Realistic or Modern To the City of Dazzling Lights!

sethjordan6.jpg
LIAM PARKER

The city lights from the Florence marketplace illuminated a dark landscape, the sunset captivating. Liam looked out to the city from his bedroom window, helplessly lost in his thoughts. He could not believe that everything was happening to him so quickly, but he was thankful. For too long he has wanted to explore more of the world, no matter how frightening some of it seemed. However, the fact that he got to be with his friends made things better for him. He grabbed his suitcase, scanned the room once more, and made his way downstairs.

Today he wore a dark blue pair of jeans, tan boots, and a green shirt to match his socks. He carried a fur jacket, for winter has arrived and rain was too fall later in the evening. As he strolled down the hallway, everything else around him became a blur. Lyrics played in his head until he opened his mouth, then softly sung them. There was also a peculiar sparkle in his eyes, but no one seemed to notice.

Liam was outside in front of the orphanage now, and he couldn't help but admire the trees. Many of them still had leaves on their branches, in colors of green and gold. He began to wonder where his friends were, for he felt deeply about offering them encouragement on their journey.

As more of them appeared outside, he walked away from them all. He was done with his goodbyes.

With a heavy breath and a quick glance of the familiar grounds, he noticed his friends. "Hi, guys! We should get going, our train leaves in thirty minutes." The path to the train station wasn't very far, so they should be able to beat the rain.

Ever since the idea of moving to Paris with her friends had been suggested, Robin had been so excited that she felt she could burst. She didn’t remember the country at all despite being born there, as she was abandoned in Italy as a newborn. However, books at the library, TV shows and the internet had all sparked a passion for the French culture and French language in her. She was overjoyed that the language she had been teaching herself for all these years could finally be put into action, and that the place she had been admiring would be her new home, with the people she loved- her friends.

Robin woke up at 5am this morning, unable to sleep as she was filled with nerves and excitement. She started packing two days before, so there wasn’t much for her to do but sit and read one of her French books. The words on the page seemed to come together in her head, and she was proud that everyday the language made more sense to her.

Dressed in a long, black and white plaid trench coat, white top, blue skinny jeans and heeled boots, she made her way down to meet the others- intentionally late, as she tried not to portray just how eager she was to her friends. The cold was bitter and her hands were already turning numb. She put them in her pockets, not fussing too much about the cold. She walked over quickly to the others.

Beaming, she greeted them all “Hey guys! Where’s Liam?” As if on cue, Liam appeared, walking down the path, meaning that everyone was here and they could start to leave.

“Hi guys! We should get going, our train leaves in thirty minutes”

Lucianna has woken up hours ago. Her first order of business was to pack up everything she hadn’t the night before, and then to double and triple check everything. Her second, was to go around and do all of her chores one last time. She wasn’t one to ever leave a job unfinished. She went around and did the dishes, took care of the animals, and a few other things. After that she went around and said good bye to everyone that was awake, giving hugs and kisses to the little ones, who she had helped to take care of. She loved the small children in the orphanage, they were like her siblings.

As excited she was to leave and see the world, she was also sad. The orphanage was the only home she had ever known. She sighed a little as she jogged out of the front door, suitcase in hand, shortly behind Liam, standing beside him silently for a moment before looking up at him with a smile
“It’s crazy, huh? I can’t believe we’re actually leaving!”

Langdon Sutcliffe

Langdon sat, fully dressed and ready for travel on the bed he'd been occupying for the last 5 years. He gazed out the window at the horizon and sighed heavily before looking down to his small suitcase and briefcase to match. He'd been scarce with his allowances, he'd been saving for the trip for the past couple of years, even before plans were made. He stood finally and took one last look at his bed before exiting the dorm without a look back.

He knew the staff were disappointed, even after five years the case on his missing mother was still open, and his assets frozen. The reward they were looking for still yet to come. "Don't forget about us!" They had said. 'Don't forget our compensation, you mean.' He had thought. The officer in charge of his mothers case had asked him if he'd like the case closed, now that he was going to be leaving the orphanage and may need his inheritance, but Langdon refused. If it was open, the police still had leads. Which meant so did he.

