Freddie

God, this was why he didn't stay in one place with his sister for more than two hours. It was a rule he'd followed nearly all his life, and here he was, breaking it and paying for it. She was bouncy, excitable, chatting his fucking ear off and he nodded along, pretending to listen. It wasn't that he didn't care about his sister's incessant chatter, it was just he wasn't sure that this was as good an idea as she'd been making it out to be. Their friends had gone missing at the location they were heading toward, no trace or body found up in the year of investigating. Eventually, the police gave up, because who would bother to continue looking when there's no sort of evidence? He sighed heavily, eyes remaining on the road as he sunk further and further into his thoughts.

Freddie hadn't been there on the night it'd all gone down. Well, he'd disappeared during the main event, going into the nearest town to get drinks and Tums for Davin. When he had arrived back, everyone was in a near panicked state. Ros had been close to a meltdown, something that rarely happened, blubbering and bawling about whatever had happened. He alone searched for hours, pelted in the face by snow, until Davin called him, telling him to come back. They called the police moments after he'd burst through the cabin doors. The interrogations were ruthless, but nobody was convicted and he has not a clue what the others had admitted to, or if anything had happened prior to cause the tragic event. Those that had remained involved kept themselves holed up, refusing the acknowledge any questions asked, getting snappy and lashing out in response.

Eventually, he stopped. He stopped thinking about it, stopped worrying about it. Once Ros pulled herself from the hole she'd dug herself, everything was normal. Or, as normal as it could be. A sharp pain on his right arm snapped his attention back to what was going on in the car. He looked at his sister distastefully, who smiled meekly at him, before pointing and telling him that the run-down road that lead to the cabin was only a mile ahead of them. "Thank you, Miss Navigator," He quipped sarcastically, earning another punch to his arm. Despite her smaller size, she was able to pack a punch and Freddie actually frowned in pain, using the hand off the wheel to rub the already bruising spot.

He turned onto the road when it came up, his poor car bouncing and almost writhing as they made their way down the path. Soon enough, they made it to the makeshift drive-way, parking in the thickening snow. He slid out, his eyes dancing around the canopy of snow, before up at the cabin that was looming over them eerily. A shiver ran up his spine, chilling him to the very marrow, before he popped the trunk and rounded to the back, pulling both his and Ros' bag from the compartment. With that, he made his way up to the front steps.

Ros

She was unable to shut up for two reasons. One, she was actually excited to be back at her grandparents' cabin. It was a place filled with memories, most of them good, of when she was smaller. Two, there was a feeling of dread that had begun to bubble in the pit of her stomach. No matter how hard she tried to push it down, it remained, cackling and swirling guilt into her head. She was trying to distract herself on her phone too. She snapped a picture of both her and Freddie, who was completely spaced out and looking fairly grumpy in the photo. She quickly sent it to Davin, the only person she was messaging at the moment. She was sure at least
he'd get a kick out of the photo, even if Freddie got pouty about it later.

"The road is just up there," Ros stated, receiving no response, not even a nod, from her older big brother. "Hey, brute," She said louder, her fist meeting his arm in a decent punch. He turned to look at her in bewilderment and she smiled at him then, repeating what she'd said. She was feeling a bit more giddy now, stomach turning with excitement and anxiety. The cabin came into view and it almost looked menacing. It seemed darker, somehow, as if someone had come by and dumped a ton of pitch black oil all over it. The little maple tree that they'd planted for their deceased grandmother was wilting, much to her dismay, it's branches drooping pathetically. A pout swelled her lower lip, before she got out, keys in hand, shutting the car door behind her. She messaged Davin quickly, letting him know that they were there, before she turned to Freddie.

She was grateful that he had grabbed her bag, since she didn't really feel like trudging the damn thing up the slippery steps. She wasn't the most graceful of beings and Frederik greatly beat her there, somehow possessing the ability to walk on ice
while carrying to very heavy bags. She scowled at him for a moment, taking her steps a bit more carefully, until she had reached the porch. In one swift moment she had the door open wide, letting her brother in first, before she followed behind. She shivered after shutting the door. It wasn't warm in the cabin, since it's heat ran on a wood stove and nobody had been there in over a year. She exhaled, a puff of vapor coming from her mouth, as she watched Freddie set his bags down.

"I'm going to go get the heat going," The burling blonde told her, before disappearing down the basement steps. Ros wasn't keen on being left alone, but she decided to tough it out and move around to turn all the lights on. Finally, with every light downstairs burning bright, she settled herself in a chair in the kitchen. A heavy sigh left her mouth as she slumped back in the chair, phone grasped tightly in her palm. Out of the corner of her eye, she thought she saw something, it was dark, large, but when she turned her head there was nothing. She let out a nervous, shaky laugh before turning back to focus on her phone. She felt cramped, as if the walls were closing around her. She could hear the howl of laughter from a year ago, the sinister prank they'd played on the two girls, and the footprints that eventually disappeared due to a snow storm. She shook her head, determined to clear her thoughts of any and all negativity. Not here. Not now. With one last sigh, she uttered a single word.

"
Fuck."

