about
roles
rules
sheet
hollywood.

it's the home to several stars, people who shine in the limelight and who spent most of their lives working hard to be recognised for their various talents.

of course, not all of them worked hard, but there's a lot behind the scenes that most others don't know. all the lies, drama and angst seen on the big screen don't exist just there. in a world full of celebrities, there's always jealousy, backstabbing, and shady business.

in this story, we'll get to experience all of that and much more. we'll follow a group of hollywood celebrities attending a rather memorable party, going on a retreat where each of them will be out of their element, being drafted for a project that involves them all, and suddenly becoming suspects to an accident that is later revealed to be a murder.

you've got to pay a price to get to the top.

the question is, are you ready to do whatever it takes?

and more importantly, can you keep up with the life you've been handed once you get there?

i guess we'll soon find out who breaks first.
this roleplay does not have any set roles. there are, however, 3 - 5 available slots (how many people i pick depends on the number of applications). those interested can put in an application and create any kind of character you want as long as they fit in with the story — they've got to be a celebrity of some sort, or tied into the lives of celebrities.

you have the normal actors, actresses, singers and models. but you also have directors, screenwriters, executive producers, and song writers. i definitely will not say no to going with any of the first four, but please keep in mind that i won't be choosing characters that only fit into the first four.

i want some diversity because that will largely influence the plot, so go crazy! introduce as much drama and angst as you want in their lives as long as you don't make them perfect characters. thinking that your actor got his way to the top by sleeping around? sure! maybe a super hard working director who's now changed by the fame? go for it. i'm looking for unique characters that can all bring something different to the table!

in the end, i will choose those that fit the story the best, and i won't decide till the end whether i'm taking on 3 or 5 characters, aside from my own. please keep in mind, however, that in the end, there will be an equal number of males and females.

if you have any questions about what is and isn't allowed, feel free to ask! also, keep in mind that you are no way limited to the occupations i mentioned above. i just listed those because they were at the top of my head. feel free to go any way you want to if you think of something else!
RULE ONE. all rpn rules and regulations apply! please also respect what i say, in terms of the story and major decision making. i want to give everyone creative freedom, but there will be certain things i'll have to control to help keep the story moving.

RULE TWO. as already mentioned, there is no role system, however available slots are not first come first serve. there will be a thread put up for people to put in their applications, and after the deadline passes, characters best suited to the story will be selected! you are free to make characters of any gender but i will ultimately be keeping genders equal which means 2/3 males and 2/3 females.

RULE THREE. realistic face claims only! please try and keep characters diverse. nobody's perfect, and everyone has flaws, especially this bunch. and like i said, i want different characters. it's no fun if everyone's an actor/actress/singer. there are tons of other occupations in hollywood that could just as easily boost someone to stardom.

RULE FOUR. when it comes to writing, i'm looking for quality over quantity, but there also needs to be something we all can work with, so around 500 words per post, or more, would be excellent.

RULE FIVE. a discord server will be created for ooc once characters are accepted so you'll need a discord account in order to be a part of this roleplay.

RULE SIX. i intend for this to be long term, so i would prefer people only join if they know they can commit. i will be expecting one reply a week, at the very least, but more is always welcome, and i value communication, so please tell me if anything's wrong or if you need to take leave. i'll understand, and i can't help you out with an issue if i don't know what's happening.

RULE SEVEN. not so much a rule, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

height
five feet & two inches.

weight
eighty six pounds.

eyes
callie has lovely, baby blue eyes, much like her father.

hair
as with everyone else in the family, callie has dark brown hair, though it is a shade so dark it nearly looks black. her hair is usually known to be messy, bangs covering her forehead and often her eyes as well. she likes it that way.

body
callie has inherited the lanky frame that both her parents have, but while they've become more toned over the years, callie remains on the skinny side.

signature style
callie has a very unique style, given her occupation. while she is more inclined to classical music, her attire can best be described as a cross between grunge and bohemian. the gallery at the end gives a good idea of the types of clothes she wears on a daily basis.

modifications
callie's ears are pierced twice each and she has one small tattoo on the inside of her wrist, depicting a base clef. it's kind of an inside joke.

scars / blemishes
a few minor scars from reckless incidents — she's often got her head in the clouds, listening to the music around her, so naturally, callie bumps into things a lot, and let's not get into how many times she's tripped and fallen over.

how did you rise to fame?
my talent. i've always just been really good with instruments, and i've been forming melodies in my head since i was old enough to know what a melody even was. i know people say i'm a prodigy, or whatever, but i think some people are just born with music in their blood. i feel like that, like i was born to make music, and that's all i've ever done. admittedly, my last name probably helped my rise to the top, but i like to think i have some valued talent, given that i pursued a completely different field, compared to the rest of my family. i mean, enough talent to win an academy award for best original score i gyess?

what is your biggest ambition, at the moment?
to conduct for the new york philharmonic. not like, as a permanent position, but it is something i would love to experience. i'd maybe also like to start being recognised as my own person along the way.

what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
making music, though that's something i do for a living as well and i get the feeling that you were looking for a different answer. uhh... i like watching movies a lot. more specifically, i find a director's style that i like and watch pretty much every movie by them. at the moment it's brian de palma, since i just watched scarface.

what are you currently struggling with the most? don't worry, nobody will read these interview questions.
honestly? i don't like the fact that people keep referring to me as 'joel henrdicks' daughter' or 'axl hendricks' sister'. i'm my own person with my own accomplishments, and i'd like to be recognised for that. it's why i don't use my last name professionally. i'm still trying to build a rapport, clearly.

what's your biggest fear?
i don't actually know. i have several minor fears of course — spiders, tight spaces. i haven't thought much about what my biggest fear would be, but i think maybe never being the best that i can be? i've worked hard to reach where i am today, and i know there's still a lot of room for growth. i guess i'm always worried about never reaching my full potential, especially with the pressure i face in literally every direction.

can you tell us a little about your family?
i get asked way too many questions about my family on a daily basis so sure, why not answer one more? you probably know all of them. both my parents were singers. my dad was in a band, my mom went solo, they collaborated for a song and according to them, it was love at first sight. anyway, not long after that, axl came into the picture, and then stevie, and then me. we've all been pretty musically inclined — i mean, my parents gave all their kids middle names referencing famous rockstars so would anyone really expect otherwise? i love my family, and we all get along, but i just have a different taste in music compared to them. there's no bad blood in the family. i just would prefer it if people stopped seeing me as 'the black sheep' or as a simple extension of my family instead of my own person.

do you have any other significant relationships in your life that we should know about?
not really. i mean i've been on a couple of dates, but i haven't had any long standing relationships yet. i'm not actively seeking one either. if it happens, it happens. i'm open to whatever comes my way, with whoever comes my way, as long as it feels comfortable for both parties involved. i don't really have any significant non-romantic relationships in my life either, at the moment.

what would you say to the youngsters out there aspiring to be just like you?
be yourself. if people don't like you for who you are, then they're not worth keeping around. don't let anyone dim your shine, or this world will be a boring place. and god knows we can't survive that.

what is more important: appearance, recognition or money?
i believe there are much more important things than those three, but if i had to choose then i'd say recognition. and by recognition, i mean credit. people work hard for what they do and what they share with the world. it's only fair that the world knows who's sharing that work with them.

when faced with bad publicity, rumours or online scandals, what's the first thing you do?
if needed, make a statement. there are some things that can be brushed off, and some that shouldn't be. but the more you try to fight things, the more things people begin to point out and it just gets very messy. raise your voice, but know when to stop. that's the rule i tryt o live by, anyway.

on that note, what's the worst, most scandalous thing someone said about you online or in the news? both true and untrue, please.
untrue? that i was adopted. or, more specifically, that my parents paid off some musical prodigy who's name is sealed, so they could have some 'variety' in the family. i mean, the stuff people come up with is ridiculous. as for true... i mean, yes, i did have a brief fling with a guy nearly twelve years older than me, but i don't see how that's anyone's business. i just loved his connection to music. and no, i can't name him.

if you could dabble in any other field in hollywood, what would it be and why?
aw man, i've always wanted to get behind a camera. i consider myself an amateur photographer but i'm fascinated by directors and cinematographers and how they make scenes speak volumes in a matter of seconds. it's beautiful.

lastly, if you were on live tv right now, what's the one thing you'd want to say? who are you directing it at?
i'm callie joan, i've won a fucking oscar and it's not for playing rock music. and i'm saying that to all the people out there who think i rose to fame because of my last name. screw you and your mantels that lack an academy award.

life in america
the downfall.

Returning home from America after his movie finished had always been on his mind. However, there was one thing that loomed over his head; military service. He was at the age now where he had no choice to participate in it. And well… he was scared. He was so freaking scared. Mainly of guns. With both his parents being killed by guns, the last thing he wanted to do was to learn how to use one.

So, he did the most selfish thing he could think of. He decided he was going to revoke his citizenship so he wouldn’t have to do his service. Well, no, he didn’t tell anyone that. He just told people that he wanted to live in America once more, like the good old days as a child. But deep down to the core, he feared for his life. It was his reaction to a fight or flight situation.

He had tried in the past to get himself exempt by getting multiple tattoos (as the government doesn’t allow those with large tattoos into the military, concerned that it would link to gangs and offend others). Alas, that didn’t work. So this was his only option. And it worked. In fact, it worked too well. And now he was banned from the place he called home.

He hadn’t thought things through. And because of that, guilt began to eat away his spirit. On the outside while in the public eye, he was shown as this sweet, boyfriend aesthetic actor and singer. However, behind closed doors, he can think of nothing better than drinking his weight in alcohol and trying whatever drug he can in hopes that he can start to feel some sort of happiness in his life again.
the rise of fame
will be his downfall.
Until I find another dose
I won't make it on my own
how did you rise to fame?
I’ve been working in the industry since I was seven years old. Prior to that, I had been living in Chicago with my family for six years. Coming back to Korea, I managed to land a re-occurring role in a popular K-Drama. It was that after that role, the ball continued to roll. I was picked up for more shows and started modelling. From when I was fifteen until I was twenty-three, I released some singles – mainly for promotions. So, I’ve always been fairly popular in Korea because of it.

