Adam

They will announce who we chose here soon.. Adam thought to himself, sipping the glass of sparkling water carefully. His face hidden behind a dark blue mask; crafted by some of the finest hands although that was only his opinion. Sighing as he heard more laughter coming from nearby; causing him to glance around spotting the young woman he had told the royal guard he would like to be paired with. Nothing but a pair of eyes and a fine dress, that was all he had to go on. Shifting he set his glass down when a loud clink against glass could be heard, drawing everyone's attention to the front of the room. The moment everyone had been waiting for had arrived. Adams blue eyes followed his mother as she stepped foreword with a smile.

"Welcome everyone; to the annual ball. We are so glad to be holding it here in Falilth this year and just as glad that all of you have come to witness the announcement of the pairings. A reminder; those wearing a golden flower with their suit or dress are the first born children of the royals of each of the ten countries. Each has chosen their partner. A reminder to them; these next two months you will be spending here in Falilths royal palace so you have the chance to get to know your betrothed before your wedding day..." His mother cleared her throat, still wearing that forced smile. It was never pleasant from what he had heard, never fun to watch your first born child marry someone from a country you considered an enemy. "Now for the announcement you have all been waiting for. Princess Elizabeth of Westbrook is with Prince Kim of Azuma kyōwakoku. Princess Cassandra of Alastral is with Prince Calvin of Armalian. Princess Scarlet of Dililian is with Prince Deyious of Terious. Princess Charlie of Arendale is with Prince Adam of Falilth. Princess Margaret of Ormarsh is with Prince Adrain of Malvolia. Now I ask that all guests clear the dance floor so that each pair may have the last dance of the night with their chosen partner." Adams mother smiled stepping down, the silence barley lasting a moment before each noble who was attending began to whisper as they made room for the royal children.

Adam made his way through the crowd looking for the young woman, no Charlie was her name, the girl who had taken his breath away the first time he saw her. Removing his mask and sliding it into the front pocket of his black suit as he approached the young lady who was now his fiancé. "Princess Charlie, may I have this dance?" He asked giving a respectful bow before offering her his hand.

Scarlet

Most girls might have dreamt of balls and floor length gowns such as the one Scarlet was wearing; but the young woman had never been like most little girls. She had been born with a title and felt as if she was just being sold of as some sort of cattle during this entire event; but doing as she was told she had selected one of the young men wearing a golden flower at random. Deyious is his name then, huh? She thought with yet another sigh removing the richly colored mask at last, for there was no more reason behind hiding her face. So he chose me just as I chose him, what are the odds. She muttered in her mind, already tired of the fancy gowns, laughter, and the entire event itself.

"Thank gods this is almost over." She whispered her thoughts aloud, only the final dance of the nigh. She spun on the heel of her black heels, her emerald ball gown swishing against the tile of the floor. Dark colored eyes searching for the man she was supposed to dance with but faltered when she couldn't spot him in the crowd. Guess he'll come find me then. She rolled her eyes, really not caring if he was to come and ask to dance with her.

Adrian was a mess. He didn't know if it was out of spite towards his parents or just for the fun of it all; It was his last act of defiance. After a few to many drinks, Adrian spotted a girl across the room. Her piercing blue eyes glared through her mask, as she made her way across the room. She seemed pleasant, well mannered, but it was hard at first glance to truly judge a person. He had begrudgingly accepted the fact that he had to marry into one of the neighboring countries, but that didn't mean he had to like it. Adrian had gradually learned how to put on a straight face, and walk through life like a stone cold wall. He knew how to brush people off and hide his emotions carefully. Tonight however he had a mask to hide behind all his insincerity. He had to prove to his father that he was worthy to rule over Malvolia, even if that meant marrying into the family of the enemy.