Davin sighed as he rested into the confines of his seat. It was a bad idea to come up to the cabin, especially with other people in the vehicle. His anxiety was a mile high and it made him antsy as all fuck. He still hadn't been cleared to drive after the breakdown that happened a week and a half prior, which annoyed him to all hell. So, he'd offered Jarrett's services to some of the others. The raven haired man propped one boot clad foot on the dashboard of his step-dad's Volvo. In his lap lay a small leather-bound notebook, filled to the brim with beautiful script.

'Lost in the waves of my own uncertainty, I willingly drown to let something darker take my place.'

"Dav!"

The sound of his brother's voice startled him once more, earning a sharp glare from the younger Maxwell, though calling Jarrett his brother would only be a technicality. They were cousins by blood, related by marriage, and as close as a set of bookends. The only reason Jarrett even agreed to drive was because Sara asked. He had no ties here--save for the slight infatuation he had with one of the missing girls.

"Your phone has been going off this entire time...idiot."

Davin sighed and bent over to look in his knapsack for the phone his parents had given him only a year ago, despite his wishes not to have one. They felt like the situation of constant interrogation and violation of privacy would get to him and they wanted him to be within reach. The two had been correct in their assumptions. Not only did the detectives not believe his story for not being present when Shauna and Marie went missing, they thought his "mental capacity" made him more likely to have a connection to the case then anyone else who was there. He'd just gotten to the point where social interactions were acceptable again--that's how far the law enforcement went in it's investigation.

Davin perked up when he saw the photo of both Ros and Freddie, his family from another. Well, Ros was like family. He hadn't had the time to think about what Freddie was to him yet. But that didn't stop him from placing the photo as his new phone background picture.

Scrolling further he noted that the two were already at the cabin. They weren't too far away themselves, making Dav's insides squirm.

"Okay," he said, turning to the back in his seat. "Is everyone ready?" he asked, forcing a halfhearted grin on his face as he addressed the friends who'd accepted his offer. At least one of them was brand new and he hadn't told her of the tragedy that happened last year, though one who read the paper wouldn't be out of the loop. The others already knew what they were here for:

To lay things to rest, he hoped.

Enzo - The Car - 17:26

Enzo was laying his head back against the seat, snoring loudly. Not loud enough to drive anyone crazy, but loud enough for someone next to him to give him the side eye. It was quite a long trip, so who wouldn’t want to take a short nap after a while? The previous night, he was too excited to go to sleep. Unfortunately, what he confused with excitement was actually nervousness. Everyone wanted to revisit after what happened last year, but they all knew how that turned out.

A prank gone wrong. Girls gone missing. Panic. Police investigation. Nowhere to found.

Guilty. Guilty. Guilty.

He woke up suddenly looking around in the car. Okay, hopefully nobody noticed. Enzo’s eyes casted down to Davin’s phone vibrating. When the other male got his attention, Enzo laughed a bit leaning back in his seat.

“Ten bucks says its Ros.” With confidence, he didn’t have to hear if he was correct or not. He blinked when Dav turned around to check everyone. How adorable of him being the group’s ‘Dad’. “I know I am, I’m going to enjoy the unwanted snowball fights.”

Looking next to him, he noticed Natalie and wondered if she even wanted conversation. For now, he waits until she responds to Dav. He didn’t want to bother her until he knows that she’s in a mood to talk.

L: In car w/ Davin & Others. ][ M: Anxious, Slightly Excited][ T:17:26
It was a testament to how nervous she was when she flinched at the sound of Davin's voice.

But could you blame her? Even though Dav had invited her weeks ago, given her plenty of time to prepare for the inevitable social awkwardness that would unfortunately emanate off of everyone here (especially her), had assured her plenty of times after group therapy that 'No one is going to murder
anyone, Nat. It's just the eight of us gathering and commemorating some friends, relax.', had answered every question she had about the group so that she would feel somewhat safe among them, and even got her her favorite Green Tea before they left- she still couldn't help but feel that something was about to go horribly wrong. The pit in her stomach had grown to an exponential size as they had been getting closer and closer to the cabin, and she was simultaneously feeling the urge to call her brother to come pick her up as they got closer and closer to the destination.

She closed her eyes, trying to will the feeling away and fill her head with positive thoughts. '
Everything is okay, nothing is wrong. It's just a hangout, like Dav said- nothing more' She mantra-ed in her head over and over, until the anxious boulder in her body seemed to go away. Everything will be alright. "Nat?" She heard someone say, worry seeping through their tone which resulted in her slowly opening her eyes.

She saw a few people looking at her with a worry that made her shrink in her seat, others who (thankfully) looked bored with just being here. She sighed, looking at Dav who had a thin smile and concern clear in his eyes. Gulping, she nodded. "Yeah, let's do this." She gave a weak grin, trying her best to muster up excitement and enthusiasm but clearly failing when she saw sympathetic smiles being cast her way.

As soon as she said this, people started piling out of the car and towards the trunk, likely to get their bags and head into the absolutely
gorgeous cabin in front of them. She sighed, counting backwards from 10 and doing the same

-----------------------

When she went to go get her stuff from the back trunk, she noticed something missing: Her books.

