I don't know I like likes and loves, I actually miss some of the icons they used to have before like funny or creative.
agree

this middle ground of just "like" or "love" sux, not that i want dislikes, but you might as well have more pretend choices

For me, so far It has been ghosting. I understand that people get busy, things happen in life that can’t be avoided, but what I really hate is knowing an RP partner has been online here, day after day, active, and they won’t reply to my polite message to ask if they’re okay, do they want to continue the RP, etc.

The thing is, if I’m going to write with someone, I get very invested. I dedicate my emotions, and my time into an RP. When I get treat like that, it really bothers me. It’s obvious that I‘ve been actively ignored, and it puts me in the position of having to make the decision to end things. I am careful about how many RP partners I take on. I want to meet everyone’s needs for each RP. So, if I’ve committed to an RP then I can’t join another one whilst I’m waiting for the RP partner that won’t respond to my messages to reply back to me.

if a partner just vanishes, and I don’t see them actively online, or posting here, then I assume they’ve gotten busy And there are no hard feelings. But it does frustrate me to know I’m being ignored when I see some partners actively around here and know they’re ignoring me.

I eam there are more options ok RP threads but sometimes I want to be able to choose more that just Like, Love, Great Scene, Well Written and Aww

I have another one!
Having someone write a full 1000+ word starter (yours truly wrote that starter) to be informed they won't respond because your style just wasn't it.
I did send an example of how I write, and it was very annoying to be told that after I spent a good couple of hours talking about starting a roleplay and spending another hour writing the starter.
More or less what I'm trying to say here is along the lines of,
Not everyone can hold up to the standards of having the world's perfect grammar, pacing, etc. You can't expect anyone to be perfect even after they tell you they'd change their whole writing style to roleplay with you.

But who am I kidding I don't care that much

This has happened to me on more than a few occasions. If I'm really feeling the RP, and I have enough to work with, I can regularly hit 700 to 1600 words on my posts. And my starters are always big because they set the scene and introduce a character. I've had people up and leave because they didn't "want to keep up with that". But I've always been up front bout my writing style, and mention that I can supply writing samples.

I've even been told on Discord groups to "go and write a book" because my entries were too long (according to them), and they "don't rp like that here". Apparently, I'm not "chill" enough to write lazy-lit on Discord. But this issue has affected me on other sites too.

It greatly affects my want to rp doing things like that.
I love making long starters, introducing the characters, and whatnot. But it bugs me when my writing isn't good enough for someone that I really tried to work with. I would've re-wrote that whole starter if it meant to get a small reply back. But again I can always find someone else who likes my style of writing.

Honestly, you just gotta wait and hold out for those compatible partners. That's what I've learned. I'm not gonna lie to you, though. It's a loooooong wait.

all about the balance, kinda like regular soldier and regular officer... gotta be willingly to mindlessly sacrifice yourself to the roleplay, AND be the officer that's gotta stress about running it

god forbid if you had to do both at the same time

Honestly, I don't even go out of my way to seek RP's anymore. It's hard to find compatible partners who won't ghost like two posts in.

One of things that really got me upset was when it was completely clear the person did not read my interest check completely, they just saw something they wanted to RP and messaged me without looking at the rest. So they messaged me saying they wanted to RP one of my plots. I was glad to brainstorm, and halfway through brainstorming, I realize they didn't read one of the first things I mentioned in my interest check. They wanted a type of pairing I don't write, and then went on to say "oh sorry, I only do that kind of pairing." And all the brainstorming that was prior to that pretty much went to waste. They just laughed it off as no big deal and left, and I was left alone and upset.

Granted, I'm partially at fault for not having made sure they read the rules of my interest check first, but still, it made me get upset that I spent so much time getting hyped up and brainstorming with someone who didn't even bother to read one of the first things I wrote in my interest check. Still, it is the first time I have that happen to me, so I'm grateful for the other people I've messaged to RP with. Even if some of them didn't end up being compatible with me, at least they bothered to read the important details before messaging me.

