Ziyad Dubois, “Drums-Fall-Silent”, Rahu Iron Master

Lenasaurus

Turtle, but Literate
Ziyad Dubois, called “Drums-Fall-Silent”

Concept: Sleepy Titan

Ziyad is supposed to be the anchor. He’ll appear to have infinite reserves of patience, relatively speaking. Also infinite reserves of sorry-I'm-all-out-of-fucks-to-give, as he's still dealing with the whole ripped-away-from-everything-I-loved in the most mature of ways, sulking. In truth he'll be undisturbed and consistent in even the most dire of circumstances… once you rouse him, we’re already talking about a 9-dice-pool face-punching monster. Until then he’s all about pulling his own weight, deflecting further responsibility onto someone else, and watching the television. Ziyad appears to be a ‘stereotypical’ Iron Master in only the most cosmetic of senses, appearing attached to modern trappings and comforts. In truth his cunning is a soft one, a belief that he can react quickly enough to others’ plans that they will fail to adapt – his lack of activity is matched by a sharp perception as he quietly watches for the perfect moment to force the issue his way.

He’ll be a good moral pole for the Alpha to get on the case of --- but he’ll really shine once he’s trusted to do his own thing because he’s as dependable as bedrock under the appearance of being a lazy POS. The drums fall silent when he actually decides to apply his prodigious strength – he has a lever large enough to move the mountains – heavens help you once he decides to use it.

History:

Ziyad was a paramedic back in Paris. Life was great. He had things like his own apartment, sufficiently-fast internet that he paid through the nose for, and Les Bleus were doing decently on the football field. He’s a third-generation Parisian Arab, which basically makes him a Parisian with a tan. He liked wine, he liked porn, he liked sleeping in… and then he got a call for a gangbanger that was cut up real bad. Like, real bad. Cut-up didn’t do it justice. The guy had been mulched. There were slashes in the masonry, like the proverbial knife through butter. The buddy of the pile of compost, who’d put out the call, was curled up in the fetal position trying to reattach his own hand, talking about dogs the size of a taxi cab. Something about one of them being right behind Ziyad, actually. He doesn't remember much afterwards - something kind of awful happened to Ziyad that day. He blamed the sushi he’d had for lunch.

Fast forward through a month of awful nightmares and fever-sweats and really violent thoughts every time he loaded some grandma up onto his gurney about what her atrophied liver would taste like. That’s about when those race riots started, because yea, terrorism happens in France in the World of Darkness and of course race riots started. His family begged him to get out of the country for a while. This one was going to be real bad. Maybe go see his cousin in Ireland for a few weeks?

He took his cousin up on her offer. Since he wasn’t feeling too well, Ziyad didn’t want to fly. Instead he took a boat, a bus, and another boat. That Irish ferry that drifted into harbor on fire with dozens dead on board? Yep. That was him. The Uratha were waiting as he limped onto shore. Ireland has him, now.

All he wants is to go back home. He’s stuck in Ireland, his smartphone doesn’t get a signal anymore, he can’t find good wine, the football fans are assholes, and he’s probably lost his job. Sure laying around getting catnaps and appearing to be a lazy piece of garbage doesn’t really scream Urathra, but everyone does what they have to in order to keep themselves balanced – for Ziyad, that’s keeping up the appearances of his old life.

For a bit of background, his mentor in Ireland is Hides-Her-Heart, an Elodoth Iron Master known for stony countenance, patience, and thorough (some would call her slow or indecisive) decision making.

Aspirations:

Short-Term: Don’t Make Waves (Ziyad likes his space. He wants to find that happy medium where he has said space while still doing enough to make the pack he’s been stapled on to happy so they won’t ride him for being ‘disinterested’)

Medium-Term: Get enough respect to stop being a ‘pup’ and have some credit with local Elders, at least enough to get them to hear him out about letting him move on (something I’d love him to have a reason to not want once he stops being such a dummy and embraces his new life).

Long-Term: Get Back to Paris (also a good thing to have change)

Blood/Bone: Monster/Lone Wolf

Gifts & Rites:

Moon Gift (Rahu)

Killer Instinct

Cost: 1 Essence (Reflexive) Duration: 1 Scene

The Rahu benefits from the 8-again rule on Brawl and Weaponry dice pools for the duration of the scene.

Honed Senses (Cunning)

Any detail, no matter how small or subtle, could be the difference between the success of the hunt or its failure.

