[ PERSONALITY ]
Always watching his back and cleaning his mess up, Nio is not the type of person to care much for people other than family and his few friends. Business will always been business with comrades and allies, and if they cannot fend for themselves, Nio feels as though he’s better off teaming up with a feral cat. Yet, perhaps Nio could be labeled as a hero of sorts, regardless of his intentions and aims. He is merely out to save his own ass, and if he saves someone’s life in the meantime, he would rather not hear about it.
Despite that Nio more or less looks after himself more than he does with others, he does show a sort of protective nature over family members and the few friends he has. Nio truly cares for their safety and health, and will go to extreme measures to shield them from any type of danger, showing no concern whether or not he is the one who takes the fall for them. Though this can be perceived as a heroic thing to do, Nio merely wants to protect loved ones to save himself from the heartache he knows he’s sure to feel.
Perhaps Nio’s past heartbreaks has shaped his grumpy, not particularly friendly or chatty nature. Dealing with the death of family members might had hardened Nio emotionally and mentally, which could further quell his fears and regrets. For knowing life is short, and he is well aware he can die at any time, Nio finds ways to make his life meaningful - yet not particularly things most people would do. He intends to become the ‘hero’ only his family and friends need, to give them a sense of security that he’ll always have their back, proving just how loyal he is.

[ APPEARANCE ]
Nio stands at six feet and one inch tall.

Nio is mildly tanned due to being in the sun for extended periods of time everyday. His natural and current hair colour is a medium ash brown shade, silky straight - the length falling down to his hips, which is more often than not tied back in a high ponytail - with a side fringe cut just above his eyes, and a low hairline. Nio has an ovalish shaped face, having a narrow jawline and high cheekbones. Yes, he has frown lines (after frowning 24/7, geez). His eyes are a roundish-almond shape having a hazel colour, short eye lashes, natural round eyebrows (root colour). He has straight teeth,a medium defined nose, and medium sized ears - attached earlobes. Nio is a clean shaven man, he shaves weekly, although he does get a stubble occasionally .
Nio's body type is mesomorph.
Nio has narrow shoulders, his arms are toned and masculine as well as his chest and stomach - abs, six pack - from extended amounts of fitness/exercise from jogging, weight lifting, and push ups being part of a daily routines, and sort of a stress reliever for Nio.
Nio's everyday clothes are usually a plain, white blouse - classic collar, long sleeve, the cuffs often unbuttoned - and fitted black jeans, no belt. The only type of shoe, well boots, he has and will wear is an ankle, flat heeled, laced boot, always being plain black. He never wears hats, glasses of any kind or accessories including wrist watches, wrist bands, rings, chains.

MAGIC AFFINITY | Earth
MAGIC SKILLS | N/A
FIGHTING STYLE | Nio is very much focused in strength. Hand-to-hand combat is his way of going but he will use a blade of sorts if he happens to have one on hand at the time. Nio's strength can be used in a combination of defence and offence. He has a great disadvantage to fast attackers, but due to his high endurance and pain tolerance, he is not easy to take down.

[ PART I : BIO ]
From the first breath and first look into life, Nio knew nothing different. He knew not of his father, a soldier killed in the line of duty, and his mother, a maid who died giving birth to him.

After Ryoga Lancis, Nio’s father was killed, his mother; Emma Lancis was left with barely enough money to support herself. Fortunately, Emma’s sister lived in the same town with her husband (Maria and Theodore). Without hesitation, they had welcomed Emma into their home to live with them, and she certainly was grateful for a roof over her head and food. Sadly, she passed in giving birth to Nio. But, Theodore and Maria thought nothing else but take care of Nio. Therefore, Nio grew up knowing no different, viewing Maria and Theodore as his mother and father, for he had no memories of his his parents. Because of having no memories of them, Nio never felt as though he was “missing something”. It was the only life he knew, living under the care of his aunt and uncle.

