Two Sides of the Crater (Open)

Keith and Kara


"Rise and shine!" Keith chimed as he playfully poked his sleeping sister. The sun had just began to rise over the horizon, but already Keith was ready to start the day. Kara, however, was not.


"Five more minutes," she groaned as she pulled the covers over her head.


"Not a chance, little sister!" Keith exclaimed as he yanked the covers off of Kara's bed completely.


"Hey! That's mean!" Kara sat up, yawned, and rubbed her eyes. "Alright, fine, I'm up. What are we doing for breakfast?"


Keith held out a small package of dried meat, which Kara took and immediately began eating. Once she had finished, the two made their was from the attic bedroom to the ground floor of Kara's tailor shop. Kara turned to start checking what she still had in her inventory, while Keith headed for the door.


"I'll need another quilt when you get a chance, but other than that, my shop should be stocked as far as cloth items go," he says as he steps outside. Keith only had a short walk around the tailor shop to get to his general shop which had been built parallel to the tailor shop. He flipped the sign on the door to say "open" and went inside. Keith would idly start arranging items while he waits for customers, as Kara would continue taking her inventory while watching the door for anyone who needed clothing repaired or custom-made.

Valerie


Valerie rose as soon as the sun broke through her windows, not wasting any time as she walked downstairs from her apartment to retrieve a bucket of bath water. It was inconvenient that she had to do so, but adaptation was crucial in these times. As she did every morning, Valerie took a bucket of water from the lake up to the apartment building she lived in far within Greencastle. Just one bucket proved to be sufficient enough for a shower, so long as Valerie was not careless, which she never was.


Using a bar of soap she had made herself, Valerie cleans herself, then hops out of her shower, and throws on a pair of mint-green scrubs from the closet. Now, for breakfast. She had a bit of bread and dried meat, along with a glass of water she had set apart from the bath water earlier. Not the most tasty breakfast, but desiring for the comforts she once had was pointless in this situation. Valerie finished quickly, and headed downstairs, out of her apartment, and to the doctor's office where she waited for patients.

Alister woke up and got out of bed. he brushed his teeth and got ready. he grabbed his belt and holster off the hook and noticed the strings of the holster were coming loose. "damn need to get it their shop." he said as he grabbed his gun and a few mags. as he walked through the shopping district many of the shop owners waved and said hello. he finally reached Keith's shop. he walked and said "Heya Keith! ya here?"

Keith


Keith walks out of the back of the store where he was busy straightening things up. He looks to Alister with a welcoming smile. "Morning Alister. How are you today? What can I help you with?" he says in a friendly manner as he makes it to the front of the shop.

Already up earlier, Johnathan would have checked over his plans for the day, making sure to double check them. After getting things sorted for when he begins his work, he would walk about town greeting the people that were out and about, seeing Alister and Kieth already about, he would walk over to them, "Morning yous two, how are you guys doing?" he spoke towering over them, to someone that didn't know Johnathan, he would be very intimidating but those that knew him, he was as harmful as a box of kittens, most of the time.

"well was wondering if ya could fix up my holster its getting worn down." he said as he set down his holster with a loud thump. "oh heya fella how ya doing. the name is Alister, the local enforcer." he said patting the big guy on the back.
 
Keith


Keith looks up at Johnathan and smiles. "Good morning, Johnathan. I'm doing quite well so far, how about you?" Keith then looks to the holster Alister set down in front of him, picks it up and examines it. "Hmm. Nothing a few stitches couldn't fix, I suspect, though I'll have to consult my expert on that," he speaks in a somewhat playful tone as he sets the holster back down on the table, then turns to walk to the back of the store. Once there, he opens a window that faces on of the back windows of the tailor shop just a short distance away. The window to the tailor shop was already opened, and placed about four feet directly from the window was a wide board. Keith picks up a slingshot and a bean bag from a nearby table, and uses the sling shot to fling the bean bag at the board through the tailor shop's window. The bean bag hits the board with a loud thump.


Kara and Kieth


Hearing the thump as she was laying out the fabric she would need to make a quilt, Kara pauses her work, and walks over to the window. "What do ya need?" she says in a friendly, but direct manner.


"Alister's needing his holster repaired. You want to come over there, or should I send him to you?"


"Ah, I'll come over there. A holster's probably not a big deal," Kara says. She then takes a bag off a hook nearby, slings it over her shoulder, picks the bean bag off the floor and puts it in the bag, then climbs through her window, and over to the other shop's window. She hops through the window with ease and makes her way to the front of the store. "Let's see what we've got here," she says as she walks over to the counter, picking the holster up and examining it.

As the brake of dawn, as the sun rose from the horizon, her legs wanting to claps from all the walking "as soon as I get home I'm just going to fall on my bed and never get up" she sead to herself as she started to approach the town of Greencastle she walked through the town full of stuck up assholes who think there better than anyone else, until she came the the doctors office, she clutched the files the doctor had sent her out to get, she


walked inside and sead "hi" the the young girl at the desk in a tiered groggy voice.

Valerie


Hearing noise at the front desk, and seeing that she had no other patients at the moment, Valerie walks out at a brisk pace with her head held high. Seeing the scavenger, Valerie remembered about the files she had needed. "Ah, so you found them," she says, not wasting time with pleasantries as she reaches out to take the files.

"I myself am feeling fit as a fiddle but it's good to hear you're doing good Keith, and your sister, how is she? Oh, before I forget, need any help this old dog can help in?" he said with a big happy smile smothering his face, like he never knew how not to smile, before looking to Alister, "How about you lad? needing any help?" Saying that he would have an arm leaning against the wall.