He rolled his suitcase out the front gates of his old home and quickly spotted his friends he smiled warmly at the group as they talked. Liam taking the lead, and the younger Luci optimistic and excited as usual. He smiled at her and raised a teasing brow.

"Your first taste of freedom, Luci. Are you sure you'll be able to handle it?" He said with a smile.

Romeo took one last glance at the bedroom he had slept in for almost his whole life. Over his shoulder, was a black messenger bag that carried most of his essentials. Unlike, most of his friends who had all sorts of possessions Romeo had barely, if any. He didn't really believe in saving up, and when he got a check he usually spent it on whatever it was he wanted at that moment. This was the reason why whilst everyone had stacks of clothes and the like, Romeo had a few.

His friends usually got on him for that way of living, but it didn't really affect him like that. He was a live-in-the-moment type of guy. He looked over his outfit at the mirror next to the dresser. A black hoodie, with the jersey of his favorite sports team over it, a pair of light blue distressed biker jeans, and some hiking boots.

He knew some parents would disapprove with the style, but it didn't matter him. He thought it looked cool so he dressed that way.

With one last longing gaze, the newly turned young adult closed the door and headed out to go meet his friends.

Luci smiled up at Langdon and shook her head, she didn’t really mean no, it was more of a humorous gesture. She set her hands at her hips and looked down
“I’m not sure, I sure feel ready, though.”

She let out a small chuckle and leaned a little closer to Langdon, humming a little. It seemed like there was only one left to join them, and then they could go catch their train. She would miss the orphanage, Sure, but she had always thought of this group as more of a family than anyone else. And of she had them? She had everything she needed.
“Do you think the dance school will accept me?”
She asked quietly, almost doubtfully

Marceline Lenoir

She had spent most of the day packing and spending time with her friends who wouldn’t be joining her on the trip to Paris. The children in particular would be the ones that she missed the most. Their smiling faces and innocence would brighten her day more often than not. And the caretakers who actually cared for her would be missed as well. Marceline could remember a time when she refused to interact with anyone, she had been determined to isolate herself and now she was getting emotional about leaving the same place she had hated so long ago. The orphanage had been her home for so long, it was hard to part with it. But now she was following a dream of hers. Traveling had always been something that she wanted to do. To learn about different cultures and to see all of the beauty they She to offer was her ultimate goal. Well that and becoming a top notch fashion designer.

Marceline had packed all of her things into her suitcases. They were by no means brand new, she’d managed to grab them from a thrift store. It was a place where she got most of her clothing. Thanks to her skills she was able to turn the most basic outfits into something nice. After saying her goodbyes Marceline grabbed her jacket and walked out of her long time home. She smiled slightly as she noticed her friends gathering. The young woman walked over. “Are you all ready this trip of a lifetime? Of course you are.” She chuckled. “How much time do we have?”

Salem shot up from laying down on his mess of a twin size bed. The blankets were on the wood floor, covered by novels, marble notebooks, and laying on top all of it was his acoustic guitar he has had since seventeen years old. Now, Salem's bed didn't even have a comforter, let alone sheets on it, just the mattress. The one large suitcase that Salem had was open and stuffed with flannels, denim jeans, bland looking tee shirts and a pair of black converse on top of all the mess. The tired boy glanced around the mess of his bedroom. Salem quickly stood up and checked the time on his wrist watch, shrugging slightly. Salem then walked over to the window and opened the blinds, expecting sun gleaming into his eyes, but that wasn't the case, "Wait..." Salem looked down at the time at his wrist watch again, "Shit!" Salem's agitated yell could be heard all around the orphanage (despite Salem not being the type to yell, he has his moments).