At the age of five, Nio was certainly a very easy going child. However, perhaps Maria and Theodore wanted another child, for it was when Maria gave birth to her first son, Crim. With the new addition to the family, Nio dealt with it rather well and quickly developed a close bond with his new ‘baby brother’. There was hardly ever a time where you would find the the two of them in fights, rather it was mere petty disagreements or arguments. Arising to be portrayed as the “strong and protective big brother” to Crim, Nio often looked out for Crim. Especially as Crim grew older, and if he was ever bullied by the others kids.
Because Nio was perceived as an obedient child who followed every rule and did everything Maria asked of him, Nio also might have been perceived as bossy towards Crim for telling him what to do and what not to do, as what he had been told from Maria.

When Nio was eight, and Crim was three; Maria gave birth to her second son; Griffin. It didn’t take long for Nio to develop a strong bond with Griffin to, also becoming to be portrayed as the protective big bro for Griffin. And, as they grew older, Griffin came to rely on Nio heavily.

As soon as Nio had entered his teenage years, did Maria go back to working as the local herbalist, for she deemed Nio old enough and reponsible enough to take care of Griffin and Crim with neither she nor Theodore were home due to having to go to work. (Theodore was a blacksmith). And that’s exactly what Nio did, making sure to keep the two brothers out of trouble and away from harm. However, because of this, Nio’s relationship with them crumbled. Especially Crim, who began to regularly start fights with Nio, and Nio only aggravated it all the more by retaliating.

Nio’s relationship with Crim continued to decline, even becoming physical as Crim became more aggressive as he grew into his teenage years. Certainly, it became a worry for Nio’s aunt and uncle, but despite how much discipline they gave Crim, it only made him all the more rebellious. So much so, it came to the point where Crim stormed out and never returned home, claiming to despise them all. Crim is still seen within the town, but he refuses to come back home.

Nio could see the heartbreak it had caused Theodore and Maria, but he couldn’t and didn’t say anything about it. For, there really was nothing left to say. Crim had chosen to leave. Perhaps that was reason enough for Nio to look after Griffin all the more, and try to prevent something similar from happening. And surely, Griffin became attached and clingy to Nio, as Griffin was a scrawny kid who got targeted by the others kids a lot.

However, Nio began to be tough with Griffin and pushed him away. For, when Nio was eighteen, he began to help Maria out with the deliveries of herbs and other things. Knowing he might be away from home often, he didn’t want to leave Griffin incapable of defending himself. He wished for Griffin to become independent. At least, that had been his intention. But, after being gone for a week or two to make deliveries to the neighbouring town, Nio returned home to a very challenging Griffin. Though, more so of a friendly rivalry, for Griffin came to often challenge Nio to duels/ combat training after Griffin had gained an intense interest in combat. And, Nio had no quarrels over such, and simply went along with it.

It was the beginning of Nio’s natural talent in combat, finding that he harboured a natural strength. Theodore might have found this a chance to spend time with the two boys and teach them what he knew, before referring them to another to teach them. According to their teacher; Nio excelled in hand-to-hand combat and showed potential in sword handling.
This combat training might have become more of a hobby and pastime for Nio than anything else, finding that he rather enjoyed it, as it also meant he could spend more time alongside Griffin and watch his little brother grow. But, perhaps this training was something that would be useful in the future

For, during the time of delivery to the neighbouring town, when Maria had accompanied Nio on the trip, they were attacked by petty thieves. But, alas, Nio’s combat training paid off as he fended the thieves away and stopped them from actually stealing anything. However, seeing Maria almost scared half to death, Nio insisted that she let him go on deliveries alone and that she stayed home. Maria agreed without an quarrels.

I write the rules, and Emiyn and Erika will play by the rules

ERIKA
Female | 14 | Asexual | Metal | [Empty]

Rewind.
Reload.
Restart.
[PERSONALITY]
Individualist, Challenger and Psychopath.

Ask anyone's first impression of Erika LeBlanc, and they would tell you that she seems to be a cheerful and ambitious girl. Though she speaks mature enough for someone her age, ask her about her fantasies and ideas and one would find that she can really stretch her imagination. She's also independent and resilient. Erika loves to talk to people and hanging out with her friends, but she doesn't get restless. Not having the extensive knowledge like her brother, she's more hardworking and relies on her instincts to get her out of unfavourable situations.

Erika prides herself in being an "individualist", in which she's aiming to achieve something to wow others. Though she acts modest about it, one can easily see that she gets pleased with her accomplishments. She always like compliments as well.

