Dear Sir/Madam,

Greetings! I am Administrator Carolyn Wallace. If you are receiving this letter, you have been admitted to our facility and will be joining us here in the coming days. On the outside, Silver Gates Institute is simply a correctional facility for troubled men, women, and children. They are victims of strange circumstances and tragedy, and find refuge here. On the inside, however, it is a home to supernatural and magical beings, those who cannot (or will not) control their powers, and are shunned by the outside world as freaks or monsters.

I promise you, here in our home, you will not be treated as such. We are a family dedicated to helping our own, and we will assist you in alleviating whatever may trouble or ail you.

Many of the patients here see this place as a hospital, a place of healing.

A few see it as a haven, an escape from their infamy.

Others view it as a center of learning, a way to control their abilities and live normal lives.

What you make of your new home will be entirely up to you.

I will impress no illusions upon you. Regardless of your reasons for joining this family, our staff will accept you with open arms, but if you choose not to obey our rules and respect the virtues of the establishment, I ensure that our embrace will be merciless. In any case, I welcome you, and hope that you will make the best of your time here with us.

Yours faithfully,

Chapter One:

Beyond the Silver Gates

_

"You have a real promising batch this time, don't you Carol?"

A thick puff of smoke erupted from behind an open blue file, held up by two strong, middle-aged hands. As the folder lowered, the gentle face of a grey-haired man was revealed. Pinched between his lips was a high quality torpedo cigar, with a tip of glowing embers. The man smiled across the a waxed ebony desk before setting the file on a stack that rested before him. On the opposite side, a youthful woman with rich black hair gazed back at him, her pale lips flecked with a hint of a smile.

"Yes... however small a group, what matters is the quality of the patient."

As she spoke, her eyes drifted toward the window, spying a tour bus round a street corner in the distance. Her expression seemed to brighten at its approach.

"Of course, I won't know the true quality until I actually meet them." Patting her cheeks, Dr. Carolyn Wallace rose to her feet with a surge of energy. "Will you be joining me this time, Roland?"

Roland rose from his seat. He was dressed in a gray business suit, which concealed his powerful body. Pondering her question momentarily, he responded.

"No... I think I have my hands full enough with Raine." A mild frown touched his features. "Just finding the time for our staff meetings every day is a pain with that boy."

Carolyn glanced at him as she approached the door leading out of her office.

"We'll find a way to get through to him Roland... somehow."

Giving a hearty laugh, Roland waved a hand at her as he followed her out of the office.

"After six years... don't blame me if I don't believe you, Carol."

_

"Alright everyone! The Institute is just around the corner!"

A cheery voice called from the front of the bus. Despite the abundant seating, there were only a handful of new patients being transported this trip.

"Now I know it might be hard living in a strange place with a bunch of people around, but I promise, as long as you don't cause problems, you'll have a good experience."

The young woman driving the bus was Aly Anderson, one of the guidance counselors at the institute. Her light brown hair seemed to cradle her face as she smiled back at her passengers.

"You know, I was raised here myself!"
she claimed enthusiastically, "The people here are pretty nice."

Aly kept addressing the patients as they rounded the next corner. A massive estate gleamed in the sunlight ahead, from the clean cut lawns to the sparkling white walls. The grounds were surrounded by an ornate wrought fence, but the gate leading into the property reflected the sky like a mirror, made of radiant silver.

"The purity of the future, it all rests with the patients behind these gates. Soon, you all can be a part of this future."

Seemingly by a mystical force, the glimmering gates into the estate swung open as the bus drew near, then closed quietly after it passed through. Aly steered the machine quietly around the decorative fountain, and to rest in front of the main entrance. Waiting outside was a beautiful woman wearing dark vibrant hair and a elegant business suit. She was followed by a small entourage of men and women, each of whom held a small clipboard and pen. Further behind the group was a gathering of young men, women, and children, presumably other patients. She beamed as the new arrivals filed off of the bus, then waved them forward.