When I message people after reading their interest checks, I like to provide a lengthy message where I bring up every single relevant thing they said in their interest check, including what they're looking for in an RP partner, and why I believe I fulfill those requirements, I like to be thorough to show that I did read everything they had to say, while also talking about my own writing style so that they can decide if I'm the kind of RP partner they're looking for or not. Now, of course, I don't expect that same level of detail from others, since I know not everyone has as much free time as I do, but I do expect that if they're messaging me after seeing my interest check, they have at least read what I said there.

honestly, that's why I've gotten like super picky about what I'll even get into now. My time is scarce, and I've just gotten really, really weary of settling for things that I was only half into, and they dont work out in the end anyway. So I've just really pulled back on my compromises.

More times than not compromise simply doesn't work in RP. It often means that the writer forced to make compromises for the sake of their partner is just not as invested in the story. Certainly that has been the case for me, especially when I have a very specific vision in mind.

True. Many times "compromising" just means that you have to do something you don't want to do for the sake of roleplaying, and in the long run it just makes you lose the motivation to roleplay very quickly. That's why if I potential roleplay partner is asking me to do a lot of compromising just so we can RP, then more times than not I'll just politely tell them I don't think it's going to work. There's not much of a point of getting into something you're not really interested in writing.

Same tbh. I will usually tell a potential partner straight up that their ideas for the RP just don't mesh with my own.

The way I see it, an RP request is put out by the author in hopes that someone (or a group of someones) will come around and really be looking for what they are serving. But when the conversations start to proceed in a "Well, I'll do this, but I'm not into that." Or, "I'll go for that thing, but only if you can do this for me."

That sucks. The whole point isn't to compromise on your idea. The point is to find people that really dig what you're selling. Of course you dont want to get super specific and outline everything that THEY are going to be or do. Cause then you wont find anyone to RP with. But when they start chipping away at your basic premise.... fuck that.

When i try to get into group RPs, I generally have some kind of notion as to who and what I want to make my character like. So I'll pitch that. And if i have to cut back too far from my initial idea. I just bow out.

But I digress...

when people ping multiple times a day to try and get a faster response. i get it, when you're into a thread you want to make things carry on faster, but i have a real life that i need to prioritise over my hobbies.

also, when i say i don't want to rp something and then they just put it in the thread anyway. best way to make me realise you don't care about my enjoyment :/

Romance can be cool at the right time and as long as it's not taking over everything. That doesn't mean five posts in the roleplay having your character do everything to have my character fall in love with them. It also doesn't mean creating another character just to make yours appear attractive and sought after to my character will work either. If anything it just makes me want to toss my guy off a cliff.

When I'm planning a rp with someone and they don't contribute 😡

Worse version of this is when I give a few ideas or such and they just say "yeah" essentially instead of saying if they like any of the ideas. I don't know if they just aren't interested or what 😤

See I tell all my partners off the top I have a lot of headcanons. I don’t mind using them for roleplays and I do try to give my partners as many options as possible.

I think sometimes I can be overwhelming and people just bounce without giving me any feedback. But my current partner is the best, they basically said “hey this isn’t really stuff I’m good at and I’m too busy to do a lot of the planning, just send me docs and I will read them.”

Which is nice cuz I have the info already written and I don’t feel like I’m just talking to thin air.

I just posted recently but got another thing annoying me today...

I approached someone for a rp, stating I only play OCs because I can't connect with canon characters the same way. They reply expressing interest in rping with me, but when I share my OCs they tell me OCs are overused.
Then why did you agree to rp with me???? I told you from the beginning I only use OCs!

If you don't want to rp against OCs, then don't start plotting with someone who's told you they only play OCs! That simple, my dude!

Wait, so OCs - literally ORIGINAL characters/content are overused, but characters already invented by someone else are somehow not? Wow.
