backstory
Miranda was born to Lydia and Joseph Harlow. Her father was a real estate agent while her mother was a nurse. Though they weren’t overly wealthy they did manage to be comfortable enough and her life was a happy. At least, from what she does remember of it. That all changed when she was around thirteen years old though. Her parents had gone off to a wedding and left Mira with the babysitter. She remembers the night vividly. Being woken up by a loud banging on the door just before midnight. The police told her that her parents had been hit by a drunk driver and were pronounced dead on the scene. Her entire life came crashing down and due to having no immediate family, she was thrown into the foster system. She bounced around from group home to group home, never finding any sense of stability. Mira learned early on that she had to be tough and learn how to survive. When Miranda was seventeen she was placed in a home with a couple and it was a miracle since most teens aren't taken in. They went to church, had nice jobs, and sent her to a great school nearby. They seemed like they enjoyed her being there too and she hoped they might adopt her. She thought that she had actually found a family but of course, nothing is ever what it seems.

Miranda started to notice that the couple was inviting "close friends" over more often than before but they were always older men. They would ask her to come to say hello and get to know the men who made her feel slightly uncomfortable as they asked her questioned and stared her up and down. It wasn't until one guy came over when Miranda was in bed that she realized what was really going on. She heard her foster father and the man talking about money as if he was trying to buy something but her foster father made it clear he had other offers. It never dawned on her what they were talking about until it was too late.

It was that same week when the guy came back and before Mira knew it she was being sold off by her foster parents. She pleaded with them not to do it, that someone would look for her but she knew it wasn't true. So did they. They told her they would claim she ran away and since she had a history of doing so before from group homes it was believable. The guy who had bought her worked for the asylum. He was an investor who bought girls for them so they wouldn't be caught doing it themselves. In return he got whatever he wanted, she wasn't sure what. All she did know was according to other members at the asylum, there was no way out.

quirks & fears

* runs hands through hair often (quirk)
* not saving his brother (fear)
* airplanes (fear)

backstory
Andrew and his younger brother, Jacob had been on their own for years. Born to a drug-addicted mother and an absent father they never really had a chance. Growing up the brothers were used to their mother hardly ever coming home and when she did there was always a new man in tow. Usually, ones that could help support her drug habits or pay her for her services. Drew always took on the role of caretaker when it came to his brother. He started working when he was young, lying about his age to get jobs at fast food places and such. He did everything he had to in order to make sure he and his brother got by but it wasn't enough.

By age the time he was a legal adult he had started selling drugs for a local gang and from there he sorta got sucked in. He officially joined at nineteen and a couple years later his brother followed in his footstep much to his protest. This was the beginning of the downfall. While Drew knew his limits, Jake was too much of a people pleaser and was eager to get praise. He would do all the things that other guys wouldn't be the crash dummy even though Drew tried to keep him in line. Eventually, it cause him to get into some trouble that he couldn't get out of. Instead of prison, Jake decided to go to a reform school type place. Drew assumed it was for the best.

A way to get him out of the gang and out of the trouble, keep him from getting himself killed. He only realized this wasn't the case when six months went by and he still wasn't allowed to talk to or visit his brother. Drew decided to dig into things which and of course, the reviews and everything seemed perfect with many renowned investors but he wasn't convinced. He finally managed to find a woman who has somehow escaped and her stories were terrifying. Andrew tried over the next year to get a job with the place as a way to find his brother but had no luck. He finally took extreme measures and committed arson getting himself sent to the asylum.

❝ November Cullen. ❞

—BACKSTORY.
There comes a time in most married couples' lives when they decide they want to settle down and start a family. Bringing new life into the world is a goal for many people, and it brings them nothing but happiness. But the Cullens are far from 'most married couples.' Doctors Christopher and Anna Cullen met in college, both working under a rather mad professor in an experimental behavior psychology laboratory. Christopher was a graduate student while Anna, who was a few years younger, was merely an undergraduate fairly new to the university. As mentor and mentee, their relationship was not sanctioned by the college, and therefore kept hidden. Eventually, however, Anna graduated and continued on with her education. Now considered equals, they were freely able to display their love and relationships. Those years of keeping one another secret, however, had prepared them for their futures as scientists.

