he approached the thinning crowd, Beck jumped off of his board and shoved it below the straps of his backpack. He felt his face turn red as he passed all the happy families, eating candy floss and playing games. He shook his head, trying to ignore their blatant happiness, and focused on his destination. Dalton had kindly mentioned that the group would be meeting at 11 at the ferris wheel, and although Beck had hated the idea, he knew he had to be there. Cameron's disappearance had been weighing on him like a boulder. He had been one of the main instigators of the idea to sneak in after midnight, and he felt the guilt deeply, so much so that he hadn't gotten any sleep. But more than that, Beck wanted to know what was truly going on at the fair, even if it did strike a sense of fear and unsteadiness straight into his core. Still, he was closing in on the ferris wheel, and just ahead of him, he saw Ray, Maeve and Maggie, three people who he knew disliked him. There was something about people's disapproval that only made Beck want to irritate them more. He didn't want to waste energy proving them wrong, and besides, he didn't blame them. He wasn't so sure he liked himself anymore.

Beck didn't catch up to the trio, but instead took a shortcut behind the waltzer and arrived at the ferris wheel, where Dalton, Bridgette, Ellie and Miriam stood, looking like Midnight's very own Mystery Inc.

"What's up, D-Bag?" Beck patted Dalton on the shoulder and grinned teasingly at him. He passed his eyes and the grin over to Miriam, who looked stylish as ever.
Ellie was less inclined to enjoy his jokes and so he nodded with a simple, "Hey, El." He knew that she wasn't exactly his number one fan. Bridgette looked ditsy as ever, and Beck felt the rush of a joke coming, but he let it slide. He'd have all night to annoy her. If they didn't all go missing.
Beck pulled himself up onto the fence just in front of the ferris wheel and took a seat, folding his arms over his chest. "So are we gonna Scooby Doo this whole thing or are we taking a more Goonie's vibe?" Beck tried to be sarcastic, but even he sounded slightly wobbly, worried for what the night might bring.

Raising her thumb up to chew on, Miriam shot Beck a grin as he clapped Dalton on the shoulder and gleefully referred to him as a douche. Even if you weren't technically supposed to pick favorites out of your friends, Miriam definitely had a few. Beck was up there, along with Dalton and Ellie. (Ray was there too, but for different reasons that mostly involved playing pranks on him.) Removing her nail from between her teeth, Miriam replaced it with her straw as she took a loud sip. An 'aaah' followed as she pushed herself off the railing.

"If we're gonna be the Goonies, I call being Sloth. I've really been working on my," she paused, lowing her straw from her lips before bellowing out a loud, "HEY YOU GUYS!" A fit of giggles followed after, and she raised the straw back up to her mouth to chew on it. Apparently she was done drinking, and more interested in chewing on something.

"But for real, what's the actual plan Dalton? If we're being honest, I'd probably prefer the Scooby-Doo route just because everything tends to wrap itself up in a neat little bow. Also, I totally have some Scooby snacks, if you're catching my drift," she added, before letting out another loud snicker. Miriam was anything but subtle when it came to her jokes, and she mostly found the most enjoyment in them majority of the time.

"Also, I know I'm talking way too much, but where is everyone else? We've been waiting for a good bit, and I'm probably gonna piss myself if I take another sip of my drink out of boredom," she complained, before pointedly taking a sip of her lemonade with a wink. It was very attractive, just kidding. Miriam hated silence when it came to social situations, so she tried to keep the vibe light with jokes. If no one else was going to talk, then she was just going to chatter, chatter, chatter.

As she spoke, Miriam moved back towards the fence and hauled herself up next to Beck. Holding her drink out, she placed it into his lap before he could even take it so she had both hands for support. A moment later, and there was a rhythmic clank as she swung her booted feet back and forth against the metal.

"Sup, Bitch."

"Sup, bitch," Ellie greeted as Miriam approached. She mimicked Miriam's head nod as she said this as her hands were full. It's how she greeted her brother and most of her friends. She wouldn't greet Bridgette like this just yet, she wasn't close enough with her yet to know if it was okay, so she greeted her with a smile and another nod of her head. She didn't want to accidentally upset her, so she was playing it safe until she learns what her boundaries are.

Ellie held out the funnel cake towards Bridgette. "Take some! I don't think I'd be able to finish it without some help" she offered with a smile. Her smile faded when Bridgette mentioned having second thoughts. The answer was complicated for her and it was something she was tossing around in her head. "I mean I don't want to do this, but I think we have to. Or at least I have to," she stated. She felt intensely guilty for her role in Cameron's disappearance. Ellie has always been a very sensitive kid, but it worked both ways. She was hyper aware of how she treated others as a result of being so effected by how people treated her. Sometimes her friends would joke that she had a guilt complex.

She nodded towards Beck as he arrived. She had a hard time with him sometimes but now with everything that's happened, that doesn't matter much to her right now. They needed to stick together and figure everything out together and not waste time being annoyed or angry with each other. "I hope it's Scooby Doo. You all know my childhood dream was to be a part of the Scooby Gang. Plus, I've never seen the Goonies," she stated. "Oh, I'm always down for Scooby snacks," she laughed.

Ellie really didn't know how she was feeling. She sighed and finished off her soda, tossing her cup into the nearby trashcan. She sat on the ground with her back to the fence that Beck and Miriam were sitting on. She picked at her funnel cake and looked up toward Miriam. "Hopefully they will be here soon. I'm just anxious about tonight," she responded.

