Imperium Galactica

Shireling

A Servant of King and Country
Imperium Galactica is your prototypical soft science fiction nation builder set in the Milky Way Galaxy circa 3100 AD.

Humanity has ascended to become an interstellar civilization, only to encounter other races with various biological compositions, societies, cultures, polities, and imperial ambitions. By the 27th Century, the Grand Human Empire has disintegrated into a myriad of nations competing for the resources of the Galaxy with human and non-human alike.

The Setting

Imperium Galactica is set in the Milky Way Galaxy in the semi-distant future. Humanity is divided into several polities that are collectively known as the Humanish Worlds. Players wishing to play as human nations will not be in control of all of humanity, but rather a political organization of a fraction of all humans. Additionally, Earth is under the control of the Sol Confederation, so any player who wishes to control Earth will have to play that faction. I will accept a maximum of six human factions. Humans control one fourth of the Galaxy.

The rest of the Galaxy is controlled by non-humans. These aliens can be humaniform (human-looking) or completely alien. They may have any level of technology, so long as it does not give them a grossly unfair advantage in multiple areas (military, espionage, etc.) I will approve or disapprove of any nation sheets before their entrance into the RP and inclusion on the map.

I will create a map with the factions and their homeworlds represented. No one empire may control more than 1/4 of the Galaxy at the start of the game. Additionally, the size of a nation on the map is not necessarily an indication of military power.

Rules and Guidelines

Generally speaking, you have complete control over all the individuals in your empire. You have the ability to do anything reasonably within your nation's capacity. I will moderate conflicts between nations. The following is completely banned:

1. God Moding (The Ban Hammer will hit you hard on this one.)

2. Metagaming.

I will structure the RP in such a way that there is an overarcing villain that the players can choose to fight together or alone, or to ignore and fight amongst themselves. When defeating the boss, the participating nations will get to divide the loot.

FTL communications are achieved by a device called an Instantenous Ansible that uses Tachyons to send communications. A transmission can be broadcast from one end of the Galaxy to another with a delay of roughly twenty four hours. This is the standard means of communication for galactic civilizations.

FTL travel is executed by ships with "hyperspace" or "slip-space" drives, devices that change the quantim vibrational frequency of the ship's particles to allow it to travel through a parallel space-time dimension that is smaller than the observable universe. The most powerful slip space engines can make a trip across the Galaxy in roughly six Terran months, although the travellers on the ship experience only about one tenth of that due to time dilation. Slip space travel, despite being common, is dangerous, hard on navigation systems, and can make astronauts violently ill. Auditory and visual hallucinations are common in humans and other similar races while FTL travelling, and "slip space madness" is common. For this reason, many empires use Jump Gates that create a hyperspatial connection between two points, allowing near-instantaneous travel at a heavy energy cost.

Shout out to, and a plea for assistance to, @Jarkov Malachai

I like the idea behind this one. I'd be interested in joining up. I have been hoping to get to play some kind of Empire or Confederation in a state of decay and the tone of this game sounds like it could accommodate that well.

The Sol Confederation, as I imagine it, is a bureacracy-choked morass of a government with its peripheral worlds constantly having to be reconquered from rebellions. Its main claim to legitimate power is that it controls Earth and that's about it.

I would be the Free Miners, a faction of space-born humans that split off from rhe Sol Confederation a few generations back and set themselves up in the Milky Way's Asteroid Belt. They're well-suited to zero-g environments but unable to land on planets without protective wear. Their fleet has incredibly strong armor, but lacks speed or firepower, and during war they utilize a sort of power armor once designed for work outside of the ship instead of traditional fighters.

Basically, the society of my faction is set up as 1 ship = 1 Family. Though bigger Families can have a few more ships. Families are basically autonomous communes, with a leader called either the Father or Mother respectively. Everyone else commonly has the the title of Sister or Brother when spoken to. Young men and women are prized breeding stock, and are often traded to ensure good relations and maintain a healthy gene pool. The Free Miners only unite, or even interact aside from automated trading, when at war. The Grandfather, or Grandmother, or more simply the oldest Father or Mother of any Family, has the power to declare war. The Free Miners speak English primarily, but pushes have been made to establish a less wasteful language, as some Fathers and Mothers believe oxygen is too precious to waste just to speak the same tongue as Homeworld.

Sounds good to me. Sort of semi-nomadic?

Just so you guys can start filling out a legitamate faction sheet, here's the format:

Faction Name:

Faction Type: (kingdom, republic, private military corporation, pirate syndicate, etc)

Composite Species: (all species that are considered full members of the faction, does not include slaves)

Stardate Founded:

Overview:

Leader(s):

Military Overview:

Society and Culture:

Technology:

Ambitions/Goals:

For those playing a human nation, you'll definitely want to iron out a stance towards the Kefalonian Empire, my faction. Here's their overview so you know what you need to about them:

The Kefalonian Trade Empire is a large nation containing over one hundred billion souls spread across roughly an eighth of the Galaxy. The Kefalonians are usually considered the most morally "good" species in the cosmos and are known to be great mediators of disputes between the other polities of the Milky Way.

Kefalonians are tall, physically strong humanoids that hail from the frigid planet Kefalonia and are adapted to planets with cold climates and high gravity. Much of their society resembles human civilizations of the early industrial period, with an embrace of handiwork and a distaste for computers. Despite this, they are highly skilled travellers of the cosmos and have been a spacefaring race since the Terran 19th Century.