"Welcome! I hope the trip wasn't too long..." she spoke in a very clear and ringing voice, but one that seemed to vibrate with power and authority. "My name is Carolyn Wallace, and this is the Silver Gates, our home."

The woman gestured gracefully to the magnificent structure behind her, then returned her focus to the patients.

"Before you enter, I'd like you to introduce yourselves to the family, and we can proceed to get you settled in!" Her lips curved into another grin as she watched the arrivals eagerly. "Come now, don't be shy."

Horus stepped off theb us and stopped in front of the group. He rested his hands in his pockets and looked up at the stern looking women.

"Hello im Horus im 16 years old and i can control things with my brain." Horus smiled and walked a little distance away from the roup next to some trees awaiting the woman to escort us around the premises

(sorry it short i have school)

Delaney had been sitting at the front of the bus, completely unaware of any chatter through the main lady speaking or any idle mouths running behind her. Her eyes, instead, were glued to outside, taking her mind with them. Being photosensitive, she usually avoided light and uv rays, but today was a considerably nice day.. and what feels like a changing point in her life. Date. Photo. Event. Mental photographic click.

She looked over to the large building as she felt the bus halt. Stepping off slowly, she heard a beautiful dark haired woman speak. Soo, they would meet eachother out here?

Being the first one out, and looking probably like a person thrown in the wash with too much bleach, she felt like she was out of place.. still. She felt the need to get cimfortable around these people.

"Um.. hey there." She said to nobody in particular.

Elizabeth got out of the bus quietly and looked at the others

"I'm Elizabeth" Elizabeth thought about sharing her powers or species with the others but she really didn't want to do it.

(I have to start school too)

Everything they were saying sounded awfully cliché. Seraphina knew about places like this- institutes, asylums, call them what you want- because her Auntie Emarni had told her everything about these creepy places. She wondered if they still used electric shock treatment and if it would hurt as much as her aunt described. But she didn't voice any of her fears to anyone, keeping quiet. There were lots of people here, all of them much older than her and none of them looking at her. She had to be the youngest here by quite a way. She twiddled with the ribbon tied at the end of her left braid, looking out of the window, until she felt the bus jolt to a stop. This was all happening much too quickly for Seraphina, who slid down in her seat. She'd been eager to find out what this place was like, to find other people like her... But now that she was here, she wasn't so sure anymore. She almost wanted to go home until she remembered that she didn't really have a home anymore. After all, home was where your family was. Seraphina couldn't exactly go see her family anymore.

She pulled the letter of invitation from her pocket and flicked it open, looking over the details once more. This was definitely the right place. People began filing out of the bus and Seraphina was unsure of where to go. She was a little stuck here without her wheelchair. She knew that they had it stored somewhere, hell she'd even watched them put it somewhere towards the back of the bus. Getting to it would be a problem for the crippled thirteen year old, who looked down at her scarred legs and let out a long sigh. The pain never seemed to leave her alone for more than five seconds. Seraphina looked out of the window at the people that had ventured out of the bus; three girls and one boy. There was a woman with glossy hair and a group of other people that had to be patients and staff here. She slid down further in her seat, not eager to meet all those people. Meeting people had never gone well for her in the past, normally ending in somebody dying horribly. She stayed where she was and waited, quietly, for somebody to come rescue her from this place. Because someone had to be coming to rescue her. Right?

Horus watched as everyone hopped off the bus and filed over to the group. He remeber seeing a wheelchair being pushed to the back and wondered if that person got off yet. He looked in the group and didn't see anyone with a wheel chair. He sighed and walked back on ti the bus. He didn't see anyone and was about to walk back off until he saw someone glimpsing over one of the chairs. "Hey are you the person with the wheelchair. I can help you out if you want." He steadily started walking towards the girl hopping not to scare her. He wondered why no one helped her off the first time and sighed and waited for the girls reply.

Seraphina looked up as the older boy approached her, frowning a little. He'd come back to help her?