She groaned, tilting her head back as if to ask
'Why god, why?' and pouted. 'Great, there goes the next few hours.' She ran a hand through her hair, closing the lid of trunk firm enough to close it but gentle enough not to do harm to the car. "Everything alright?" She turned her head to the side, not even noticing 'til now that someone had stayed behind. She just assumed that everyone would be inside, chatting away like old friends who hadn't seen each other in years, so she didn't even try observing the scene.

It was Enzo, who stood at the door to the cabin and had an eyebrow raised at her. She remembered Davin saying something about him, something along the lines of 'he's a dick, but a
nice dick.' and to not take his comments to heart. She gave him an thin smile, looking back down to her bag.

"Yeah, just... Some of my stuff is missing." She explained, awkwardness washing over her like a freaking
tsunami. "And that stuff pretty much was involved in like, sixty-six percent of my plans for the weekend..." She chuckled at the end, scratching the at the back of her hand as the familiar flush of embarrassment came over here. He didn't do anything but somehow raise his risen eyebrow even higher than before, and for some reason, the embarrassment-for some forsaken reason- got even worse.

Enzo - Cabin- 17:31

They finally arrived at the cabin. It looked just like it did the last time they left it. Dreary and empty. Before the incident, it seemed like a luxurious vacation home filled with fun, memories, and laughter. As expected, everyone changed since the girls were missing. They went about their separate ways and contacted each other less and less. Some went to college or go about their own life. Enzo was actually relieved when the idea of the annual retreat returned to the table.

Hearing a groan behind him, he looked back to see Natalie looking particularity annoyed about something. He decided to ask what was wrong and she responded to him. At least he thought it was a response. She didn't look him in the eye and she spoke softly. Thankfully, he was able to hear her and understand the situation that was happening.

He tried his best not to chuckle at her shyness. Taking steps towards her, his dark brown eyes focused towards her bag.

"Sucks." Enzo shrugged as if it wasn't a big deal. Of course he didn't mean to sound insensitive about it, he just wanted to make light of the situation. "Ya know...maybe its a blessing in disguise. You get to hang with us and share scary stories all night!" Seeing her reaction, he laughed softly lifting his arms above his head as if he was stretching. "Or you can take your chances with the library. I don't know where it is because...its a fuckin' library, but you're in luck." Tilting his head a bit, the taller male stares down at her.

"Need any help?" He asked motioning towards her things.

The jeep jolted with every bump in the road, the coldness of the outside seemingly seeping through Alaijah's window as she leaned forward and increased the volume on the radio, effectively blocking out the familiar crackle of tires against the ground. With dedication and an impressive sum of money, Alaijah had been able to purchase her own car due to her parent's insistence that the young woman would "not be going anywhere anytime soon." To her surprise, she found herself on the same trail that they had all ventured to before..they went missing and the girl "hurrahed" loudly in an attempt to thank the Gods above for not finding herself in the middle of nowhere. Alaijah had a tendency to get lost even when the directions were fairly obvious and she was pleased that there would be no hold-ups for the evening. Muttering the lyrics to a song that had decidedly become her favorite for the year and tapping the wheel in thinly veiled anticipation.

The radio seemed to stop and start at random intervals due to how high Alaijah seemed to be driving up, deciding to cut it off altogether and exhaling at the overwhelming silence which seemed to settle within the car, leaving her alone with her thoughts. The mountain in particular had always been a tad bit creepy, Alaijah had never appreciated the surrounding wooded areas and she certainly felt no comfort in being completely isolated up here seeing as that could lead to nothing but bad things. Especially given the fact that the girl was superstitious, buying into the most likely false tales of ghosts roaming the woodland and wolves lurking in every corner, giving the geographical location Alaijah highly doubted this but it still left her to wonder..

As Alaijah approached the general vicinity of the cabin, she let out a sharp scream which was followed by a series of swears as the radio turned on once more, the static becoming unbearably loud before she was able to shut it off, breathing a sigh of relief and parking the car directly behind what she was assuming was Davin's vehicle. The brake screeched softly against the ground and Alaijah immediately unclipped her seatbelt and hopped out, doing away with the notion of collecting her baggage until later and removing her phone from where it lay in the cupholder. There was no signal whatsoever for the device up here which wasn't quite alarming however it was still somewhat unnerving. Sliding her hands into her pockets, Alaijah shouted out a "WHAT UP?" to the two familiar outlines of Enzo and Natalie, an expression akin to fondness flitting across her features.

She was pleased to see them truth be told. Despite the reason that they were all present in the first place.

***Nat gave Enzo a small grin, her previous expression that she assumed translated into 'are-you-crazy' quickly melting off her features at his offer. "Nah, it's fine," She pulled the tiny handle out from her slightly stuffed carry-on. "I got it, it's not that heavy." She said brightly, tucking a strand of blond hair behind her ear, dragging the luggage next to her. "...But maybe I'll see you later? You know, after I'm done with the
fucking library, and what not." She chuckled lightly, reevaluating the entire phrasing, structure, wording and tone of the sentence- more or less wanting to beat herself over the head with a hammer at how forced it sounded. 'Fucking Library'- Did she say that? Was that an actual duo of words that came out of her mouth? She flinched from that thought. And may or may not have thrown an imaginary book at her head at saying 'What not'. 'What not'.