Kara


Kara looks up at Alister for a moment, and smiles. "Fine," she says briefly and then looks back to the holster. "This will only take a few minutes," she explains, and then reaches into her bag, pulling out a needle and thread. She threads the needle, and begins working on repairing the holster. She doesn't look up at Johnathan as she gives him a brief answer. "One of our stairs creek."


Keith


Keith smiles back at Johnathan, and nods to Kara's comment. "One of the steps to the upper floor of our tailor shop looks like it's caving in a bit. Might just need to replace the board on it."

Valerie


Valerie reached over the desk and pulled a small sack off of it, holding it out for the scavenger. "Just what we discussed," she says. Inside the bag would be enough of the Greencastle coins to buy enough food for one person to last one week, plus the several days that the scavenger had taken to retrieve the documents.

I grabbed the bag and threw the documents on the table, I wink at the girl at the front desk and head for the door, pitting the small pouch in my bag "see you in an hour doctor" I say back at you as as I walk out the door slamming it behind me, I start makeing my way down to the ring fights.
 
The smile on John's face widens, "Alright, let me have a look at it and I'll have it fixed in no time, just let me get my things first." With that he would head back to his house to get his tools, some planks of wood and a few nails before returning, having to duck under the door frame and head to the steps, walking up the stairs to test them against his weight to hear a loud crack on one of the steps, "It needs replacing now at least but no worries, I'll have it sorted in now time." As he said that, Johnathan would get to work, pulling out the nails that were attaching the broken plank to the stairs he would begin measuring up the size of plank he would need, marking the wood he brought with him to the correct measurements, going outside he would get his saw and cut the wood to size, returning to the stairs and began to nail it place, fixing the issue in about ten minutes, including him going to get his tools and things. "I fixed the step, should be right as rain now." saying that he would put one of his feet on the step and started pushing down 'til he was sure it would be fine, after that he would head over to Keith and Kara, that were sorting out Alister's holster "fixed the step and has my seal of approval, so, anything else?"

Valerie


Valerie does not seem surprised by the scavenger's demeanor of comment. She calmly takes the files off of the front desk and walks back to her office, telling the girl at the front desk to notify her when someone shows up. As Valerie gets to her office, she shuts the door behind her, sits at her antique style desk, and opens the folders she had been given.


Ring Fights


Located in what used to be a subway station, was a dingy, smoky arena for Greencastle's more violent forms of entertainment. The crowd gathered was bustling with excitement as they awaited for the next fighters to be announced. Near the entrance there would be two booths, set up using old fold-up tables. The left would be to enter a fight, the right would be to buy tickets to watch, and to place bets. A path had been blocked off next to each table for people to either join the audience, or be escorted to the ring. Among the crowd were callers, who at the time the next fight was announced, would also start taking bets from the people who had already made their way inside.

Keith smiles as John returns, then pauses to think. "Not that I can think of. Things have been fairly slow lately, so our equipment hasn't seen much wear and tear just yet. Can you think of anything, Kara?"


Kara


Kara shakes her head, still looking at the holster as she finished working on it. She would not open her mouth to say anything until she had finished repairing the holster. "I'm done," she says in a soft voice, and hands the holster back to Alister. "I don't need much for it, since I only lost a bit of thread. Maybe a piece of jerky or something."

As i make my way into the building a man asked me "fighting or watching" I sead fighting and I bet 500 on it, I stepped into the ring the men shouting and screaming at me, the man in the ring with me looked down at me, as the bell rang and the fight begun he through the first punch I dodged and hit him across the face, makeing him hit the floor, I grab his arm and twist it pulling it back, before I can snap his arm a man runs at me and stabs me in my side, I fall to the ground in pain after they try and badge me up I head back to the doctor, I stumble in the door and fall to the ground I look up at the young girl at the desk again "Hay mind getting the doctor" the blood starts to b rip from the bandages onto the floor, I hold my side as hard as I can.

The girl at the desk runs to get Valerie, who calmly follows the girl out to the lobby. Valerie kneels beside the scavenger, and examines the bandages with an expressionless face. "Are you able to walk to the examining room?"

Alister takes the holster and straps it on. "here." he pulls out a small bag of jerky and sets it on the desk. "so how ya guys been lately" he says loading a mag and cocking the gun.
 
Keith


Keith sits on a stool behind the desk, arranging the tools he has off to the side. "Not as busy as we've liked to be. Work comes in spurts, usually closer to winter when people are needing more clothes and things from Kara." Keith shrugs. "But, you take what you can get."


Kara


Kara moves to the side, and leans up against the wall. She doesn't say anything, but she felt it would be rude to just leave.

Keith pauses to think for a moment. "I've heard about the trade boats thing, though I haven't taken a trip across the crater in a while, so I haven't run into any. I'll be sure to let you know next time I need to get across, though. Other than that, there are rumors of rabid or violent wolves and such on the outskirts of town. It could be just rumors, but you might want to check out at the farm to see if there have been any problems down there."

"Alright then, I have some work to do anyway, so, I'll be heading out. Just give me a bell when you need anything" Saying that he would head off and go start doing the work he was planning on doing that day, making quick work of it, since the work that he was doing was mainly maintenance on everything, which were all basically in good nic, other than a few minor things that didn't need replacing. After that he would go about town helping people in ways he can, whether that was to move things, do some small fixing of things that weren't on his list of things or even making sure people weren't doing anything stupid.
