Background

Paladina is a country scarred by battlefields. Accursed beings from the Underdark swept across the land, cursing and killing everything in sight. The Vampire was among the most feared and vicious. Humanity turned towards the Light for salvation, and so, Servants of Dawn emerged to cleanse the plagued lands.

Ages have passed since the vampire was a constant threat. Their mark left on society is still felt to this day in the form of gothic design, cryptic humor, and morose attitudes. It is said a Servant has a way of brightening the dreary minded. Popular belief among scholars is that Servants were the descendants of paladins and warriors who defeated the Blight.

All empires have their heights and low points. All agree the war against the Blight was the epitome of their divine strength, but with years that aura has faded. Now the country is at war with itself. The future could depend on the Servants of Dawn siding with the righteous, so long as they are not deceived.

There is an unspoken code amongst Servants of Dawn never to ask for a reward for their service. Anything given to them in excess should be donated. A Servant is forced to seek a nomad’s life in search of evil to destroy. (This means I plan on rewarding you with special items in lieu of wasting everyone’s time grocery shopping)

First to post! I have an elf ranger 3/4ths done. I just had a question. What kind of creatures are there in this setting for a Favored Enemy? What would work well in this setting?

Does this mean you do NOT want us to post a full character sheet, but just the general description and background? I don't want to get banned for not following the rules.

Post the full sheet along with your writing sample. Im going to make a page for approved sheets. Here we can discuss ideas and build a good team

As for favored enemies, assume everything else is normal dnd setting aside from what I have laid out. Feel free to embellish and make up places you hail from

Thank you for clearing that up for me. I'll have my elf typed up and posted shortly. Do you want the sheets here in this thread, or do you want them somewhere else?

I edited my previous post but yeah I will take sheets in here, and make an approved page in leading up to game start

Feature: Military Rank - You have a military rank from your career as a soldier. Soldiers loyal to your former military organization still recognize your authority and influence, and they defer to you if they are of a lower rank. You can invoke your rank to exert influence over other soldiers and requisition simple equipment or horses for temporary use. You can also usually gain access to friendly military encampments and fortresses where your rank is recognized.

Class Features:
Divine Sense -
The presence of strong evil registers on your senses like a noxious odor, and powerful good rings like heavenly music in your ears. As an action, you can open your awareness to detect such forces. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any celestial, fiend, or undead within 60 feet of you that is not behind total cover. You know the type (celestial, fiend, or undead) of any being whose presence you sense, but not its identity (the vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich, for instance). Within the same radius, you also detect the presence of any place or object that has been consecrated or desecrated, as with the Hallow spell.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to 1 + your Charisma modifier. When you finish a long rest, you regain all expended uses.

Lay on Hands -
Your blessed touch can heal wounds. You have a pool of healing power that replenishes when you take a long rest. With that pool, you can restore a total number of hit points equal to your paladin level x 5.

As an action, you can touch a creature and draw power from the pool to restore a number of hit points to that creature, up to the maximum amount remaining in your pool.

Alternatively, you can expend 5 hit points from your pool of healing to cure the target of one disease or neutralize one poison affecting it. You can cure multiple diseases and neutralize multiple poisons with a single use of Lay on Hands, expending hit points separately for each one.

This feature has no effect on undead and constructs.

Race Features:
Darkvision - Thanks to your elven heritage, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Fey Ancestry - You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can't put you to sleep.

Equipment:
Chain mail
Greatsword
5 Javelins
Explorer's Pack
Holy Symbol
Insignia of Rank
Broken blade taken from a fallen drow
Deck of Cards
Common clothes
10 Gold

Background:
Carric, at first, seems to be the ideal paladin. A tall, strongly built half elf, his dark hair slightly shrouding golden eyes. His clean shaven face is marred only by a long, jagged scar down his right eye, a mark of the life he’s lived.

Despite this appearance, Carric’s life has not been an easy one. The illegitimate son of an elven noble, Carric always sought to be more than just a bastard. To make a difference. With few options to make a name for himself, military service was an easy choice. He was always strong, with a natural charisma to boot. He quickly rose through the ranks, proving himself well, well liked for his firm, fair leadership style, and ability to inspire loyalty through truly connecting with his comrades. This caught the eye of the Church. Always searching for Paladins to fill their ranks, Carric was selected to join their hallowed ranks. He proved himself even further, and was eventually assigned a command position in a small company of fellow new Paladins. Despite his outward unflappable, easy going nature, anxiety constantly fell over the man. Leadership always hung heavy over his head, the burden of his men’s lives weighing heavy on his soul. Despite this, he refused to let them see it. To them, he was always Carric, the lively, inspiring figure he always was.

Unfortunately, his worst fears came to pass. He would find himself the lone survivor of his company, ambushed as they soought to end the bloody civil war that had consumed Paladina.

He was left alone, with the guilt that he had failed. That his men had died to save him.

This guilt turned to anger. Anger that their deaths had not been avenged. He rose with a new oath, that of vengeance, retribution. He threw aside his warhammer and shield, and took up the greatsword, to ensure his comrades did not die in vain.

Carric is a man of contradictions. A man who detests conflict, yet has sworn himself to a path of bloody revenge. A man with supreme confidence in his abilities, with a deep feeling of unworthiness.

Sheets are looking pretty good so far.

Rusty. The Blight is written to have happened generations ago. Unless you’re a full blooded elf who is very old, your character would never have experienced it firsthand. If you want you can make your character connected to the civil war which is currently happening

Ahh okay sorry, misunderstood. Lemme rewrite!

Rusty of Shackleford Rusty of Shackleford and Sherwood Sherwood your characters are approved. Please take your seats by reposting your sheet, photo, and background in the proper character channel

I’m considering making my own player character as well. What do you suppose I should make to aid in your quests?

Right now we have a Ranger and a Damage focused Paladin. I believe we also at least are gonna get a Druid, so we have a Ranged character, a DPS Character, and a Support Caster

The wizard could be pretty good. We need a spellcaster.

I have to say, the very original Gurk had dice rolled a '3' for his Cha. It was a fun twist to a bad dice roll as the party rallied around him in an effort to find some way to raise his Cha score.

Sour Diesel Sour Diesel After a bit of pondering, I decided to remove the scale mail that Aldarian had and replaced it with leather. It makes more sense to me with her woodsy ranger lifestye. It dropped my AC only by 1, so I'm not too bad off with a 15.

BTW Psychie Psychie I love in your character background the description of Gurk's face, how it can curdle milk and scare babies. Very nice.

Thank you! I try to create with my words the full extent of just how ugly Gurk is. Its why he wears a mask all the time, to keep from scarring people. I just don't have any good pics of a human that is painfully ugly to use, so I went with the one I posted.

I fully understand. There are not all that many ugly anime character drawings out there; everyone wants buff, good looking guys, not pasty-faced ugly ones that have a face that looks like a bowl of oatmeal that someone sat in.