More than getting praises, perhaps Erika likes winning more. Or simply, that moment of joy when she feels superior. This feeling is something that she can relate to most out of everything else, perhaps only second to fear of dying. Though Erika isn't cold-blooded, she isn't one to be burdened by emotional attachments and has her ways of being manipulative. The extent of her little attachment to morals and emotions are symptoms of her psychopathic nature. And like all psychopaths, she is good at following along with what others do around her, blending in like a rather normal person.

Even if Erika was sadistic, most of the time it's so subtle that one cannot even notice it. Another reason that hinders from acting on her lonely impulses is due to the things drilled into her mind, that there's some things you cannot do, even if you want to. (Depending on her upbringing, she will have different levels of control of acting less on her desires in this aspect)

[APPEARANCE]
Erika has a normal build, and has a height of 154cm. She's slightly taller than her half-brother, and rather proud of it. One can see that she isn't malnourished, and is rather quick on her feet. Erika has light brown hair and grey eyes. The hair colour is really light brown that under the sun it could be almost mistaken for orange.

Erika tends to wear long sleeves, even if it's the peak of summer. Her left hand has a few burn marks currently from cooking blunders. On both forearms though, there are rather clean scars, clearly made with some form of weapon.

[FIGHTING STYLE]
Erika has been taught some basic defence at her school, along with some parkour. Though she can't fight like a soldier or grown adult, she tries to make up for it by dealing multiple fast attacks in combos, or "machine gun strategy". With her good reflexes, she generally tries to evade attacks rather than rely on blocking. The general weapon she uses is a short sword with a straight blade. The length is generally no longer than 50cm as she can't handle very heavy swords.

For reference, Erika will probably be able to evade 5/10 attacks from any other MC above the age of 20. If she is using her head and properly timing her evasions, it may be 7/10.

[PART I MAGIC SKILLS]
Erika has not studied magic, though she understands some basic principles from Emiyn.

[BIO]
It was now late evening. Once again, in the academy in a town in Erminia, the students were being called by the teachers to get to sleep. The last day of the holidays, and tomorrow would mean that the kids would wake up more for academic studies. Erika waved and said goodnight to her bunkmate before climbing up to her own. For a few seconds the girl stared out the window for a while.

A small but peaceful smile had crept to her face. Today had been a good day. She had received a letter from her brother, Emi. Her brother had been describing a new place he had gone. Of course, while her hadn't gone by himself, it wasn't with family. Emi complained that he had only about an hour of free time when he was visiting the market place of the town before having to go back to class. It seemed that even her studious and smart brother didn't like lessons.

She promised herself that tomorrow afternoon she'll write a reply. Idly, she fingered the small pendant around her neck. That was how Emi had found her. Seeing that when she unwrapped her scarf, the boy had gotten rather attentive towards the gift from her mother's. Eri had no idea that she secretly had step siblings until just about a year ago. All she knew was the little brother with the same eyes as her, but nothing much about the two elder half-brothers, or even her supposed biological father.

Within her blankets, the girl shifted to her side when thinking about her "father". The one that was currently living with her mother. Today they had been fighting, and he had made her cry again. The second time. Erika had been living at the academy for several months now, with few weekends back at home, how many other times would she have missed?

She held the necklace chain a little tighter, reminding herself to think positively. She had stopped them both just in time. It was a little painful when Erika had used the kitchen knife to slit along her own arm, and it was rather loud when her mother was suddenly yelling. But… they stopped fighting. Her mother stopped crying and was being worried about her. Even better, her mother even hugged her and promised they'd go shopping together afterwards. Just the two of them.

The problem was solved. The actual third wheel in the home had looked sorry. Maybe, Erika thought to herself, he'll be sorry enough to agree to go fishing with her. He was good at that, and while they're at the lake with deep waters she can talk to him… He'll definitely listen. It's at a quiet place and there'll just be the two of them.

Her thoughts were broken by someone murmuring something about breakfast. Mia was sleep talking again. Eri held back a giggle before finally shutting her eyes, ready to drift off to sleep. Even though there were a few problems, it was still a good day.

[PERSONALITY]
Investigator, Commander and Peacemaker.

