Characters :

  • Name: Remmy Volke

    Age : 23

Background : Remmy has always been one for science, Earth Science that is. Ever since he was little he has been inspecting every rock he has come across. He was and is sort of quiet, until he gets excited about something. At which time he can have little sort of freak-outs where his excitement gets the better of him. He will often start babbling about some sort of mineral and go into a trance. He is a rather strict vegan, though he isn't braggy about it. He also doesn't like to brag about the fact that he is on track to get his Doctorate by 24.

Remmy was holed up in his lab, as per usual. The school gave each student in his program, all six of them, a small lab space in which to work. It was ideal for his studies, since it was a year long series of experiments he was working on, and he could keep things as he wanted and lock up when he wasn't there. He was currently sitting on a stool, his long legs pulled up onto the rung along the bottom as he crouched over his work table. His lab coat was customized and something he had since high school. It was the normal white, but the back was painted to look like a fossil of a full T-Rex. Patches were sewn on along the front and sleeves, mostly from museums and state parks he had visited.

He was looking at some samples under his microscope, 80's hits playing over his small speaker. The notes in his small notebook were anally neat, with color coordination and small diagrams dotting the page. He hummed as he worked as he had been doing for a few hours. He was that kind of person. The one who forgot to take brakes because he got so focused on what he was doing. His glasses-like goggles slid down his nose every so often, causing him to let out a grunt before pushing them back up again with his upper arm. His hands were covered in gloves that were covered in dust, so he didn't exactly want it near his eyes.

It wasn't until his stomach let out a rather loud grumble, that he realized he hadn't eaten yet and it was nearing 3pm. He sighed as he looked at the clock and slowly stood. There were granola bars in the vending machine and they would do just fine. He stripped off his gloves and goggles, leaving the lab coat as he figured he would be back soon, and made his way out of his lab. He stopped to lock it before leaving, not wanting his test area to be altered even in the slightest, and made his way down the hall.

A few crumbled bills later and he had one of those almost-too-crunchy Nature Valley bars in peanut butter flavor. He leaned against the wall and ripped it open. He never ate or drank in his lap. The smallest thing could mess up his work. Seeing as he was already on a break, he decided to take out his phone.

"What're you up to?" He texted quickly, sending the message to his best (and some times it seemed like only) friend, Adrien. He could only imagine what was happening with him, especially if he wasn't in class.

Adrian could feel the heat of his lamp that sat on his desk. He was still trying to work on his newest device, but he wasn't having so much luck today. As with all of his experiments there were some mistakes but he enjoyed the trial and error process. He wiped his forehead, leaving a smudge over his right eyebrow since he wasn't wearing gloves. Unlike his Remmy, his work space was very disorganized but he somehow didn't have a hard time finding things.

He finally set down the device and groaned out of frustration when he heard his phone go off. Grabbing it, he leaned back in his chair and replied. Still working on this device. You're gonna think I'm a genius when I finally tell you what it is. He knew that crazy was the word Remmy would likely use, not genius. He was always dragging his poor friend into his experiments and more often than not they didn't end so well. This would work though. He was sure of it. He took looked through some of his notes which were a scribbled mess. There had to be something he was missing, something he'd overlooked. He sighed and tweaked things around a little more before deciding to stop for the day. At least for now. You busy? Let's go do something, I'm too frustrated to work right now. I don't have any classes today. He hit send and waited for Remmy's response.

Peeling off his lab coat, which was an off white color with random stains all over, and tossed it onto his chair. He left his lab and locked the door before heading to the dorm he shared with his best friend. They were opposites in a lot of ways but they also had a bunch in common. They had met at the university and just clicked right away. Adrian had a lot of friends, kinda, but Remmy was his closest. He took a quick shower, checking his phone again when he got out. He didn't know what he wanted to do, he just needed to take his mind off today's failed attempts. He was so close, he could feel it. Something was just off. If he could figure it out, he might just be the first person to successfully create a time-travel device. Then everyone would have to take him seriously.

I suppose we can do something. I've worked all day... give me fifteen minutes?

Remmy stuck half of his granola bar into his mouth as he quickly texted back, the words typing out faster than his mind could work. His texts were often riddled with pauses and um's, as he wrote the same way that he talked. Of course, he was only one to stumble over words that didn't involve rocks and minerals.

He pocketed his phone and quickly finished up eating. Even if he was just going back in to the lab for a moment, he wasn't going to do so with any food on him. He ate as quickly as he could and then wiped his hands down with some Purell from a pump on the wall. Wiping his hands on the front of his lab coat, he made his way over to his lab again. He opened things up and left his keys in the lock, where they dangled and swayed gently from the weight of his Iguanadon keychain. He made sure all of the electric was off and laid his coat out neatly on the back of his chair. He would either be back later that night or the next morning, and liked to have things organized each time he came in. With one more quick check around the room and then the locking of the door, he was off.

Thankfully the dorms weren't too far and he didn't feel the need to rush. He fiddled with his keys as he walked, a nervous habit that he could never seem to shake.
