Colosseum The Ringmasters: Colloseum of the Tyrant

Rose-Chan

Trying to bring myself back
What would you do if you woke up with all new power?
The Ringmasters is a roleplay following a group of characters pitted into dofferent challenges in what is known as "The Colloseum of The Tyrant", named after The Tyrant King. This arena has a strange property, in that everyone within is bestowed a magicak ring, one granting them abilities beyond their normal capabilities. Typically as warm ups, the contestants are told to fight amongst themselves to learn their newfound powers, unless they wish to jump into the absurd magical gauntlet of the colloseum. The magical rings in question attune themselves to the user granting powers which fit the user's own traits.
The users are given newfound power they have to learn to control and eventually master. The ultimate goal? To become on of the many colloseum hosts, the ring masters a group of ring users who have mastered their rings, but why do they choose to stay?
Why should we?
...
There are many mysteries to solve within the gauntlet, but first, the weakest of the ring masters must be taken out by the next group of fighters. The question is, will we win?

The Ringmasters is an RP which will consist mostly of combat and dungeon-like exploration. Within the dungeons walls creatures lurk and lore hides, awaiting reveal. Ordinary characters will be given special abilities thanks to their rings, which will create powers based upon vertain traits (dm me about power creation/discussion.)
Things im looking for in the rp:

>A good, active group. A post a day from each person when possible. This can help allowing for openness. If everyone agrees, im willing to adjust this.
>Creative ideas; The powers are meant to reflect inner mechanisms of your character. Or some stuoid and simple trait. It doesnt matter, but be fun and creative.
>Those who know how to not make op characters.
>Decent post length, a paragraph or two (at best). Some powers require less or more description, but in general this is where i like to set myself.
>Those willing to help gm; I am not the greatest, im fairly new, but any jelp is appreciated.. I need it. I dont want to die on roleplaying again.

If this gets enough interest i will make an official signups! Oh, and if anyone would like to see the 14 some-odd powers ive created please dm me, as they may inspire you for your character iseas in the future if this ever starts!

Edit: Ring powers will be posted in a spoiler later today, up to 14! This oughtta get those creative juices flowing and show you what's possible in this rp.

Example powers:
Associated trait: None

This ring's power allows the user to use special black flame-like magic which drains the lifeforce of opponents they strike. Albeit, at a greater cost of stamina, they can essentially steal the stamina of opponents to keep fighting. This power is limited to extended melee strikes, or enchanting weapon hits.

Associated traits: Interest in Magic, Desires Power.

A magicician's dream ring. They use the four basic elements to devistate opponents and the battlefield, from a safe distance. Fire, Water, Air, and Earth are all creatable, and manipulatable, at greater costs of stamina for greater feats.

Walpurgis ring wearers have little in the way of close range attacks besides water splashes, earthen punches, and the like. They cannot use weaponry made of magic, as they are inept at using it.

Associated traits: Martial Arts, Kicks.

Unlike the misleading name, This ring archetype offers greater physical enhancments, especially towards kicks.

Punches and kicks can be thrown out easier, have much more force, and can act in unnatural ways. Commonly, Users carry themselves foward in dash-like motions using the force of their punch. The main limits of this ability is that it requires the user to be adept at fighting beforehand, but allows for them to be mucj stronger and more efficient.

Associated traits: Athletic, Swift.

This ring granrs the wearer a level of inhuman speed. Their reactions times are teice as fast, their alices and movements with heavy and light weaponry alike are increased in pace, and much more plentiful. They expend less energy overall and are geeat at wearing down their enemies with light strikes. Favoring small weapons like knives, daggers and short swords, this ring focuses rushing down the oponent with unrelenting blows. This does not augment the strength of the user.

Associated traits: Sadistic, Enjoys Fighting.

The opposite of Bloodedge, Lifeblood users drain their own stamina to manipulate their blood in unusual ways. Lifeblood users may dye their body with their own blood, but their arms are permanently coated. Any attacks that dont involve the blood on their arms leaves blood pools on the ground, which can be controlled as they use other attacks to chain together many actions. However, every action using blood pools or creating blood pools drains stamina, and rewuires a sucessful hit of these same moves to gain a portion of what was lost back.

