Regarding RPGMaker, it's a program that was specifically marketed to people who don't know how to code, do digital art, or really any other thing that's typically associated with games, which is why many people don't consider the games made by it 'real' games. However, it's what I use for one of my games, and for most others I use Twine, which makes text-based games.
I have one game where an amnesiac traveler goes around meeting people. It's not complete yet, but I love all the characters and I'm proud of what I do have. It's called 'The Tale of Lukas'.
I'm also working on a text-based farming/life sim, called 'Jade Town'.
If you're talking in general, I suppose I really like making story or character-driven games. Especially ones with multiple endings. Make what you want to see, right? I've got a couple of other things in the making (one of which is based on a failed RP world I created on this very site) so that's fun.
It just so happens that that's the game that sparked the debate I mentioned in the original post ^^' I'm also updating it right now. I could send you a link to the demo if you'd like? Fair warning: It's an RPGMaker game, and those games can be somewhat laggy. They also only work on Windows computers, not Mac (well, they do work on Mac, but they won't let the player save their game).
I have no patience at all for jrpg turn based combat. The battles take sooo fucking long and I'm stuck skipping the fucking dialogue over and over again for a majority of the game. But I actually do love text based games though. I especially am fond of gamebooks I play on my phone in my free time. I found "jade Town" so imma try it rn.
I like it so far. Bear in mind that I only read up until the point where you were introduced to all the different buildings as my game glitched and didn't offer me the option to go further. But there's lots of promise
