I haven't come up with a name for the RP this lore is attached to, and I've got a lot of idea fleshing out to do before I get to that point. But if you read this and like what you see please feel free to shoot me a DM and let me know you're interested. I'll be sure to tag you directly whenever I get around to making an official Interest Check thread for it later.

Cheers!

The Plot/Story

In a world of humanoids and Dragons, an uneasy peace currently reigns.

The continent of Vi'nagir ("Vee" - "Nah" - "Jeer," located in the top-center of the map) is the centerpiece of humanoid prosperity and activity. The 6 nations inhabiting it are home to Humans, Elves, Faeries, Nymphs, Mii'thi, and Orcs. The Dragons (primarily) inhabit the continent of Lhuusia ("Loo" - "She" - "Ah," the reddish continent in the upper-right corner of the map).

The peace which exists between them currently walks a razor's edge held together by spit and a wish thanks to what little diplomacy and contact the respective sides have with one another. The Dragons seek to live in quiet isolation while the humanoids seek to expand their habitation of the world further to the Southeast as they look to colonize all of the continent of Taluras ("Tah" - "Loo" - "Rhas," the large continent in the lower-right corner of the map). Currently, only half the continent is colonized and inhabited. The further East they press their expansion efforts, the more cornered the Dragons feel. As a result diplomacy has taken a bit of a more urgent turn as the Dragons call for an immediate cease of all expansion efforts in order to preserve what little balance they claim remains in the world. The humanoids, obviously, are dismissive of this request and many of the diplomatic discussions have broken down resulting in a stalemate.

Recently, however, diplomacy has taken a darker turn as the Dragons delivered an ultimatum: Cease all Eastward expansion or face the wrath of the Dragon Race.

An open declaration of impending war if ever there was one. A single move Eastward would start a conflict the likes of which neither side has seen before in its history. Yes, there have been skirmishes and squabbles in the past. But never an all-out war between the two sides.

The feelings on this have been mixed with one majority voicing their desire to continue expansion because the Dragons have no right to tell them to stop, and another majority saying they should respect the Dragon's wishes as they could have started war at any time but chose to give one final warning before doing so. As with any conflict, there are several schools of thought which lie in the gray area between the two extremes. However, they're largely drowned out by the vocal majorities.

On the side of the Dragons, thoughts are unified: Humanoids have become arrogant and are causing an imbalance in the world through their greed and selfishness. And they need to be halted before a new calamity can take place.

But what calamity do the Dragons speak of amongst themselves?

That would be telling, wouldn't it?

Who Are The Humanoids and Dragons?

The humanoids, as mentioned before, are as follows:
  1. Humans
  2. Elves
  3. Faeries
  4. Nymphs
  5. Mii'thi
  6. Orcs
Contrary to common fantasy interpretation each race (aside from humans) have been overhauled to suit this story's vision.

ELVES

Elves are not the pale-skinned, slender, long-haired demi-gods that modern fiction seems a little too fond of portraying them as. They're exactly the same as humans in every respect, save for their pointed ears since I'm not getting rid of that feature. But their hair is just as varied in light and dark shades. They can be fat, short and stout, bulky and muscular, etc. They're also not born god-tier archers who can hit a fly off a deer's ear at 500 yards on the first try. Can they be great archers? Yes. Are they Legolas with how accurate they are? No. The best elven archers are no better than the best human archers.

Elves come in three variants:

- High Elves
- (Standard) Elves
- Dark Elves

High Elves are the longest lived and have the highest magical potential, but are the most physically frail due to their genetics. It's not that they're "weak," per se. They're just not as physically gifted as their cousins when compared directly to them. A standard Elf or Dark Elf will be, in roughly 99% of cases, physically stronger, faster, and more dexterous than a High Elf.

Dark Elves are the shortest lived and have the weakest magical potential, but are the most physically gifted among their cousins. In about 90% of cases, they will be stronger, faster, and more dexterous than either of their cousins. Occasionally a Standard Elf can match or exceed them. But it's not commonplace.

Standard Elves split the difference and are considered the most flexible and easily adaptable among their cousins. Because their physical and magical abilities can be anywhere between the two extremes, or in rare cases nearly matching one or both, they can adapt to changes in battle faster than either of their cousins can.