Associated traits: Asocial, Silent.

An assassin's best friend, Soubke chase grants faster run speed and the ability to manipulate shadows in a special way. Double Chase users may manipulate the shadows to create a clone of themselves. This clone acts and moves similarly to the user, but does not damage. It looks lifelike and cannot be differentiated. This is a scare tactic, and mind game related power.

SILLY EXAMPLE

Associated Traits: Love fruits, Gardening.

This ring seems sweet and innocent, allowing the user to create strawberries, manipulate plantlife, and grow flowers and plants on earth.

This is a ruse.

The plants are stronger than normal, allowing the uaer to restrict oponents, the plants they grow look aweet but offer them carnivorous plants and poisonous flowers, and those strawberries? They are explosives, the seeds acting as tiny bullets as they explode in a large range. This ring requires alot of extra stamina to manipulate plantlife, and as such the user will be lower on stamina, by average. However, most of the users of this ring tend to keep a positive, somewhat unsettling upbeat attitude to hide their exhaustion.

The following ring has an important effect to discovering plot elements!
Associated traits: Detective, Investigator

The Seeker of Truth is well versed in predicting enemy movements. They place traps around them and predict enemy movementa to shoot them with guns from afar. They use special, magically based bullets which arent required to reload. This gives them the abilitu to carr a discreet handgun, their favored weapon type.

Using these bulets consumes a small amount of their stamina per shit, as does placing the bullet-based traps.

The Seeker of Truth can see the Truth
Truth is lore-based insight to objects and characters which other players cant easily view (given to them in spoiler tags). The Seeker of Truth is as good of an investigor as a fighter.

Associated traits: Calm and Collected, Prim and Proper

Silpheed users can command the winds, allowing them to augment their other abilities. They are also lighter than other ring users, and as such may float on their own winds, but also take more knockback. They are quick and hard to hit.

They also posses the ability to shapeshift the ring into various shapes, twirling it around themselves in spikes and sending themselves forward like a spiky top of death. The elegance and deadliness of this ring cannot be underrated.

The wearer's ring because giant gauntlets which seem to weigh nothing, along with special boots. These boots allow the user to quickly rocket across the battlefield, crashing into ibsracles if they arent careful. These fists act less as punch augmenters, and more as grappling augments. The user has extremely harsh grip strength and lifting strength, capable of throwing those 3 times their own body weight with ease. The major downside is their ohysical form is still mostly unchanged, and this leaves them as vulnerable targets. Their stamina is relatively low and they can be easily exhausted, but their speed and control over their oponent wins them battles faster than you might think...

Element masters, unlike walpurgis, only control one of many elements (Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Ice, Light, Dark, Force... Etc.)

These users are so masterful in their control of their element it itterates itself into whatever combat style they use. They can create as much of any given element as they need, at the cost of their stamina. Again, greater feats are greater cost.

Associate traits: Strong-Willed, Athletic

Afterburner users harness the power of their rings when they need it the most, and rely purely on their own skills and reflexes. Afterburner users have 4 stages of "Afterburner". It affects them as they lose stamina.

The first stage is 100%~75% stamina. Referred to as Base. It offers no strength augments beyond what the user was capable of before the ring was donned.

Between 75% and 50% the user gains dpuble their initial strength, and is much less likely to be knocked off their feet.

Between 50% and 25% the user gains a flaming hot aura around them, augmenting their punches with firey properties, and making them less suceptible to fire, ice, and Plant-life rekated attacks.

Below 25%, the user can move double their speed, and their strength becomes doubled again. They fire burns so intense direct contact can burn others. They lose extra stamina whenever hit, to counteract this huge spike.

Associated traits: Gun User, Dancing.

Bullet Dancers use quick movements paired with guns of various kinds to create deadly bullet ballets, Their movements are offset by their lower strength and stamina than most ring users, making them quick to kill, but hard to hit. Their bullets down actually do much damage overall, but they can keep openents from agressing on them.

