I don't know if they're notified or not when you do, but if not then there are signs you can find if you look out for them. The most obvious is that if you send a PM to someone who's ignoring you, the system will automatically remove you from the conversation.

Indeed. I've seen a few people get . . . weirdly salty about it? Which I kind of don't understand, because I see it as choosing not to engage with someone for whatever reason. Whether the ignored understands that reason or not, it's not really taking anything from them but that one person's attention, so why the offense?