Jesus all mighty on a pixie stick, help her.

Enzo looked like he was about to say something, when the sound of a voice rang out which may or may not have effectively scared the
shit out of Nat. And could you blame her? Isolated cabin, miles away the nearest civilization and the nearest ranger site, no cell service and a creepy/mysterious yet tragic accidental backstory?

It's like the
perfect plotline for a horror movie, for Christ's sake.

She turned her attention towards the owner of the sound, eyes widening slightly in recognition at the girl that stood only a few feet away from them. Alaijah Newton- one of Davin's friends and supposedly one of the more approachable people in the group- stood next to her car, hands in pockets and with a fond smile on her face. Nat ducked her head, waving and muttering a small 'hi' to the woman in front of them with a small grin on her face.

Suddenly, the missing books wasn't a thing anymore. She could do this, she could
socialize and have fun and stuff, make friends and shit. And hey, if she winds out being way to awkward for normal human capacity, then she'd just retreat to the library, and everything would be alright. This weekend would be fun, and it would be one they'd never forget.

Enzo - Cabin- 17:35 - M: Enthused, Flirtatious

For some reason, seeing Natalie open up made Enzo warm inside. It’s a good thing that she decided to get comfortable around him. He just wanted to get her to step out more and enjoy herself with the others. Plus, there was something about her. There was a fun girl who loved to party and talk to other people without a worry in her mind. Or she’s still the shy girl who can’t make eye contact for more than five seconds and likes books more than people. Either way, he can accept that. There’s no problem with not wanting people in your face all of the time. However, being an extrovert it’s nearly impossible for him to relate.

He opened his mouth to say something, but he heard a familiar voice that stopped him in his tracks. Turning his head, he saw what he expected. The curly hair already gave it away before he yelled out her nickname.

“Bean! What the fuck is up?”

Approaching her, he then commenced a series of synchronized hand slaps as if it was a handshake then pulled her into a hug. It’s been a while since he’s last seen her. Alaijah and Enzo have a lot in common social wise, so they got along pretty great.
“Looking dapper as ever might I add?” He teased throwing a fake accent in the mist of it. Chuckling, he looked down at her before turning around to see Natalie shifting nervously where she was standing. “You met Nat, right? She’s joining the dysfunctional bunch this trip.”

Seeing the two females interact, he then felt a sudden chill down his spine. Damn, he hated the cold. Why did anything below 50 degrees exist? To Enzo, the only thing good that came out of the cold were Popsicles and ice cubes. Shivering, he pulled his beanie down a little lower to keep the icy wind from hitting his ears.

They'd arrived, the cabin being much more haughty than Davin let on. Jarrett had been worried he missed a turn, due to the fact that there weren't any other houses in the area. In fact, there was nothing but a Ranger Station/ General Goods and Gas station 30 miles out. He fought the urge to scream into the nothingness, if only to test the loneliness that hung on the wind.

Davin silently took their bags into the cabin, leaving him un-introduced to his friends outside. The quirky male called the girl who arrived behind them "Bean", which prompted Jarrett to wonder how someone could ever get such an unusual name. Maybe he bestowed it upon her--with the prattling he did on the ride up there Jarrett had him pegged as an idiot. And then there was the quiet girl, whom Davin decided to invite here if only to diffuse the tension that was gonna be thick like butter. She was too weird, and that was saying something since he lived with a guy who seemed to redefine what it meant to be crazy. He decided not to make any conversation, but stand near the group with his hands in his pockets. Unless he was spoken to he wanted nothing to do with this lot--at least not yet.

Nat was silently listening to the conversation Enzo and Alaijah were having, having giving up on trying to respond a long time ago and just nodding or shaking her head when questions were thrown her way, chuckling at a joke Enzo had made when she glanced to the side and saw Jarrett standing off to the side

She hadn't ever really met Jarrett, barely interacted with him when they had all met up to go to the cabin and even less so in the car, but he seemed decent. Davin hadn't really described him as anything other than his cousin, so she just went off by what she saw. He seemed silent during the car ride, not really talking to anyone on the way there- Though that could've been just because he was driving, and wanted to focus on the road, not because he didn't want to engage in conversation- and he seemed relatively nice. She considered waving him over, asking him to join the conversation and glanced back at the two in front of her and decided
fuck it. Today was the day of socializing, apparently. She looked back at Jarrett, calling out his name and waving him over with a a small smile.

'Please let this turn out alright' she prayed thought.

(Ros) Location - Cabin / Mood - Mischievous, Pleased

Ros

Freddie was taking
years down in the basement, she could hear various clanging here and there every so often. She'd draped herself across the shiver-worthy leather of their sofa, her hands tucked into the waistband of her pants in an attempt to warm them. She heard the low whine of brakes outside and then the thunking of a second vehicle and a smile rose to her lips. She shouted to her brother that she was going outside, earning an indifferent grunt from the man. She slipped her boots back on and threw the door open, before making her way down the steps quickly. It'd been almost months since she had seen some of them, a few days for others, but she was the type who never wanted to be apart from the people she loved.