The style of the movements is dependant on the gun type, sniper rifles and gatling guns, however, are not allowed. They would be too heavy

This premise seems intriguing for sure, I would definitely be interested in joining. I can probably make a post a day, but since I'm currently in college it might be a struggle. Because of that, I'm not sure about trying to help GM, though I can certainly send you advice.

Also, is there an age limit for the ring users? And how are they chosen, do they just pick any random person off the street and hold them against their will in the Coliseum, or is there some level of aptitude that qualifies them for using the rings? If there is a precise reason which wanders into spoiler territory, then never mind this question.

Again, this all seems pretty cool, and I can't wait to see more information.

On the subject of an age limit: You have be able to reasonably be an adventurer, in a fantasy setting. I think the bare minimum age should be 16, any lower would require a level of power that would imply you already posess magical abilities (in the world im creating, this is a rarity)
The general age range should be 18+ however.

On the subject of how people enter, the non-spoiler answer is that people are drawn by the glory and promise of power. They hope to fight, acheive victory and leave with newfound abilities. Some are invited due to their strength or powers already, but this is a rarity.

In the case of the rp, it stands to be that we all came to the arena seeking *something*.

On the subject of ring qualifications: The only qualifications are that you have to have signed up for the arena, be at least 16. Rings cannot be taken outside of the arena if you are a compettitor. Nobody knows what happens if you try.

If you would like more questions answered simply ask. This is a good food for thought for me. The idea is still a little WIP as i need to work out some details, but im glad you had enough interest to ask.

Also, gm advice would be apreciated, yes! Thats the kind of help im looking for.

As a note, i have updated the main post with ring examples! These are not the only avilible ideas, simply ideas for inspiration. Seeker of truth's effect of aeeing truth, however, is likely a requirment for someone's powers

Okay, that makes sense! I was actually asking because I pictured a 70-80 year old trying to fight another in their mid-20s. Which might actually be interesting, since powers are supposed to be related to the unique aspects of the user.

And if they simply choose to answer, then is the Coliseum a replacement of sorts for democratic power? Does the Tyrant King have unbridled power over the entire population, and thus simply organizes this event to choose strong underlings to serve under him? I'm trying to work out in my head how the moral standards of society might have shifted, though I suppose it could also be the type of Spartan world which has always held the Coliseum to be right.

I'm glad you aren't too put off by my questions, as I tend to ask a lot of them! This idea just interests me enough, that I want to spend time contemplating the details.

The Case of a 80-90 year old fighting is.. Rediculous to say the least.
The oldest you could likeky be is 30, 40 if youre pushing it.

And on the subject of The Tyrant King, the colloseum was built under his rule. This is all i'm.going to say,as i wish to leave a bit of mystery as to who is running it.
To answer your next question a non-spoilery way, the colloseum "host" is basically recruiting people to set up challenges and fights, but some of the stronger contestants who dont win are actually picked to go into military positions with their powers.

Im unsure how tp answer the Colloseum being a replacement for democratic power. Im perhaps missing an important detail or two in how to world build ^^;

And i enjoy questions, it actually gets me thinking about thinga i otherwise wouldnt have.

No, ive mentioned many tomes that you can create your own, just run it by me before creation.

Also, with 4 or so people i feel i have enough to begin something, at least. So sometime soon (today or tomorrow) i might post cs thread

Interested. Would like the AfterBurner ring please. Hmm, I wonder what person you know you will embellish? *Sigh* Ignore him.

Sure thing, just dont forget those werent required to be chosen from.

There is a character thread up, so go ahead and post there.

I'm assuming this is in modern times due to the existence of guns, let me know if I'm wrong.

Sort of. Im inagining a style of fantasy world where modern things exist alongside your typical fantasy settings.

Are my own ring powers enough to actually make people wanna use them?? I thought people woukd make alot more of thwir own but i guess i did a better job designing them than imagined. Also, im going to make an ooc thread later today when im free.

I nearly did make my own, but you’ve got a broad range of examples and I was interested in the plot-related ones.

Thing is, the unused rings were going to go towards random ring users that may pop up in the colloseum. Also, seeker of truth is the only true plot related one, technically. The others are not listed for various reasons.

I was tempted to make seeker of truth work but I had so many ideas that fit with the AfterBurner.
