LASTING LIGHT
THE SAMARITANS
INTRODUCTION.
Lasting Light might be considered to be a typical Zombie Apocalypse Roleplay. But you're not going to be a part of a typical group, you'll be one of The Samaritans.or one of their targets
The Roleplay will be set a little less than fifteen months into the apocalypse when the majority of the population has already perished and there are only a few small societies still standing. Most of those who are left are either surviving on their own or have joined up with others to make some sort of safe haven in this dangerous world.
Our characters will be among the well-organized, ruthless group that is just now planning to move into the new territory. Their naturally fortified base might be safe haven for some but it's hell for others. Prison origins and pack mentality - it's a harsh reality where a bunch of top dogs and their "dictator" are in charge of the majority. Majority of the hard working people, some of them rescued survivors, others assimilated involuntarily.
There are many roles to choose from. You can be the merciless leader, one of his loyal weasel men, a scout, a medic, or maybe one of the less fortunate members, maybe someone who's conspiring or planning a riot… or even a stranger who's about to encounter them all.
If you're a 18+ fan of relaxed-paced apocalyptic roleplays, read on. If you want to join the group only for a limited time that's welcome as well but then please let me know you're in for a short-term, not the defaultly long-term roleplay.
ROLES.
Roles are not gender locked.
The descriptions should be treated as inspiration.
Roles are open to your interpretation and alternative ideas, just run them by me first.
Note: I just want to remark that scavs/scouts are not the only people going on the scav runs. Medics for obvious reasons, enforcers as security, and other members (ex. someone who knows a particular area tags along as a guide, or someone who needs a specific part to fix some machine tags along to help locate it) also will participate. Sometimes even the high ranking leaders will join.
Leader 1/1
This person is in charge of The Samaritans from the start. They come from the original group that "founded" the community. They are either one of the ex-inmates or part of the prison personnel, perhaps they were even a warden. This person is the "tyrant" who makes the organization thrive...but at what cost.
Second-In-Command 1/1
Leader's close friend, they've been through a lot together and even if not always seeing eye to eye, they're like "brothers". Second-In-Command is the main advisor, widely respected (maybe even a "parental figure" of the whole community?). Rumor has it that many would prefer them to be the person in charge in place of the merciless Leader.
Right-Hand-Man 1/1
He's unofficially the Third-In-Command who joined the community just six months ago but earned the respect of the people and the trust of the leader early on. He's dangerous all the same but most diplomatic of the three. He's the guy that's sent to get things done outside of the base, their emissary.
Medics 2/3 (male preferred)
These are the people with any kind of medical training or knowledge that can be used to help sick or injured. They could be someone who was the prison medic or someone who joined the community after the outbreak.
Scavengers/Scouts 2/3
These are the people who lead the scavenge runs, who go out into the world to find whatever they can to bring back to the base. They're valued among the community. They also have direct opportunity to steal or smuggle some goods to make personal profit without the knowledge of the men in charge. As long as they don't get caught…
Enforcers 3/4
("bad person" preferred)
Even an organization with criminal origins has its police. Enforcers act as guards, pacifiers, or escorts for important people and shipments. Maybe they were correctional officers back in prison days? Or maybe they are power-high ex-prisoners playing cops. Or just normal people who have the right size, skill, or authority and notice an opportunity in such line of work.
Priviledged 0/2 (new)
Special kind of members who are either high ranked Samaritans and ex-prison gangs bosses and their loyal "soldiers", or the people who are close to them (family members, lovers). The high ranked Samaritans are usually supervising all crucial sectors like the food services, weaponry, other.
The minority of the Priviledged are not ex convicts but extremely valuable assets, awarded for their merit with a comfortable and secure life.
Members 2/~
The normal members of the group do any number of tasks/jobs to help the group with whatever skills they have. Some feel used and oppressed, treated like slaves. They could be lower rank (or degraded) ex-convicts, random survivors rescued by Samaritans or other communities' members who were forcefully assimilated into the faction. Or perhaps some of them were unlucky family members visiting their relatives in prison during the outbreak. Or a priest working in the death row wing. Sky is the limit.
Loners/Others 2/~**
Loners are the people (or whole families) who aren't living with the group. They either don't know The Samaritans are out there or they hide and refuse to join, but will soon encounter them.
Others could be members of communities that are terrorised into working for The Samaritans as their vassals. They could act as diplomats or traders coming from their original community, or provide special services for The Samaritans.
**Note: Loners and Others can't make more than around 30% of the roleplay cast.
RULES.
1. RPNation rules apply, and due to the dubious nature of the characters for this group, please be 18+ and not sensitive to topics like violence, abuse, substance use, bigotry, and anything else one can associate with prison culture.
2. No OOC drama. Just be nice and respect one another, it's simple. However IC drama is encouraged.
3. Try to post once every week or so, this can be difficult especially if you end up waiting on someone else's post so I'm not going to keep up with who does and doesn't. Mostly it's just me asking you to try and not hold everyone up too often is all.
4. If you're going to be absent just let us know! (Simply message me privately if you like.) Ghosting someone you are interacting with or the group in general for a long period of time isn't fun for anyone. And if you'd rather drop the roleplay it's understandable. :]
Roleplay Rules
A. Two character maximum for the time being. But you're encouraged to make periodic characters (i.e. your side characters who appear only once in a while for a post or few), NPCs (i.e. characters who can be controlled by other roleplayers), and temporary characters (i.e. main/side characters who die or get lost early on).
B. Aim for realistic characters who act in tune with their backstory and the setting. They can be straight up bad guys (but they still should be humans with fears and desires), or good men turned bad due to circumstances. Good-good guys are allowed, though, they probably wouldn't be a part of the people in charge of The Samaritans but strangers or slaves instead.
C. Real face claim's only, sorry. If that's an issue for you then feel free to write out a description.
D. No one-liners. This is a semi-literate roleplay and a 1-2 paragraph minimum is what I'm aiming for, but frankly I'm a fan of quality over quantity. Not that you can't have both.
Disclaimer: This will be a completely independent story that is a part of the Lasting Light universe - an ongoing roleplay that our brand new group will encounter and interact with at some point in the future.
Until then?
This is The Samaritans story. Let's write it!
If you're interested in joining please send a character pitch to Bullyboy Squad (just a short description of the idea you have). Once he checks it out he'll let you know if you have green light to work on the CS or you need to make some adjustments.
Hi all, this is a fresh Interest Check for a brand new group of seasoned survivors.
But don't get fooled.
There are no good guys here.