Emiyn acts and considers himself like any other adult. He gives the impression of having grown up around people older than he was. On the other hand, his way of talking might be a bit stiff when talking with kids a bit younger to his own age, but can be seen charismatic to most. Having learnt from the best, he's known how to tailor his words and actions to try and gain favours, or make himself less suspicious. He is able to spend long hours by himself, simply reading or other hobbies, but he does like a good conversation with a good friend. To Emiyn, a good friend that he can trust is more valuable than a family member.

If you were to ask what he considers his strongest point is, Emiyn would say that he has a good evaluation of himself. He knows of his own place, has a general grasp of his weaknesses and strengths. And with his general observation and attention to detail, there are many times when he can guess what others think of him by their subtle actions that speak louder than gossiping words.

He believes strongly that knowledge is perhaps one of the most effective weapons, the other being persuasive skills. It could be that he hates violence, or war. Or it could be that his own image of a hero is not showing one's glory in public. The coolest type of people, are those that seem weak and unnoticeable, but end up getting the last laugh. Perhaps this is why he has keeping out of the attention of everyone else intentionally. All for the decisive moment when he feels it is right to intervene and catch them off-guard.

Compared to his siblings (in world 1), Emiyn is the one who hates fighting the most, possibly hints to the slivers of boyish innocence within him. While he doesn’t wear his grief and discomfort on his face, he knows very well that he is a bit sensitive towards people he cares about being hurt.

[APPEARANCE]
Emiyn is 152cm in height, which is a bit short for his age, but he has hopes that he will continue to grow. Just from the way he dresses and his walking strides, one can see that he has a lead a healthy life. Out on the streets, Emiyn tends to look a bit like a young scholar or student from one of the boarding schools.

Emiyn's hair fringe might be a bit long, something that he's heard women say might cover his eyes. He finds it suits him just fine though since he doesn't like the sun getting into his eyes.

[FIGHTING STYLE]
Emiyn was expected to train. Living in a life of comfort and safety in the heart of the city has allowed him to be less enthusiastic about it, compared to any of his other lessons. He is more familiar with using a long sword. He can't use powerful attacks, and rather chooses to adjust his timing to deal a precise attack to the weak points of the opponent.

Having practiced magic since he was young, he has a rather good magic stamina for his age, in comparison to his physical abilities. Emiyn does make up for it by having a strong mentality.

[PART I MAGIC SKILLS]
1. Emiyn can activate a ritual magic spell, which requires one magic gem per use. From that, he can use the shadows about 1.5 metre radius around him to materialize and form into an object. He can only have it forming into a black eagle or sword at this current time. They have the properties similar to their realistic counterparts, but with a more "fluid" and "shadowy" appearance. Each time the spell activates, it only allows the form to be maintained for about 4 minutes only by his current magic stamina. After the spell finishes, the gem cannot be used again and needs to be replaced. Emiyn does not need to embed the gem into any weapon or staff, but simply just use the word "dirheas" to activate it.

[BIO]
His heart felt weary, but his mind was as clear as day.

Emiyn Devereaux was curled up on the chair by the window. He wrapped the blanket around his body a little more, in the room where the candle had just gone out. Pressing his cheek against the glass, he didn't flinch from the chilling surface since he wasn't sleepy to begin with.

The death of the priestess in the Tower of the Sun was heavy on his mind. His hand curled into a fist. The same one that had closed her eyes.

He had counted the number of times he had seen her. No more than 20 since he had first seen the middle-aged woman when he was nine. Their conversations hadn't been long each time, since both of them were busy, but when she asked him questions it was similar to how his bodyguard Ayumu would act. But the priestess was a woman though. And he had read enough stories to know that was almost a bit like how mothers were described to be like.

Even Eri has said the same about hers, even though the young prince could tell that the woman had some mental handicap. Just one conversation told him more than enough about her obsession over her past life as an actress.

Thinking about Eri had him sit up a little. The attack from the monsters to the Tower was so sudden, would this have happened to other cities away from the capital? A new fear had sprung to him. It was the middle of the night though, and there wouldn't be any good to just simply visit one of the officials at this time.

