Rin Satsumura
T H E B A S I C S
Name: Rin Satsumura
Nickname:”Big Sister” Rin
Age:24
Height:5’5’’
Weight:116
Date of Birth: May 1990
Place of Birth:Ward 11
Gender:Female
Sexuality:Hetero
Appearance:
Rin often wears shirts or sweaters with a pair of tights or a skirt to match. She ties her hair up more often then she lets it hang, and she can sometimes be seen wearing glasses whilst reading or after an especially long study session.
She’s a college student working towards her degree in nursing, so seeing her with a messenger bag or a text book is by no means rare. She wears scrubs from times to times for her internship but is not often seen in them if she can help it, finding them to be “lame” and preferring fashionable clothes over the utilitarian garb.
She has a small tattoo of a dove on her left upper arm/shoulder that has since been scratched at, a few scars make viewing it difficult to make out at times. She hates it when people stare at it. In addition to this she has a few scars on her left wrist, the result of her battle with depression, a battle her brother helped her beat. She wears a purple ribbon over the few scars on her wrist, the ribbon given to her by Taro is one of her prized possessions and she often tugs at it when she’s nervous or scared. Both of her ears are pierced twice, though she often just wears one stud in each.
That said she can sometimes be caught wearing odd earrings as a form of expression since she's required to wear scrubs on the job, like her “little” brother she has a thing for key chains, as such she adorns her phone and bags in a number of strange dangling characters.

Personality:
“Hmmmm? Who am I? What an interesting question, well let’s see here. I’m a nurse so that means I’m caring right? Oh and I’m a student so that means I’m smart right? Well I guess not technically, but hey give me a break I’m a hard worker, and I’ll bet yah I’m smarter than you. At least most days, I mean I have my moments, who doesn’t?
Hmmm…Okay, Okay if I have to sum it up I guess I’d say I’m a sister, it’s what I take pride in. See my brother’s important to me, our mother and father died a long time ago, and we, well we decided we were gonna make it just fine without them. He’s everything to me, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything in the world.
All and all though I’m not only a sister, so relax I’m not a siscon. I want to meet Mr. Right too, and I want Katoro to meet a girl one day, we can smile then you know? We’ll be the kind of parents that laugh, and watch the kids play, watch them have lives that we couldn’t you know? I-I think Katoro wants that too, I-I mean he-he’s a special kid, he lost his memories see, and our brother…I-well I don’t really remember him but Katoro seems to. Anyways seems our brother’s playing an especially mean prank, and Katoro’s picture is on the news. Add in the fact that he’s a ghoul now, and I sure have my hands full. But, I’m not gonna give up, this is our way, having no parents never stopped us, having each other is all we need, and together we’ll manage, I just know it!”
-Rin Satsumura
History:
Rin Satsumura was the daughter of a young Tokyo business man and an especially lovely former idol. For a time as the sole heir to the family she was pampered with gifts and presents, spoiled by her father and mother regularly and held in the highest regard.
Eventually her mother would become pregnant and Rin would watch as her attention was cut right down the middle with the birth of her younger brother. At first she’d detest him, after all he was the root of her diminished attention, but her brother Taro was dedicated and looked up at his sister to no end. Over time he’d wear her down, and the two would become a bit closer, with Rin no longer outright ignoring him, but still tensions would remain.
All the same Rin still bullied her brother, getting him in trouble and convincing him to do things for her at his own expense was common. For years this would continue, and while their parents grew worried they ultimately decided the two would grow out of it.
Rin would go to school, finding academics rather easy she’d put many to shame and make her folks very proud while her brother Taro excelled in sports, often times struggling with academics. The two were opposites by every stretch of the imagination, but still Taro would hold his big sister in high regard, with Rin dismissing him more and more.
It was when Rin was finishing middle school that her mother grew very sick, and her father would take time off to nurse her. Rin was at a loss for the first time in her life, the competition for attention wasn’t a concern anymore, no a life was on the line literally, and she couldn’t do anything! Rin retreated into a depression, avoiding her mother’s hospital, while her brother went every day.
Eventually their mother was within her final breaths, and after their father spoke with the doctors it was deemed that their mother only had time enough to see one child before she’d depart. Rin having avoided their mother wasn’t offered the opportunity, with the offer instead being offered to Taro. But Taro refused the offer, giving up his mother’s last words to his sister.
Rin was shocked by the act of kindness, and upon visiting their mother learned that Taro had covered for her absences all along. Her mother told her to take care of her family, noting that family is the most important thing in this world.
Rin grief stricken and taken back by her mother’s words agreed and let her mother go. Unfortunately that sentiment her mother expressed wouldn’t hold true for her father, who after losing his job in light of the amount of time he’d been taking off, left the country, going overseas to find work.
For a brief time Rin and Taro were put up in foster homes, bouncing around for their high school years before their father came back to sign for them and bring them to an apartment he’d bought in their names.