"Um... Yes. That's me. And I'd appreciate some help, yes." She tilted her head slightly to one side, wondering if this boy was going to kill her. Most people tended to be like this; lure you in and then, stab your eyeballs out.

"I can't really use my legs. So... I'm kind of stuck here unless you help me." Seraphina forced a laugh, more than a little uneasy about this whole situation. She hated it, when she needed helping. It was humiliating. She smoothed her skirt over her legs, trying to cover the scars and scrapes from view.

Horus tilted his head to the side as he walked down the isle and grapped the wheel chair. He unfolded it in the isle and roled it down to her seat. She pulled her self into the seat and Horus escroted her outside the bus. "So whats your name, Mines Horus, Horus Vandleburn." He cautioslly walked down the bus stairs to the group. "We almost left her on the bus guys." He smirked at the thought of her banging on the bus window as it drove away with her still in it. He stopped and went to the front of her. He extended his hand hoping to get a handshake. He was always a good first impressionist he usually got along with others very well. Unless Carter decided to show up and ruin everything. He remembers his first date. They were just coming out of the restarant to go to the movies when to classmates of his walked up to him and thre multiple pee ballons at him. Before he could retalliate he blacked out. When he came to his date was screaming moster and running and he saw the two tudes wrapped in a pole squirming and screaming with both of them having mutliple broken limps.

Horus laughed at the memory and looked at the little girl.

Well, that confirmed it; the boy was just gazing at her blankly for a few moments and then he laughed. Uneasily, Seraphina edged away, a little concerned about the mental health of her new "friend". She took his hand hesitantly and shook it once, before letting go.

"Seraphina Vaccaria." she said, "It's... Nice to meet you." Nice wasn't really the word she'd use but she'd been taught good manners, "Your name... You're named after the Egyptian god of... War, I think? I'm named after an ancient angelic being. My parents are big fans of irony." She laughed, a little easier this time. She always liked her name and it's strange meaning. She also liked her parents very much. Her father was evil and a little hard on her sometimes, but he loved her deep down. And her mother... Even as she lay bleeding to death and mutilated, Seraphina's mother had been beautiful. Seraphina smiled softly.

He laughed. "Well i see i have my first already. Hey the tour is about to start we dont wan....

Horus fell to his knees with his eyes closed.

He reopened his eyes and stood but it wasnt Horus. "So this is where were gonna be living now huh. Horus, Horus you really know how mess things up." Carter slowly inched toward Seraphina and bent down.

"Hey little girl do you wanna see a trick." Carter glanced at the rose bush behind them and pulled up three roses with his telekenetic powers.

"These are for you." He floated the flowers her and slipped away towards the crowd

"Now time to start some chaos"he whispered and tilted his head sideways wearing a crooked smile.

Gwen was among the last people to get off the bus and was greeted along with the rest by a woman. "I'm Gwen and I seem to get angry at nothing sometimes so please forgive me if i ever insult you or have a go at you or punch you. I don't normally mean it and please run away if strange things start to happen around me. I mean, run away from me. It's just that bad things happen and i can't remember what i end did." She felt it was best to warn everyone in advance about her issues and hoped they would not outcast her as a result. She feared it was only a matter of time before she got involved with another incident and did not want to be executed for a mass murder that she could not remember.

Hm interesting a crazy short tempered vampire looking girl seems like just my type. Carter slithered over to were Gwen was standing. "Hey girl the names Car... i mean Horus" He tilted his head up and smiled. She will be a lovely ally, what was Horus thinking by trying ot befriend a crippled kid. "My ability is telekenetics. Im not so good with first impressions," Carter scratched his head and gave her another smile. "Um so do you wanna be friends, i dont like to feel lonely and you seem pretty awesome." He put his headed down a ave a malicious grin he was going to rule this academy. He knew he only had a little bit more time before Horus came back in control so he had to act quick.

@TheRoleplayingDovah

"It's nice to meet you Horus." Gwen slowly shook his hand. "I seem to teleportation as i sometimes find myself in random places. I've appeared inside the fish tank at a sea life resort before and it was very hard explaining why i had taken a swim with the fishes." She believed it was best to not reveal the true nature of her fire incidents yet and believed that her altered shark story would make for an amusing one.