Salem picked up his converse from the top of his suitcase and slipped his two feet into the pair of shoes, not worrying about the laces. Salem quickly finished stuffing his clothing into the suitcase by putting all his bodyweight onto the suitcase to close it. He then stood up, jumping at the sight of his acoustic guitar and tons of novels and notebooks. He groaned, stumbling over a pillow and his shoelace, but managing to catch himself on the nightstand. The last ten minutes of his packing involved Salem putting his novels as a preteen into a box for the other kids at the orphanage to read and enjoy the same magical feeling Salem had while reading them. The rest of the ten minutes Salem had left was the five that he used for

packing a tiny carry on full of his notebooks he wrote his poetry, songs and occasional stories in, tidying up the room to the best of his abilities, tearing edgy band posters off his wall and lazily combing out his hair.

Salem then gave one last look around the bedroom he'd spent most of his late childhood and teen years in. He took a sharp inhale, trying not to get himself down. This was suppose to be great for Salem and his friends. It was suppose to be the time they were going to truly find out theirselves and experience a whole new world. The thing is with Salem, he didn't know how he felt about packing up and leaving somewhere for another time, once was enough. Salem picked up his things and shut off his light, but in that same second, turned it back on, "My guitar." Salem huffed and grabbed the guitar case. He then gently put his acoustic into the case and zipped it up, "There," Salem slung the guitar case over his shoulder, grabbed his suitcase and carry on, then made his way outside to his friends after saying goodbye to the rest of the orphanage and the caretakers.

"Guys!" Salem called out to some of his friends that had arrived, thankfully he wasn't the last one that would keep everyone waiting. With excitement, Salem forgot about his worries of leaving the orphanage and began striding over. The only thing Salem had forgot to do was tie his converse, "Who's excited for Pari-" A wimpy scream came from Salem suddenly as he tripped over his laces and onto the grass.

Robin turned around quickly to see who had screamed, her eyes followed down to the floor to see Salem had tripped over his own shoelaces. Robin laughed a little, shaking her head. “Only you could do that, Salem.” She knew he had a bit of a record for being the clumsy one, but it always made her giggle.

“Here, let me help you up. And to answer your question...” She held out her hand and helped Salem stand. “...I’ve never been more excited in my life.” She smiled widely- Robin had barely stoped smiling today, more happy and radiant than usual, if that was even possible!

She gazed up at the sky, which was slowly darkening to a dreary grey. She checked in her bag for her umbrella, making sure she was ready if the rain started to pour down on their journey to the train station. She scrambked in her bag and suddenly realised she had lost her umbrella- it was probably sitting in her room. ‘Shit’ she thought. She turned to her friends to see who could help. Lucianna had to be the most organised, and Robin knew she could count on her if she had forgotten anything, so she hoped that she would have a spare umbrella.

“Luci... do you have an umbrella I could borrow?”

TabShift TabShift

Luci was known for frequently having random items that were oddly appropriate for random situations now was most certainly one of these occasions. She nodded at Robin with a smile
“Sure thing!”
She turned and dug through her suitcase for a few seconds before producing an umbrella for her friend. She herself rarely used it. She loved being in the rain, and had once read somewhere that rainwater was good for your hair. How true this was, she didn’t know, but she liked to think it would help even a little with her hectic and untamable hair.

Once everyone had arrived at their meeting spot, she cast one final look to the orphanage, and the. Started walking towards the train tracks, the very distant sound of a horn blowing was what initially cued her to start on her way
“Come on! We’ll miss the train if we don’t get going soon”

LIAM PARKER ?️

The scream from Salem caught his attention, causing him to whip around quickly. There was Salem, in some silly predicament as always. He moved towards him to assist him, though Robin was already doing so. He scratched the back of his head, and agreed with Robin. "I'm excited, too..."

Liam waved at Romeo, motioning him to join the group. He paid little attention to Langdon, but was happy to see him talking with Lucianna. She really was such a hopeful individual, and he couldn't wait to experience France with her. Marceline's arrival somewhat startled him, for she has always intimidated him. In good ways more than bad. "Hey, Marceline," he began, wrapping his arms around her for mere seconds, "we should leave now, actually." Liam gazed into her eyes before pointing down the path lined with more trees and a small lake up ahead. He could tell his nose and ears were becoming pink from the cold weather, so he put on his fur jacket.

