The summer sun beats harshly upon the pavement, heating the concrete. People chattered about this and that, the upcoming festivals, what they were doing on the weekend, among other simple topics. The trees were in full bloom, with thick, healthy branches and the grass was never greener. At that exact moment in time, five souls each lived theirs lives simultaneously, small candle flames in a sea of lights, attempting to keep burning, attempting to shine bright. Each person, unbeknownst to one another's existence did their best to take each day was it came and keep their heads up. Different from each other but tied together by an unfortunate string of fate.

There was in Kyoto, on a corner, away from the busy roads, a small little place, cubbied between a coffee shop and an office that dealt in home insurance. It was quiet, hardly anyone passed by, aside from the occasional civilian, paying little attention to that little corner. A sign in pale violet lettering read simply:

[ツグーコーナー]
Tsugu's Corner

It was an internet cafe, or so that's what it proclaimed with dusty old computers and pastries to keep the belly full. A small woman, hunched over at the counter wore a mask, perhaps as some form of uniform for the quirky little cafe, and remained silent unless spoken to. At that moment in time, those five students would slowly be drawn to this cafe, maybe because it was a familiar setting or maybe because it caught their eye as the commuted home on that very hot friday afternoon.

The air inside was warm, smelled of cinnamon and there were small subsections for sitting, eating and computers in rows along the walls. Each of those five high school students who had their whole lives been around one another while never realizing it, finally, finally met. Maybe it was a passing glance or a hello. Maybe they actually started a conversation. But they came together, those unfortunate students and together, simultaneously, those lights flickered out.

So abruptly, one could hardly acknowledge how quickly it happened... Without warning, the ceiling caved in, for a reason they were unable to discover and like that, they all died, alone together in that cafe.
In Tsugu's Corner.

So suddenly their lives ended and so suddenly did it begin.
Each of them opened their eyes in their beds, just as they had awoken to find the sun shining on a bright, very warm, and familiar friday morning.