He pressed his face further against the glass as a sigh came. It was frustrating at times, how he felt trapped with his limited options. In a few more years, he would have been able to build up his own network like his two other brothers.

Calm down, Emiyn… Think Emiyn… Think calmly…

He was already fourteen. Rushing impulsively was not something an adult would do, and would not end in his favour. There was a small shifting sound, as he got up. What he could do, is to write to Erika first. He picked up his pen, and his hand squeezed it rather hard before he even got to the first word.

He could ask his father, to check on the half-sister that he wasn't supposed to know about. That would be the safest and quickest for anybody, but Emiyn didn’t get up from his seat. He wasn't supposed to know about Erika, and there was almost no way to avoid anyone eavesdropping on his private conversations. The long-term consequence was… He wondered if someone would have thought of him had they read his mind in the last few minutes, and honestly questioned if this was going to be one of the most cruel decisions he'd have to make.

He ran his free arm through his hand while lowering his head and shut his eyes. A minute would have passed before he lifted again, to turn light a candle. Time does not wait for anyone, after all.

⟫ Appearance ⟪i
.

With clothing always put neatly into order and a countenance marred by a constant frown, Chizuru is frequently said to look more the part of a stern knight than a wandering mercenary. His unruly silvery locks dusted with a pewter grey are the sole traits on his profile that offsets from this image, yet one look at his vibrant aqua-colored eyes reflective of a cold defiance is enough to dispel any impressions that he’s a mere slave to pleasure and coin. He’s not quite a noble, but certainly at least one who could be passed as one of a less unfortunate upbringing.

As far as first impressions go, Chizuru has on most occasions been mistaken to be much younger than he actually is. Perhaps as a result of hailing from the Far East, his pale skin retains a deceptively youthful sheen and a stubbornly lean frame casts the illusion that he’s much less of the experienced mercenary that he is, though he isn’t quite so vertically challenged (5’9” / 175cm) as most others from hometown. Such assumptions typically work out in his favor, but it still makes for a very much disgruntled mercenary, evident in his choice to dress in a rather Western style in subtle hopes that he’d appear closer to his true age, even if only by an iota.

⟫ Personality ⟪i
.

“It’s better to be useless than to get in the way...but that mindset of wanting to improve isn’t bad.”

Though his delicate features may say otherwise, Chizuru’s remarks are as cutting as his gaze, and he possesses a bark that’s as bad as his bite to match. As stiffly courteous as he may seem while handling business, said decorum is promptly kicked out the door the moment he deems that being frank overturns his business face. He isn’t the type to hold much back in the first place, so those offended by his crude remarks are abound. As a certain friend mentioned many times in the past, “your mouth ruins your face,” is a phrase that quite aptly describes the man.

While his anger-inducing remarks and sarcasm are extended towards even those he seems to be fond of, Chizuru’s words do bear at least a modicum of truth, as caustic as they may be. To the more empathetic souls, his words range from lonely to encouraging in their own way. That is to say, honesty in terms of emotion is a foreign concept. Concern is hidden within thorns whilst kindness is a rare subtlety behind a shield of apathy. However, his rather meddlesome behavior is the antithesis to his claims of being unwilling to involve himself in troublesome things, giving way to the speculation that perhaps it’s just his way of contributing while keeping others at a distance.

Contrary to his rather forward behavior, he’s the type who rarely sticks around for long. In fact, Chizuru has a habit of seeking time alone, especially when knee-deep in his own problems, due to the strong dislike of becoming the subject of someone else's concern despite his own meddling. Though he'll likely never admit this to anyone, it's also the result of the fear that relying on someone will result in him to growing an attachment to that person, an event that he believes will cause that person to disappear just like the others. To him, there’s a big difference between a temporary comrade and a “friend.” One allows you to move on while the other leaves you mourning.

⟫ Backstory - World I ⟪i
.

Overture
(n.) An introductory movement to an opera or other large musical work which presents themes to be heard later on in the composition.

Since ancient times, there have been some who believe that a crane, a symbol of luck, longevity, and fidelity, is a majestic creature that can live for a thousand years. No one knows when or where it originated, but a legend arose from this belief. Should a person fold a thousand cranes within the span of one year, that person would be granted a single wish by the gods. As a little known story, this legend nearly faded into the recesses of history many times. However, there was always at least one family that heeded the words of this myth in hopes that perhaps their greatest desire really would come true.

