Appearance: Trystan has a tall (5'11") dancers build, slender with small shoulders, but lacks the muscles. His skin is sickly pale and will burn immediately when he is walking in sunlight. Argaxx, his pet companion, is a dark blue reptilian about the size of a horse. He has froglike hind legs and strong lionlike forelegs with sharp claws. Underneath it has a big goatee. His sense for smell and heat are situated in gill like openings in his neck.

Backstory:

The Ravenscar clan is a long line of specialized hunters. Legend says one of there forefathers even caught death itself. Now, the family is not that heroic anymore, but very wealthy. Trystan was born as the third son of Mortimer and Eleanor Ravenscar. Mortimer had been a great hunter once, though no one could see that through all his pudginess. He was a very kind man, in contrast with his wife Eleanor, who was cold and ambitious. She insisted that her sons were taught how to hunt in the old fashioned way.

Trystan’s childhood was filled with hunting trips together with his brothers, mother and occasionally specialized tutors. At first Trystan loved them. He got to go to some amazing places and see new animals and plants. He asked a lot of questions and soaked in as much information as he could. However, at one point they started pushing him to kill the animals. Trystan couldn’t get it over his heart. In the beginning his mother thought it was just an age thing, but as Trystan got older he still didn’t want to. She tried several methods: using a knife, shooting it from a distance, laying traps. Nothing worked. At one point she was so desperate that she put herself in danger. That did get Trystan to kill it, but it upset him so much that he fled home.

At home they had a lot of rows, before and after the event. Trystan always fled to the library to read about the flora and fauna of Gaia. His father noticed and supported him in his education. One night he had a big fight with his wife, the whole manor could hear it. The next morning it seemed as if nothing had happened, except that Trystan got sent to his father. His father told him he had arranged his son’s application at the Sanctaphrax University. Trystan said his goodbyes to his family and left home.

His years in Sanctaphrax were a dream. He learned about biology and got to meet likeminded individuals who valued life as much as he did. His relation with his mother also improved a lot over the distance. The dream did not last long. After a mere three years he got a letter notifying him of his father’s passing. Trystan was devastated and immediately traveled back. The whole house was in sorrow. However, there was not much time for sorrow. Tradition demanded that the three sons had to battle to become the new head of the Ravenscar clan. Not a battle by force, but more like a quest. The first one to bring back a Arthorax would get the position. Trystan had mixed feelings about it. He did not want to kill a living being, but he also wanted to please his mother for old time’s sake.

As the youngest, Trystan had to wait for his brothers to go first. When he finally started on his journey he used his knowledge to gather a lot of information about the species. Then he traveled to the region where they lived and studied their behavior for quite some time. After he thought he had a thorough understanding of the being he laid a trap. Against all odds he actually managed to capture one before his brothers did, a young one. However, he still had a long way home, made much longer by the fact that the Arthorax was still alive.. On this way he met his brother, Morrigan. He congratulated Trystan on his feat and said he was the rightful heir. The next morning he was gone and so was the Arthorax. Trystan had been betrayed by his own brother. This was the tipping point for Trystan. He absolutely despised the ways of his family. He did not want to be part of a family that chose prey over their own blood.

He followed his brother back to the family manor. Morrigan was welcomed with great festivities. The ceremonial execution of the monster was scheduled the next day. When everyone in the house was asleep, full of the fine wine and food of the dinner, Trystan snuck into the dungeon’s. He freed the Arthorax and ran away from his home with the intention never to return. He brought the animal back to where it came.

Trystan traveled back to Sanctaphrax, constantly followed by news of a path of winter that seemed to follow him. When Trystan tried to go back to Sanctaphrax, he was denied entrance. His family had noticed his betrayal and withdrawn all study funds. Trystan was furious. How could they take everything he loved after they had already betrayed him once? He was about to do something really stupid when he found the source of the winter. The Arthorax had somehow bonded with Trystan and had followed him all the way back. The loyalty of the animal was very comforting, so Trystan adopted him. He named the animal Argaxx and changed his own last name to Frost.

Weapons & Armor: Trystan owns Macha, One of the three hunting knifes of the Ravenscar family. He often wears leather hunters gear and a magical Cloak of Concealment.

Argaxx could be considered a weapon, but he is more of a character than a tool.

Items & Personal Belongings: An extensive field guide of well-known flora & fauna. Parchment and writing material for making his own book. Some rope for setting traps. A field set for analyzing new species (binoculars, some chemicals and some surgical tools).

Skills & Abilities:

·        Extensive biological knowledge due to his years at the university and out in the field.

·        Stealth and tracking skills from his huntsman training.

·        Great tactician.

·        Diplomatic in order to avoid violence.

Spells & Magic:

·        Conceal: while wearing the cloak Trystan is able to not be detected by a sense of choice for a short period of time. He will still be sensible by the other senses.

·        Mutual understanding: Trystan can communicate with other beings on a primal level. It is not very accurate, mostly on an emotional basis, but it surpasses all language barriers.

·        Link: Trystan can enter a state where he becomes one with an animal. They will sense the same and share thoughts. This only works for lesser beings which he is emotionally very close to. When he uses it for too long he risks that some of the animals behavior becomes part of his.

·        Frost Breath: Argaxx can produce a very cold breath freezing everything within a 3m radius.

Weaknesses: Trystan is very gullible to deceptions. He fails to see potentially dangerous situations because he sees the best in everyone. Even during fights he will use as little violence as possible. If his relationship with Argaxx is not good, Trystan cannot do much in a fight.

Quotes: “Violence is for people who cannot think of a way around it.”

So far it looks good.

Argaxx sounds incredibly cute, but useful. (You know what I mean! Pet familiars, etc are just awesome)
