Tyrese had the conventional upbringing of most middle class Americans. The youngest of three, he missed out on the younger generation his older brother and sister were born into among the kids in their neighborhood. Much of his early childhood was spent pining after the attention of his siblings and their friends, but not wanting to be burdened with the role of babysitter, they would often collaborate on ways to skip out on looking after him under their parents' nose.

The one exception to this was a girl named Madeline, who was the middle child of the family next door. Maddy was born only a year after Tyrese. After many arranged play dates, it became habit for Ty to go to her house to play after his siblings managed to ditch him. Their friendship continued through grade school until, when Maddy turned thirteen and old enough to receive the blessing of her parents, she asked Tyrese if he would be interested in going out with her. Thus marked the beginning of his first relationship at the ripe age of fourteen.

Yet it was the dawning of his sophomore year that a lot of repressed feelings by his parents came to light. Their marriage had been crumbling behind closed doors, leaving a vacuum between them in all family outings. Their father's passion for his wife had died out a long time ago, and every attempt on her part to reconcile only pushed him farther away. They had been holding out on a divorce so as to not hurt the kids, but after a suddenly explosive dinner conversation, they couldn't stand each other a second longer. Their mom packed her bags and moved out that night, taking their daughter with them.

The rest of the year was spent assorting custody issues, dividing their belongings, money. Tyrese had all but retreated into Maddy's home. The only thing that distinguished him from living with them was where he slept at night. It was the only solace he found during those times. Living in his own world with his perfect, wholesome family, he was able to keep his chin up at school and continue with his work. Only Madeline and the teachers knew of the chaos he was actively evading.

In school, he was an average student. He only put forth the effort needed to complete his assignments and pass his classes. He tried band for a year, but quickly found that he only liked blasting on his trombone. Instead, he took up tennis in high school. He was popular enough among his peers, with fluctuating aspirations of being the class clown across the years, to the point where he was one of the most discussed candidates for prom king his senior year.

Between he and Maddy, who had maintained a stable relationship through Tyrese's four years of high school, they had discussed plans of marriage together, starting a family, and everyone who knew them was certain they would spend the rest of their life together.

However, after moving into his dorm freshman year of college at a university miles off from his home town, they began to lose contact. He joined intramural sports, a couple of clubs, became involved with the housing program. The more involved he became, the more he had to prioritize over his Skype calls with Maddy. His grades were teetering on the edge of failing, but he was having the time of his life. It got to the point where he would go a week without talking to her, forgetting he even had a girlfriend back at home.

It was during one of these times where, in a flurry of passion, he hit third base with one of the girls in the housing program.

The morning after brought sudden clarity of what he had done. It was a one time thing with that girl, he knew, and was certain to make a point of when he eventually confided in Maddy of the incident. Madeline broke up with him after learning what had happened, which Tyrese felt certain she had been waiting for since his graduation anyway.

A month later, however, drama within the housing program and nostalgic feelings from his childhood had brought him to contacting her again. They made up then and there, with promises that what happened would never happen again. That summer, their relationship was going just as strong as ever, yet sophomore year, he slipped back into the same pattern as the year before.

Through the art club, he met a senior named Jaylen. The two hit it off almost instantly. Jay had an impressive portfolio already, taking online commissions regularly for his digital work. He spurred on a period of inspiration with Tyrese, who began refining his arts in favor of playing sports. Three months into getting to know each other and one night after walking a local nature trail, Ty mustered the courage to share a kiss with Jay.

But once again, there was his girlfriend back at home. This time, Tyrese ended it with Maddy. He was determined not to mess up with Jay like he had with her. Honesty about his feelings was the key to this, he rationalized, and towards the end of the semester found the opportunity to let Jay know about his past relationship with Maddy. Jaylen, however, was appalled to learn Ty had not waited to end things properly with Madeline before making a move on him, and brought an immediate end to their relationship.

Thus began a string of relationships for Ty, getting back together with Maddy, getting caught up in a fling with another guy, until finally she stopped believing things would get better and ended things for good.

Tyrese was burnt out after this. He took a pause in rashly delving in and out of these relationships and began to properly reconcile his feelings about Jay and himself. He began to rationalize his mistreatment of Madeline was a result of internalized homophobia, blamed his parents for setting a bad example for him. He tossed aside the traditional masculinity he had upheld for the first two decades of his life and embraced his newfound homosexuality.

Ty went from an ambiguous plan for a career path to focusing his attention on art and modeling, experimented with drag. He wanted to go a step beyond Jay, quit school and delve straight into his work as a freelance artist—an idea which may or may not had been prompted by his slipping GPA. But first, before making the final push for this unprecedented career path, he wanted to be sure he had some accumulation of wealth to fall back on should he fail.

[ reason for playing ]

Tyrese wants to simultaneously gain fame for the benefit of his future modeling and related careers, which all rely on being known, and also rake in enough money to quit college and live out on his own.