Taking another quick sip from his drink, Adrian retreated back to a corner, ready to observe the other first borns. It was impossible for him to pin point which person was from which country, and this ignorance frustrated him to no end. He wanted to be prepared, and ready for whatever came at him, but that was hard when everyone was hiding themselves behind masks. He looked over to see his father chatting with a nobleman, probably about buisness matters. It just helped to reminded him that he was just a pawn in his parents game. No matter what he did nothing would change, and his father would always see him as on object to use for the kingdoms gain. Taking another swig from his drink he went to look for the pretty girl with the flaming red hair. She had been the only one to catch his eye so far.

Adrian listened as they announced the names of the pairings. Princess Margaret of Ormarsh. His father had never been particularly fond of Omarsh and he glanced back over to see a pleasant grin upon the king of Malvolias face. It must have been the king of Omarsh Adrian's father had been talking to before, probably setting up some political scheme no doubt. How interesting that the mysterious red head woud be the princess of Omarsh. To be honest Adrian couldn't care less, mainly because which ever girl he had chosen would make hime feel like he was marrying an enemy.

Looking up around the crowd he spotted her again. Among the swarm of people she definitely stood out. Adrian had yet to decide if that was a good thing. He was officially to be wed to Princess Margret of Omarsh, and he decided that the best thing to do was look past all his hate, put on a decent smile, and greet his new fiancee. Sliding off his silver mask, and setting down his glass he discreetly moved his way through the mob off people towards her. "Princess Margret." He gave her a quick bow, trying to hid the layer of sarcasm, and hatred that was plastered to his face.

Margaret sighed, as she glided throughout the ballroom in Falilth. She found it painfully obvious when her parents plotted, knowing they wanted to bring alliances to Ormarsh by giving their eldest daughter to a man of a foreign country. The red headed princess was disheartened, though she tried to mask it by drinking a glass of red wine. If she was going to meet her a potential suitor that evening, it would be with a bit of alcohol in her system to make the introductions bearable. She glanced up from the glass, her eyes settling on a tall man across the room. His tousled, dark hair was styled well, and his dark eyes seemed alluring, though a silver mask covered the rest of his face. She had to admit that she was intrigued, yet Margaret knew her parents had other plans.

Finishing the delightful glass of wine in her hand, Margaret made her way toward the orchestra playing in the grand room. She began to dance to the pleasant melody, exhaling a joyful sigh, as he music spoke to her in a way that nothing else could. She spun twice, though her piercing blue eyes settled on her father conversing with a nobleman. The young woman's fun was ruined immediately, causing her to straighten her gown and stare at the two men with interest. It was a business arrangement about her hand, no doubt. As much as she enjoyed her royal status, Margaret wished she were common to escape marrying and producing heirs for Ormarsh. However, her wishes would not be granted, given she was already at the grand ball, and her father was already bargaining with others for her hand. She tore her eyes away from the men, retreating to the other side of the ballroom to clear her head.

As the Queen of Falilth stepped forward to announce the pairings, Margaret listened carefully. She raised an eyebrow in surprise upon hearing her match was Prince Adrian of Malvolia. It was no secret that the two rulers were not fond of each other, wondering what her father had been cooking up. Glancing toward the King once more, she resisted the urge to give him a reproachful look, as he gave her an encouraging smile. Now was the time to be the respectable daughter, she thought, gathering her skirts and beginning to look for Prince Adrian. Margaret was unsure to what he looked like, though each step she took felt like she lost more of her independence. Her thoughts went to Natalia, her youngest sister, whom would face the same fate in a few years' time. She only wished there was a way to save the darling from what Ormarsh would expect of her.

Margaret was drawn from her contemplation when she heard her name, turning to see the same man with the dark, enticing eyes. Realization dawned on her, seeing that he was indeed the man she was met to wed. She eyed him carefully, examining his exposed face before taking off her own navy mask.
"Prince Adrian." She replied eloquently with a polite smile, curtsying in his presence. "It seems we are paired together." She stated, a hint of mischief lingering in her voice, as she restrained herself from speaking out of term about this union.