Carter let out a gurgled laugh and sighed. Gaaahh no not yet i still havent finished my plan. Irritated as he knew his time was almost up tensioned his hands and raised them. As he raised them so did the few bushes around him. This should get him a little solataru time so he doesnt do anything while im gone. Laughed and dropped the four bushes on top of the staff and intentionally missed the Woman in front. "I understand completely Gwen ill see you....

Carter fell to his knees. When Horus came to he looked up and held his temples. "Oh god what happened this time." He looked at the scaryvampire looking at him. Meh she kind of cute in a scary way. He shooked his head its no time for that he just blacked out it was no time for things liked that. He hopped up and saw the staffed standin up from what looked like bushes. Two huge men ran his way and grabbed his arms. "What just happend Dammit Carter why today." He looked back at the girl in the wheelchair. Great now she'll think im a some crazy fool who love playing jokes that werent even funny, actually why do i care what she thinks i barely know her. He put his head down and let the gaurds guide him to wherever.

Zeke stood towards the middle back of the crowd, the strategically safest place from a frontal attack. The strange thing was that he had picked this spot subconsciously from pure instinct. Now, Zeke earphones on connected to one of his few, treasured belongings that he had "borrowed" from a guy when he first came to earth. It was a cassette player with cracks on it that looked like they were going to cause it to fall apart. However, it was functioning perfectly when classic rock blasted into Zeke's ears. Make no mistake, he could still hear beyond the music, but the classic rock calmed him.

Looking up at the colossal school, he let out a quiet, low whistle to himself. Ignoring the lady hat was now talking, Zeke simply stared in awe at its size and luxurious style. Someone who was use to the lifestyle he had lived wouldn't be use to seeing this high level of comfort. Suddenly, Zeke's attention snapped back to the crowd around him as commotion broke out. A boy was carried away by security guards for causing mayhem. Looking back at the enchanting women with dark hair, Zeke waited for her to speak once more.

"Franklin.... they're having a party. Why didn't they invite you? Why are they having a party in the first place?"

Nibbling his knuckle absently, Raine gazed down quietly from the lamppost he sat upon. His vibrant amber eyes, contrasted by the dark rings around them, flickered to and from each person below. As he glanced over the new arrivals, a grin cracked between his lips and his incisors pierced the thin flesh of his finger.

"Say, Franklin, it seems like you have some new friends."

Without further word, Raine hopped to his feet, balancing precariously upon the lampost before lowering himself and sliding down the pole. His bare feet slapped against the brick path near the bus, and droplets of blood spattered on the ground. He chuckled and waltzed quietly toward the nearest arrival. Her skin glinted in the sunlight, a vivid white that one would assume might blind a mere mortal. Rain patted the golem of flesh that sat upon his shoulder, before approaching her curiously. Peeking up at her, he picked energetically at the stitches sewn into his left cheek.

"Hmmm..." The sandy haired boy eyed her suspiciously before continuing, "I've never seen a porcelain doll before... I wonder if she is nicer than Franklin..."

Without any concern for etiquette, Raine touched her skin with his forefinger.

"Say... Franklin wonders if you are cold..."

He slid his other hand slid to the oversize black scarf that lay draped about his neck, and without hesitation, untied it. Upon a wave of his arm, the fabric soared through the air in an undulating motion, falling to rest around the girls shoulders.

"You can keep this one... Franklin can make another!" He laughed eerily, his bright eyes dancing in the sunlight.

_

"Raine!" A stern voice called. "Don't disturb the new patients... please."

Carolyn sighed as she watched the boy dance around before the albino girl.

Roland... you're supposed to keep tabs on him... she thought wearily.

With a slight jolt, she snapped her attention back to the patients filing off the bus. Some of them appeared broken or reclusive, while others seemed confident and unafraid, but they all shared a single common trait. They had nowhere else to go.