Elves live an average of 1,000 years, and they enjoy a youthful appearance and vigor well into their 800's before their age finally begins catching up to them. By 850 most Elves will look to be in their mid-late 40's. At 900 they look like they're in their 60's. And at around 950+ they look as elderly as they are.

Faeries

Faeries not teeny tiny little mini-humanoids. They're full human sized creatures who look remarkably human but have a more greenish-yellow tint to their skin tones and, generally speaking, have hair which comes in various shades of green. They have insectoid wings similar to those of a butterfly which can be but aren't always transparent. They're highly secretive and live deep in the forests of Vi'Nagir.

Faeries live an average of 300 years and, similar to Elves, enjoy a youthful appearance and vigor until they're around 250 years old before their bodies finally begin aging.

Because of how their culture is focused on their connection to nature they see their wings as their link to the natural world. Any insults to them is an insult to their very life and purpose in the world, and they will react harshly to it. Though they are generally peaceful by nature they can be easily provoked by disrespecting nature in any form be it a blade of grass, an animal, a tree, etc. Such disrespect is viewed as an insult to the world which gave life to whomever did the insulting. And as the self-appointed envoys of nature they will seek justice to any such occurrences.

Their magic is unique to their race and is incredibly potent whenever they are within an area with heavy greenery (meaning the forest). Their magic enables them to breathe literal life into the forest and the results can be both beautiful and terrifying. Imagine being in the middle of a dense forest with trees as tall as skyscrapers and suddenly the trees come to life and use their roots like feet to try and stomp you into oblivion, their branches like arms to swat you to the sun, and their foliage to smother you into nothingness.

Nymphs

The Nymphs are humanoids with semi-pointed ears, similar to elves, and have natural bark-like horns on their heads as well as natural tattoos in their flesh which is there by birth, and each is as unique as a fingerprint. The Nymphs can use Seid Magic ("Voice" Magic, basically singing) for either offense or utility, can communicate with nature in all its forms from grass blades to the largest predatory animals, and can blend with nature (quite literally) becoming one with it for as long as their stamina holds out to evade their enemies.

Nymphs are unique in their life spans. Females live an average of 500 years while males live an average of 200 years. Why this discrepancy? None remain alive who remember. Myths and rumors are that males are genetically inferior as none have ever lived even half so long as a female. However, this remains not but myth.

Due to the female life span being over twice as long as males their culture is a Queendom with a single Queen and any daughters she bears with her husband (who is not known as "King," but simply her husband) being the greatest authority in the lands they occupy.

The horns on their heads are more than just unique in form. They serve a purpose. Their horns are the source of their ability to communicate with one another telepathically no matter where in the world they are. If their horns are damaged, even if it's just a small chip out of one of them, this ability is disrupted. They will still be able to hear the thoughts of others trying to reach them. But they won't be able to send their thoughts back.

Their Seid Magic is incredibly dangerous for two primary reasons: They don't have to see you to target you, and it only takes as long as it takes for them to sing the lyrics. Given that each Seid Song averages only three lines of lyrics containing about five to seven words, the faster they sing the faster they can cast the spell. This Seid Magic can interfere directly with the mind of their target causing anything from hallucinations to straight up brain death (and thus, death death). The closer they are to their target the more damage is dealt. A single small squad of Seid Magic users is a force to be reckoned with. They could form two lines of five singers each and simply march forward to befuddle an entire or even kill entire battalions of enemies.

Another use for their Seid Magic is restoration of nature. These lyrics are much longer than their attacking magic and are considerably more complex. A single mispronunciation ruins the entire thing. But if a Nymph is able to complete their song they could bring an entire dead forest for miles in all directions back to life.

Mii'thi

Mii'thi are a race I came up with and are your standard humanoids who can transform into animals. While in human form they usually have at least one visible trait of their animal form, such as slit pupils for feline species or long fluffy ears for rabbit species. They exist in a myriad of mammalian, reptilian, and avian forms. When a member of a naturally small species transforms they retain a fully human size. Imagine a hummingbird that's 6' tall when sitting in an upright position. Others who are of a larger species can sometimes transform into their animal form and be up to 1.5x larger than their natural counterparts.