In America, however, I didn’t really “rise to fame” until I came over for a role in a movie last year. I worked with Scarlett Johansson and Brad Pitt and it was sort of like over night I became this… just… big movie star, I suppose? It’s so surreal.

what is your biggest ambition, at the moment?
My biggest ambition… would have to be… I would love to be able to move my whole family to America. I know it’s impossible due to certain situations happening back home. But I really miss my family, and not being able to see them has been… really hard on me mentally, I suppose.

what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
To be honest, I don't get much downtime. I feel like I'm always working or I'm always attending some event. But when I do happen to have some alone time, I like to just sit at home and watch Netflix. I'm watching a couple of documentaries at the moment which was great.

what are you currently struggling with the most? don't worry, nobody will read these interview questions.
I suppose… when I feel lonely. I feel lonely a lot. Even when I’m surrounded by so many people. I just… I don’t feel like I’m there. Alcohol helps, I suppose. And so does… well, never mind. I don’t want to seem like some sort of Hollywood star that ends up in rehab or something stupid like that, you know?

what's your biggest fear?
That I’ll never see my family again. And also guns... I... I even hate using them on set. Even if they're fake.

can you tell us a little about your family?
I have an older sister, Amber, and an younger sister, April. My Umma and Appa died when I was around… six years old. They were both shot dead during a mass shooting while they were out one night on a date. Because of it, my grandparents took us all in which is why we moved from Chicago back to Korea. My grandparents lived on a farm just near Busan and they raised us very well. They weren’t very rich, but they supported our dreams. My Grandmother was the reason why I got into acting in the first place, and they really supported my ambitions. I love them with all my heart and I would do anything for them. However, they all live in Busan still. So… seeing them has been… difficult.

do you have any other significant relationships in your life that we should know about?
I don’t have any significant others in my life. I only recently made the decision to move to America and so… I haven’t really had a chance to establish any friendships with people.

what would you say to the youngsters out there aspiring to be just like you?
I’d say… make sure you stay true to yourself. And to make sure not to do stupid things because stupid things can lead to a life of regret.

what is more important: appearance, recognition or money?
Recognition. At the end of the day, after you die, what are people going to talk about the most? About how handsome you are, or how much money you have? No, they’re going to talk about what impact you left on this Earth and all the other accomplishments you have in life.

when faced with bad publicity, rumours or online scandals, what's the first thing you do?
I run straight to my personal assistant. Haha. I try not to get into any scandals and stuff, but… at the end of the day, I’m only human. I make mistakes. And sadly, I don’t really think before I act out on my emotions. My personal assistant has been amazing at keeping things on the down-low and stopping press from releasing some damaging things.

on that note, what's the worst, most scandalous thing someone said about you online or in the news? both true and untrue, please.
So… I suppose I should talk about the elephant in the room, right? When I moved to America, I gave up my Korean citizenship. Because of that, I became exempt from mandatory military service. And because of it, I’ve been banned from entering South Korea by the Ministry of Justice. A lot of people online have started to say that I gave up my citizenship to avoid my military service time, or that I moved over because I got a girl pregnant here. It can… it can be very stressful when people make assumptions, you know?

if you could dabble in any other field in hollywood, what would it be and why?
I wouldn’t mind being a photographer or director. I have my own camera and I try to take as much footage as possible so I can share behind the scenes footage with my fans. However, sometimes I don’t have enough time for it and the footage ends up being months old before it’s released.

lastly, if you were on live tv right now, what's the one thing you'd want to say? who are you directing it at?
I’d… want to tell my family that I was sorry… and that… I loved them. Love them so much. And I’m trying everything I can to find a way to them. If it means having to go through a long legal battle or making enough money for them to fly out and live here, I’m willing to do that.

hair
She wears her hair in braids these days, with some blonde and dark red extentions. Her natural hair is dark brown/black, long and curly.

body
Short, slim but curvy.

signature style
In her regular day-to-day life, Clara favours comfort over fashion, but still manages to look pretty stylish. She usually wears jeans and t-shirts, sometimes dresses or shirts. She loves croptops and hoodies. She has a rather large collection of band-tees (and hoodies), and other graphic shirts. She always wear her Doctor Marten boots or sandals, so much that on her last tour, her and the crew had a joke that she should be sponsored by them. (Joke’s on them, because they contacted her for an ad campain and she is now one of the biggest faces for Doc Martens)

On stage her outfits are flashier, but still rock’n’roll. Her manager and stylist prefers her to wear all black, usually something bordering on lingerie, with dark black make-up. If she had is her was, she would just wear whatever, but she has a brand now, and needs to follow it.

Clara has a slight limp due to an injury on-stage a few years ago. She fell off the stage and dislocated her knee and broke her leg. She also broke a few ribs and got a concussion, but they healed up easily.

IN DEPTH
how did you rise to fame?
When I was out of college, I moved to L.A. with my college band, The Storm Clouds, trying to make it. I worked as a barista at day and played gigs with my band at night. One night, there was a talent scout, who gave us their card! Before we knew it, we were signed with a label.
At first it was great. Recording our album, going on talkshows and opening for some pretty big acts. The album was doing great, but soon the label wanted us to change, they wanted different songs, different wardrobe, and the label favoured me as the “face” of the band, even though me and the band had wanted to do it all together. Before I knew it, I was going on tv-appearences alone, and I’m ashamed to say I let it get to my head. The rest of the band felt left out and ignored, and our second album tanked because of it. We went on a nearly sold out tour across the US, but sadly, it didn’t get great reviews. The band was fighting a lot, jealousy and bitterness taking over what this experience was supposed to be. All we wanted to do was play music for people, why did this change?

As you can probably guess, the band broke up.
At age 23, I was devastated. I felt alone, and started partying to fill the void. Within a short while, I was known as a typical L.A. party-girl. I drank too much, did too many drugs, and spent too many mornings hungover. I was really down, man, and I was actually considering moving back to San Fransicso to pursue a master’s degree. I was basically ready to start packing, when one of my old bandmates called me up to meet for coffee.
It was Sierra! Sierra missed writing and composing, and wanted to partner up again. But this time, she wanted me to have the spotlight. I was already fairly known, and Sierra didn’t care for performing, or being in the public’s eye. I excidedly agreed, and we moved in together (temporarly) and started working on a new album. With a new voice, and a new sound, Clara Storm had been created. She sang songs of feminism, anti-establishment, and sisterhood. Sierra and I agreed we needed something more “mainstream”, to please the label, and wrote a few lovesongs, even using some of my old poems from college. Sierra and I went to the label, had meetings with agents and managers, and soon had auditions for a new band. The label loved the new music, and the PR-train started up again. With my rock music, my image of a “party girl” actually kind of helped the sales, but I did need to slow down the partying if I wanted to be a serious musician. Sierra managed the band, I was the name and face, and I basically got everything I ever wanted. Clara Storm was rising to the top. I was ready for it.

what is your biggest ambition, at the moment?
This is still pretty early, but I am in the process of writing a book. I write on the road, when I’m in hair and make-up, when I get home and after I wake up. My book is inspired by a story I wrote when I was 14, and follows the life of a teenage girl who’s in foster care.

I also dream of going on a world tour, which my agent says won’t be for a while. I have to have at least two new bestselling albums for the label to want to send me on an international tour. Basically, I have to be a complete star, and as of right now, half of the population thinks I’m a spoiled L.A. drug addict. I was going to have to work hard to redeem myself if I wanted mainstream fame.

what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I actually really enjoy reading, especially re-reading the Harry Potter books. I also love baking, and usually I bring baked goods for recording sessions and practices with the band. When possible, I like to go home and visit my family. Even though I’m trying to get a more serious image, I will never say no to a good party. I just love letting loose that way.

what are you currently struggling with the most? don't worry, nobody will read these interview questions.
Honestly, I’m struggling for the business to take me seriously. When I first started out, I just wanted to be big and play my music, and I would do basically anything for that to happen. But I realized that it didn’t make me happy, it just gave me a big head. So now I’m trying it my way, which is definitely a lot harder.

what's your biggest fear?
A few years ago I fell off the stage and got hurt pretty badly. Now I’m super scared of that happebing again. It gave me stagefright for a while, actually. I could fall off and crack my head open, you know? What a horrible way to go! I’m also terribly scared of heights in general.

can you tell us a little about your family?
Well, as most people know, I was raised in the foster system. My parents left me at a hospital when I was almost 6 months old. I was in various foster homes until I was 12, some good, some really, really bad. When I was 12 I got a new family, and they actually adopted me for my 14th birthday! I have three brothers and a sister, and two moms. Throughout my early childhood I did whatever I could to stay at school longer so I didn’t have to go home to my foster parents’ houses - they were basically strangers, after all. It resulted in me doing a lot of extracurriculars. Debate, school council, choir, band, and spanish club were my favourites.
Wait, what was the question?
My family, yeah. My moms are great, one's a teacher and one's a lawyer. They always welcomed me as one of their own - all their children are adopted, some since they were babies. It’s a happy home. I also have a niece and a nephew - I love visiting them.
I could talk about my family for a long time, man, maybe we should continue?

do you have any other significant relationships in your life that we should know about?
If that’s your way of asking if I’m single, then no. The most significant person in my life right now is my manager and co-writer, Sierra. We went to Sarah Lawrence together, so we’ve known each other for almost ten years now! She’s my rock. My sister, actually. Well, not by blood or by paper. But you know.

what would you say to the youngsters out there aspiring to be just like you?
Uh, I guess I would say to be you. Life’s not worth being anyone else, you know? I learned that the hard way at the start of my carreer. No matter what you do, you have to be able to stand by yourself. I sound like a lifetime movie.
And have fun! Have so much fun! That’s what I’m focusing on now - being happy, having positive influences around me, and focusing on the fun part of life!

what is more important: appearance, recognition or money?
Recognition, I suppose. I’m an artist, after all. I love playing music, but it’s even better when I know people love my music. Playing for a crowd, whether small and intimate, or a sold-out stadium, is my favourite thing. But in this world, money means everything, too. It’s a nice perk.

when faced with bad publicity, rumours or online scandals, what's the first thing you do?
I call my publicist, Angela. She conferences in Sierra. We look at the damage, htye come up with a plan while I panic. Then the family group-chat lights up, asking if it’s true that I’m dating Ed Sheeran, or that I was in the hospital because I OD’ed on coke. It’s usually not true, by the way. I’ve never OD’ed. So don’t worry about that, haha.

on that note, what's the worst, most scandalous thing someone said about you online or in the news? both true and untrue, please.
When the Storm Clouds were on tour, someone leaked a photo of me freaking out at a crewmember, and every tabloid did a whole thing about me being a diva. That was pretty tough. The crewmember had forgotten to plug in my guitar, and being stressed and all, I definitely overreacted. But the picture started a lot of rumours about me. You’ve heard them. “Clara and the Storm Clouds - what’s in their green room?” (According to TMZ it was weed and exclusively red skittles), but all the rumours about how much of a diva I was actually cost us interviews, sales, magazine features. People were scared to work with me because they believed I was impossible to work with. I mean, it wasn’t all a lie, and I did apologize to the crewmember for the whole thing, but it hurt that people would just believe these things about me. There was even a rumour that I was having an affair with a married actor! I was portrayed in the media as a horrible person.

if you could dabble in any other field in hollywood, what would it be and why?
I would actually love to try out directing! I’m a pretty bossy person, and did some theatre in college. I think I’d be great at it, to be honest. Or producing music. Maybe when I get older I’ll do that.

lastly, if you were on live tv right now, what's the one thing you'd want to say? who are you directing it at?
This is direceted to, well, everyone. Don’t believe everything you see on tv or in the magazines, man. I know I’m not perfect, but come on. Why would I try to trademark my hairstyle? That’s insane.

ectomorph — noemi holds herself to the same standards she does her models, and she has the signature long legs and slim figure to fit.

sig. style
noemi is known for only wearing incredibly high-end fashion, including many from her own line. most of her outfits are bold, geometric, avant-garde statement pieces, and if not monochrome, in subtle or natural hues. when it comes to formal events, noemi is always one to make waves: she has quite a penchant for luxe gowns that could only be described as haute-couture.

brand brief
newmaker was the child of noemi's desire to have clothes that she actually wanted to wear. from a young age, she was teeming with ideas, and she couldn't bear to keep them inside her head. newmaker is now one of the leading avant-garde streetwear and formalwear lines, and it's founder, noemi burgess-ames, has styled some of hollywood's biggest. it's known as one of the pioneering heads of the fashion industry and prides itself in making each and every one of its hand-sewn garments right in la.
how did you rise to fame?

