Hey All,


So the site should stop going down from now on every so often but that was mostly @Ghan and I doing on the fly server work and trying to find the perfect balance of linodes over at linode.com. So the site should be stable moving forward now with all downtimes being scheduled and announced in advance again.


Here are some of the updates that have happened over the last couple of days since the last announcement on thursday.

• Site Questions's answer/question mode was disabled and turned back into a regular forum.
  
• Feedback was sent back into Site Questions.
  
• The Old System of Thread RPing has been restored.
  
• The new RP system has been made a new hosted project system with out an application. You just need 250 posts to be able to make one, down from the previous 1000 and an application on the previous site.
  
• All the sections on the homepage should have an icon now (will do subforums in the future).
  
• Updated to the latest version of our new software, should come with a ton of performance updates for better speed.
  
• Moved all Avatars/Attachments to amazon storage. That finished last night, if some images are still wonky in posts, editting it and reinserting the attachments will auto fix it.
  

One of the big updates here is that we are not forcing the new system to be the only system as described in the quick points above. This is both from feedback and server limitations. Not every roleplay needs the entire power of an invite system, having several boards, etc. Hosted Projects are like mini sites. Most RPs only need 1-3 threads which the regular system lets you do, they just aren't tabbed. So under each genre you have forums for like OOC, Characters and Extra Pages for everything else. We might waive the 250 post requirement in the future based on feedback for HPs but we will see. The true dream is for those to be the entire site !

You'll need someone to edit the Tutorial section as the images are still broken. It's hard to navigate as to how to post a role play without the images. (Which I am still trying to figure out >.<)

Edit: That came across as a really negative and ungrateful comment, I apologize for throwing it up in the Staff's face about the one feature that had to be removed as compared to all of the additions and hard work they have put into the site over the last few weeks. It's so easy to look at all of the "don't haves" instead of noticing all of the "do haves". Staff-Chan(s?), you collectively have kept an incredible international site that brings together people from all over the world to play and communicate and fellowship, as so often we take for granted the work that you put into this community without earning a single payment from it other than personal satisfaction and a well-run site. For all the hard work you've done in the past, are working on in the present, and will invent in the future, we appreciate you and your efforts! Thanks for keeping the still-greatest RP site on the internet running for all of us players around the world. We hope to see some new features soon, and hopefully bring back some old favorites, but for now, keep up the incredible and fantastic work you've been doing!

I hate to say that the tabbed threads were really the highlight of the old RP system, without that convenience of having all your threads in one place and having to play scavenger hunt, it's really like any other average forum site. I know that was a feature that isn't available with the current system, but finding a replacement/substitute feature that provides the same service would do wonders for making the regular RPs more accessible for the common player who doesn't want to manage a miniature site just to gather a few players together for some fun with writing. 

The reason why other average forum sites don't have it is because it was commissioned for us by us. Due to all the issues on the old system and not being able to get people to code for us because no one really wanted to code for the previous platform meant that the Tab system was on its last legs. It is high on my list to find something to make it easier but for now everyone will have to make do.

Dwiz, if you'll take a look at my comment again, I think you'll find I've edited it to be more appropriate to the situation. You guys have done a fantastic job with what you've been given, and you've given us even more than we've expected, we can only be appreciative of what is available and support you all in your quest to expand and improve on that base. You guys rock, and even if there's a bout of selfish ungratefulness that rears its ugly head every now and then, you all keep pressing on for the good of the whole community. Keep it up and we're behind you all the way!

I have been told this could take anywhere from one day to 3+ months... unfortunately. 


Even then, it won't be actual bbcode. It will be buttons in the editor that can mimic the effects of bbcode.

Will it be possible to change the settings for the emojis to not automatically replace the symbols? I personally prefer to play around with some of the symbols to create unique faces and such, and the emoji tend to pop up in the middle and ruin the effect, I just prefer symbols to smileys personally xD  <Case in point, the smug little bastard XD.

The announcement says it was shifted due to user feedback and server limitations. 


The new system still exists. You just need to have 250 posts in order to make a roleplay within it.

Just a question for clarification (I'm sorry if I'm being troublesome...haha...). For the hosted RPs that have the new RP'ing system, do you need 250 posts in order to post an RP in it, or do you also need 250 posts in order to even just RP there (not GM'ing an RP, but just joining it as a member)?

I have a few people brand new to the site rping in some of my rps within that section. I am fairly certain the 250 post requirement is just in place for people to make rps within that section.

Okay, so this question has probably already been ask but it's mostly got to do with the new BBcode system that's going to be added eventually. When BBcode does come back, will there still be an option to write the coding yourself like before the big site update? Or will it all be done by buttons from now on?

Hiding a post is the equivalent of deleting it. 

While I understand this and it does have some good applications (hiding posts that aren't ready to be revealed), it is frustrating not to be able to completely be rid of posts that have absolutely no use anymore.

It doesn't work like this, actually. 


When you hide a post, you can't restore it. Only site staff can restore a hidden post.
