Wrackvajra

Winged Cat

Who are you?
Wrackstaff + Vajra = more options

Artifact 3

A utility weapon for Exalts who wish ranged and close combat without committing a lot of motes. Its design comes from marrying a wrackstaff to a vajra. The new artifact has a total commitment of 5 motes. Like a vajra, it automatically returns to the owner's hand after being thrown - or, if the owner is ever disarmed, the owner can summon it back to hand with a miscellaneous action. As a further convenience, it can collapse to a baton about the length of a forearm, concealing the pointed end to avoid accidentally stabbing the wielder; collapsing or extending it is a miscellaneous action. It bears a socket for one hearthstone.

By adjusting the grip to swing it like a club, it can also be used to send foes flying away. This uses the stats for a wrackstaff's blunt end attack. The "damage" is unsoakable, however, all but 1 level of rolled damage is converted into yards of knockback on a 1-for-1 basis.

Stats (adjusted for Exalted 2.5) :

Lethal end: Speed 5, Accuracy +2, Damage +5L/2, Defense +2, Rate 2, Tags: 2, O, R, T, Th, M

Bashing end: Speed 5, Accuracy +2, Damage +8B/2, Defense +2, Rate 2, Tags: 2, O, R, M

Thrown: Speed 5, Accuracy +2, Damage +5L/2, Rate 2, Range 50, Tags: O

Baton: Speed 4, Accuracy +2, Damage +6B/2, Defense +2, Rate 3, Tags: M

These stats do not include magic material bonuses. Like most artifact weapons, a Wrackvajra is made primarily from a single magical material. (Typical Wrackvajra recipes wrap this around a core of frozen lightning, melting it into the casing, and differ on the third exotic ingredient.) A jade Wrackvajra may even qualify for color-specific jade bonuses, depending on its construction.

If socketed with a Seeking Stone, one can throw but not let go, then use the Seeking Stone to continue the flight. Result: flight for 3*Range yards per 3 ticks, carrying up to what one could lift with Strength+Athletics, limited by mote pool (spending 1 mote per 3 ticks). In some campaigns, a character might develop a custom charm, committing motes in order to negate this cost for a scene.