❝ i think to think that us, as humans, have complete domain over ourselves and subsequently our choices, but if i really knew that, i would be a philosopher, wouldn't i? ❞ [noemi smirks.] ❝ in it's simplest form, i took action and decided to make myself a name. whether it was my destiny or not is for anyone to speculate. if i were to get into specifics i think we'd both be here for quite a bit. ❞

what is your biggest ambition at the moment?

❝ from a young age, i've had a rather clear picture of what i'd like to do, and that is simply what my mind desires me to do in the moment. it seems for these past years my mind has been stuck on the idea of growing my brand, so that's what i'm set out to do. oh, and i'd like to live the best life someone of my nature possibly can. ❞

what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

❝ for me, there is no such thing as free time. when my mind is idle, which it rarely is, it busies itself with the nuances of design and creativity. ❞ [noemi pauses, smiles.] ❝ i like to paint, and exercising isn't that much of a pain either. ❞

what are you currently struggling with the most? don't worry, nobody will read these interview questions.

❝ non-disclosure agreements are lovely little things, are they not? with all due honesty, i'm not immune to guilt, and sometimes i wonder if i deserve my name. otherwise, it's just hard to keep everything under the table when the things i need to keep under said table are the size of a house. ❞

can you tell us a little about your family?

[brief silence.] ❝ the only person i consider family at this point in time is my sister, monika. i don't talk to my parents jonn or elisa anymore, since they seem to not understand that sacrifices must be made for glory. monika is tolerable, and i still live with her today. ❞

do you have any other significant relationships in your life that we should know about?

❝ is this about fritz? it seems that in whatever world this city lives in two people of opposing genders can't only be platonically involved. ❞ [noemi glares at the interviewer.] ❝ yes, he worked for me. yes, i kissed him. no, we are not in any way, shape, or form, together in a romantic fashion, and i have since ceased all contact with him. ❞

what would you say to the youngsters out there aspiring to be just like you?

❝ do what you have to do, no matter what that may be, and never hesitate. hesitation is suicide. ❞

what is more important: appearance, recognition, or money?

❝ the people who ask such questions don't think about the answers themselves. all of them are intertwined and while they're quite inseparable, i must choose appearance. you can be recognized and make money with a poor appearance, but ultimately, a good appearance is what perpetuates them. ❞

when faced with bad publicity, rumours, or online scandals, what's the first thing you do?

❝ if i were somewhat of a better person, it's likely that i just wouldn't do anything. sadly, i'm not, as i'm sure you've guessed, and i have a bit of a tendency to get rather wound up when faced with such a dilemma. usually i'll just respond to it directly, something that, well, hasn't always played in my favor. ❞

on that note, what's the worst, most scandalous thing someone said about you online or in the news? both true and untrue, please.

[noemi clears her throat.] ❝ there's been quite a lot. this isn't, per se, the worst, but i can't quite shake people criticizing my appearance. it's quite crude, honestly. there's a reason i'm not a model. regardless, for the truth — most certainly the rumours regarding fritz and i. the fact that it's true doesn't make hearing about my rejection easier. and false? that i strip for ceos to get them to take my line. i'm not a saint, but i'm not a penny whore either. well, in this case it'd be hundred-thousand whore. is that a thing? ❞

if you could dabble in any other field in hollywood, what would it be and why?

❝ easily makeup. my hands aren't nearly as skilled as they'd need to be, but i have clear visions for what i want with each of my outfits, and being able to execute that myself would be rather nice. ❞

lastly, if you were on live tv right now, what's the one thing you'd like to say? who are you directing it at?

❝ i'd like to say... you don't have to be good to be remembered as good. ❞ [noemi smiles.] ❝ and that's for everyone. grab your destiny by the throat and make it yours. ❞

how did you rise to fame?
"well. it, um, wasn't as easy as everybody makes it look. one of my friends, back home, she wanted to be a photographer — and i, a model. so we kinda recruited each other for practice, and i decided to send some of those pictures to modeling agencies both in paris and the united states. it took me around five months or so to hear back from any of them, and then i decided to make the move to los angeles, where i signed to wilhelmina models. things have been nothing but up, at least as i perceive it, ever since then."
what is your biggest ambition, at the moment?
"i've always wanted to have something to really call my own. whether that be a clothing line, a book, something... i've always desired having something that i can proudly say i created."
what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
"i enjoy writing, whether it be poetry or short little stories. i hang out with my dog, theo, all the time, and i also enjoy playing the piano. sometimes i'll party, but it's not my favorite thing in the world."
what are you currently struggling with the most? don't worry, nobody will read these interview questions.
"could my own mind be an appropriate answer? besides that, well, i suppose my issues with my own self worth is a struggle. like i said, i want something to call my own. i haven't gotten that yet."
what's your biggest fear?
"everything i've worked for just... being gone in a flash. and being outed against my own accord. i want it to be my decision when that secret is out."
can you tell us a little about your family?
"sure. my father, abernathy, he's a bookstore owner back in montpellier, and my mother, julia, she's a receptionist for a law office in town. i have a younger brother, his name is victor, and he's currently studying at the university of paris."
do you have any other significant relationships in your life that we should know about?
"only past ones. i don't have eyes on anyone as of right now, but who knows. that could possibly change. but, my first, and only, boyfriend, lucas, he's a doll. we still talk sometimes. you said these questions won't be read by anyone, right?"
what would you say to the youngsters out there aspiring to be just like you?
"i'd just say to always fight for what you've worked hard for. whether it be for credit or recognition, if you have something you're passionate about, never stop fighting until your voice is heard or your hard work is recognized."
what is more important: appearance, recognition or money?
"most definitely appearance. you could be the most recognized and wealthy person in the world, but if you're known for nothing but horrible things, then what's the point?"
when faced with bad publicity, rumours or online scandals, what's the first thing you do?
"there are some things that i can ignore, whether that would be petty drama or blatantly untrue rumors, but then there are some things i cannot. i normally try to come out and explain the situation, or at least, the situation as i see it, and some people will believe me, some won't."
on that note, what's the worst, most scandalous thing someone said about you online or in the news? both true and untrue, please.
"oh, we're getting into the juicy secrets already? for untrue, i went to an after-party for new york fashion week about two years ago, i believe, and so many rumors spread around that i slept with this one singer — we were apparently seen 'getting cozy' during the whole event, but nothing happened. and for true, well, a story came out that i was seen on a date with a man, which was definitely true, but i couldn't just come out and say that i'm gay. i just said that it was a dinner with a friend."
if you could dabble in any other field in hollywood, what would it be and why?
"ooh, i'd love to be a designer. see, i love modeling clothes, but being able to design them and show them off to the world would be beautiful. or possibly an actor, but i feel like that's such a hard skill to have and be amazing at."
lastly, if you were on live tv right now, what's the one thing you'd want to say? who are you directing it at?
"i'd tell my brother to stay in school and don't run off to the states like i did. but i'd also thank my parents for allowing me to live out the craziest fantasy i've ever had."
headcanons.
+ born and raised in montpellier, france, briar is fluent in both english and french. he moved to the united states when he was twenty years old.
+ lucas is the only person briar has ever really dated, and they both have an agreement to not discuss the relationship they once had.
+ briar is, intellectually, rather bright, but can be a little bit oblivious at times.
+ he's terrified of coming out, even though he knows the secret will be revealed at some point.
+ besides his dog, theo, he has a sphinx cat named ginger.
+ briar wishes to be known for something more than his pretty face, despite him knowing that that might possibly never happen.
+ his little brother is his best friend, and he wishes that he could see him more often.
father.
abernathy marseille. bookstore owner. abernathy and briar have a rather good relationship, and briar tries to talk to his dad as much as possible.
mother.
julia marseille. receptionist. julia and briar's relationship is a little rocky, but still strong. briar always tries to call her on sunday afternoons — when he's not busy — so the two can talk.
brother.
victor marseille. student. briar and victor's relationship is very much a typical sibling relationship, but briar doesn't mind. he loves his little brother to death.

age (22 - 28): 25

gender: Male

sexuality: Bisexual

d.o.b: April 14

p.o.b: Owasso, Oklahoma

ethnicity: German and Polish on Dad's side. Purely Mexican on Mom's side.

citizenship: American

occupation: Comedian

"Like what you see? There's more where that comes from."

height: 6'0

weight: 180

eyes: brown

hair: brown

body: Lean. Pretty athletic. I've always been very into physical activities and am a boxer and soccer player.

signature style: I has a very simple style. I'm normally found in sweatshirts and jeans - again, looking for something relatable to my fans. If it's too warm for a sweatshirt, I often wear flannels. When at home or relaxing in public, I dress in basketball shorts and t-shirts, often getting mistaken for some random dad than a famous comedian.

ailments (physical and mental, if any): Anxiety, Asthma

modifications: a simple black piercing in my right ear

scars/blemishes: I got a scar over my right cheek one and a longer one on my right calf. A couple pale freckles.

face claim: Ryan Guzman

"A deeper look? If you're sure..."

how did you rise to fame?

"To be honest? I... really don't know. My brother got me to do some stuff at our middle school talent show. Then we started a YouTube channel. He was the tech guy and I was apparently the funny guy and somehow I ended up here. Sorry it's not an exciting story."

what is your biggest ambition, at the moment?

"To see how far I can go. I was a nerd in school. I was a dorky, awkward teenager that had very few friends, and now I have a million people that want to see what I can do. If I made it from Nobody to Somebody, I want to see what else I can do."

what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

"Video games. Cooking. Visiting my home. Fun fact: I have really good night vision so sometimes I walk around in the dark house to mess with my friends if I'm spending the night with them. Otherwise I'm pretty lame."

what are you currently struggling with the most? don't worry, nobody will read these interview questions.

"Oh, gosh. I was kinda hoping these questions would be easy." Nervous chuckle. "Anxiety, I guess. Never gets any easier, whether it's going in front of a sold out crowd or trying to text my manager."

what's your biggest fear?

"Really getting deep here, huh? Well I guess I gotta say that my biggest fear is people finding out I'm a faker. Scandalous, I know. Yeah, sure, actors are literally paid to be fake, but my whole charm is being honest and genuine, and I think I am on stage... but I'm kinda a faker when it comes to the whole Hollywood thing. I'm not as cutthroat and ambitious as a lot of these people. I don't belong here and I don't want people to realize that."

can you tell us a little about your family?

"I don't come with a tragic backstory included. My family was always pretty nice. My mom was born and raised a farm girl in Minnesota, moved to Minnesota for work when she was 23. My dad was born in Mexico, came to the States sometime in his teens. He doesn't talk much about the time before he met my mom. There's seven of us kids. Ronnie, Rebecca, me, Rico, Raimundo, Riley, and Rosie. A couple nieces and nephews. One of my cousins lived with us for a couple years when I was a kid. It was always a pretty loud house... Am I just rambling now or is this all important information?"

do you have any other significant relationships in your life that we should know about?

