Figure I may as well do this now rather than keep procrastinating it. This is all just possible future relationship vibes between Rel-Taren and other characters, based largely on personality with a dash of backstory. Likely subject to change once the IC itself gets rolling and his personality gets to marinate longer.

Odessa: Outside of their rivalry and kinship as gunners, Rel-Taren would probably be most interested in engaging in Odessa because of her knowledge of fashion. Foreign clothes, foreign world, after all. He knows little of fabrics and styles, but understands the class differences established through fashion. And if his people were to be recognized as more than just savages who committed cruelty upon cruelty in order to beat back the Sorenti...well, first off, it'd be good if there were clothes that complimented their form.

I love this and Odessa would 500% help him find something stylish and functional. I'm also laughing at the fact that he seems to dislike nobles as much as she does.

He absolutely could, but doesn't out of respect for other people. Taking on someone else's personal appearance is kind of a massive social taboo in Katasteri culture, akin to desecrating a grave.

He'd be pretty furious at her, then furious with Marik for going along with it. Marik being True!Marian's family makes it arguably worse in his eyes that he just allows and condones this desecration to happen.

I imagine that once he understands her true circumstances there'd be some level of sympathy that she's essentially been forced to do this, and horror that she wants to stop but can't.

For some context, a huge part of Katasteri culture, particularly noble culture, is the concept of one's own life as a narrative you glorify. That who you are and what you have done is a story worth telling, worth adding to the story of your House. That your name is worth repeating. Because of Katasteri biology, stealing someone else's appearance is really easy, and due to that cultural importance, it's viewed akin to...

"Stealing someone else's life", in a sense. Taking who they are and what they have done for yourself and simultaneously abandoning who you are and what you have done. Which is why it's a massive desecration.

Not!Marian being forced into taking on Marian's life would thus be a double-damning on Marik's part: He didn't just have someone else take on his daughter's story, identity and deeds, he simultaneously forced his daughter's friend to abandon her own.

Just, all kinds of fucked up from the Katasteri cultural perspective.
