Today marks the independence of a nation of past, the ones that we haven't forgotten, the United States. The beginning of the end began two years, and thirty days in the past, as the world prospered, everything seemed simple. The human race progressed as a whole, in such a short amount of time, that it was only seemingly impossible to try to defeat the purpose of mortality. A conglomerate specializing in Pharmaceuticals and in the Private Military sector, known as Human Evolution Logistics or HEL CORP, begun delving into the unknown of gene splicing and bio-engineering. It was only a matter of time that humans, would take the next stage of evolution, and progress past their frail bodies limits. Public knowledge on the project was on a need to know basis, only disguised as a potential cure to Cancer. The project became known as Project Ascension. How the project worked, due to little knowledge, was the reanimation of dead tissue, and due to little knowledge was that the reanimation of dead tissue caused something else to form, as the cells began to multiply and take their own shape, they were able to spread and consume the whole body. This was discovered that caused the Human Heart to shut down and the Nervous system between the Corneal Reflex, the Brain Stem, and the Spinal Cord, and soon after began to turn on one another for basic survival needs of hunger, endless hunger.
The truth was well hidden, at least to HEL CORP's effort, inciting fear in scientists by assassinations, gag orders, bribes, and threats, there was nothing that could prepare the human race. Until this one moment when a signal began to broadcast from a source of an unknown location. A video feed of Ascension's true nature, and then chaos, as the facility failed containment, showed only horror as it began to broadcast through public news networks. The signal due to an unknown reason, only seemed like sabotage from the inside, and as due course, HEL CORP tried their best mercenaries to control the outbreak, however it seemed fruitless, and they couldn't risk allowing the US Military to blow up their one investment. The US Military only quarantined off the area, shooting civilians that were inside the infected area during the limited engagement, however the virus at that point was already airborne, and began to spread like wildfire. As it hit major cities, fear erupted from the public, as the end was coming. The military failed to contain the virus, and now it began to spread across whole cities. The US Military responded by carpet bombing whole cities, but by that point, the virus was world wide, and whole cities resorted to fruitless efforts of such. In the end, only remains of cities remain visible.
Our search for immortality was over, but at the cost of our humanity. Yet in all the turmoil, there was one person to blame HEL CORP, however due to their position, held considerable bribes in politics for the US Government, and ultimately silenced anyone who came out against them as the threat, and the only lead leading them to the virus or a cure, is the bunker with the active signal still broadcasting it. As the dust began to settle and the unknown became known, survivors began to rise out of the ashes, and form an enclave, known as the Raiders, they developed a known bastion, as they gathered weapons and remnants of armored vehicles from the shattered US Military. HEL CORP resurfaced and attacked the bastion countless times, fruitless as the Raiders were able to turn back their heaviest Mercenary attacks with will and sheer determination. The Raiders were those unwilling to side with HEL CORP and find the true nature of the virus and defeat them. Yet no-one knows why HEL CORP returned to the nearby location of the bastion, only one can assume their up to something sinister. The Raiders are the only hope of humanities survival, and as they prepare for the worst, their best are preparing for the mission that would hold more questions than answers.
