Terms
Harvest Camp: The location where the unwinding process occurs. Each state has one major camp with multiple smaller ones scattered throughout. Kids may be kept at the camp for a brief period until marked, completely unwounded at the location, partially unwounded, or transferred; also known as "meat factories" by the children.
Heartland War: Largest civil war in the U.S. to date. It went on for decades between those of pro-life and pro-choice. The end result was the Second Civil Bomb and the Safeguard Policy.
Marking: Kids enter camps unmarked, meaning they haven't been marked for unwinding. Once marked, it's only a matter of days or weeks before they're cut open.
Resistance, The: Believed to be a myth or story. No one even knows if The Resistance is their real name.
Safeguard Policy: Enacted on January 1, 2044, SGP allowed parents to sign an order for their children between the ages of 13 and 18 to be unwound.
Second Civil Bomb: Nuclear bombs that devastated the west coast. People were forced to move eastwards and California became a wasteland.
Storking: Parents who are unable to raise their children to age 13 for retroactive abortion have the option to "stork" their child by leaving it on another family's porch. If they don't get caught, the "storked" baby then becomes the other family's responsibility.