A drop of water landed on his cheek, a smile painting his face.

He began down their path to the train station, assuming they would be there within fifteen minutes. I can't wait to see the train...

Outside was really rainy and wet, so Romeo flipped up the hood of his sweater, and hurried to join the guys. It was one of those days where it was rare to see people out and about. Everyone was kind of huddled up and talking, and even though no one said it Romeo could feel the nervous energy in the air.

For most of them, it would be the first time traveling out of Italy. At least it would be for Romeo. He had never really thought of leaving the country. Whenever he did think about moving, it was within its borders. Or to a different city.

Langdon smiled warmly back at Luci and nodded, reassuringly placing a hand briefly on her shoulder. "How could they not? With your athletic prowess I'm sure they'll snatch you right up." He said encouragingly before regathering his things as the group began to make a move. "Just maybe... Resist the urge to scale the buildings in Paris and you'll be fine." He teased, referring to her love of heights. He wasn't so fond of heights personally.

He picked up his case and began to follow Liam down the path, giving all of his friends a warm smile of welcome. He took a deep breath of the crisp morning air and pondered what would await them in the big city. Now that the reality of leaving it all behind was in front of him he smiled to himself as the nerves and excitement bubbled up in his stomach. He couldn't wait for the food. The delicacies of Paris.

Although he didn't let it show on his face, he was just as eager and ready as the rest of his friends all bubbling around him. At least his first steps outside the Orphanage were being taken in good company. No one was alone.

Luci grinned at Langdon, leaning into his hand for a second before he retracted his touch.
“I can’t help it!”
She responded jovially while hoisting her suitcase onto her shoulders and started to move as well, a little slower than the rest though, so Romeo wouldn’t be at the back of the pack alone. She walked a few paces in silence before leaning towards the male slightly and looking at him though her peripheral vision
“Are you excited for Paris Romeo?? What are your plans?”

Marceline Lenoir

Marceline’s attention was stolen by Salem. She watched as their friend hastily made his way her, only to trip over his feet. She laughed at his antics. Marceline made no move to help since she knew that the others would. “Nice going.” She shook her head. Marceline returned Liam’s hug. “Hey.” She smiled slightly. Marceline pulled the hood of her jacket over her head when a drop of water hit her forehead. “Just great, I spent all that time putting together something nice and now it rains.” She grumbled. Marceline zipped up her jacket. “I agree, we should leave now. I might go crazy if I have to wait anymore.”

Romeo followed the gang, albeit a bit slower then the rest. Everyone was so excited about the trip and chattering happily, but Romeo couldn't help the sudden wave of nostalgia that flooded his system. Like the day he and the other kids visited the city park. Or when they raised money for a trip to Rome, by selling candy bars.

Romeo snapped out of his musings when he saw Luci back away from the group and stopped to let him catch up. He appreciated her gesture.

"I'm excited for the fries there." He joked. "They better be top notch." He smiled a little and looked at the ground as he walked.

"I just want to have fun, but I sure will miss this place. I want to come back someday." He mused.

Tall Bear Tall Bear

Eloisa was late, and she knew it. She hadn't meant to be, but she hadn't gotten time to herself until after classes ended, which meant she'd had to stay until 4:00 for the kids who took Saturday off. And then there were chores to do: dishes and sweeping and general tidiness; just because she worked as a sort of teacher's assistant in the orphanage's school didn't mean she got out of those. And after that, there had been goodbyes- to the owner of the bookshop next door where she'd worked for the past two years, to the other kids at the orphanage who she'd lived beside for six years, to the friends she'd made and the friends she was leaving behind. People always left, at the orphanage, so she wasn't entirely sure why she'd felt the need to make her goodbyes, but she knew she couldn't go without doing so.