Nozomi and Kokone were two such people. For reasons that they could never figure out, the couple had been suffering from the inability to birth healthy children. It wasn't until that the pair was ready to give up that they chanced upon the old legend of the thousand paper cranes. While Nozomi was hesitant about placing his hopes on such a silly myth, he didn't have the heart to tell his wife to disregard the legend. Seeing the newfound hope that had been sparked from within her, Nozomi assisted Kokone with folding the paper cranes whenever he had free time.

A year seemed to pass almost too soon, yet the couple had managed to successfully fold the thousand cranes just like the legend required. At least, that was what they had believed. Upon recounting the cranes, Kokone found that they had only folded 999 cranes, much to her distress. Even Nozomi, who had simply folded the cranes to indulge his wife, felt a pang of disappointment that they had failed to fold that last and final crane. With this, the couple couldn't help but feel that their wish for a child would never be fulfilled. It was almost as if that the hope that they had for a healthy child completely vanished along with the hope that they had placed in the legend. Despite this, the couple found that wishes could be granted in the most unexpected of ways.

While searching for medicinal herbs in the nearby forest for his sick friend, Nozomi chanced upon an infant that had been left in a patch of soft grass. Horrified at the prospect that someone had abandoned a mere child in the woods, Nozomi rushed over to the infant almost immediately. Upon picking up the child, the man noticed that within the child's grip was a piece of paper. Curious, Nozomi pried open the infant's small hand and removed the paper from its grasp. Much to his astonishment, the paper was folded into the shape of a crane with the word "safety" written on its right wing. While slightly relieved that it appeared that whoever had left the child had most likely done so due to having no other choice, Nozomi also took this occurrence as a sign. Perhaps this child was an unexpected fulfillment of their wish. Perhaps the crane that had been grasped within the child’s small and delicate hand was the thousandth crane that they had forgotten to make.

Taking the child along with the herbs that he needed home, Nozomi presented the child to Kokone. While at first bewildered by her husband bringing a random child into the home, Kokone grew ecstatic as Nozomi described how he had found the child in the woods. Although she was saddened by the fact that she would most likely never be able to birth a healthy child, simply being able to have a child that she could call her own was enough to make her happy. As a reminder of all that had occurred, Nozomi and Kokone named the child "Chizuru," the thousandth crane that had delivered and fulfilled their greatest wish.

Dissonance
(n.) Two or more notes sounded together that are harsh, discordant, and have a lack of harmony. It is also a chord that sounds incomplete until it resolves itself on a harmonious chord.

Without a doubt, should one ask about the time he was happiest, Chizuru would answer the time that he was still oblivious to the harsh realities of the world brought about by the cruel workings of the ignorant “self”. His lamentation was not that he was a child twice abandoned. No, unlike some other adopted children, Chizuru had always known that he was not of the same blood as the couple he called his parents. However, the fading memories of his mother as well as the regrets left by his father continue to sit heavy in his heart.

The people whom Chizuru was blessed with in his life were nothing short of the best he could ask for. His mother was too kind, possessing a kind of kindness that he felt he did not deserve, especially from a sickly mother who should be caring more about her own self. The father in his earliest memories was always jubilant, sitting the young Chizuru upon his lap to keep him company while working and being his first and only teacher in everything. Finally, his friend of many years, Ren, was his closest comrade in their aspirations to become great knights in the future. At least, that was until the link holding that rose-colored happiness began to corrode.

Smiles began to fade, starting with his father’s once his mother became ill. Soon, his father became completely frigid when his mother passed away from the disease after suffering for a long four years. Chizuru's father never hit him, but the looks of contempt that his father gave him was enough to make him believe that perhaps his father disliked him or even blamed him for his mother's death. To top it off, he was always restricted in the things that he was allowed to do and the places that he was allowed to go, making his house feel almost like a cage devoid of the warmth that he had been filled with once before.