"My dog. His name is Jasper. I also dated this girl in sixth grade because she gave me her yogurt cup at lunch. We never officially broke up, but last I heard she was doing great for herself and had no need for a guy like me."

what would you say to the youngsters out there aspiring to be just like you?

"People wanna be like me? Well, I'd say skip the whole part of life that I didn't enjoy and just jump right to the 'making videos of you being you' part. So many kids - myself included - are afraid to be themselves and you never know. Sometimes people like the real you a lot more than the persona you take on."

what is more important: appearance, recognition or money?

"Recognition, I'd say. Or money. One of the two. I don't know. I always faded into the background. That was great when I knew that people would make fun of me if I was noticed, but now I'm loved. I can't get enough and having people recognize me suddenly energizes me instead of striking fear into my heart. But at the same time, I grew up... not rich, but not poor either. It's just nice to have enough that you don't need to worry about money and you can buy some nice things for people that deserve it... It's also nice to have a big house."

when faced with bad publicity, rumours or online scandals, what's the first thing you do?

"Well, first, I try to avoid getting myself into scandals. Scandals can be good for the celebrities that get their fame that way, but there's nothing good that can come from it for a comedian like me. I usually call my sister if something does pop up though. I'm clueless when it comes to the internet, so she figures things out with my manager."

on that note, what's the worst, most scandalous thing someone said about you online or in the news? both true and untrue, please.

"For true, I guess it's gotta be when I ended up in jail. I used to be involved in an illegal fighting ring and we got busted one night. It was a... dark time in my life and I wasn't fully in the spotlight yet, so I guess that's why it was something that my publicist could make just disappear for me. For something that's untrue, I guess it's when it was said that I was caught in an affair with a girl from back home. I did go on a date with her, but neither of us was in a relationship at that point and nothing ever came from it."

if you could dabble in any other field in hollywood, what would it be and why?

"An actor, I guess. I've been trying to weasel my way in that direction for a while now. I've always just been fascinated at the idea of trying to become someone else. I did a lot of that for fun at the grocery store I worked at in high school. Made up different identities and had some fun. Until my manager caught on and told me I had to be Rhys Barca. Not quite as fun."

lastly, if you were on live tv right now, what's the one thing you'd want to say? who are you directing it at?

"To those people that terrorized me growing up, I just want them to know that I did what they feared. I embraced myself and made a name for myself."

Tabitha

Angels fall in to save my soul
Sorry, Absinthe, you're much too slow
All that glitters and all that glows
Will find a way in as soon as I go

name
Tabitha Grimes

age
27

gender
Female

sexuality
Lesbian

occupation
Costume Designer

eye color
Brown

haircolor
Red

Who Am I?

background

Tabitha is difficult to work with, she's stubborn, she doesn't take criticism well, she doesn't like working with other people. But she's incredibly talented, the best in the business, they say, which is why she's the most sought after costume designer in Hollywood. She hates working with actresses most of all, the ones who say her costumes don't fit them properly. They don't fit because you told me you had a 26 inch waist when you clearly don't, sweetheart. She worked hard to get where she was, designing for shitty Off-Broadway plays and musicals during her college and early years, paying for material out of her own pocket, having her portfolio past over again and again.

But now she was in Hollywood, she could pick and choose which projects she worked for.

Tabitha has made it and she will not let anyone get in her way.

likes

Tabitha likes her privacy, she lives a long and it'll take a very persuasive person to make her change her living arrangements or her secretive work ethic. She loves to work on period pieces, epics set during the Roman Empire, romantic drama in Victorian London, tragedies in war torn lands. What she wants is to make enough money to retire by the time she's fifty.

dislikes

She doesn't like people. That much must be obvious by now. She doesn't like people who are in her way, she works with a small team who know how to handle her - at a distance - everyone else is a headache. Speaking of headaches, she suffers from migraines, this slows her down and it drives her absolutely insane.

strengths

Tabitha's work ethic is envied by everyone in the business. She can create costumes after one read of a script and will argue with any director who disagrees with her costume choices. Not only is she an excellent designer, she is a master seamstress and has no problem with repairing her own work.

weaknesses

Does a serious cocaine habit count? It's not an addiction, Tabitha is not a addict, she just has a habit which keeps her going when she has a deadline to finish. She also has a weakness for charming women. What? Women are amazing.

how did you rise to fame?
❝ God, what a generic question; But I guess it started when I was a kid. When I listened to my mp3 player - or my godfather would blast old time music through the house - I would have just these vivid daydreams inspired from those songs. Then as I grew older, those daydreams turned into stories that I wrote in the middle of maths class and then by the time I reached university, I had turned those dreams into screenplays. One of our assignments was to create a pitch for the film we wrote, I was so inspired I decided to give a shot with an actual production company. Before I even had a chance to blink, A24 gave me a contract. ❞

what is your biggest ambition, at the moment?
❝ I'm currently planning my next major film. I've been doing music videos and some short films in between to keep me inspired, but I'm finalising all the paperwork and being involved with a lot of business meetings at the moment. Although, I'd love to try to direct a big superhero blockbuster - but it's a ragtag gang of women instead. I think that would be absolutely brilliant. ❞

what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
❝ I spend a lot of time reading in my apartment, finding ideas and inspirations. I'm also trying to take more time out for myself to explore, visit art galleries and small downtown cafes to relax in. Working on films are a major commitment and as much as I love to be constantly working on projects that inspire me, I still have to take breaks to keep that creativity running. Otherwise I'll end up as one of those same-trick pony directors, and that's not what I want. ❞

what are you currently struggling with the most? don't worry, nobody will read these interview questions.
❝ Truthfully? I'm finding that I am struggling with the pressure of fame that came with being a director. It was such whiplash going from a student in university to a somebody; I'm finding my balance but there are moments where I really do find myself questioning everything. Not that I'm not grateful! I'm appreciative of the opportunities, but finding sincerity in such insincere crowd is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. ❞

what's your biggest fear?
❝ I'm very scared of being a one-trick pony when it comes to directing. I love being artistic with my films, the crazier the better, but I don't want to become predictable. I'm also very scared of being in front of the camera, interviews and talk-shows make me want to throw up and cry. I'm extremely too awkward for all of that, I just want to do what I love. ❞

can you tell us a little about your family?
❝ Don't you have wikipedia for that? But um, my parents did die in a car crash when I was young, super young that I really don't remember much of it anymore. I moved to Los Angeles and with my godparents and my older brother but we really see them as mom and dad. My dad - Oliver - runs a youth theatre company here in Hollywood; Then my mother - Lily - works as a high school music teacher. My older brother, Ted is actually my manager, since he's already got a degree in entertainment law. They're all pretty artistic themselves, with my older brother actually being my partner-in-crime with my films. We're like a dynamic duo, although we do argue quite a bit sometimes. ❞

do you have any other significant relationships in your life that we should know about?
❝ Does my saint bernard, Ziggy, count? Otherwise, no. I haven't really had a chance to date and such, I sort of gave all of that up when I decided to become a director. The whole university experience and such, I probably should go back and finish my degree at some point, right? ❞

what would you say to the youngsters out there aspiring to be just like you?
❝ Skip to your own beat, your life is your own film so make it whatever you'd like. Don't let others tell you what you can and can't do, you are your own creative visionary and just be kind to one another, we need more of it in this world. Oh god, it sounds like I'm promoting being a criminal; Don't do serious crimes! ❞

what is more important: appearance, recognition or money?
❝ Recognition, especially since we live in a world that people are still waiting for credit that's so overdue to them. Those talents should be praised and cared for, not to be ignored for surface level looks. A lot of people judge me for how I dress, where I come from and what I look like; It's hard, but you just have to work through it and prove 'em wrong.❞

when faced with bad publicity, rumours or online scandals, what's the first thing you do?
❝ Cry? I'm joking- I swear I don't cry. Usually I go to my older brother for support, he helps me get through the rough times. Or if they're something unbelievable and strange, I'll post them on twitter and laugh about them with everyone online. Laughter is always the best medicine. ❞

on that note, what's the worst, most scandalous thing someone said about you online or in the news? both true and untrue, please.
❝ A lot of people thought I was dating one of the founders from A24 - Daniel, which wasn't true at all. We actually met at one of the film nights my campus was holding and he was there as a visitor, and we'd went on a friendly dinner to discuss my future. I did - however - have a fling with a big time rockstar, but his lifestyle wasn't for me and he was pretty adamant about me being giving up directing so I could go on tour with him. ❞

if you could dabble in any other field in hollywood, what would it be and why?
❝ Hm, probably doing something musically? Or! Even writing my own musical, that would be fun. Maybe even costume design? I'm terrible with a sewing machine so probably not. ❞

lastly, if you were on live tv right now, what's the one thing you'd want to say? who are you directing it at?
❝ Make sure you find something that makes you happy, it's so important to keep it up. Be your absolute self because no one can be quite like you - and hi mom! ❞

". . . your fever dream, can't you see it gettin' closer? just surrender 'cause you feel the feelin' take you over ! . . ."

IN DEPTH

". . . it's fire, it's freedom, it's flooding open, it's the preacher in the pulpit and you're blind in motion . . ."

how did you rise to fame?

"I worked my way to the top through auditions and references until I was recruited for my first Broadway show as Fantine for the Les Miserables musical. After my performance there, my popularity as a musical Broadway actor grew."

" . . . there's somethin' breakin' at the brick that's holdin' all that you know, so tell me do you wanna go ? . . ."

what is your biggest ambition, at the moment?

"My biggest ambition? On the stage, to become known as one of the best musical actors in Broadway history."

" . . . where it's colored in all the colored lights ? where the runaways are running the night ? impossible comes true, it's taking over you . . ."

what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

"I enjoy reading and spending time with my dogs Chupa and Cabra. We enjoy going on little hunts when hiking, like I used to in the old days."

" . . . oh, this is the greatest show ! . . ."

what are you currently struggling with the most? don't worry, nobody will read these interview questions.

"How do I know that you won't reveal these to the public? . . . Oh, alright. That makes sense, I suppose that works. Fine. I struggle waking up every day and never knowing where my family's killer is. I fight every day wondering if I'll ever find the b*stard, jumping at shadows and having to resort to 'medical' marijuana the doctors say will keep the memories away... it never works for long."

" . . . we light it up, we won't come down, and the sun can't stop us now, watching it come true, it's taking over you, oh, this is the greatest show ! . . . "

what's your biggest fear?

"My greatest fear? Dying without bringing that murderer to justice."

" . . . colossal we come, these renegades in the ring, where the lost get found and they crown 'em the circus kings . . . "

can you tell us a little about your family?

"Well, aren't you insensitive. Oh, you're surprised at this side of me? The Araminta who is acting is very different from this one, I can assure you. But fine, I'll reward your bravery. My family, as you may have surmised, is very much dead. I had two adorable little sisters and an older sister. I lived with my mother after my father's anger issues became too much and they got divorced. Dad decided to go AWOL and mom got a new man. I didn't like him but he wasn't bad for my family either. I was... happy. I thought we could live like that forever . . ."