And finally, after all that, she'd rushed to her room to grab her bag. There wasn't much in the way of personal possessions: a few shirts, a few pants, a glasses case, and the long flowing skirt she'd gotten with her first paycheck; there were some family photos tucked into the side, along with the money she'd saved from part-time jobs, and that was all. However, the rest of the bag was absolutely crammed with books: textbooks, prep books, study books, every book she could get her hands on. Eloisa knew what she'd be going up against if she wanted to go to medical school in France: she'd heard horror stories about the baccalauréat, and she knew without the prior education most other French students had, she'd be at a huge disadvantage. The books were her best chance at offsetting that. She couldn't afford to leave them behind, literally- they'd cost her too much money, when saving for expenses would be hard enough already

So, with all that, she wondered if she could ever have expected to be on time. But there wasn't time for wondering either- the train left soon, and she had to run. Pulling her thickest coat over a bright yellow shirt, she grabbed her bag and rushed out the door to meet them on the path. Thank god, they hadn't left yet.

"I'm here, I'm here," she called, "Hi, guys, I'm here, please don't leave without me."

More clouds formed in the dark sky, and rays from the sun had vanished behind the mountains.

The sound of the train could be heard a short distance away, causing Liam to take longer strides. In the distance he saw the train station. It is Florence's main train station, and whoever built it put a lot of detail into the structure. Brick pillars supported a wooden roof, a beautiful gold clock built into the wood.

Droplets of water began to fall more rapidly, but thankfully the group had reached the train station. He looked up at the sky before turning to his friends, offering everyone a smile. "We made it, just on time." His fur jacket was wet, so he removed it, and draped it over his suitcase.

The air began to smell of rain water, and a light fog was created.

A loud buzzing sound caused him to jump as the large train door opened. An attendant stepped off the train, and held out his hand. "Passes." Each of them had received a train ticket from the orphanage, and Liam was just grateful his hadn't been ruined in his jacket pocket. He handed over the ticket and walked onto the train, the cart just for them. The cabin was warmly-lit, and the upholstery of the seats were falling apart, but Liam was pleased. This was first train ride, and he almost couldn't believe this was happening for him. His excitement caused light tugs at his heartstrings, but he made his way to a bench with green fabric where he sat and crossed his legs.

Sofia muttered insults against her alarm clock as she threw on her jacket, blowing hair out of her face as she tugged a gray and black duffle bag out from underneath the bed. This was the day she had been waiting for her entire life and she was late. She asked her alarm clock to do one little thing and wake her up two hours before the train was supposed to leave, but instead it choose to let her sleep in. Sofia hobbled out into the hallway with one shoe on, the other propped on top of the duffle.

Sofia had her bag packed since the day they all decided to go to Paris. Her friends were the only ones keeping her tied to the orphanage and she didn't have anyone else she was willing to stay behind for. She assisted in the kitchen sometimes and she was good for doing a more thorough cleaning job in the bathrooms than the younger kids, but she could count on one hand the amount of times she interacted with the staff for a reason that didn't have to do with chores and the other kids were put off by the way she acted. She didn't know what she would do if the train left before she got to the station. Use all the money she saved up to take a cab? Come back to the orphanage and...?

She wouldn't have needed an alarm clock if she hadn't spent so long scrubbing the floor of her room. Sofia pulled on the other shoe as she pushed open the door and took off at a run down the street. She wondered if the staff even knew she was leaving, or if they thought she was just going out for the day and expected her back later. Her heart dropped when she saw that the train was already at the station. "Please, don't leave yet,"

It was starting to rain, but it would be worth being soaked if she made it. Sofia charged up the steps, but was relieved when she spotted her friends. It looked like some of them hadn't gotten on yet. She found her pass crumpled near the bottom of her duffle and got on one of the train cars in the front, making her way past the other patrons to the car where her friends were. She collapsed in the seat across from Liam, disheveled and panting. She smiled, waving at him.
