Incoming message....
"Hello there, I am Professor Sherwood, if you are seeing this message than it means you're
application for a Pokemon Trainer's License has been approved and you can now
begin your Pokemon Journey! Well sort of, before you can be sent out to explore the U.S.
and begin befriending Pokemon you must attend the National Pokemon Convention in New York.
You'll find me there ready to give you your starter Pokemon, along with a few other items you'll need.
I do believe that is all, I hope to see you soon.”

Intro
Welcome to Pokémon Earth, an idea that will (hopefully) span across multiple countries as players explore a world much like our own, except with Pokémon. The first location on the list is the U.S., as you read above you’ll begin in New York with the National Pokémon Convention and from there where you go and what you do is up to you!

Battling
I'm not too sure of how I want the Pokemon battles to work, I've met people who prefer to simply work out who will win in the OOC and then RP the battle out, I know others who prefer to use Pokemon Showdown, and I'm sure a few of you have some other ideas. So instead I've decided to let you all pick in the poll above.

Pokemon Law
Since this is the real world and Pokemon would take the place of animals there have a been a lot of laws put into place in order to protect Pokemon and regulate battling. The most important is the Declaration of Pokemon and Human Relations created by the U.N., you can read up on that in the the spoiler below. Also just to keep things simple the U.S. will be following most if not all of the expectations outlined in the Declaration.

THE DECLARATION OF POKEMON AND HUMAN RELATIONS
This document is hereby made with the intent of regulating Pokemon trading, battling, breeding, and hunting, as well as protecting the rights of both Pokemon and Humans in any and all situations.

Section 0: Owning Pokemon
. Every person that owns a Pokemon is required to have a license, licenses may be given to those 16 or older
. Any person under that age may apply for a permit that will allow them to own 1 Pokemon

Section 1: Battling & Trading
. Every nation may have a Pokemon League, this League will include the nation's Pokemon Gyms (with there being no more than 10), Regional Tournament, Elite Four, and Champion
. The process of selecting Gym Leaders, the Elite Four, and the original Champion is left up to the Government
. A person must collect all Gym Badges (given to them by Gym Leaders) within a Nation in order to participate in the Regional Tournament
. Winners (amount is decided by the Government) of a Regional Tournament are to be given the chance to then battle the Elite Four
. Should a person defeat the Elite Four they may then battle the Champion, should the Champion be defeated the winner is given the choice of becoming Champion
. Pokemon battles, done outside a nation's Pokemon League, are illegal unless they are monitored and/or approved by a certified Pokemon Professor, Pokemon Medic, or a member of the Pokemon League
. Trading is to be done under the consent of all parties involved, including Pokemon
. Should a Pokemon not like its new owner than it is granted the right to return to its previous owner or escape to somewhere (or someone) else

Section 2: Breeding and Hunting
. Breeding and/or Hunting requires a license separate of one that allows a person to own Pokemon
. Breeding must be done in a humane manner that does not force any Pokemon into actions they do not want to take
. Only certain Pokemon may be hunted and must be hunted out of necessity
. The only exception is during special events in which one may hunt for sport

Section 3: Pokemon Rights
. Pokemon may not be treated in any way that may be categorized as abusive and/or inhumane
. A Pokemon's environment is to be left untouched unless a suitable home can be found
. Any exhibits holding Pokemon for entertainment must provide a suitable environment for the Pokemon
. Pokemon are not to be used as weapons of war
. Pokemon may be used as tools of justice, but must be done so under regulations that ensure both the human and Pokemon are happy and safe
. Pokemon may not be experimented on in any way that will remove them from their home and/or may be seen as inhumane

Rules
. Follow normal RPN rules
. Cursing is allowed
. Romance is allowed if kept at a PG-13 level and all parties involved are okay with it
. Write a sensible amount, a quick conversation may require just under a paragraph while an epic battle might need three paragraphs
. Try to stay away from one liners
. Try to stay active, I’m not looking for 10 posts a day but a few posts a week would be nice

Final Notes
If you have any questions feel free to ask me here or in a PM.

We should use a number generator to see if it hits (like rolls from D+D) and depending on the attack it will lower the hp of the pokemon. This will take place in OOC

It sounds like a great idea! I'm right into Pokémon at the moment!

Oh man, I LOVE pokémon RP. If I wasn't going to join one in this month already I'd so be in-- though I may still be tempted to still join later, are you open to later-joiners? And if so, how do you plan to do encounters with wild pokémon? ^_^

I'd be fine with someone joining later. People will choose how they want to do encounters, they can go the route of the games and fight Pokemon to catch them, they can have a drawn out encounter having to do with helping the Pokemon and making it their friend, or anything else they can think up. Of course they'll have to at least run the Pokemon by me to make sure they aren't catching something OP.

So the real question is, do I HAVE to be a new trainer? because I have a Professor-in-training character that I use all the time

No, you don't have to be a trainer. A Professor-in-Training could still tag along with the group as they travel, as for why they'd be with them I would either make them friends with someone in the group, or have them be assigned to the group by Professor Sherwood so they can experience the entire country and its Pokemon before they take their final steps towards becoming a Professor.

So what kind of team would my Professor-in-training have? My dear girl has an entire team, but I can cut it down to the bare essentials if need be.

Since they're a Professor-in-Training I would allow them to start with a team of three, one of the Pokemon can be in its second stage evolution with the other two in their first stage. (The one in second stage would need to have three stages in total while the other two would need at least two in total) This is mostly to leave room for your Pokemon to grow and change throughout the journey.

StorytellerLathos StorytellerLathos Quick question, what would the starters be? Would they be traditional starters like Bulbasaur, or would they be different?

The starters from every region will be available along with a fourth option that I feel fits in. Currently I’ve come up with this list.

Gen 1
Starters + Pikachu (For pretty obvious reasons)

Gen 2
Starters + Eevee (Due to the new eeveelutions intruduced, open to change)

Gen 3
Starters + Beldum/Ralts (I’m still deciding but both are popular Pokémon introduced in the generation, open to change)

Gen 4
Starters + TBD

Gen 5
Starters + TBD

Gen 6
Starters + Fletchling (Not too sure about this one, haven’t gotten to play too much of this gen but I've heard Talonflame is pretty popular, open to change)

Gen 7
Starters + TBD

Riolu for Gen 4 seems to fit but Gabite is a good contender as well. Rockruff, Grubbin, and Jangmo-o are currently competing for Gen 7. Axew is probably going to be the Pokemon for Gen 5 but I'll continue looking to see if there's anything else I'd consider.

This is a very interesting concept and I'm very excited about this as an idea and potential for a great rp! I would love to join if you are still accepting.

Also, the only question I do have is of the generations, do we get to choose which generation starter and bonus we get?

I would suggest keeping the winners of a fight at least somewhat uncertain and have the winner make it on top with a combination of Pokémon related maths and their own creativity, as in, if they picked up and threw something at an opponent, instead of just punching a Pokémon attack with set damage in, OOC decide if it should be different than what would normally happen or the same, that way Bidoof can't Toxic Dialga to death.