Cost: None

Duration: Permanent

The Uratha achieves an exceptional success on Perception rolls with 3 successes instead of 5.

Snarl of the Predator (Purity)

When the wolf snarls, the herd hurries to obey.

Cost: 1 Essence Action: Instant

The Uratha may use this Facet when attempting to force Doors during a Social maneuver, his snarled demand backed by his dominating presence. Reduce the penalty for the current number of remaining Doors by the Uratha’s Purity Renown.

Primal Strength (Purity)

With this Facet, the Uratha’s spiritual strength is poured into her blood and bone.

Cost: 1 Essence Action: Reflexive Duration: 1 scene

The Uratha adds her Purity Renown to her Strength for the duration of this Facet. If the Uratha falls into Basu-Im, she will instinctively activate this Facet at no cost.

Sacred Hunt (••)

The Sacred Hunt, the Siskur-Dah, is the most holy of all rites. Many werewolves believe that it draws upon the laws of the hunt that the Wolf-Mother herself personified.

Symbols: The hunt, prey, claws or weapons, blood

Action: Extended (10 successes; each roll represents 1 minute)

Mechanically, Ziyad rolls Brawl + Composure: Narrative-wise, he begins to rather meditatively shadow-box towards the center of whatever circle he and the pack are focused around. This series of punches begins to speed up, intensifying, and eventually refocusing – if not on an effigy of the prey, or whatever the pack is centered around (a camp fire, a coffee table) then he’ll find something more worthy. Like a wall. Or a tree. (It is best to perform this rite outside and far away from valuable objects.) After ten minutes of ghostly-silent fury, Drums-Fall-Silent will howl his assured victory over the broken recipient of his silent rage, confidentially spread to the rest of his pack.

Success: The rite binds hunters and prey into the Siskur-Dah. All werewolves present are cast as the hunters. The ritemaster must indicate the intended prey during the rite, which can be an individual or a group, but they do not need to be identified with precise details or names.

The rite has three effects:

All participating werewolves gain the Siskur-Dah Condition.

If the Uratha bring down a spirit that is the prey of this rite, they may divide its remaining Essence amongst themselves as they see fit; this can be used to destroy a spirit by draining all its Essence and discorporating it, but doing so is usually a breaking point toward Spirit and is seen as disrespectful if done without good reason.

If the Uratha chase down spirit-prey that knows the symbols of a rite or can carve the secret of a Gift, any Uratha hunter present can expend the necessary Experiences to be marked with the Gift or learn the rite from the spirit. If this is done, the hunters do not get any Essence if they then bring the spirit down, and doing so is a breaking point toward Spirit.

Merits

Totem •

Language (English, First Tongue, French) ••

Controlled Burn (••)

Prerequisites: Resolve •••, Composure •••

Effect: Your character suffers from a dampened form of Wasu-Im, the first stage of Death Rage. When she goes into Wasu-Im, she shifts to Hishu or Urhan form, not Dalu or Urshul. If she succeeds in getting a turn of lucidity (see p. 102), she can spend a point of Willpower to shrug the Rage off entirely.

Drawback: Your character can only change to those two forms in Wasu-Im, which could cause complications that could push her toward Basu-Im.

Efficient Killer (••)

Prerequisites: Purity ••, Brawl •••, Medicine ••, Strength •••, may only be used in Gauru form.

Effect: Your character is a master of immediate, merciful killing. She knows exactly where to clamp down to end a life in one swift blow. When in Gauru form, any time an opponent is completely denied her Defense — for example, if she’s sacrificed it for an all-out attack, during a successful ambush, or when activating certain Merits — you can use Efficient Killer. Sacrifice your Defense for the turn, and you can deal a Killing Blow.

Drawback: This Merit only works on living targets with discernible weak points. Additionally, this immediately sends the character into Wasu-Im.

Anonymity (•)

Indomitable (••)

•• banked to add to totems, safe place, etc.

If the Storyteller would like me to retain Zayid's bank account, property, etc. back in Paris, we can, but otherwise I figure he's assumed dead by his family after the 'accident' on the ferry, so he's lost everything that isn't on his person to the courts. That'd mean at most he has an iPod and maybe he had one of those can-survive-a-boat-crash industrial laptops? If you want me to use one of my dots for Resources for that, just give the word. Ditto if you want one in Contacts for his cousin.
