Bill Nein Grimdark was actually popularized by the game Warhammer 40,000 with their tagline being: “In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war.” (how edgy) and grim darkness was then shortened to, simply, Grimdark. One of my favorite words to use when describing edgy characters.