"You guys look like shit," Ros commented as she approached, wrapping Alaijah in a quick hug. It was true, the group didn't look like they were prepared for any sort of runway show, but despite their greasy and been-stuck-in-a-car appearances, she was glad to see them. She let go of Alaijah and reached over to pinch Enzo's cheek, teasingly. She walked past the new girl — she knew the girl's name started with an 'n', but she couldn't figure it out in that moment — and made her way over to the car. Her insides were giddy as she spotted the dark mop through the window that Davin called his hair. She yanked the door open without any warning, her hands finding his forearm within seconds to pull him from his spot inside the car. Her arms wrapped tightly around his neck once he'd righted himself, now steady on his feet.

"You look better," The woman breathed against him, since she had been the one to see him first after the most recent breakdown. She was comfortable, leaning against her best friend for the first time in a few days, which was much too long in her opinion. She pulled away finally and her hands slid up to pat his cheeks affectionately. "
Freddie," She began, her voice hushing, the corners of her lips twitching. "Is inside stoking the fire, in case you were wondering." She sent a glittery wink in the direction of her best friend before turning to the others. "C'mon my lovely little ducklings. Let me introduce — and for some of you reintroduce — our abode to you." Without another word she made her way up the steps of the cabin, to the front door and inside. She did decide to be polite and hold the door open for the others as they made their way up and in.

The sudden rush of wind and pulling on his body almost incited a bloodcurdling scream from the raven haired man. It was only when he realized whose warm embrace he was locked in that his heart slowed in pace.

"Ros...mfff...I cant breathe." he groaned, even though her greeting made his heart swell just a little. When she commented on his appearance his shoulders slumped just a little. "Well, what can ya do, huh?" he replied, shrugging before sticking his tongue out at her. He was actually glad he was in the right state of mind seeing her this time. He tried not to crack in front of her
and her brother but this time she'd witnessed the aftermath in all its glory. He was about to ask about whom everyone would be sleeping with--and change the subject-- when Ros opened her mouth to tell him Freddie was downstairs. Immediately, his cheeks blazed from the blush that rose all the way to his ears. He hated the way his name made him behave like some Twilight toting teenage girl...and yet...

"Hey, make sure everyone gets comfortable inside. I brought some more food so don't be afraid to make Zoey and Jarrett bring that shit inside..." he said, casting a side glare at his brother. He was met with an equally vicious stare back. "Nat," he said, still walking backwards to the door, "This skank is Ros, my best friend in all the lands, and 'Laijah, the bitch who got us through high school. You already met Zo' and my brother...be merry and shit." he sighed, finally reaching the frame. He quickly turned tail and ran in, not caring at all about the giggles that were bound to follow.

***

Finally getting to the bottom step of the stairs, Davin gripped his pride and strangled it down. Every way something like this could go wrong was running in his mind--his pessimism was on overdrive. 'Fuck it.' he finally thought, pushing off forward and turning the corner. His broad back facing Dav, Freddie was busy tinkering away at the water heater. As soon as his mouth was open he realized he had nothing to say--at least nothing that would be less of a confession. So, being the masterful conversationalist he was, Davin made a noise that sounded dangerously close to a mix of a burp and "sup".

Alaijah had never been so pleased to see anyone in her life, a grin making its way onto her face as Enzo practically shouted out a common nickname for the young woman, initiating their routine greeting which never was liable to end in a solid handshake before embracing her. Enzo and her were sociable in most of their interactions, she loved his ability to defuse an awkward situation and she appreciated his company most of all, her grip tightening before she was being released. The compliment he paid was returned with a soft punch to the man's shoulder, Alaijah's grin only serving to grow wider as she spoke. "I'm fucking great, been a long time with no see, Enzo. We have to rework our schedules sooner or later, I've missed you guys." It was true, Alaijah had not been around her companions as much as she had wanted to and it had lately been taking a toll on her mood, this trip had proved to be everything she needed and more. At that moment, Alaijah sneaked a glance at Natalie, her expression softening at the girl's ability to radiate shyness, it was uncanny how different they appeared to be and Alaijah reaffirmed that she would try and attempt to start a conversation with the girl when she had the chance to at a later date. Alaijah opened her mouth and found herself duly interrupted by an energetic exclamation from her left, turning her head and clasping her hands together at the sight of Rosalin, holding open her arms and letting out a "hey bitch" as she received yet another hug. Pleasantries were exchanged and Alaijah surveyed their group, feeling an unusual sense of affection which overwhelmed her earlier reservations about returning to the cabin.

She had a feeling that things would possibly be alright. Letting out a triumphant "HELL YEAH!" as Davin approached both Enzo, her, and Natalie, her enthusiasm only served to grow at the sight of the asshole. As soon as she was introduced to Natalie, Alaijah made a show of bowing, her fingers brushing against the ground before she uprighted herself, following the others inside and pecking Ros's cheek in an attempt to thank her for holding the door. The cabin appeared to be the same as last time although the cold was prominent and the young woman hugged herself, shivering slightly and cursing the fact that she had abandoned her winter coat in the car. The place was certainly spacious and Alaijah found herself making a beeline for the kitchen, shouting out dibs on anything she happened to uncover and rooting through the cabinets. It was quite apparent that the girl was hungry, she had neglected to eat anything in her rush to get here and now that the initial buzz was over, her stomach was grumbling scarily loud. Wrapping her hands around a box of crackers, Alaijah opened the box and nearly dropped it before carefully setting it on the counter. Ants crawled out of the opening in a neat and organized line and the woman grimaced in disgust, cautiously gripping the box and placing it in a nearby trash can. "Guess we'll have to stay away from any box of crackers, I'm not too keen on consuming bugs." Alaijah was not too surprised to find that her appetite had all but disappeared and she returned to the living area, intent on starting some shit. "So, what the hell are we gonna do in a cabin together? Orgy, anyone? Murder party?"