"Very well, I suppose you are all tired from the trip..." she spoke softly, yet clearly to those that were paying attention, "We have food prepared inside, and since it will be dark soon, you may wish to rest for the evening. Tomorrow I will be giving everyone their schedules and lay down the rules."

She smiled and approached them, "I know you may not be very trusting of us here, which is understandable. I can't replace your true families and loved ones, but... please give our family a chance. Everyone here has endured hardship, and we all want nothing more that to provide that shoulder for you all to lean on."

After leaving a moment for the words to sink in, Dr. Wallace glanced over a clipboard with a list of the patient's names. Clicking her pen enthusiastically, she beamed once more.

"No we must take roll, to make sure everyone actually made it here, so if you could please line-" She stopped midway through as one of the new male patients used telekinesis to raise several of the bushes from the ground and dumped them on the staff behind her. Several shocked cries erupted from them, after which two of her security personnel rushed forward to apprehend the boy. As he was brought before the administrator, she scrutinized his features.

"Hmmm, you must be little Horus!" she exclaimed, "Telekinesis is quite impressive..."

Smiling, she leaned in close, her face but inches from the handsome teenager.

"Yes... telekinesis is quite powerful indeed... many mages I've met in my lifetime have shown great skill in that craft." As she lifted her hand and settled it upon the boy's shoulder, a slight ringing sound could be heard from the magical ring on her finger. Her voice changed slightly, as the ring radiated a subtle power.

"To whatever mischeivous soul that dwells within this boy... I've also seen arrogant mages tear themselves apart with a flick of their wrist, or even simply a whip of their tongue... I'd remember this my young friend."

Chuckling, she backed away, a twinkle in her eyes.

"You may let him go... it isn't shocking for patients to lose control on their first day..." Shifting her gaze back at her subordinates, several of whom were covered in dirt, Carolyn frowned slightly.

"As for you all... I think that little dirt shower should be a nice wake up call... right?"

Seraphina was looking curiously at the new boy that was dancing around the pale girl. She looked both of them over with interest. The girl looked as if she'd been rubbed out by an eraser; her hair, her eyebrows, her skin were all a snowy white. The boy was considerably younger looking and she heard the woman call him... Rain? Ray? Raine? What a curious name for a young boy.

"Hm." Seffy fiddled with her left braid, messing with her purple ribbon. She watched as Horus went crazy and dumped dirt on the staff. She couldn't resist giggling a little, chewing on her ribbon. So, Horus possessed telekinesis. An intriguing and powerful skill. The woman was talking to him now, creepily close to him.

Seffy was very glad that she wasn't getting much attention, just sitting there watching the events unfold. She didn't particularly trust anyone here. She looked around once more, glancing up at the large building in terror. She wasn't sure she wanted to be here. She turned to Carolyn and smiled as best as nicely as she could.

"Miss Wallace?" Seffy said, as politely as she could manage, "We did not require a wake up call. We are all quite awake."

"I'll chat to you later." Gwen was a bit annoyed that Horus had chucked bushes near her and was unsure if he was messing with her or just trying to lure her into a trap. She saw him being dragged away a few seconds later and noticed that the staff were covered in dirt. She wondered how long they would be taking to welcome her and the other patients.

POP!

She found herself on the roof. "Oh for **** sake!" She knew what had happened and hoped that her power would activate again.

She listened to what the woman said whilst standing on the roof and was annoyed that it seemed like that they would be getting a dirt shower as their wake up call.

As the music balsted in his ears, Zeke maintained the same hard look he'd known all his life. So this were the people that he'd start his new life with. Their abilities were very...different. Sure, in Hell Zeke had seen and even attacked with Telekenises, however he wasn't aware that a human could use it. There were all kinds if different of species around him,but the scent of humans was surprisingly strong. Thankfully, he hadn't caught the scent of Demons or Angels, they'd surely start trouble with him. Even now as they arrived some of the students were giving him glares. being the ultimate abomination usually meant that everyone, despite race, hated you.