Over that time in the foster care system Rin fought bullies on behalf of her younger brother, and cemented a bond with her sibling, the likes of which she’d never known. Soon after their father came back he was gone again, leaving them a sum of money and writing them a note that made it seem doubtful he’d ever return, finding his children too terrible a reminder of his deceased wife.
Rin didn’t much care, to her their father was dead, the only family she needed in this world was her brother. For a few years life was good with Taro just finishing his entrance exams to get into a good art school, one where he could draw amazing heroes, and try and show people how they “should” act.
It was then that tragedy hit, suddenly and without warning, as it is ought to do. See only three days away from his new life as a student, Taro was hit by a drunk driver, his body mangled, his life forfeit.
Grief stricken and at a complete loss Rin went to the funeral only to find her father sitting there. She wasn’t sure what to think at first, but when he spoke at the podium she knew, there he was, a man that hadn’t even known Taro, speaking as if his tears were genuine, as if his family ever really mattered to him.
Something snapped in Rin, she couldn’t name it; she had no idea what to call it, this feeling in the pit of her stomach, in the depths of her head. So she made a plan, she’d follow her father, and kill him.
After all he was the cause for this right? Right!?
Somehow Rin got a gun, and after following her father near their home after his night of drinking and gambling, she’d lose him in an alley. Her stomach would inevitably turn, how could she squander her chance to avenge Taro!? Desperately she’d run out into the night, looking for her father only to find her stomach in much worse shape as she came to find him.
Disemboweled her father lay on the floor, dead, as a young man sobbed above the corpse. Rin’s mind raced, breaking at the seams as she realized she’d been denied her only chance at revenge, that her brother was dead, that she was alone.
The crying man, glanced at her with a mouth covered in blood, and a single black and red eye, th-this was a ghoul! Rin fell to her knees, looking at the crying figure, wa-was he alone too? She’d wonder, before her shock addled mind put the pieces together.
Her brother couldn’t be dead! He-He must be a ghoul! He was turned into a ghoul, that was all! That had to be it! She’d reason, stopping her own tears, as she looked up at the confused young man, the man that only knew the name Kat. This was her brother, she was sure of it now, so she’d stand, reaching a hand outwards to Katoro.
This was the start of her new family; a family that she’s convinced herself has always been there. Katoro’s her younger brother as far as she’s concerned and she will do anything for him.
Goals/Aspirations:
Rin just wants Katoro to be happy, ultimately she wants to see her little brother work things out with “their” big brother, but she’s prepared to see the worst come to pass. She dreams of a day where she can live in peace with her brother, where people won’t persecute him for being a ghoul, where they’ll appreciate him for the good he’s trying to do. Deep down even if she doesn’t admit it she wants a family again, to find others besides just her brother to call her family, she’s tired of it just being the two of them against the world.
Fears:
She fears losing her brother, her mind’s been broken by shock and she’s already forgotten Taro’s name, deciding to replace her younger brother with Katoro in her grief. To lose her brother again would be the end of her world, and she knows it, which is why she’s so strict and motherly with Katoro.
Also has a terrible fear of Dogs, the exact reason isn’t certain but she kinda loses it over the sight of them.

O N T H E J O B
Job: Nursing Student
Abilities?:
Rin is a healer of humans, but also aware of the anatomy of ghouls, having read a number of textbooks from the academy, and asking a friend that works at the CCG’s Ghoul disposal facility. She’s a pro when it comes to cooking and an ace when it comes to giving shots without one feeling it. Though this could be considered a combative ability, to be able to prick folks with who knows what with little to no indication, it’s most often not seeing as she’s seldom ever in a combative situations.
- She’s a pro at convincing others to do things, to call it manipulation wouldn’t be fair, see it feels more genuine, she puts a certain degree of feeling into every request, and she invests enough of herself into people, taking note of their features to gain their trust sooner than most should ever be able to.
- She’s one of the few students at her school that drives, having inherited her father’s old car.
- Rin also has a photographic memory, allowing her to remember things and commit them to memory with an incredible degree of accuracy and speed.
Strengths: A good orator, and a caring yet stern individual, Rin is as tough as a civilian gets. She’s headstrong, persuasive, and loyal to those she holds dear, to say she won’t stop until she gets what she feels is right or just would be an understatement.
Weaknesses:She’s a human, and not one particularly equipped to fight. Her knack for defending or standing up for Katoro or the weak also has a habit of getting her into trouble.
Notable achievements: Getting into a great School.
Relation to Ghouls: Became the “Adoptive” big sister to Katoro Kawashima after he was drugged, given amnesia, and turned into an artificial one eyed ghoul by his older brother, Yuu Kawashima.
Relation to the CCG:None, other than having a single friend training to be what equivocates to a morgue technician in the ghoul disposal center.
"From where you sit, you call him a monster, me? I call him family. And look, I know it might be the death of me, but isn't family worth dying for?"