Enzo - The Car - 17:56 - M: Reminiscing, Disgusted

As expected, Alaijah punched him on the shoulder softly. His dark brown eyes brightened when he heard her reply then started nodding in understanding, adding a "good" at the mist of her talking. Enzo immediately turned around his tall frame around after hearing Rosalin's voice coming from the cabin. Oh, here comes trouble.

"Oh look, she finally left from fingering herself to say hello." This was also usually the routine. Enzo and Ros usually throw snide remarks at each other calling it conversation. Enzo respects Rosalin in every way, he just gets a kick out of seeing her reactions to what he says. It's always usually a snap back, but this time she pinched his cheek and kept pushing to see her favorite person. This made the Italian snicker because his predictions were just as he expected. Dav and Ros, the infamous OTP.

With the others, Enzo listened to Davin introduce the others formally to Nat. Paying attention to her reaction, he narrowed his eyes a bit. For some reason, he knew that all of this made her a tad anxious. He snapped out of it hearing the word: food. As if it was a trigger, he began to jog up the stairs. However, he wasn't as fast as Alaijah once he got inside of the cabin. Apparently, she was already elbow deep in a box of crackers.

"Ay! You better share, damn i-" Enzo stopped his tracks seeing the shorter girl place the box on the counter watching the bugs crawl out. "Um...on second thought, you can have those." Slowly backing away from the kitchen area, he walked inside of the living room in front of her taking off his heavy coat. "Why not a blood orgy?" He suggested casually sitting on the couch, watching the others walk inside.

(Frederik) Location - Basement (Later) Outside / Mood - Embarrassed, Clumsy, Wary

Freddie

It was annoying that his grandparent's had never though to install modern technology. It was more annoying that they
apparently got the cheapest wood stove and hot water heater of their time. He'd fired up the wood stove quickly, though the flames didn't want to stay lit for very long, so he'd toyed with that for quite some time. He was fiddling with the hot water heater next, not planning on taking any cold showers while he was there. An awkward noise behind him caused him to jump, his head effectively hitting one of the metal pipes above him. He swore loudly, his hand already reaching up to rub at the spot he'd nailed worst. After a second of nurturing the spot with a bit of rubbing, he turned and, with a bit of surprise, spotted Davin. "Hey Dav," He greeted, cringing inwardly at how foolish he'd likely looked just a second before. His hand was still on the back of his head, already feeling the swelling up of an oncoming goose egg.

"I — uh, I'm assuming you already saw Ros? She didn't shut up about you the entire way. She was really annoying the few days you weren't over and — ," The man cut himself off. He wasn't about to bring up what had happened less than two weeks ago, since it was very likely a touchy subject. He knew Davin well enough to know he didn't like to discuss his meltdowns and Freddie had never been one to bring them up. "How was the ride up? I know Enzo can be pretty annoying when he sets his mind to it. And there's a new girl, huh? Ros couldn't remember her name, but she was blabbing about her too," Freddie knew that he was the one rambling now. Both the Berti siblings had a problem when it came to that, especially when put into situations where they were nervous — not that he had any reason to be
nervous. He turned back around for a moment and let out a sharp shout of triumph as the water heater roared to life, a pleased smile coming to his face.

All of the tension that had filled his body melted away in that instant and he turned around swiftly, sauntering over to the stairs. "C'mon, Dav. Ros wanted me to make a fire. You up for helpin'?"

9:09 PM

Fires were tedious things. Tricky, complicated, mischievous and annoying things. He had managed to get one started, while Davin had gathered a fair amount of wood from the snowy forest around them. Freddie had kept a careful eye on him, not eager to lose yet
another member of the group this year. He could hear Ros shouting inside, likely losing in the poker game the others had set up to play. She'd never been good at any sort of game, always giving her hand away with a few tell tale signs. The wind had picked up, making it a bit brisk outside, so he'd slipped on a jacket and a bright red beanie that he had found upstairs in the bedroom he would be sharing with Davin, as Ros had devilishly announced. He couldn't remember the other set-ups, didn't care to either, since it didn't seem like any problems would be caused. If that had been the case, he would have stepped in as the mediator — like always — and changed up what his sister had thrown together.

"C'mon you piece of shit, stay on
fire," The burly, blonde grumbled irritably, until, finally, the flame caught and the wood began to crackle. He let out an exasperated sigh and his hand reached backward for the chair he'd brought out for himself, collapsing in it, his feet propping themselves up on the stone wall that surrounded the fire. The chilly wind had made the tip of his nose cherry red, his cheekbones following suit, but he was glad he'd gotten the fire going, at least. He heard Ros shout again, this time announcing that 'her moronic brother had done it and they could now eat s'mores,' earning a displeased snort from Frederik. His sister came stumbling out — once she was adequately dressed for the weather — dragging a chair behind her. "Thanks big brother," She chirped once she'd settled beside him, kicking her feet up like his. He hummed in acknowledgement but said nothing else. He liked the silence of the moment, but knew that would soon be ruined by kids piling out of the house.