Christopher was interested in behavioral manipulation, using chemicals and drugs to change the way in which subjects react to situations. Particularly, he wanted to know how far a person had to be enhanced in order to murder simply because they were asked to. Sure, soldiers in war did it all the time. But what about the average person, maybe a child, or someone randomly picked off the streets? At what point would they commit one of the world's most heinous crimes simply because they were told to? Anna, however, was interested in the opposite side of the coin. Could a person who doesn't feel anything, a sociopath, be manipulated into actually feeling emotion?

The problem, however, came in the execution of their experimental interests. What they wanted to do was considered unethical to test on humans, and therefore they were shut down, forced into what they considered far less interesting lines of science. But the constant underlying interest nagged at both of them. Years later, after both Christopher and Anna had graduated with their doctorates and had gotten married, they were offered jobs at an institute of sorts, a research facility hid beneath the guise of an asylum. They could finally follow their interests without the overhang of worry or ethics.

For years, the couple ran their experiments with lackluster results, so much so that the asylum was nearing firing them. They had one shot left, but couldn't convince the board to allow them more subjects. So they used the only victim they could, their newborn daughter. November Cullen was born into life in the asylum, her parents rarely ever letting her outside of its grounds. Instead of running, playing, and making friends, her childhood was spent undergoing a series of painful tests and procedures until she became the so-called "perfect killer." Her father's interest in creating sociopathy combined with her mother's interest in emotion created a turmoil in her mind. Nevertheless, she followed their orders and did as she was told, regardless of the emotional pain it put her through.

Nova became an assassin, and a rather good one at that. Having been trained in various military tactics, November had a rather large success rate, so much so that her father began to hire her out to those in need of a contract killer. Though she was unable to disobey, each killing affected her in deep ways, which she quickly learned to hide from those around her. It was easier to deal with the pain of one parent's experiments instead both. Thinking she had failed, Anna moved on to other research, unknowing of the emotional war November went through everyday. Nova dreams of one day leaving the asylum and never having to kill again. But sometimes, dreams are just dreams.

❝ Theodore Northcott. ❞

—BACKSTORY.
Theodore's childhood was rather unconventional when compared to his friends. While others had the white picket fence lifestyle with a mother, a father, and a sibling, Theodore barely had a father of his own. He grew up in a single parent household with a father that was only around because he couldn't spend all day at the office. His mother had left them when he was still a toddler, citing reasons such as boredom, needing to travel, and not being ready for a kid. Theo's father, Jefferson, however, wasn't exactly happy with the woman anyway, and happily let her leave without so much as an attempt to stop her. Jefferson was a fairly prominent businessman, successful in his own right with enough money to live comfortable for the rest of his life. But for him, comfortable didn't include a son by way of a one night stand. So, Theodore played second fiddle to his father's personal goals.

When Theodore graduated high school, he wanted nothing more than to live an exciting life of his own away from apathetic father. So, he packed up his entire life and moved across the country. He had no idea what he would be doing or why, but he needed to get away. To make ends meet, Theodore took up a job as an assistant to a fairly prominent businessman. His father, though absent most of the time, did bring his work home every now and again. As a child, Theo often sat outside his office and listened in, just so he could be closer to his father. Based on that memory and knowledge, he figured he could at least bullshit his way through the job. One decisive night however, a super important deal for the businessman was about to fall through, and he had no idea what to do. Theodore, having overheard the issue, was able to come up with a solution that made the company millions. That was the beginning of the rest of his life.

A few years later, Theo graduated from college with dual business/finance degree and had worked his way up in the businessman's company to one of the top consultant positions. Everything was going amazing for him, he had power, money, and a beautiful girlfriend in Detective Alicia Camp. They were dynamic, with chemistry that put fairy tales to shame. Together for about two years, one morning, Alicia went out on a bank robbery. Things got heated, and soon shots were exchanged. In the adrenaline of it all, Alicia had missed her shot, and as a result, innocents were killed.

Heartbroken and filled with guilt over their deaths, Alicia took a few months off to gather her thoughts and try to work through the mourning. But it was never enough. Theodore came home from work one day to find her unconscious in the bathroom, an empty pill bottle at her side. Unfortunately, Alicia did not make it. Never having been very good with emotion, he let anger take over. Theo began looking for any way he could to feel better about Alicia's death. But his rage and temper took over, so much so that he become know as a volcano. It didn't take much to set him off. His family was cast to the wayside and the only people he had left were his business partners. They saw his downfall as another business deal, and used him as leverage. The company promised him his own department once he returned, and they didn't take no for an answer. So, he was sent to the asylum mostly against his will as part of the terms of a contract, wanting nothing more than to be out.