They are physically much stronger, even in human form, than other humanoids. For example, a 5' 2" female cat Mii'thi, despite her lithe and slender frame, could easily bench press two fully grown human men who are both 6' 4" and weigh 240 pounds a piece. A larger male tiger Mii'thi who stands 6' 8" could bench press an elephant.

The price for this strength, however, is that they are non-magical and, as a consequence, are very vulnerable to magic. In particular, mammalian Mii'thi are vulnerable to Fire elemental magic, avian Mii'thi are vulnerable to wind magic, and reptilian Mii'thi are vulnerable to electric magic.

Mii'thi live an average of 150 years, and they mature very early in life. Regardless of gender or species the Mii'thi reach maturity by the age of 10 and are considered full-grown adults within their culture. Like other races they remain youthful until the age of about 100 before they finally start aging down.

When the Mii'thi transform they gain the strengths of their animalistic form. Felines, for example, are fast, agile, and use their claws for close-range slicing attacks as well as their powerful jaws which are strong enough to crush steel like it's nothing but plastic wrap. Avian Mii'thi, when in bird form, are strong enough to pick up humans and carry them vast distances without the need to rest. And reptilian Mii'thi are heavy, powerful, and excellent ambush predators in most cases who can blend with their surroundings. Crocodilians, for example, can swim incredibly fast and hold their breath for hours before needing to come up for air.

Orcs

Finally, Orcs. Everyone knows Orcs as big, brutish, often stupid creatures in most forms of media. In this story they are highly intelligent and well-educated, richly cultured, and although they do have a very strong military they prefer to resolve conflicts through diplomacy. They typically stand anywhere from 6.5' to 9' in height with females usually occupying the lower height range and males occupying the upper height range. They're even well-versed in magic and the medicinal arts.

Orcs live an average of 250 years and are often the tallest of any humanoid of equivalent gender or age. The average female Orc stands 7' in height and can weigh around 300 pounds. Despite this height and weigh, she has the same physical appearance as a healthy, lean human female. There are almost zero overweight Orcs in existence because of how quickly their bodies naturally metabolize the food they eat, and how much strength plays a role in their culture even in more intellectual pursuits. Though not as powerful as the Mii'thi in terms of how much weight they can push or how fast they can move, they are much stronger than any other humanoid race without a transformation.

Humans

Humans are humans, plain and simple.

They live an average of 80-90 years and are fairly balanced and flexible in both physical and magical potential.

However, one thing is well-established in this world: Humans are the weakest species.

Their most powerful mages are only as powerful as the average mage from just about any other magical race. Their strongest warriors are only about as strong as the average warrior of other races, and they could never dream of holding a candle to either a Mii'thi or an Orc.

Dragons

The Dragons are as varied as anyone would expect. There are Dragons with and without wings. There are those who can and cannot swim and live aquatic lives. There are those who can and cannot dig and live subterranean lives. There are those who live high in the mountains and even those who live their entire lives on the wing never once touching the ground below them.

Now, the burning questions I'm sure everyone's asking about the Dragons: "Do they have human forms?" "Are half-breeds with Dragons a thing?" "Are Dragons playable?"

Yes. No. Yes, but it comes with a caveat.

Dragons do have human forms. However, they are nothing more than a disguise which they achieve through magic. As such, they lack humanoid reproductive organs in this form which is why there are no half-breeds. And yes, you can play as a Dragon.

Now, for the caveat: If you design a Dragon character you won't be playing them straight away. The reason is because the Dragons live in quiet isolation. And as a point of racial pride the Dragons see their race as the only community/family they need. Therefore, there are no Dragons who would willingly go live in the world of humanoids by themselves.

The main story focuses on the humanoid characters we will be making anyway. The reason why is because they're not privy to the knowledge the Dragons possess about the aforementioned calamity which I brought up. It's within this lack of knowledge and the mystery behind why the Dragons are so oppressively adamant about humanity expanding no further Eastward where the story lies. Once we reach a certain point in the RP the Dragon character you design can and will become playable as they will be forced to cooperate with humanoids for the sake of the world's survival.

Thus, I've got all the lore I have in mind for the RP at this point. Eventually I'll put together a proper Interest Check in the Interest Check section of the site. But for now I'm going to keep refining the lore of this one since I'm having so much fun with it.

Cheers!