Shocked was an understatement to how Nat felt when the cabin's door was kind of just flung open.

She jumped slightly, whipping her head around to see
what the hell had just happened so fast she was positive she would have whiplash. She barely had enough time to see the woman walking down the steps towards the group before she was infront of them. Nat looked up at her with wide eyes, her eyebrows furrowing at the comment the girl made about their appearance. She looked down, critiquing her attire. Sure, it wasn't designer or anything, but it was decent... Right? She shook her head, looking back up to see that the woman was not there anymore, instead heading over to the car and-

Oh. Flinging the door open and dragging Davin out of it.

Nat's expression was almost comedic, her eyes as wide as saucer's and her brows almost touching her lashes with how furrowed they were. She was trying to process everything that had just happened in the last few minutes, forgive her if she looked a bit funny. She was tempted to ask Enzo if that just happened, or ask Alaijah if that was a normal occurrence, or maybe ask herself out-loud if it was too late to call Adam. She decided against it, instead just trying to figure out who the woman was. And it wasn't long before she got the answer to that. She just listened silently and nodded at Davin's introductions to the group, tense and unsure of what to do. She smiled uneasily at Alaijah's introduction, gazing over to Enzo and Jarrett at theirs. She inaudibly gulped and bobbed her head at the end of it before sighing and reaching for her the handle of her luggage to go inside.

--------

The moment she stepped foot inside, a cold shiver ran down her spine.

She shivered, rubbing at her arms and trying to huddle into herself. The cold nipped at her skin, biting whatever place it could reach and was conveniently exposed for it to torture. She wrapped the long, open drag of her cardigan around her, looking over at the cabin's interior and trying to get a feel for the place. Unfortunately, the building's atmosphere matched that of the temperature- Cold, barren, mysterious. Despite it's warm colors, the bright shade of wood and the cozy interior of the lodge, the place gave a sense of misery and dread- even though it shouldn't be. It gave Nat a feeling that she wasn't familiar with, one that she'd never experienced before- One she couldn't even identify. But whatever it is, it creeped her out.

She shook her head, blaming the feeling on nerves and anxiety before attempting to redirect her focus on something else. She looked at the direction of the kitchen, smilingly lightly to herself as she saw Enzo trail after Alaijah in there. But the smile was quickly replaced with a confused frown at the mention of a 'orgy' and a 'murder party'. She sighed, ignoring what the words meant before walking over to the stairs and climbing the flights.

Hopefully she can find that damned library.

21:09

After a few hours of wandering and searching throughout the lodge, getting lost about eight times (the lodge was fucking
huge, okay?) and cursing at whatever deity there was out there that would make finding a library this fucking hard, she finally stumbled on her new temporary safe haven.

She grinned, looking over at the small collection of books that were piled onto shelves
everywhere. Sanctuary, at last. She browsed through the aisles, plucking out a few books here and there - settling on a few romance novels and a lot of murder mysteries from the 90's before she threw herself onto a chair nearby. She picked the first one from the top, opening it and frowning slightly in confusion as to what was on the first page. It was a printed picture- somewhat new, as it still wasn't faded- that had the rest of the group on the back, along with two girls she didn't recognize. They were both pretty, having long brown hair, brown doe eyes, a heart shaped face and a button nose. She'd guess they were sisters, from how similar they looked. She grabbed the picture and turned it over, her frown deepening as she saw the words 'In Memory' on the back.

Huh, so these are... oh. Recognition flashed in her mind, before shock and sadness flooded it. Those are the two girls. The one's that-

She gulped, quickly putting the picture back in the book and placing it on the small mountain of books she had near her. That's enough reading for today. She sighed, plucking herself from the chair and walked out the now 'not-so-safe' haven, and headed for the downstairs area.

Jarrett cut around another corner, sighing in a rather irritated manner. Although his brother was invited here more times than he could count this was his first time being in the infamous Berti Lodge. The grand spaces were a little intimidating, honestly, and Jarreett was glad he thought of memorizing all of the layout instead of submitting to Rasalin's efforts to play Poker. As he walked further down the hallway he noticed a small blonde figure step out of the library, as he cataloged the room earlier. It was the girl from earlier, the one who waved at him. Her shyness had cracked, if just a little, and he decided he would take that as an opportunity.

"Hey! Natalie, right?" he asked, catching up to her as she started her descent to the Berti sister's beckons. "Why don't you sit next to me? The outsiders have to stick together, right?" he suggested, draping his arm over her shoulder. They walked out of the door that way, stopping only to retrieve jackets. He let her lead to the fire, dragging a pair of the wrought iron chairs behind him. He placed both next to Rosalin, whom he greeted with a closed smile.

"Take a seat, Natalie." he coaxed in a polite manner, waving to the chair beside him.