Bridgette
She didn't know what made her ask the question. Perhaps it was the silence that had fallen over the group for a second, or perhaps it was her own curiosity. Either way, the question was out-- no taking it back now. Bridgette knew she was the newbie of the group, still not completely settled into her own space within the friends, but she wanted to know how they felt.

Beck appeared, and she felt a flash of annoyance. He seemed to love to torment her, though she gathered that she wasn't the only one. He didn't say anything to her, but their eyes met for a moment before he pulled himself up onto the fence. Not even daring to try and follow his example, knowing she'd end up overshooting and hitting the ground, she instead followed Ellie's example and sat in front of the fence.

Taking the girl up on her invitation to help with the funnel cake with a small smile and a "thanks," she tore a piece off and munched on it quietly. Curfew was drawing nearer, and she could tell people were starting to leave the carnival faster, trying to avoid being out after midnight. A slow chill crept down Bridgette's spine, but she didn't move from her position beside Ellie.

"We got this." She spoke out loud after a few moments, tilting her head so that she could see most of them, a slightly sheepish look on her face. "I have to admit, I've never seen the Goonies either. Scooby doo is a classic, though!"

Dalton had a decidedly unimpressed expression on his face. His friends trickled in slowly, slower than he'd like really. It was giving him anxiety to have to wait for so long. Though as he double-checked his phone, he realized it had only been a few minutes. Being the one to take things much too seriously was what Dalton was known for. Elle and Miriam were the first two to make their way over. Dalton nodded in greeting before cringing at the loud slurping noises that Miriam was making with her lemonade. Honestly, he didn't even know it was possible to slurp so loudly. Was this a new pet peeve of his? Regardless, he didn't bother entertaining her crude comment about him looking like someone pissed in his drink. She knew why he was acting this way, there was no point in cramping her style of keeping calm.

Bridgette arrived next, eyeing Elle's funnel cake with interest. Dalton had to admit, he'd eyed it as well. Normally he thoroughly enjoyed funnel cakes, but the worry and nerves were making him feel so sick to his stomach. He hadn't eaten all day, and perhaps even longer than that. Coupled with the lack of sleep everything seemed to be blending together. He wanted to laugh and joke around with his friends, but the heaviness of what they were doing weighed too much on his heart. His grandmother would be so disappointed in him.

"Anyone having second thoughts?"

Dalton shot a sharp glance at Bridgette, disproval twisting his features. "We cannot afford to have second thoughts. Even if we are having them, what are we going to do? We can't just leave." He crossed his arms and shrugged his shoulders a bit. Maybe he too doomed and gloomed. Cameron could be just pranking them or hiding out in the park or something. Sure it was unlikely, but it was still a possibility. But Dalton felt that his pessimism would be more helpful than optimism and cheer. It'd make them be more careful. If anything happened to anyone in the group, Dalton felt like it would be his own fault.

His overthinking was interrupted by a firm pat on his shoulder and the courteous greeting of D-Bag. With a sharp jab into Beck's side, Dalton shook his head and stepped back a bit to give himself more space.

"Fuck off, Beck. You're the douche," he greeted in return, his words harsh but his tone light. It was just how his friendship was with Beck. Lighthearted insults tossed back and forth at one another, neither taking the other's words to heart. "Goonies or Scooby-Doo? Is there really a negligible difference between the two? Honestly, I haven't seen either of them. I guess that makes me worse than Bridgette. Let's go with Scooby-Doo. That way Mir never attempts that 'hey you guys' thing ever again. I think I'm suffering from secondhand embarrassment now."

Dalton dug into his pockets, retrieving a small notepad with a pen threaded the coils at the top. He'd made a couple of notes before he arrived today, vague plans and a sensible outline of rules. Someone had to do it at least. They couldn't rush into such a dangerous situation so blind. Well... at least what Dalton thought was going to be a precarious situation. He wasn't going to reveal them quite yet, preferring to wait tensely until the others arrive so that there would be no need to repeat himself. That didn't stop him from showing the notepad to his friends right now, though.

"They should be here soon, but I will admit I'm growing antsy as well. I have some ideas for what we need to do tonight written in here. Along with some rules. Rules are an unfortunate necessity."

Maeve rolled her eyes playfully at Maggie calling her mom but still felt worried when she admitted she needed some time for herself, she understood what Maggie was going through the disappearance of Cameron was something the group of friends weren't expecting.

The voice of Ray took her out of her thoughts "I'm not lecturing anyone" she said to him ignoring the fact that he also call her mom, a nickname that she was more than used to due to her protective personality towards her friends.

Maeve understood what Maggie wanted even if she didn't finish her sentence "Here have some, I'm full already" she said to the girl as she offered what was left of her corndog.

Maeve started walking towards the ferris wheel when she was stopped by the voice of Maggie and started talking about the prices she won, Maggie gave her the grey koala and Maeve couldn't hide her smile while seeing the stuffed animal, she loved Koalas more than anything "This is extremely adorable, thank you Maggie" she said to the girl. "We should get going now or the others are going to kill us from being late" she said as she started making again her way towards the ferris wheel

It didn't take her a lot to get to the ferris wheel and saw the other who seemed they were waiting for them "Sorry guys we have a little problem on our way her but nothing to worry about, so what's your plan Dalton? Knowing you, I'm sure you had everything planned already and what everyone should do and shouldn't do" she said to the boy.
