I don't wanna be THAT guy, but the only thing fanfiction ever made me feel was disgust.

What idea said, fanfiction is taking a brilliant piece of entertainment and ruining it in the cringiest way possible.

That's entirely your right, kind of makes me wonder what you've read.

I don't believe it 'ruins' anything, just offers a new perspective, gives another person's take on events and characters. There is awful, cringe-inducing fanfiction. There is decent fanfiction. There is brilliant fanfiction. Fanfiction isn't everyone's cup of tea. I personally don't see how it differs from fan art or anything else fan-created. If a novel series or manga or TV show or anything, really, inspires people to create within that universe, I think that's amazing. Not all fanfiction is good, and not all fanfiction is bad.

Some people like to do fandom roleplays. Others like to create characters and storylines inspired by a fandom, and write by themselves. I don't see much of a difference between the two.

I think that the only way fanfiction can actually ruin a work for you is if you forget that it's fan-made.

sibelle,  you´re absolutely right. I am not saying fanfiction is a bad thing, I was making more of a statement of envy at you finding that rare jewel that is proper fanfiction. Most fanction either make me cringe at the sheer lack of effort or thought put into them (and for a long time, I stayed away from fandoms due to a lot of them likewise lacking such thought...), or is outright porn something that really disgusts me. But I am in no way disregarding the possibility of making really brilliant ones such as the one you found nor in any do I hold grudges against anyone that writes them... it´s pretty hard making sure something is actually decently written when on top of being your own work, it is based on something you love and attempts to capture what you love about it.
