Info Why The 10 Post Count?

Hello! I was just wondering why we need ten posts in order to have new pm's? It just seems like more of a hassle than it's worth, with people posting for the sole purpose of meeting the post count (myself included). I think I have a vague understanding of it, but some clarification would be great

It's another measure to prevent spam. Don't want spam bots sending users dangerous messages, now, do we?