" . . . don't fight it it's coming for you running at ya, it's only this moment don't care what comes after, it's blinding, outshining everything that you know . . . "

do you have any other significant relationships in your life that we should know about?

"Nothing atypical, a little bit of dating here and there but it never amounted to much. I was either too cold and disappointing or he was overbearing and nosy, usually both."

what would you say to the youngsters out there aspiring to be just like you?

"Don't be like me. Learn from me, study me, but don't ever try to be me. Carve your own path and grow out from my shadow so that you're the one standing in the spotlight."

" . . . oh, this is the greatest show ! . . . "

what is more important: appearance, recognition or money?

"I suppose recognition has been the driving point that skyrocketed my career, but it was never my reason for doing it. When I'm acting, I can pretend... I can imagine a different world..."

" . . . we light it up we won't come down, and the sun can't stop us now, watching it come true, it's taking over you . . . "

when faced with bad publicity, rumors or online scandals, what's the first thing you do?

"I usually ignore it. When it gets to become a problem, there's nothing a bit of cunning maneuvering can't solve. Keep the people on your side and that's all that will matter. People forgive a murder when you donate to some heartbreaking cause, after all. It's how this world works."

" . . . oh, this is the greatest show ! . . . "

on that note, what's the worst, most scandalous thing someone said about you online or in the news? both true and untrue, please.

"True? Someone connected me as the Araminta Alfonso whose parents were brutally murdered and she was determined to be that killer. Yes, I was determined to be the killer, but I didn't do it, first of all. But that someone was quickly shut down from fans due to the past life I'd concocted to cover for it. As for untrue, there were rumors that I was sleeping with directors in order to get a part in the plays. Ridiculous, really. Some people really do have nothing better to do than gossip."

" . . . where it's colored in all the colored lights, where the runaways are running the night, impossible comes true, it's taking over you . . . "

if you could dabble in any other field in hollywood, what would it be and why?

"I suppose I could try to become a singer, or a regular actor. They're more specialized branches of what I already do, but I enjoy my little in-the-middle job."

" . . . oh, this is the greatest show . . . "

lastly, if you were on live tv right now, what's the one thing you'd want to say? who are you directing it at?

"I haven't forgotten you, b*stard. I'll get you for what you did to my family. . . what? you said this wasn't going to be released to the public anyways. It's nice to imagine."

" . . . this is the greatest show . . . "

Persona
Grayson Farrow is a man who knows what he wants and his determination to achieve his goals has never failed to make him enemies. He doesn't like big egos which is hard to avoid in Hollywood but is quick to shut them down. How he is in his work life and personal life is almost indiscernible. A strict and stubborn leader though he isn't as hotheaded when it comes to surrounding himself with family and friends.

Ever since he came back from his break, he's been a lot more calmer when dealing with people though it doesn't stop him from showing annoyance when he feels it. Although his return has also brought back the heat of last year's scandal, he has shown himself to be indifferent. His only concern now is to build his name again as a director.
History
A hotheaded and stubborn young director who spent his early career working to prove his talent despite criticism about his age and experience. His latest film won best picture the past award season, he's now back to film his next movie after taking a break. He respects talent when he sees it, and isn't one to let pride and ego get in the way of his work.

Grayson was dating an A-list actress but that relationship ended in a disaster last year. Tabloids spun the story in her favor, labeling him as a drunkard with anger issues when in reality she had cheated on him with her co-star. Only his closest friends and family believed his side, yet he decided to not let pride and anger get the best of him. He ended up taking a break from the entertainment world after the success of his last film, but now something else calls him back. Whether that's for inspiration or revenge, only time will tell.

Usually right around 150 lbs—he can fluctuate a bit, as he does often skip meals
eyes.
A brilliant, clear shade of emerald green.
hair.
Rich dark brown in color, with a glossy, curly texture.
body.
Slender and thin, with long arms and legs. He's doing his best in his off time to gain some muscle tone and firmness, though.
signature style.
Oh, his wardrobe. He is a lover of fashion, especially the more avant-garde styles mostly seen on the runway. You’ll never see him wearing the same thing twice, and he’s a rotating mannequin of silk, leather, velvet, sequins, sparkles, intricate embroidery, rich colors, and feminine silhouettes. Truly unafraid to try it all and wear it all, his bold persona comes across in his clothing. He also loves jewelry, often sporting statement rings, necklaces, bracelets, you name it. And of course he isn't ever against a bold eyeshadow look or painted nails.
ailments.
Is sort of privately flirting with substance abuse; cocaine has an especially persuasive manner.
modifications.
Has multiple ear piercings in each ear, often sporting small studs and huggies for daily wear. He’ll also sprinkle in the occasional threader or chain if the situation calls for it.
scars/blemishes.
Doesn't have many of any prominence. His skin stays soft and glossy thanks to a very involved, multi-step nightly skincare routine.
face claim.
Harry Styles.
odds & ends

  • He was schooled in an international middle and high school equivalent back in France, so he speaks English with only a very subtle French accent.
  • Has two twin Siamese cats named Barbie and Ken. He claims they know him better than any person ever will.
  • A voracious reader and sharp as a whip, he's brighter than most people assume of him.
  • On top of being a classically trained ballet dancer, Oberon is also a skilled pianist and has maintained it through his adulthood.
  • Doesn't like many sweets: he only likes dark chocolate and fruit, and the occasional pastry (but he's very picky about buying from actual French bakeries).
  • He's a vegetarian for environmental reasons.
  • (That being said, he also owns several real fur coats. And leather shoes and belts, even the odd crocodile or snakeskin piece in there.)
  • He's quite promiscuous.
q&a

how did you rise to fame?
I’m just fantastic at what I do, love! Not to toot my own horn, but wait—I may actually be in the rare position where that’s alright. I was lucky enough to be schooled in art at a very incredible institute in Paris, but I, erm. They didn’t quite like all of my creative directions, which was fine, they're quite conservative, but the rest of the world sure did. After figuring out the whole social media thing and giving a damn about that, I gained a following, and then started selling my paintings—and the rest is history! I’ve got art in the MOMA, the Met, the Guggenheim, the MOCA, and the MCA, darling, I’m it.

what is your biggest ambition, at the moment?
I want to be commissioned to paint a portrait of the President of the United States—not this current President, but perhaps the next one, if they're any better. But, yes. I truly feel like that would be the crown jewel to my career.

what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Not many people know this, but I also practiced ballet for decades! I still dance on occasion—it’s good to stay limber, and it calms me down. I also just adore spin classes and those, ah… Dance cardio! Yes. Those are so much fun. And, of course, I really enjoy hitting up the clubs and dancing the night away. I would say more on that, but I suspect anything else might not be the most appropriate.

what are you currently struggling with the most? don't worry, nobody will read these interview questions.
You’ve really gotten to the sensitive topics quickly, haven’t you? I’d at least like to be wined and dined some more before you make me expose myself, but I suppose… There’s, ah. Quite a lot going on in my life at the moment. I’ve found some difficulty settling down and making quality friends since I moved to Los Angeles. I’m sure they’ll come soon enough, though.

what's your biggest fear?
Here you go again! Hmm. I try not to think of the scary things in life very often, so give me a moment to, hmm… I think being utterly alone would be my greatest fear. I simply adore people and I love always having a friend close by. Couldn’t imagine any kind of life without closeness to other people.

can you tell us a little about your family?
But of course. My darling parents, Henri and Evelyne, raised me in the most beautiful city in the world. I was an only child, but I grew up with lots of other children in the neighborhood, so I never felt too terribly alone. I’m also lucky given that they loved and embraced, well, who I turned out to be—I think they knew early on that I wouldn’t be kicking the football, that's for sure. I've never been.. Er, subtle.

do you have any other significant relationships in your life that we should know about?
Oh, aren’t you a prying one! Sadly, no. I've been told I'm 'too much' by past significant others. The nerve!

what would you say to the youngsters out there aspiring to be just like you?
I know it’s cliche, but practice does make perfect. And don’t take ‘no’ for an answer when you just know you’re at the top of your game—sometimes you do have to insist on your voice getting heard. And, if none of that does the trick, only then resort to oral persuasion. It should be a last ditch effort, always... Oh you said youngsters, didn't you? Merde.

what is more important: appearance, recognition or money?
Oh God, appearance. I’m sure you know as well as anyone who’s much less heard my name that I live to dress to the nines. A mentor once told me that sometimes, if you can’t change your own mindset with good habits and the like, you can by dressing well. Dress good to feel good. It started as therapeutic, and, well, I suppose it still is, to a degree. But I consider it a fun, ongoing sort of challenge now, especially considering I can now afford my very specific tastes.

when faced with bad publicity, rumours or online scandals, what's the first thing you do?
To be quite honest, I would follow up with a friend I go out with to ask if that truly did happen. I’m, ah. A bit prone to forget things that happened when I drink—I’m a bit of a lightweight. But owning up to it and making light of the situation usually solves all problems, right? At least in my experience. I’m not a bad boy, and I don’t get in that much trouble.

on that note, what's the worst, most scandalous thing someone said about you online or in the news? both true and untrue, please.
Oooh. There once was a rumor that I had slept with a professor I had, but that was simply untrue, since she was a, well. A woman. A she! But it launched an entire official investigation since she and I did have a close friendly relationship that bordered on inappropriate. At the time, though, I wasn’t, how you say—out—so that was a rude way to declare my sexuality to the world… And law enforcement. But what they didn’t know is that I was sleeping with the dean of the university at the same time! Ohh. What wild times those were.

if you could dabble in any other field in hollywood, what would it be and why?
I would for sure be a dancer. Though I doubt I’m anywhere close to the dancing shape I used to be in, I would have pursued that more, I think. Dancing is just so..! I love to express myself, and I can do it with my body! Isn’t that lovely? And ballet is just so gorgeous, just so captivating.

lastly, if you were on live tv right now, what's the one thing you'd want to say? who are you directing it at?
To all of my fans out there—I love you all! Thank you for supporting me endlessly and watching my growth as an artist. Stay tuned for some brilliant, beautiful things to come!