It was during this time that Chizuru visited his childhood friend with increasing frequency. Often seeking Ren's house as refuge when he couldn't take the "emptiness" of his home any longer, Chizuru would often be chided by Ren for doing so. Just like Chizuru's late mother, Ren believed that perhaps his father just didn't know that children weren’t as fragile as he thought and was simply being overprotective. However, Chizuru would always refute this, leaving Ren with no choice but to give up and move on to a different topic.

As an individual blessed with musical talent, Ren would often compose songs and later perform them for others such as Chizuru whenever he came over. Perhaps this was the very reason as to why he felt a sort of solace when with Ren. He knew that it wasn't a good thing to run away from his issues, but he couldn't find it within himself to face a father who had picked up a child only to "abandon" it.

Elegy
(n.) A mournful or plaintive composition, often played as a lament for the dead.

Chizuru’s life continued on without much further confrontation, much to his surprise. Rather than mull over his relationship with his father, Chizuru instead chose to focus on refining his swordsmanship and learning to mix combative magic to further increase his prowess. He surpassed Ren as his sparring partner and his growth astounded even Ren’s father who had taken up the duty of personally overseeing both of their training. Soon, he came to stand before a decision. Ren had already decided to apply as a cadet in the royal army, just like she had said she would when she was but a child. However, she chose to wait for Chizuru to make his decision on whether or not to follow before making her departure. And in three months’ time from her declaration, both Chizuru and Ren left with aspirations towards knighthood.

Their time in the capital was short-lived, however, with Ren falling ill a mere year after her initiation into cadet-hood. She attempted to hide her disease by stating her leave to be a result of finding her passion for music to be distracting her from her duties and therefore unfit to be a knight, but such lies were only accepted by her best friend out of the sheer will to keep her content. In the end, he returned to his hometown a month after Ren’s return.

Chizuru had always known that Ren was sickly. In fact, he had noticed that she was always growing weaker and weaker by the day. He had simply chosen to ignore it in order to keep Ren from worrying. However, he couldn't help but grow conflicted about how his childhood friend continued to work hard on composing and performing songs. It obviously did nothing but cause her health to deteriorate further, but he felt that he was in no position to keep her from pursuing her passion. After all, he was already guilty of causing his mother to care more about him rather than her own self, when he was just an adopted child. If Ren's death was inevitable, then the least he could do was allow for her to pass away happy. Ren was always smiling because of her music and the happiness of the people around her. The worst thing that someone like him could possibly do was take that smile away. Not only that, but Ren's own parents seemed to agree that such was the best for Ren as well.

Just as Chizuru had feared, Ren's coughing fits grew worse and her illness progressed until she finally passed away from the disease. In a way, it was almost a relief that she had met her end as she had been suffering for so long. However, before Ren had passed the last of her days, she had completed a final composition. Ren's own parents delivered the musical score to Chizuru stating that Ren had dedicated it to him, puzzling him. He was even more confused by the word that Ren had decided to use to entitle it, "Regret."

Cadence
(n.) A sequence of chords that brings about an end to a phrase, dividing the music into periods or bringing about a full conclusion.

After Ren's passing, Chizuru left the town that he had grown up in for good, leaving behind the people he had come to know as well as the painful reminders of the people who had come and gone. He didn't even notify his father of his leave, choosing to avoid seeing his face one last time. Hatred was too extreme of an emotion to describe how he felt towards his father, but he certainly couldn't say that he loved his father like a dutiful son should. After all, he was sure that his father didn't even care for him, and his leave was likely to be a relief to his father.

Years passed with Chizuru aimlessly traveling around the continent, earning his keep through a variety of mercenary jobs. While his income was rather unstable due to the nature of his lifestyle, Chizuru couldn't necessarily say that it was completely bad. Having never really ventured outside of his hometown before, the new sights that he saw and people that he met entertained him enough to give him somewhat of a sense of contentment. However, he always felt urges to return to his hometown, even if it was just once. As this peculiar desire served to only puzzle him, Chizuru ignored these urges until he decided to allow for those troublesome feelings to finally lay at rest.

The moment he stepped foot into his hometown, Chizuru was shocked with the news that his father had recently met a brutal end while dealing with a monster that had settled itself in the forest nearby the town. As if to confirm this information, Chizuru rushed to the place that he had once called his home. The house had not changed much over the years, but as a confirmation of what the townspeople had said, the house felt much more barren than before.