Enzo - Cabin - 21:09- M: Mischievous, Curious

Enzo walked around the house pumping a water gun, snickering under his breath. This is all kinds of fucked up for two reasons. Firstly, it's colder than Jack Frost's piss and someone can easily get sick if they are wet for too long. Secondly, now is not the time to spray a large amount of water on someone when they barely knew where the bathroom is. Did Enzo care? Obviously not.
Instead of being aware of someone's wellbeing, he quickly peeked around every corner as if he was James Bond with a half filled Nerf gun.

"Come out to play...Meech just wants to have a word with his precious victims." He mumbled under his breath, walking down the dark hallway. While trying to be sneaky, he passed a window then subconsciously took a glance outside. Enzo was going to continue, but he stopped seeing a shadow flashing by the window. "What the fuck?"

Yeah, he definitely saw something...or someone. Walking closer to the window, he stared outside looking around for the source. Maybe it was an animal? Another badger?

As if it was traumatic, he puts away the water gun and began to head outside. There had to be something out there. Enzo shrugged on his jacket, hopefully running into someone before he goes outside. Maybe its just conscious to want someone else with him. However, his hopes were short lived when he made his way out into the brisk cold once again. He was freezing his ass off and he regretted it greatly. If it was a bear, he would've died right there.

SNAP!

That made the tall male stop in his tracks. What the hell was that? Swallowing, he started to slowly back away towards the cabin.

"Fuck this shit, I'm out." He mumbled softly under his breath before returning to home base.

Nat was overthinking the situation.

She knew she was, and she also knew she had no
reason for it. It was just a stupid photo, likely taken before the whole incident took place and there was absolutely nothing significant about it except it's potential sentimental value- but for some reason the whole thing bothered her. It bothered her about where and why she found it. A picture like that would surely be in someone's wallet, or in some type of album to make it easier to see them- not in the world's most generic thriller novel, one with a cover so indistinguishable that it's ridiculously easy to lose it. And why? Why put it there? The books aren't organized in any way, shape or form,... And the novel itself was so similar to other works in the library. You'd have to take the time to memorize the exact shelving of the library itself, and have the exact placement of the book branded in your fucking brain to find it again. It was ridiculous.

She sighed, stepping out of the library and into one of the many hallways of the lodge (She counted at least 4), sticking her hands in her pocket to protect them from the numbing cold as she walked over to the staircase. This is silly., the whole thing is probably nothing but her reaching again. Someone probably left it in there the last time they were reading it, and forgot to get it back later. That made sense, right? Yeah, that totally did. Losing pictures isn't too uncommon, and lot's of people do it. She rationalized her thoughts, writing all of this off to someone's forgetfulness. She shook her head, trying to shake out any of the lingering doubts in her head before she started to descend the stairs.

------

Nat walked slowly down the steps, hand gripping the cherry-wood railing when she heard footsteps behind her.

She looked back, the corners of her lips tugging into a smile at who she saw. "Hey, Jarrett." She greeted, watching with a nervous grin as he caught up with her steps. She hadn't realized that anyone else was up here, guessing that everyone had gone down to play Poker with Rosalin or something. Huh. It was weirdly comforting to realize that she wasn't the only one who didn't want to play cards tonight. She sighed in a slack manner, pushing a lock of hair out of her face before curling her arms around her.

She perked up at his question. "Uh, sure I guess." Nat chuckled, tensing up as she felt his arm on her shoulder. She tried to relax, silently breathing deep breathes before she felt her shoulders unsquare themselves. She sighed, nodding at Jarrett and letting him lead.

------------------------

Down was a very intriguing direction tonight.

Seriously, it
was. There were lots of very special and previously uncharted thingies down there that likely no one has ever seen. Like that speck on the wood that looked like a slightly darker color than the rest covering it. Or!- or, that one... thing. Yeah. That thing. Oh, THAT thing was the best of all, yeah! It was- It was shiny, and round, and-

...

Okay yeah, even Nat can smell the total bullshit she's spewing. but she has a good reason for spewing it in the first place!

...

Well,.
Sort of good reason.

For the past 5 minutes Jarrett and Natalie had been sitting at the campfire, the latter to anxious and frustrated with the questions in her mind- Yup, they
came back.- to even try to engage in conversation. For the past 5 minutes, Natalie was staring into space with the world's most constipated look on her face as she tried to figure out that damned picture. 5 Minutes of Natalie mumbling 'dumb ass picture' and 'stupid library' and 'why the fuck would they put it there?', along with many other strings of equally embarrassing sentences. She only just now realized how quiet it had been just now, and was too afraid to look up in fear of seeing an expression of horror and mocking amusement mixed together graced upon Jarrett's face. What? Oh, like YOU wouldn't be worried if YOU were the one who did all of that!

...

Don't look at her like that!

She sighed, pulling her gaze from the ground and looking over at Jarrett, pondering over what to say and how not to completely fuck it up. Quick, what were things people usually liked to talk about? She glazed over topics, trying to find a suitable one that everyone likes, to some degree. Oh, but wait, she doesn't know any of these topics- fuck! She internally groaned, wanting to smack her head with a hammer.
Just say something, anything!

"So, how about them knick-socks?"

Knick socks.

Knick Socks

Dear Jesus help her.