Camila is your hot mess friend. The type you love even if she loves trouble, and is a magnet for one. She gets you accustomed to 3am tearful phone calls and 7am texts that she's here to take you to iHOP, whether or not you're still in PJs. Being her friend is exhausting but rewarding at times. As self-centered as she can be, she's loyal to the end and is just as willing to go above and beyond for you in the (much less frequent times) you're in need of some emotional support.

how did you rise to fame?
Hell if I know. Big thank you to Cuco, he's always looking at the lil' artists and he brought me on board for one of his albums. And also, ahh... an old friend, I guess. Long story.
what is your biggest ambition, at the moment?
I want to pay my grandma back for the fuck shit I put her through as a teenager. She doesn't like flashy cars, but I at least want to give her something, a nicer place, a nicer car, some new clothes and self care things. I don't know. I hope she feels my love regardless, though.
what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
... iMessage games, like, seriously. That and swimming or hiking. I have a pair of ratty Vans that I take out to go through this one state park all the time. No one will ever catch me with those on any other time 'cept when I'm getting down and dirty.
what are you currently struggling with the most? don't worry, nobody will read these interview questions.
Improving my brand. Like, getting a whole persona, my own style. I want people to think of me and see a theme or a mood. Right now I feel like every other bland-ass solo artist.
what's your biggest fear?
That everyone is secretly annoyed with me or hates me and just won't say anything because they're too nice.
can you tell us a little about your family?
My mom passed away and my dad's basically dead to me, so that leaves my grandma. She keeps me in line, I love that old fart almost as much as she loves Jesus Christ.
do you have any other significant relationships in your life that we should know about?
Hm... I'd say my ex-best friend, but you just need to know we both raised each other up and brought the other back down. Toxic might describe it well. He got me into music. Not gonna lie, I kinda did him dirty when I went solo.
what would you say to the youngsters out there aspiring to be just like you?
Please don't. Ha! Ah, god, just be careful, kids are so precious. Don't grow up too fast, your time will come, just enjoy your youth.
what is more important: appearance, recognition or money?
Appearance, it can affect both the other two thing to make or break a star.
when faced with bad publicity, rumors or online scandals, what's the first thing you do?
I usually laugh it off unless it's something that doesn't sound crazy. Like especially with dating rumors, it fucks with the actual relationships I'm in. Honestly the first thing I do is go straight to my nana so she doesn't kick my ass after she hears the news.
on that note, what's the worst, most scandalous thing someone said about you online or in the news? both true and untrue, please.
Without specifying which are truth and which are fake? For sure. I dated Johnny Depp's daughter, Lily-Rose, for a minute. Everyone's so ready to try to pin together bisexual artists with every female and they momma. The hiatus I took last year after my tour was for rehab. My pregnancy rumor started 10 months ago and it's still going strong. I got arrested for... public disturbance, I think? The article was pretty vague on the details for that one.
if you could dabble in any other field in hollywood, what would it be and why?
Acting. I feel like anyone would be happy playing pretend.
lastly, if you were on live tv right now, what's the one thing you'd want to say? who are you directing it at?
I know I said I wouldn't talk about my friend, but it's the only thing coming to mind. I'm sorry Jamal.

》 personality

Admittedly, she keeps her friends close and rarely gives anyone else the time of day. Although not quite bitchy, she has a poor moral compass and is willing to do some shady things to get a little sweet petty revenge. Camila is someone who you usually spend your nights with to have a good time, not to wind down. She's never had any other role in the life of her acquaintances, except her mom's and a couple close friends.
She could change, and has a hell of a lot of bad experiences to give her an incentive, but she's comfortable with what she knows---a shallow, high-turnover-rate of a social circle is what she's used to. Carelessness is the norm. Her heartfelt advice for her friends is helpful, but she would never dream of putting it to use herself.

Albeit she has redeeming qualities besides always having an ounce of weed hidden somewhere. Camila is funny and charismatic to those who don't see her as the loud, annoying party girl. She loves to make her friends feel appreciated and (always the one asking for rides and help out of stupid situations), she over-compensates for her instability by offering what little she can to her close friends. She has a certain insecurity about her uselessness when it comes to how much she has to offer. For whatever reason, she needs to be needed, so she maintains a picture of perfection and generosity while constantly teasing her friends... pretending like they don't mean the world to her.

A good personality has never felt like enough and she's always had a touchy, nervous relationship with money. All in all she can be ruthless with her jokes and short temper, but she's well-meaning, even sweet at times, and wants the best for those around her.

》 background

Camila was a mommy's girl. They lived together, just the two of them, in a little midwest suburb. She watched her mom go from job to job, leaving each one behind for a slightly more physically and emotionally demanding one which offered the slightest increase in pay. She couldn't remember her life back in Fresno, California, and her mom stayed quiet about it until she was older. Being a feisty preteen, she constantly asked about her father and blamed her mom for leaving him. At first she explained that it was to get out of a bad city, and that he wouldn't get a job. As the years drew on she learned piece by piece, sometimes understanding based on her mother's careful wording, that he was a violent drug addict, despite how much she obviously loved him.
Her interest in a father figure died by middle school but her other rebellious phases came in and out of their quiet little life. Her mom wanted the best for her, especially as her foreign last name would undoubtedly make it difficult to fill out a job application unless it was padded with a good education and proud references. As much as possible, she more or less grew up as a happy, friendly straight-edge kiddo.

At the age of 43, her mom's old habits came back to haunt her. A stressful, physically demanding job had driven her back to Oxycodone and two years later when she was 15, Camila's boyfriend at the time found her mom in the kitchen, unconscious on the floor. She passed away three hours later.
A long, drawn out process of paperwork and the Children's Division sent her to her paternal grandmother, Isabela, in Fresno. Her dad saw her regularly, even offering her a job helping repair cars, but soon they both lost interest in reconnecting. She watched him cheat his customers all the way into adulthood. As far as she was concerned, he was just her sketchy middle-aged boss that came over to eat dinner with her nana every now and again. He was never unkind or high when she saw him, mellowed out by age, but they were strangers, and Camila hated him for not treating her mom like she deserved.

Her life unraveled without the encouragement and reminder of her mom, but it became easier to think about her and feel more love than sadness. She graduated with a vague interest in music sparked by her friends, but it was almost accidental that she ever took it seriously. A friend needed a female backup for his song, just speaking, and he would edit the audio into his track. Her first appearance in any song ever was, "I'll roll your weed and pull your hair, you need a bitch who really care." She requested the line for a girl she was seeing at the time, and he let Camila have her fun.
The song came out a wreck but it was a different experience entirely to hear her voice played back to her, supported by instrumentals and a flow. She started hanging out with him almost exclusively to make music, sometimes written by her, other times him. They had an on-again-off-again friendship, even dating for a couple months, but their music had ruined any chance for a completely healthy relationship. It was all they could talk about and the stress constantly tore them both down.

After finding a producer that worked with R&B artists, she quickly ghosted out of her best friend's life, for the better. She had mostly been rapping up until this point, but truth be told, it didn't suit her like R&B's smoothness and sensuality did. At this point she blossomed in her career around the time she was 20. At the same time, she was featured in a song by indie artist Cuco, and her popularity skyrocketed enough for her to see the possibility of going on a tour. This happened a year later, but wasn't like anything she expected. It was chaotic and expensive and the profit came in barely more than her sales in digital copies, anyway.
She still lives with her grandmother and has a friendly, if tense, relationship with her and her strong Christian faith. Her grandmother sees the least of her real self, only the occasional smell of marijuana or days spent sleeping until 3PM and coming home at the crack of dawn, exhausted from a show. Isabela is mostly supportive of the... more tasteful lyrics that Camila comes up with, and sees her as the little bird she brought out of her grief to sing.

how did you rise to fame?

---"honestly, i feel like this is the most asked question of my entire life. i was luckily given the power of creativity. my brain doesn't stop and everything that i walk by i can turn into a story. it's a curse and a blessing, really. one day i was just another dork of a teen drawing up super heroes and the next i was sitting at comic con signing autographs for people. okay, okay--fine, the truth is my uncle's dad is related stan lee. yeah, you know the stan lee...so that might have something to do with it."
what is your biggest ambition, at the moment?

---"i am currently working on a concept of a new super being. not exactly a hero, but someone who is trying to be. i hope to really broaden the comic book world with my new character. that's all i can really tell you right now about that. oh! i'd like to try and keep a goldfish alive too, that is pretty high up there on the amibition ladder."
what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

---"animal crossing is a big one for me right now. those fucking nuggets are going to end up killing me. i am well aware that i could cheat and time skip but that just takes the fun out of throwing my switch across the room."
what are you currently struggling with the most?

---"it sounds strange but when i write some of the darker characters, i get so involved that it pulls me into a bad place. heath ledger is a perfect example. you remember how he over dosed after playing the joker? that shit is real, you get so caught up into this character that you truly believe they are you. anyway, i've been taking vicodon for almost two years now...it helps me not feel like i'm slipping away."
what's your biggest fear?

---"well i'm not afraid of dying, i've crossed that point in my life. however, i am afraid of losing my creative thinking ability. life would be really boring if i couldn't bring some light into it."
can you tell us a little about your family?

"i lived a pretty normal life growing up. mom, madeline, and dad, george. i was an only child with an extremely over protective mother but don't get it confused, i am not one of those insane momma's boys. however, i ended up with a sister, gina, when i turned ten. i grew up in a very creative family. dad was a marketing supervisor, mom an art teacher. gina ended up moving to the heart of new york to pursue her graphic design dream."
do you have any other significant relationships in your life that we should know about?

i had a fiance at one point, two years ago to be exact. sammy was her name and i really thought she was the one but that is a whole other story..."
what would you say to the youngsters out there aspiring to be just like you?

---"with great power....nah i'm just kidding. i can't rip that from my uncle stan. i'd say don't be afraid to let that other side of you come out. being normal is boring, being different just makes life better."
what is more important: appearance, recognition or money?

---"have you seen the way i dress? i look like i walked out of a thrift shop so appearance isn't important to me at all. recognition is great but i honestly would rather not be on the front of everyone's morning newspaper. so...i'd have to say money and not in the greedy aspect. you can buy a lot of cool shit with money."
when faced with bad publicity, rumours or online scandals, what's the first thing you do?

---"first, i usually don't leave my condo for about a week. i mentally can't handle the real world in any way. second, i will usually make a character surrounding the scandals. it helps me relax when one of the good guys kicks the shit out of the bad."
on that note, what's the worst, most scandalous thing someone said about you online or in the news? both true and untrue, please.

---"there was a huge rumor at one point where everyone had said that i was having an affair with my sister's husband. it went on for almost a full year, ended with them being divorced over the whole situation. it was completely untrue, my sister's husband was a dick. there was another instance about me sleeping with one of my interns and that was completely true."
if you could dabble in any other field in hollywood, what would it be and why?

---"i would love to be a director. i really think that with my creative nature that i would be great at that sort of thing. i've been on a lot of sets for movies that have brought some of my comics to life. i've seen it happen and i would love to tbe the one calling the shots."
lastly, if you were on live tv right now, what's the one thing you'd want to say? who are you directing it at?