"Here" Zeke called as his name was called his voice deep and scruffy. He stuck his hands in his brown, old leather jacket that he had since as far as he could remember. It was torn and worn after seeing many years of combat. All his clothing looked similiar though. His black leather boots and jeans were just as broken down. However, Zeke's plaid shirt and white undershirt were new looking. All new items or clothing he wore were "borrowed". That's just what he had to do to survive.

Horus looked up at the women and when she touched him he felt calmed. The men let him down and he walked back over to the group. He was going to walk back over to Seraphina but he didnt want to spook her out any further so he went to the back of the group. While walkin he spotted a man who seeemed real suspicious but he learned not to judge. Well the first day already pretty terrible, this foreshadows the nest 3 years of my life stuck in this institute. He slopped down to the ground and picked up a rusted nail he found early and spun it in the air. Why does carter get all the cool powers, im stuck with metal and people miserable minds to control. Maybe one day ill be able to control him and hsi powers. He looked at the Gwen and Seraphina and sighed. "I guess i have to make the best of this." He sighed and bent the nail and placed it in his pocket.

He walked over to Seraphina. "Hey sorry bout that. I must tell you i black out sometimes and someone else comes out called Carter he is very very direspectful." He looked at the roses. "Did he give you those." The girl looked confused. Horus knew he lost the little trust he had from her after that stunt Carter pulled.

So, the boy had a multi personality disorder? Or was he possessed by a demon of some sort? Please not demons, Seraphina begged silently, please no more demons.

"Yes." Seraphina said, "Nice, aren't they? I'll have to find a vase or something to put them in." She was a little nervous of Carter now but she'd met worse prior to now and would probably meet worse in the future. After all, this was an institute for crazy people- she was bound to meet worse people. She bit down on her ribbon, chewing it thoughtfully.

"Your abilities intrigue me." she said, "How do they work?"

Whooh she hasnt ran away yet thats a relief. "To be honest i havent really that part out yet. At th moment i can only control metal and minds. But on the other hand Carter has complete control over it which is very dissapointing." He looked at the girl she reminded him of his younger cousin. She would come over sometimes with her mother and make snacks and stuff for me. She was such a cute little girl. The family never told her about my problems. She loved me and i loved her she was the closest thing i had to a friend until...

One day they were playing outside and raced up and down the street. The neighbors dog managed to jump over the fence Horus grabbed a mail box and pelted it at the dog while she wasnt lookin. But the dog dodge it and jumped and landed on top of her. "SARA." He shouted and then blanked out. "Oh hey sara we finally get to meet youve been growing alot havent you."

Horus woke up and he saw his cousin crawling backwards starin blankly into my eyes. "Sara are you ok" Horus atempted to comfort her but she shouted and him and threw rocks and him and ran home. After that day he never seen her.

Horus looked at Seraphina. "Sorry bout that you remind me of someone." He went behind her and pushed her towards the group moving towards the building "Lets gets going Sera. Its ok if i call you Sera right."

@Fallen from Heaven

"Yeah." Seraphina shrugged, "My daddy calls me Seffy, sometimes. He says Seraphina is too extravagant for a little girl." She smiled, softly, "But Mommy says that daddy wanted to call me Lucifer, so he can't talk." She laughed. She loved her Mommy and Daddy very much, even though they were dead now. When she closed her eyes, she could still see their dead and broken bodies. She smiled, happily. Her parents were the best.

"I don't need your help, you know." Seraphina said, "I can move by myself. You can go talk to the others, if you want."

Horus stopped and took in what she just said. "Oh yeah my bad." He didnt really want to talk to anyone else at the moment but he didnt want to seem like a creep so he nodded. "Ok ill see you around then, Seffy." He walked over to the albino girl and the dude called Raine. He looked creppy but looked like someone Horus could hang with. "Hey guys my names Horus, Whats your names." He looked at the two they both looked pretty weird but what do you expect when your going to live a institute for the powerfully insane.