To his surprise, Chizuru discovered a letter addressed to him upon further investigation of the house. The contents of the letter both shocked him to the core as well as filled him with a myriad of other emotions. The letter had been written by his father four years ago, the same year that he had left the town without a word. It was a letter of apology, but most of all, it was a confession. Just like what his mother and Ren had told him many times, Chizuru's father was simply someone who was awkward with his actions and words. Not only that, the reason as to why he was so strict and limiting was due to his paranoia that he would end up like the person who should have been his older sister.

Much before Chizuru's parents had discovered and adopted him, the two had had a daughter. However, although she had survived the first few years of her life, she had always been a sickly child. Despite this, she had been the dearest child that one could possibly have and thus was the recipient of much love. Her death was something that Chizuru's father blamed himself for due to having failed to have noticed that allowing for her to be too free with her actions and pursuit of her passions had been physically taxing. While he realized that Chizuru was misunderstanding his over strictness with contempt, he couldn't seem to find the right method to fully convince Chizuru that he truly did care, deciding that the only way to make amends was to allow his son to go free to do as he wished.

In the end, Chizuru had simply chosen to remain ignorant of his father's true thoughts in favor of his own pride. If he really thought about it, there were indeed times that his father had expressed his love and care for him in a way that even a child should have been able to understand.

Chizuru finally understood the meaning of Ren having titled her final composition "Regret." It wasn't that she regretted having been unable to live her life to the fullest. The piece had been titled "Regret" to reflect her regret for having been unable to show Chizuru that his father simply had an awkward way of showing that he cared. Her "Regret" was that she had failed to repair the broken bond between Chizuru and his father in the end.

However, it was now too late. He had already lost those he cared for the most. Even the last person whom he should have treasured more had slipped right through his fingertips despite just having come to the realization that he really was a loved child in the end. All the way to the end, he had been a spoiled child who was too blind to notice the many undeserved blessings that had been given to him.

Fighting Style
Built rather thinly and armed with nothing but a less-than-threatening courtsword, skeptics questioning his viability in the mercenary business are aplenty. However, those foolish enough to judge a book by its cover and let their guard down are likely to end up kissing the floor.

Chizuru’s raw physical strength is by no means meager. However, his lean figure still proves to be a major setback when facing opponents of a much more intimidating size. To make up for his inability to gain substantial muscle, Chizuru deploys the use of cleverly timed magic and refined swordsmanship. His trusty blade is tapered to a sharp edge suited for both cutting and thrusting and the added effort of his footwork makes for a deadly combo in tandem with his magical enchantments.

However, all mortals have their limits. Though his use of magic wears down on his opponent’s stamina, the flipside to this leaves him much more vulnerable at the start of a battle compared to the end. In addition, his versatility fails to extend his range by much, forcing him to resort to taking the offensive approach when dealing with ranged units.

Frozen Symphony
Cloaking himself and his sword in a chilling mist, Chizuru uses his magic to enchant his sword with a particular freezing effect that inflicts numbness over time. This ability is extremely useful in that it can potentially slow down enemy movements by a considerable amount. Due to the sheer cold nature of this ability, the recovery from this magic-inflicted numbness is much slower than recovery from numbness induced by normal cold such as freezing weather conditions. However, its downsides are that it requires Chizuru to actually land cuts on his opponent as the icy mist surrounding him isn't cold enough to cause a significant amount of numbing on its own. This icy mist does have small ice particles within it that sticks to an opponent when within range, however.

Flowing Water: 1st Mvt.
By gathering moisture from his surroundings and supercooling the water, Chizuru creates a small wave/wedge of water that can be launched a short distance and freezes upon contact. However, this distance is extremely short and should the wave of water travel too far, it will lose a majority of its effect due to the water spreading and becoming much less concentrated. This ability can also be used to create small formations of ice on the floor as to obstruct movement.

Flowing Water: 2nd Mvt.
By altering the properties of water via magic, Chizuru forms his water into an acid like substance. The appearance and temperature of the water does not change whatsoever, but with the influence of this ability, the water becomes corrosive. This ability is the most energy consuming by far and is thus used more sparingly.