"i'd tell all the other weirdo's like myself to stay true to who you are. one day there might be some crazy apocalypse and everyone will be wanting to be on your side, my friend."

the interview
"how did you rise to fame?" I don't think I ever had much fame. I mean, when I used to model, I got on those "up-and-coming" lists and sh- ...everything. With that and being an actor-in-training, I did have a bit of a following. But, well, I quit way before I actually qualified as famous, so. "what is your biggest ambition, at the moment?" At the moment, it's to survive my job with sanity still intact but even that's looking like too much for me to hope for. Seriously speaking, the only ambition I've ever had was as an actor. If I wasn't so turned off by the prospect of fame, I'd still go for it, but now I'm pretty aimless. Maybe start my own entertainment agency? I love watching other people create and perform, too, so I guess that would be a worthwhile task. "what do you enjoy doing in your free time?" I like to surf, actually. And play basketball. Honestly, any kind of sports will do for me. I find it refreshing. Oh, and fashion. You'd never guess from how I usually dress but I really like fashion, especially the dark-ish styles. So, looking for clothes & accessories, matching them, taking pictures, I find that fun. It's a secret but I have an instagram account where I post my nicer outfits — anonymously, of course. "what are you currently struggling with the most? don't worry, nobody will read these interview questions." ... Your assurance makes this much less assuring but I guess I don't have a choice. Right now, I'm struggling with work. Like I said, the people my company throws me at are the people they can't handle on their own, so. My favorite star is actually making huge, negative waves right about now. Meaning I'm going to have to go around laughing sheepishly and apologizing to many, many people. Fun, isn't it? On a more personal level... honestly, the stress has been turning me back to alcohol and I kind of hate myself for it. Like, the cigarettes & booze were just things everyone took when I was still modelling. Stupid kid I was, I obviously followed along. It's not like I've been getting drunk out of my mind — I can't, actually — but the temptations keep getting stronger, you know? "what's your biggest fear?" Of losing myself completely, I guess. Ever since I was dragged over to Korea to join the entertainment circles, I've been lost. I have so many sides to my personality, sides that don't seem to add up, and it confuses even myself. I've had friends say I'm a different, "fake" person at work even when I'm just trying to be responsible. I'm a good actor, you know? That's the problem. Even I can't tell if who I'm being is made-up or not. It doesn't feel fake... but it doesn't feel real. "can you tell us a little about your family?" A Japanese mother who works as a designer — she's the famous one, actually, her brand's been established & popular for years — and an Australian father who owns a couple businesses. You could say I'm a rich kid. I'm even the youngest one, with two older sisters, and got away with a lot of things when I was young. When I suddenly showed up with a agency's business card while we were vacationing in Korea, they were all more excited about it than me. They're great. I don't see them a lot since I started working and they don't always know what's going on with me since I don't wanna worry them, though. "do you have any other significant relationships in your life that we should know about?" Not really. Ever since... something really bad happened, I haven't been able to get too close to people. I have plenty of friends, especially from the entertainment scene, since most of the celebrities I see around are my age. People are usually shocked to find out I'm a PA, actually, because of who I keep as friends. But I wouldn't say I'm as close to any of them as they are to each other. "what would you say to the youngsters out there aspiring to be just like you?" I... highly doubt there are any? "what is more important: appearance, recognition or money?" In the end, it has to be money, don't you think? I never thought it was too important when I was young but it's pretty clear after so long lingering in these circles that money rules the world. Maybe it sucks, but it's inevitably a truth. "when faced with bad publicity, rumours or online scandals, what's the first thing you do?" For myself? Nothing. For my favorite stars? Immediately hire people to calm the storm or turn the tide, call up anyone I need to apologize to asap and generally get everyone involved to shut their mouths before it escalates. "on that note, what's the worst, most scandalous thing someone said about you online or in the news? both true and untrue, please." That I was sleeping with people to get ahead. It still gets said about me now, honestly, just not on the news. See, when I was...maybe 18, I was rising in the modelling circle & about to debut as an actor, too. That's when I started dating Yeon-ha. She was older, beautiful and really, really famous. Way out of my league. I couldn't even believe she really wanted to be with me. And neither could most of the internet. We both got a lot of hate. People were saying that I was using her or she was using me and a lot of other nasty stuff. I had my debut delayed. Which was fine, you know, I hadn't even been training as long as the others anyway. But it hit Yeon-ha hard. She just... I don't know. She broke down. And a few months into the scandal, she went to a party, took all sorts of substances and... well, never left. I quit after that and wanted to run far away. But, in the end, I came back in a completely different role. Maybe I wanted to stop people from turning out like her... though, after one too many failed attempts, I've realized maybe people aren't meant to be helped. "if you could dabble in any other field in hollywood, what would it be and why?" Like I said, acting. I'm not too shabby at it & it's fun. If fame and attention and everything that gave me depression back then weren't a definite part of it, I'd be working as an actor right now. "lastly, if you were on live tv right now, what's the one thing you'd want to say? who are you directing it at?" I will direct this to my favorite celebrity: please, for the love of god, do as you're told for once in your damned life.
Relationships
  • Rinko Tanizawa (mother) - a famous designer herself, Rinko is the one who inspired June's love of fashion. In his family, she's the only one that seems to really understand why he quit and all the stress he's been going through. She's also the only one that insists on calling him Juuno instead of June.
  • Justin Grant (father) - a cold, sharp businessman through & through. The only one he's weak to is his wife and, consequently, their children. He was least supportive of June's rise to fame & even less supportive of his decision to return and work as a "mere" personal assistant but usually keeps that to himself.
  • Tao & Yuki Tanizawa-Grant (sisters) - they have a playful rivalry among each other & compete over everything. June is decidedly winning in the looks & general coolness, or so he insists, but with one studying for her PhD in astrophysics & the other a high-powered lawyer, he's unfortunately & indisputably lost from birth in academics.

positives
+hardworking: he is a determined individual in any area he’s working on, whether as a student or as a teacher. He isn’t known to quit and is willing to persevere to the very end, no matter the difficulty of the journey. +bright: A clever learner and a quick one as well, it, along with his talent in the piano, has helped him along with his career greatly. Gil is observant of his surroundings and processes this both quickly and logically. +sympathetic: He has always seen helping others as the logical choice, and he never hesitates to offer a helping hand despite his unfriendly exterior. Gil is a generous person and sympathizes with even those he considers his enemies. He is quick to forgive.
neutrals
=intuitive: Despite his logical method of thinking, he’s guided by a strong sense of intuition and a sense of right and wrong. Though he puts up an organized look for the press, he tends to work in bursts when inspiration comes. He's rarely unsure of himself. =reserved: A private individual, Gil doesn’t like sharing his private life in the public and finds it rather awkward and unneeded. He prefers to keep his honest thoughts to himself and tends to stray on the edge of the party. It takes time for his withdrawn exterior to warm up, and perhaps a drink or two. =realistic: Gil considers himself to be more focused on the present than ‘idealistic dreams’ or the past. He isn’t much of a long-term planner; though he likes a schedule, he doesn’t bother with the future much otherwise.
negatives
-small-minded: As he is always aware of what he’s seeking, he isn’t one who’s open to new ideas easily. There are some things he can accept, but others take him time. Gil always has a specific way he’d like things done. -critical: Gil holds both himself and others to a standard he expects to be met. He can be too harsh in his criticism at times, refusing to change his mind either. In order to uphold these standards, he's willing to sacrifice his own pride and intuition, and often the reason why he listens to his PR agent. -envious: As it comes with his standards, he’s also often envious of what others hold that he does not, even lashing out because of it. While at times this is a motivation, more often it is a barrier he sets between himself and others.

rise to fame?
“I was what you’d call a child star… Though I suppose, that simply provided my ticket to the circle of musicians. I had won numerous competitions as early as ten, first near Guiyang where my family's factory relocated to before my birth. This lead to the Shanghai Conservatory when I was fourteen, soon after my family's relocated once again. I went to study abroad in the U.S. at sixteen, continuing my studies while competing for more. I had the privilege to perform at several major international venues later on. But as you know, rarely does one become famous beyond the realm of music fans and creators alike on such things alone. I can’t even claim to be famous in the latter, only known. Still, it was enough to put me on the edges of Hollywood, I suppose. Putting my name out there has led invitations to assist with several large budget films and such. I've gained some acquaintances, even friends in Hollywood from such experiences. I did gain publicity from other venues too but...Oh, you’ve seen Let’s Fly! Already? I’m glad you are a fan. I agree, it did gain me quite the attention in China. I was surprised they invited me back for the second season. And I’m sure you know my older sister? Yes, she had filmed a video of me playing in the streets one day and it went viral on her Youtube channel -this was before she became a hit herself; the video garnered several million views, last I heard. [a pause] That was far from my last appearance anyways. I'm not seeking fame, but recognition is tied with a musician's income and as such is necessary."
biggest ambition?
“My main concern is to take first place in the upcoming International Tchaikovsky Competition, which, as you know, I lost last year and was placed third. The next will be my last year of attendance, and I have aspired to win since childhood. Of course, my PR agent has been insisting I should reach out to group projects more for a good image, so I might have to balance that as well. I suppose I have some, idle dreams sometimes too, as much as I hate to admit so. I've considered the thought of teaching permanently at my old conservatory if they'd allow it before...I know, boring, right?”
free time?
“Practicing, of course. I consider music as my life long before it became my occupation, though I suppose working with composers is either heaven or hell. As a musician, it is important for me to listen and be up to date in the field, so a decent portion of my time is spent exploring new artists as well. I’m sure it does not interest you, however. I’ve been guest teaching at schools as well, as favors for some friends. [he smiled] Plus, I’ve caught up on several books I missed during my years of musical studies. [he waved his hand vaguely] I'm not one to seek company often anyways, not when I have Dantes already. And my nephews? [his brows wrinkled for the briefest moment, before vanishing] Yes… they are well. Next question?"
greatest struggles?
“Oh you know, the usual. I've been exploring contemporary compositions more these days, but my father considers it irrelevant compared to classical. My parents have been wanting me to return to Shanghai for a while now as well, and my sister… We fight, often. I know our parents weren’t the best to her, but it wasn’t my fault, you know? The worst isn’t even the facade of peace we put on, it’s the night of drinking after each fight. I don’t go to bars anymore, after that incident, but God, is the hangover and guilt is a pain in the morning. I know this solves nothing, but honestly, I have no clue what the future holds and I'd rather not think about it then. And music-wise? Sometimes I worry I've lost my touch and I'm only playing for the sake of it... An imposter, I suppose. I can never tell if I'm improving too slowly. Will I know when my last performance come?"
greatest fears?
“A permanent injury of my hands. I'm sure you can imagine the state of my career afterward. [he chuckled sadly] Of course, my alcohol use worries me, and so does the thought of disownment if I left the closet, but even greater is the fear that I will bring down those around me with my issues. Those secrets or a hand injury can kill my career, and then my parents will constantly fret over me. It shouldn’t be their problem, but the media is just…[he clenched his fist] Ah, I probably shouldn’t badmouth the media in front of you. But what can I say? They’ve almost done it once, they can do it again, and I'm not losing my parents' trust in my stability that's already dwindling.”
family?
“As I've said my parents overlooked a factory in China. They’ve lived a tough life before, so they look out for me, but it can be a lot of pressure. When I pursued piano, it was on the promise that either I'm aiming for the top or give up. It is not my secret to tell but since no one will know… [he coughed] my sisters don’t exactly have a good relationship with them. My older sister Kate is more outspoken about it but for both, well, my parents have a preference for sons over daughters. [he looked down] Due to our childhood, our relationships have been complicated. As you know, Kate is a famous vlogger and YouTuber, and Nina -my younger sister- has her new twins to take care of now along with her job as a VFX artist for movies. We rarely get time together as a whole family now... [he trailed off to a stop] And we've never been one to talk about such things anyway. Next question?”
significant relationship?
“[he sighed] That’s a little personal, but I’d have to say no. I’ve been busy with some new pieces these past few months, and the last romantic relationship I was in… In secret, it was a PR stunt, but it felt just as laboring as a real relationship. I really am not seeking any -whether close friendship or romantic- right now when my family is enough to juggle.”
aspiring youngsters?
“Don’t, unless you love the music enough where even if someone tries to stop you, you keep going in any way possible. It took luck, years of hard work, sweat, blood, and tears or however that phrase goes to get me here. I won’t stop you, but this isn’t easy works. Behind every minute of performance is years of struggle. And do clip your nails. Please.”
appearance, recognition, or money?
“Honestly? You’ll hate this, but I guess money. Of course, recognition is key to have, especially as a musician, but in general, money talks. Even if the world hates you and you are unknown, money still does its works. I don’t care much about extravagant material goods nor being stingy, but you never know when you need to be saved by money. Not everyone can ever obtain and keep the first two for their entire life, but work pays off. That’s what my father has taught me since day one."
response to bad publicity?
“My PR agent can take care of it. As much as I dislike this 'cold with a soft side' facade they are pushing upon me, I generally go with whatever they say, whether to give an acknowledgment about it, et cetera. They promised me it'll keep me my occupation, and so far it works. I couldn’t care less myself unless it involves my family. If the latter, then I’d immediately call them to make sure they are safe. The extent of people’s hate can reach still shocks me. [he shuddered]”
biggest scandal? true and untrue.
“My God, I still recall the cult scandal. Someone claimed my entire family was involved in a cult, and it spread like wildfire. Luckily that lie was stopped right before it lost all control, but I almost thought my career was forever tarnished, which I suppose it is, a little. The variations magazines started spinning bewilders me to this day, including one where we apparently drank human blood. The one that is true? [he sighed] I did indeed get into a barfight after more than one drink too many; there were several close calls and disputes before but, this was the first time police got involved. Thank God the trial was won. [he looked down] It was after I placed third in Tchaikovsky and I’d refrained from drinking in public since then. The rumors of my alcohol issues are half true; it isn’t as severe as they make it out to be but…[he glanced away with guilt] it isn’t nonexistent either.”
other fields of Hollywood?
“Writing, perhaps? I’ve always enjoyed literature and the art of writing. Of course, actors are impressive at their works, but the screenwriter’s job is not to be ignored either. The way they strung words together, each carefully picked reminds me of compositions of music. Unfortunately, my English is likely not good enough for such jobs but, I think I would’ve liked it. [he smiled a little]”
what would you say if you're on live tv? to whom?
“[he paused] I’d probably thank my parents, my teachers, my friends. I considered speaking to my parents, as they used to joke I would never make live TV but I doubt they are watching.”