Kefalonians made first contact with Humanity in the 23rd Century, sparking controversy in both peoples because of their biological similarities. The Kefalonians found the Humans as a validation of their own religious beliefs in a vast cosmic family of species made in God's image, while Humanity was divided between those who welcomed the Kefalonians as protectors and brethren, and those that saw them as unwelcome interlopers and potential competition. By the 24th Century, Humanity had severed all ties with the Trade Empire, but Human colonies on the border began to rebel and join the Kefalonians under the promise of material prosperity, military protection, and political stability. This led to the Border Wars between the Kefalonians and a group of insurgents, the Knights of Ruske, who were funded as proxies of the Earth government. After a lengthy engagement, the insurgents were defeated and the war crimes of the Ruske were laid squarely at the feet of the Council of Worlds on Earth, which hastened the demise of the Grand Human Empire into a patchwork of minor polities of more or less barbarism. Many of these former provinces of the Empire chose to join the Kefalonians, contributing to the sizeable Human population of the Empire.

Whelp. Time to Warhammer.

I'd like to reserve a spot, because I can't do a nation sheet right now .

Your plea has been heard goodman Shireling. Whatever can I assist you with my friend?

Whelp. Time to Warhammer.

I think you'd find Shireling opposed to anyone trying to pull such a thing from the 40k. Great Lore, dont get me wrong its a pretty interesting universe. But not great for interactions when its just PURGE HERETICS. Now I dont know for sure what Shireling would do in such a situation, but @Shireling DAMN well knows what I would do. It wouldnt be pretty.

I don't mind borrowing elements from Warhammer or other franchises or historical periods. Hell, the Kefalonians are basically St. Thomas's perfect crusader kingdom in Victorian Britain with spaceships that like cars and robots. Just as long as it's within reason.

Anyways, I was hoping you could help me iron out the first boss. I'm thinking either the Constructors I was talking about several months ago, or something similar to the Mule from Foundation.

Of course, best either hit me up with a PM or on... well I dont have discord at the moment, using a temp computer so PM it most definitely will have to be.
Cant let spoilers come out now eh? (*furiously digs through pms to find that damn pm which had all that shit on it*)

By the way, on another note, throw in a Ravens feather in there at some time for me as a reference to a friend eh? Shits and giggles no one else will ever understand.

Quick question. What's this Rps stance on robots and A.Is? I have a couple of ideas buzzing around. Though if your worried about a slightly cliche A.I nation I'm not doing that.

If I enter this would be my first nation builder, I was thinking of either a race similar to humans and that may have evolved from humans

We welcome noobs and will assist in any way we can in giving you an enjoyable experience. Since humanity has been a spacefaring race for a little less than a millenia, they haven't evolved into different branch species yet. But it is possible to have races that look similar to humans but are not related. The Kefalonians, for instance, are taller and stronger than humans but very much human looking. They do not share a common anscestor.

Cool, I'm just gonna fill in the Faction Sheet and get that out the way.

C.R.o.U.S..png

Faction Name:

The Colonial Republic of United Systems

Faction Type:

Democratic Republic

Composite Species:

Human [Including Sub-Species]

Jixan

Binakian

Mignal

Lunian

Ulinitium

Muln

Star Date Founded:

2894 A.D.

Overview:

The Colonial Republic of United Systems is a pan-galactic multi-species government originating from an earlier Earth-based federal faction that were responsible for uniting a number of Alien species under a single banner. This formal government had first formed as an act to bring peace between seven Member Species after the Muton-Jenum War, which saw many die during the conflict.

The C.R.o.U.S. has become engaged in many major political and military conflicts, most notably the Nixan Crisis where soldiers of the 125th 'Black Top' Mechanised Infantry Division under the Systems' Army had successfully defended many political embassies from rebel insurgents.

The Systems now act as a major galactic policing force amongst the stars, in an attempt to prevent the downfall of society within the galactic theatre.

Leader(s):

Chancellor Nicholas McMullin

Assistant Advisor Nunx Wildrix

Senior Marshal William Hendrick

Admiral Of The Fleet Hinok Cullul

Flight Marshal Yiv Tenessia

Military Overview:

The Armed Forces of the Systems are widely known for their elite training, strong willpower and sturdy discipline among the many other military forces present in the Galaxy. The Armed Forces are composed of several branches, which in turn are composed of a number of corps and so forth. The most notable of these are currently:

The C.R.o.U.S. Army

The C.R.o.U.S. Galactic Navy

The C.R.o.U.S. Aerospace Corps

The C.R.o.U.S. Colonial Marines

The C.R.o.U.S. Military Reserves

The C.R.o.U.S. Planetary Guard

The Marine Commando Operations

The Special Commando Regiment

The Enhanced Genetic Assault Corps

Society and Culture:

Culture amongst the Systems varies greatly between the planets under its banner. However, all of these separate societies must follow a fixed set of laws established by the governing body's Law Committee.

Religion is quite diverse amongst the Member Species, but is uncommon between Humans of the Systems.

Technology:

The Systems is a technologically-advanced government due to the rapid introduction of new forms of technology between the Member Species. The technology of the Systems has faced much backlash from foreign religious groups due to its rapid progression, and has been a leading cause in the degrade of religiously-active persons. Some of the most advanced technology of the Systems has seen use within the Armed Forces, before being utilised for civil purposes.

Ambitions/Goals:

The main goal of the Systems is to maintain galactic order, and has thus taken on the role as a policing force across the stars.

Looks good to me. Maybe a little heavier on details, but that can be developed in RP.
