Backstory: He comes from a lineage of royal bodyguards that lived their whole lives protecting the king and his family. Lead bodyguards are required to keep their faces concealed so that they may never develop a personal connection to their masters. Declan was assigned to protect the princess when he came of age and became the most trusted person the princess knew. He followed her everywhere and took more mortal wounds for her than he could count. He'd do anything to keep her safe.

He later discovered that the enemies he fought were on the defense because they were being invaded. He realized he was being lied to about what he thought was right. He became passionate and angry at the king and joined the rebellion, becoming infamous for using his powerful prosthetic in battle.