trivia
  • though Gilbert isn't his name on the passport, it's what he's called by everyone else. It was given by his first teacher at the Shanghai Conservatory.
  • enjoys wearing formal clothing as it makes him feel important
  • left-handed
  • has a cat named Dantes he saved from the streets and plays piano to. His grand piano is a gift from his mentor on graduation from the conservatory in the U.S. and is his apartment in Los Angeles' centerpiece; its size also ends up making the apartment feel a lot more cramped.
  • Surprisingly, loves working with children and inspiring future musicians
  • Let's Fly is a Chinese variety show about traveling on various continents, depending on the season's theme. It started as a means of self-promotion, but he did end up enjoying it greatly. It also helped him to be seen as a more down-to-earth person and less isolated, thus pretentious.
  • He does believe in some auspicious stuff and ghosts. He suspects that's where someone spun the whole cult thing off of, which still is brought up every now and then, to Gil's dismay.
  • Gil babbles often when drunk; half of his early rumors stemmed from those babbling in public being overheard.
  • Is closeted, and has little plans to out himself in fear of career impact and his family's respond
  • His playing can range from intense and riveting to light and airy. However, he does have a preference for dramatics and contrasts.
  • Both his parents were only children, and as such he and Kate were both born in China. Nina, however, was born in the U.S. He has an extremely conflicted relationship with his parents.

how did you rise to fame?
After I won an international competition of ballet at the age of 15, I represented South Korea back and a some of the best ballet schools all over the world were searching for new talents and I was scouted for the San Francisco Ballet School one of the top ballet schools in the US. After I graduted I joined the San Francisco Ballet at this moment I'm a demi soloist so I'm still not completely famous but my name is starting to get known in the ballet world, but I have taken part in other dance projects that has helped me get a fanbase.
what is your biggest ambition, at the moment?
To become a Prima Ballerina, simple as that I'm not going to let all my effort to be wasted as the background dancer or someone with a small role. I want everyone to know who I am through my dancing.
what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Sleeping is one of the things I do on my free time, my schedule tends to be hectic since I'm always in a practice room or on the stage so there's not really a lot of time for myself and my energy most of the time is drained for the long hours practising, but I also like going out and discover new places.
what are you currently struggling with the most?
It's hard to admit this but doubting myself and not being completely confident on my abilities, I might show this bad bitch facet that would do anything to get on the top which is true I'll do anything to be the number one and not caring who is in front of me and if I hurt them along the way, but as time passes I'm not getting any younger, and new ballerinas are coming every year and that plays tricks on your mind not really knowing how long they would want you in the company. Some people might think I'm crazy for thinking this at 23, but if you take a look how long the career of a ballerina is not easy to make it at the top in such a short time.
what's your biggest fear?
Losing my passion for dance, it might sound cliche but being on a stage dancing has always being what I wanted to do since I could remember, it's what makes me who I am, if I lose that, I lose myself.
can you tell us a little about your family?
Is just your usual family, I'm an only child and both of my parents work so we are not super rich, but both have been able to give me all I needed through my entire life and they were able to pay my dance lessons so I'm greteful for that. We are not really super close since we are more focused on our goals than showing affection with each other. They were the typer of parents that wouldn't sugarcoat things and would bring me to reality sounds a little harsh but they teach me that life isn't pink and that I need to be better than everyone els
do you have any other significant relationships in your life that we should know about?
Not really, I mean I have some friends that I hang out sometimes but we are not that close just to party and have some fun I haven't gotten personal with them and I don't think I will. From the company you know what they say, keep your friends close but your enemies closer.
what would you say to the youngsters out there aspiring to be just like you?
I don't think I'm the best example as a role model. I have done some things that people might not consider nice, but drastic situations means drastic solutions I might not be proud of them but at that time it was the best I could do, but just be consistent in you work there's nothing else and don't let your inner demons take control over you, people might want to bring you down but the biggest enemy you have is yourself, so push yourself always until you feel you accomplished something.
what is more important: appearance, recognition or money?
I mean all of them are important as a dancer you don't only get judged on your technique the way you look plays a lot too if you get a role or no and if you stand out from the other dancers, and let's be real you need money to live they say money doesn't buy happinnes but is happinnes going to pay for your groceries, I don't think so. But recognition is the most important, you want to be remembered for what you did or who you were. I didn't spend all my life and effort just to be forgotten and be like the rest I don't want to have an expiry date I want the future generations to know who I was and what I did.
when faced with bad publicity, rumours or online scandals, what's the first thing you do?
I try to not to pay attention to them, I'm a person that would most likely not change her point of view and that would hurt people along the way, but it won't make me regret my decisions and I haven't done something that would completely ruin my image. I'm honest and direct and that have caused me some bad blood with some people, but things haven't escalated for me being in a big scandal and if something I don't want to be part of. I care a blot about my social status to get into scandals.
on that note, what's the worst, most scandalous thing someone said about you online or in the news? both true and untrue, please.
I think the worst I have seen have been like me breaking up marriages because I seduce the guy or me sleeping with casting directors to get a role or in any other dance project I'm in, just thinking of that makes me sick to my stomach. I might have done some things to some dancers to get what I want and thankully that haven't come up to the light and I'm not proud of them so I'm not be saying anything, but me sleeping with someone? I have a pride and self respect I wouldn't do that.
if you could dabble in any other field in hollywood, what would it be and why?

lastly, if you were on live tv right now, what's the one thing you'd want to say? who are you directing it at?
You put me on a difficult spot right I don't really show my emotions to someone so I don't have a clue what I would say or to who. I guess it would be to my parents? Something like I'm doing fine and I'll continue working and giving my all? That feels weird and doesn't sound like me so let's skip that question.

how did you rise to fame?
I’m not famous in the sense of working in films or being a singer – or for any talents. But rather I was dubbed “Oppa-nim” by Avery Yang’s fans. They say it’s because of my good looks. But also, you’ll never see Avery Yang attending a function, set or location without me either right beside him or closely by. I’ve been his manager for thirteen years, and I see him more of a younger brother. A son, even. Which is why I scold him so comfortably most times.

what is your biggest ambition, at the moment?
I want to get Avery back home to Korea. In fact, I would also like to go back home. My goal has never been to live in America. If Avery wants to stay here, then he’s going to have to find another manager. But I don’t think he’ll give me up so easily. He practically pleaded on the ground for me to come with him in the first place as they shot their movies.

what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I enjoy reading. When we’re on aeroplanes or travelling, I’m one of those rare people you find who can read without feeling motion sickness. It’s a blessing, really. But I really enjoy philosophical and business books. Anything where I’m learning basically.

what are you currently struggling with the most? don't worry, nobody will read these interview questions.
I suppose dealing with my divorce at the moment. My six year old son passed away five years ago and since then, my wife and I just… we just sort of drifted away. I was making sure to spend more time at work just so I wouldn’t have to go home to see her upset. Of course, we should’ve got counselling or admit that we needed help. But the pair of us are just two stubborn people. And little by little, our marriage started to deteriorate and neither of us were willing to fix it. She told me she had met someone new and wanted a divorce. Those papers are still going through now, so just waiting to hear back from our lawyers.

what's your biggest fear?
Losing someone that is close to me. I've already lost my son; I don't think I could handle the heartache of losing someone else.

can you tell us a little about your family?
Both of my parents have passed, and I was an only child. I married my high school sweetheart after I finished my military training when I was twenty two. When I was twenty four, we had Young-Jae and then when I was twenty eight, we had Jin-Ah. If Young-Jae was still alive, he would be eleven this year. Jin-Ah is seven years old but my wife, Ae-Ra, won't let me see her which is why we're having fights with lawyers at the moment.

do you have any other significant relationships in your life that we should know about?
I suppose my soon to be ex wife and Avery? But apart from them... No, no one.

what would you say to the youngsters out there aspiring to be just like you?
Work hard, study hard, and remember that just because life hits you down, doesn't mean you can't get back up again.

what is more important: appearance, recognition or money?
Recognition. I'd rather live my life knowing that I'm leaving some sort of... legacy behind.

when faced with bad publicity, rumours or online scandals, what's the first thing you do?
Usually Avery comes running straight to me and we get it sorted. But it's hard work. It's a lot of phone calls, blackmailing and bribing. To be a manager, you need to have balls of steel and a heart of stone. People out there don't want to see you succeed, and so you need to attack back with what you have.

on that note, what's the worst, most scandalous thing someone said about you online or in the news? both true and untrue, please.
Luckily, I've had no reports about me. Well, apart from the whole article about 'Oppa-Nim' which, you know, I'm okay with.

if you could dabble in any other field in hollywood, what would it be and why?
I'd like to be a writer. I love to read and I feel like I'd have a lot of different plots and characters I'd love to share with the world. But I'm just way too busy to sit down and write.

lastly, if you were on live tv right now, what's the one thing you'd want to say? who are you directing it at?
I'd tell everyone to hold onto their children; kiss them every night. Tell them you love them. Hug them spontaneously. Because one day, they won't be there to do that. And you'll regret it. And I'll break your heart.
